A Patricia Highsmith adaptation with a talented cast that has yet to air on Showtime just moved to Netflix, according to Deadline. This is great news for viewers who will get to see the thriller series "Ripley," which features "Fleabag" and "His Dark Materials" actor Andrew Scott, "Lovesick" and "Emma." star Johnny Flynn, and "The First Lady" alum Dakota Fanning.
The project comes from "The Night Of" co-creator Steven Zaillian and is an adaptation of Highsmith's novel, "The Talented Mr. Ripley." This marks the latest example of Showtime offloading a series they had previously ordered after it had completed production. Most recently, the network let go of its series adaptation of the Lisa Taddeo novel “Three Women,” which is in the process of moving to Starz.
The series is based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels, which includes “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” Per the official logline, “Tom Ripley (Scott), a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy businessman to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home.

Three years ago, an adaptation of Lisa Taddeo’s novel Three Women ignited a bidding war before landing at Showtime with what sources say at the time was one of the biggest deals the premium cable network had ever made. Today, the drama starring Shailene Woodley that was eyed for a 2022 debut jumped to rival network Starz as Showtime — now part of Chris McCarthy’s sprawling purview at Paramount Global — pivots toward the Yellowstone franchise model that has driven viewers to Paramount+.
In a Jan. 30 memo to staff outlining a rebranding of the pay cable network to “Paramount+ With Showtime,” McCarthy (who oversees Paramount Network, MTV and Comedy Central, among others) pointed to “turning our hit shows into global hit franchises” and integrating the brand’s content into the premium tier of Paramount+ With Showtime. Starz is in talks to save “Three Women,” the Shailene Woodley-led series that was completed but never saw the light of day before being axed by Showtime, a source close to the production told TheWrap on Tuesday.
Last month, the cabler scored a second-season pickup of”Minx,” another female-centric series that was cut without being aired by HBO Max.
DeWanda Wise (“She’s Gotta Have It”), Betty Gilpin (“Glow”) and Gabrielle Creevy of BBC series “In My Skin” co-star in the series as three women who “radically overturn their lives,” per the original logline.

Days after Showtime cut bait on the already completed series “Three Women” starring Shailene Woodley, Starz has swooped in to acquire and rescue the show, as first reported in THR. However, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire that negotiations for the rights to the show were still underway.
THR also reported that “Three Women,” which is based on the book by Lisa Taddeo, was also shopped to HBO and Amazon before it landed at Starz.
Starz had no comment.
Though it’s already finished principal production, Showtime followed a trend that began with “Batgirl,” in which streamers and networks cut their losses and take tax write-offs for already completed or in-the-works projects. Should a deal close, “Three Women” would add to Starz’s previously rescuing the upcoming second season of “Minx,” which first premiered on HBO last year. That show was produced by Starz’s parent company, Lionsgate TV.

‘Three Women’: Starz In Negotiations For Series Starring Shailene Woodley Following Showtime Release
Three Women has zeroed in on a new home. Starz is in negotiations to pick up the former Showtime series, adapted by Lisa Taddeo from her nonfiction bestseller of the same name, sources tell Deadline.
As Deadline reported exclusively last week, the producers of Three Women, starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, had been quietly shopping the completed first season of the series after Showtime opted not to proceed with it as part of an ongoing slate reevaluation ahead of its integration into Paramount+.
There had been interest, with multiple premium/streaming players still in play and Starz entering negotiations that are progressing quickly, I hear.
In Three Women, a group of women are on a crash course to radically overturn their lives. The series is executive produced by Taddeo, showrunner Laura Eason, Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum. Louise Friedberg directed and executive produced the first two episodes.

