“White Lies,” a murder mystery series starring Natalie Dormer, has been acquired by Sundance Now for North America.
A collaboration between production company Quizzical Pictures and Pan-African broadcaster M-Net in partnership with Fremantle, “White Lies” is set in the wealthy Bishopscourt neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa. Dormer (“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”) stars as an investigative journalist called Edie Hansen alongside Brendon Daniels (“Four Corners”), who plays detective Forty Bell.
“Following her estranged brother’s murder in his luxury home, Edie’s world plunges deeper into chaos when her brother’s teenage children become prime suspects for the crime,” reads the logline. “As Edie investigates, she finds herself at loggerheads with veteran detective Forty Bell, and grapples with the crumbling local police force, a corrupt political system and the secretive world of extreme Cape wealth.”

Out of all the members of the Scooby Gang in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (as the show's core team of heroes are adorably nicknamed), it's Xander Harris who's easily undergone the biggest reassessment since the series ended in 2003. It's no surprise either, considering Xander was the closest thing the show had to an avatar for creator Joss Whedon. At least Xander had the excuse of being a teenager for much of the series; it didn't justify his selfish behavior or the way he constantly cracked wise rather than talk through his insecurities and feelings, but there was always the hope he would grow and mature as he got older. Whedon, on the other hand, was one of those guys who got bullied when he was younger, only to become a bully himself as he gained more power and influence.
Moreover, where Whedon's misconduct was swept under the rug for years...

A lot of things made "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" special, from its inversion of the helpless blonde trope to its genre-defying jumps between raucous comedy, heartfelt drama, and supernatural horror. But perhaps the most lasting impact that the series had on culture was the way that it manipulated language. Problematic series creator Joss Whedon created his own particular parlance with "Buffy," and obviously the slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, speaks it like a pro. However, it might surprise fans to learn that when Gellar first auditioned for the series' lead, she was thoroughly confused by the patois that came to be known as Buffyism.
"Well, Buffyism is basically just an odd way of speaking," Whedon said in a 1998 interview. "People often quote the sort of things that people say but we don't have a lot of phrases we like to use. Basically, it's not about creating a word that all...

London, May 24 (Ians) England on Wednesday picked uncapped seamer Josh Tongue in their Test squad, which is set to face Ireland in a one-off Test match starting at Lords from June 1, with the side facing injury concerns around pacers James Anderson and Ollie Robinson.
The 25-year old Tongue has impressed for several seasons in domestic competition for Worcestershire and was part of the England Lions tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year and featured prominently in the red ball part of that series, especially taking 5/34 and 3/77 against Sri Lanka A.
“We have been monitoring Josh (Tongue) for quite some time and he deserves this call-up to the Test squad. It will be a great experience for him to understand and get used to the environment under Ben (Stokes) and Brendon (McCullum).
It is important to have players ready to respond and with a big summer of Test cricket coming up,...

The Rookie: Feds had some expectations heaped on it from the moment the spinoff was announced.
The Rookie is the perfect balance of comedy, action, and romance, and as such, those were to be expected of the spinoff.
So, how did it fare?
It's worth noting that throughout the first half of The Rookie Feds Season 1, the show was establishing itself by developing characters and finding its place in The Rookie universe.
Sadly, it took so many episodes to get that done, but by the end of the season, it became much more solid.
The format was not new, with it being a spin-off.
Episodes open with a crime beginning to be committed, in progress, or after the fact. Some openers were a hit or a miss but mostly entertaining.
The season premiere introduced the characters and set up the story.
The show had a two-episode back-door pilot in the original,...

That's one way to do a season (series?) finale.
Simone hit 49 on The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 22, but FBI business doesn't care about such milestones as the team trying to solve the mystery of a buried FBI agent.
Everyone tried to get out of attending Simone's party while Brendon went all out on the gift-giving, causing Antoinette to be concerned.
For a season finale, it disappointed in more ways than one.
The episode's promo promised an insane hour filled with thrilling scenes after an FBI agent would come out of his grave, and elsewhere Simone and Carter would find themselves next to a nuclear bomb.
That's the problem with false advertising.
I understand baiting people to tune in, but it's not fun with the crossovers and these baits that may just as well be poisoned.
Most of the storylines felt truncated. There would be a build-up and then a sudden...

The team dealt with a cult leader on The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 20, while Simone reunited with Dina because of their parents' relationship.
After discovering that he won't be able to handle Foster by himself, Garza calls upon his secret weapon. Simone was able to figure out the man by just listening.
Everything felt heavy with the theme of mass murder, and the lack of action did not make it easier.
This was one of those times when one does not envy The FBI's job. They come across some of the most deranged people to ever walk on the face of the earth, and none is more deranged than cult leaders.
On a personal level, cult leaders scare me.
That's not to say that I'm afraid of them; it's just scary the amount of control they have over their followers. How they say anything, and their followers hang on to...