The series adaptation of the novel “Three Women” is nearing a revival at Starz, Variety has confirmed with sources. The series was previously set up at Showtime but that network scrapped the show despite having shot the entire first season. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, negotiations are currently underway.
Starz declined to comment.
Based on Lisa Taddeo’s novel of the same name, Shailene Woodley stars in the series along with DeWanda Wise, Betty Gilpin, Gabrielle Creevy, Blair Underwood, and John Patrick Amedori.
The official logline for the show states it is about “three women on a crash course to radically overturn their lives. There is Sloane (Wise), a glamorous entrepreneur in a committed open marriage until two sexy new strangers threaten their aspirational love story, and Maggie, a North Dakota student who weathers an intense storm after accusing her married English teacher of an inappropriate relationship.

Ahead of the Showtime and Paramount+ merger, Paramount Global is cleaning house. “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In,” two drama series that premiered last year, have been canceled at the channel, IndieWire has confirmed.
In addition, Showtime will no longer be proceeding with the series “Three Women,” starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, and Gabrielle Creevy. The series, which finished principal production, will be shopped to other outlets, and “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In” are also reportedly being shopped.

Though production on the Shailene Woodley-led drama “Three Women” has already been completed, the series will no longer premiere on Showtime, which has also decided not to renew “Let the Right One In” and “American Gigolo.” The three series are the first known casualties as Paramount moves the Showtime brand moves under the purview of Paramount+ and reprioritizes its content.
Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced on Monday that Showtime’s cable network would be renamed to “Paramount+ With Showtime” while its streaming service would collapse into Paramount+, noting that the company “will divert investment away from areas that are underperforming and that account for less than 10 of our views. We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential.”
Adapted from Lisa Taddeo’s novel of the same name, “Three Women” landed at Showtime after a competitive bidding war.

Showtime is thinning its roster of scripted originals in the wake of its consolidation with Paramount+.
Scripted dramas Let the Right One In and American Gigolo have both been canceled and the Shailene Woodley-led adaptation of Three Women is no longer moving forward at the premium cable network. The latter series, which has already completed production, is being shopped to other outlets.
Both American Gigolo and Let the Right One In had been in the works for years before debuting in 2022 on the Paramount Global-backed premium cable network. Neither series lit the ratings on fire and reviews were mixed, at best.

Exclusive: Paramount Global just announced that Showtime will be integrated into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear later this year. In preparation for the move, the premium cable network, which will be renamed as Paramount+ with Showtime, had been re-evaluating its programming slate over the past several weeks under its new top executive Chris McCarthy.
As a result, Showtime will not be proceeding with new series Three Women, starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, which has been completed. The drama has been quietly shopped by its producers, and I hear there has been interest, with at least one offer on the table.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins took the stage inside Park City’s Egyptian Theatre on Sunday afternoon to share the spotlight with author Lisa Taddeo, renowned intimacy coordinator Ita O’Brien and Couples Therapy star Dr. Orna Guralnik to talk all things intimacy for an official Sundance Film Festival panel, Power of Story: On Intimacy. But before he could go deep on the subject, Jenkins had to clear his throat with a compliment.
His partner, award-winning filmmaker Lulu Wang, is a huge fan of Couples Therapy, and she’s seen all three seasons (more than once), and she’s “slowly” been getting him to watch the Showtime series. Once he arrived at Sunday’s panel, he realized the moderator was the same therapist from the series, so he immediately texted Wang. “You have to tell her how much I love the show,” Jenkins said of Wang’s response.

Nia DaCosta, the director of “Candyman” and the upcoming “The Marvels,” will next write and direct a feature film adaptation of the Henrik Ibsen play “Hedda Gabler” for MGM’s Orion Pictures and Plan B Entertainment.
Ibsen’s play, which has been adapted and staged in numerous forms in the years dating back to its 1891 debut, follows the title character as she navigates a house she does not want, a marriage she feels trapped in and an ex-lover who has reappeared in her life. The role of Hedda Gabler is considered one of the great dramatic roles in all of theater, and DaCosta’s adaptation will be a new take on the classic story.
Gabrielle Nadig, who worked with DaCosta on her debut film “Little Woods,” will produce along with Plan B.