New Delhi, April 17 (Ians) On completing a year as the England men’s team managing director, Rob Key revealed the biggest positive since taking over has been the Test team playing with a lot of clarity, which in turn has made selection easier.
Since Key appointed Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum as captain and coach of the Test side, England have embraced a positive and aggressive brand of Test cricket, leading to 10 wins in 12 games against New Zealand, India, South Africa and Pakistan.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen. It wasn’t really about winning or losing but getting players to maximise their potential. We’ve now got a clear way of playing, which makes selection easier, too.”
“It’s not about scoring at six an over all the time, but players need to have the ability to both soak up pressure and put bowlers under pressure as well.

London, April 14 (Ians) England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum has landed in trouble over his involvement with an online betting and gambling organisation with the England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) talking to him over his role, British media has reported.
McCullum, the former New Zealand captain, joined 22Bet as an ambassador in January and has appeared in advertisements online. This has raised the ire of authorities like the Problem Gambling Foundation.
“We are exploring the matter and are in discussions with Brendon around his relationship with 22Bet,” the Ecb told the BBC on Thursday. “We have rules in place around gambling and will always seek to ensure these are followed.”
The BBC reported that the Ecb had clarified that McCullum was not currently under investigation.
The Ecb’s anti-discrimination code says “directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging, facilitating or authorising any other party to enter into a bet about the result,...

During the fifth episode of “Survivor 44,” Danny Massa, Brandon Cottom and Carolyn Wiger were chosen to go on this week’s journey. Only this time, the journey was strictly a meal at the Survivor Sanctuary and there were no risks, rewards or advantages to speak of. When Danny returns to the Soka camp, he confesses that he’s “incredibly nervous” to tell his tribe mates about his journey. “Nobody goes on journeys with nothing,” he says to the camera. Watch CBS’s latest “Survivor 44” deleted scene above.
In order to prove that he didn’t have any advantages, Danny empties his pockets and forces the others to go through his belongings. “Please go through my bag,” he tells them, “so they know I didn’t get anything on this journey.” The 32-year-old firefighter from New York later explains, “I didn’t leave it up to chance with the tribe. A break is necessary for every job or relationship.
Simone and Brendon were tasked with taking care of some light office duties they had forgotten they were supposed to do on The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 19.
This was an opportunity for them to take a break from the chaotic schedules that had followed them since they joined the FBI.
It was also a welcome break for Carter to have an excursion without Simone pulling something wild on going completely off-tangent.
Both of those opportunities were squandered when everyone found themselves attempting to solve a crime.
Rarely do we see the team working on different cases. It is usually one case with each team chasing down different leads. At most, it is two cases that are related in some way.
This time we saw Simone stumble into a dangerous murder-for-hire plot; Brendon and Laura encountered an overzealous podcaster convinced there was a hidden fortune,...

That was quite fun and quite entertaining.
On The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 18, a surprise during a simple breakfast meeting between two new friends put Simone and the team in the middle of a family quarrel that could very much have had international implications.
Simone, Laura, and Brendon dealt with the issues that could arise from the job and affect their personal lives.
For Simone, it was the fact the job was demanding, both physically and mentally.
Reality had to be suspended for entertainment's sake for most of Rookie: Feds Season 1 by ignoring that Simone was advanced in age. Being so close to fifty years old is no minor feat and does affect someone.
A fifty-year-old does not have the same energy and sharpness as a twenty-year-old.
It might sound ageist, but that is a fact. The level to which this can affect their ability to do their job should be the only consideration,...

Of all the misfits in James Gunn's "Peacemaker" series, Steve Agee's John Economos, aka Dye Beard, is the most relatable. The role of the tired, sad, unappreciated It professional speaks to the universal feelings of loneliness, insecurity, and general disdain. John got one of the best lines from "The Suicide Squad" trailer ("We've got a freakin' kaiju!") and my personal favorite monologue in Gunn's follow-up spin-off show, "Peacemaker." Appearing alongside fantastic actors and wacky characters, Agee manages to make his mark.
He's also damn funny.
The actor also played Steven Ned Myron III on "The Sarah Silverman Program," and works as a comedian and musician. Agee reprised his role as Amanda Waller's tech expert in a mid-credits scene of a certain recent superhero movie, and will be returning in the upcoming second season of "Peacemaker," which is not yet in production (but is definitely coming). /Film...
