As an actor, Matthew Perry was nominated for four Emmys. He was a regular in the generation-defining ensemble smash Friends and, as a guest star, seamlessly integrated into the spectacular ensemble on shows like The West Wing and The Good Wife.
The show that best understood Perry’s sensibility and, more than that, the essence of what he projected best onscreen may not have been one of his signature successes, and may not be one of the first half-dozen shows that heartbroken fans look back on as we reflect on Perry, who died this weekend at 54. Empirically, it wasn’t a success at all.
Go On ran for 22 episodes on NBC between 2012 and 2013 and was canceled after that lone season. It has fans — any show with an ensemble that included Tyler James Williams, Laura Benanti, Brett Gelman, Sarah Baker, John Cho and more is going to find fans — but only a small audience.

The Enfield Poltergeist, directed by Jerry Rothwell, is a montage of the supernatural, science, childhood trauma, and many other aspects. This mini-documentary series pulls lightly at the strings of horror while focusing more on the scientific aspects. The events surrounding the Hodgson family and the experiences that they have had have been explored here. The intervention of Maurice Grosse, a member of the Society for Psychical Research (Spr), between 1977 and 1978 with more than 200 hours of tape recordings has been highlighted. The four-part mini-documentary series brings out a real-life infamous case of the haunting at a house in Enfield, reminding us of similar movies based on real-life stories like The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Amityville Horror, and others. Was Maurice able to rid the Hodgsons of the torture of the poltergeist? Was Janice really possessed, or was she faking things to garner attention? Let us look into what several witnesses...

Chicago – Michael Shannon is also a film director. The distinctive actor, who has wowed cinema fans with his performances over the years, showcased his directorial debut at the 59th Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff) with “Eric Larue.” Shannon did a master class on directing, walked the Red Carpet and appeared at the film screening.
Janice Larue is (Judy Greer) a middle-aged mother coming to terms with a shooting spree perpetrated by her son. Adapted from Brett Neveu’s 2002 play — which debuted at A Red Orchid Theatre in Chicago — the film follows the shell-shocked Janice as she attempts to navigate the tragedy in her small town. While a local pastor tries to reconcile Janice with the victims’ mothers, Janice’s feeble husband (Alexander Skarsgård) finds refuge in an upstart church led by a motivational preacher (Tracy Letts). But Janice must find her own way. The film was a Special Presentation of the 59th Ciff.

This article contains spoilers for "Barry" season 4 episode 1. "Barry" just entered its final season, and it's going out with a bang. A lot of mysteries still loom in the air and almost every character is floating, with their every attempt to reach out to one another thwarted at every turn. Will Barry make it out of prison? Will the other shoe drop for Cousineau? Will NoHo Hank make it out of season 4 alive? So much happens in the season premiere that one suspenseful moment almost slips through the cracks. When NoHo Hank calls Barry's phone, someone else picks up. Who is it, and how do they have it?
The most natural conclusion would be that the police have it. Barry is in prison for murder, so it's only natural that a branch of the police would take possession of his phone. Barry's ex-mentor/tormentor, Fuches, strikes a deal with the...

Bill Hader insists he never had any long range plans for “Barry’s” storylines.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the HBO series’ fourth and final season on Sunday, Hader told Variety when he first began the process of developing and pitching “Barry” seven years ago, he had “no idea where the series was going to end up.”
In fact, he says, Season 4 is “totally different” than his original plans. As the series wrapped, Hader revealed those final days were “very bittersweet,” but everyone was “also so tired, we were exhausted,” he said, laughing.
“Barry’s” fourth season picks up with Barry in prison after killing Janice (Paula Newsome), his mentor Gene Cousineau’s (Henry Winkler) girlfriend, in Season 1. “I had some sense of where we were headed,” said Sarah Goldberg, who plays Sally. “But I was very surprised by all the details on the way there.”

This article contains mild spoilers for "Barry" season 4.Through the first two episodes of "Barry" season 4 (read /Film's review), Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) is getting adjusted to life behind bars after his acting teacher and mentor, Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), helped capture him to avenge his girlfriend, Detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome). After getting confirmation from Cousineau that he worked with Janice's father, Jim Moss (Robert Wisdom), to arrest him, Barry is understandably shattered. Betrayed, he phones his ex-girlfriend Sally (Sarah Goldberg) who promptly tells him to never contact her again.
It's a devastating blow for Barry who is still coming to terms with the fact that becoming an actor didn't quell his desire to kill. In fact, unlocking his emotions only exacerbated the problem. Acting was supposed to be his creative outlet, but instead, moonlighting as an assassin was still his true, dark calling.

This post contains spoilers for "Barry" season 4, episode 1, "yikes," and episode 2, "bestest place on the earth."
One of the most important relationships in "Barry" is between the eponymous hitman turned actor (Bill Hader) and his handler/honorary uncle, Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root). Fuches is the one who turned Barry into a hitman (he was already a killer from his military service in Afghanistan). So when Barry wants to try a new vocation and join the acting class of Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), Fuches objects, knowing that spells the end of his gravy train. Their partnership falls apart over season 1, and they've now tried to kill each other multiple times.
Season 3 of "Barry" ended with a sense of comeuppance. After entrapment by Cousineau, Barry was finally arrested for killing Detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome) — Cousineau's girlfriend — back in the season 1 finale. Fuches was arrested too, courtesy of Janice's father Jim...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for Episodes 1 and 2 of “Barry” Season 4, now streaming on HBO.
If you thought there was no hope left for Barry Berkman, you’re wrong. He’s still on the path to finding what he’s searching for — because he’s no longer searching for redemption.
When we last saw Barry (series creator Bill Hader), he was finally getting his comeuppance: Mr. Cousineau (Henry Winkler) and Jim Moss (Robert Wisom) worked together to get him arrested for killing Janice (Paula Newsome), who was Cousineau’s girlfriend and Jim’s daughter. The handcuffs were a jarring cap on three seasons that spent so much time and effort questioning whether Barry was capable of finding a good person within himself and committing to a nonviolent lifestyle for good. But as Season 4 opens, Barry is a miserable shell of himself, scavenging for a reason — any reason — to live.

Fame is a funny thing. Of course, on the HBO series "Barry," fame is a terrifyingly dangerous thing. "Barry" begins its fourth and final season with a two-episode premiere, exploring the darkest possible version of what fame can bring. But it took three seasons for that lifestyle to catch up with him in tangible ways. [This story contains spoilers for the first two episodes of Barry season four.]
Justice just wasn’t enough for Gene Cousineau.
In the season three finale of Barry, Henry Winkler’s character and Jim Moss (Robert Wisdom) had Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) dead to rights for the attempted murder of Moss, as well as his previous murder of Moss’ daughter and Gene’s girlfriend, Janice (Paula Newsome). However, in the two-episode premiere of Barry’s fourth and final season, Gene has potentially put the case in jeopardy by delivering a one-man show to Vanity Fair journalist Lon Oneil (Patrick Fischler) about his entire history with his murderous acting student, something he and Moss explicitly agreed not to do.
Prior to his one-man show, Gene had already made the news for his brave efforts that helped catch Barry, and he went on to receive a hero’s welcome from the live-studio audience during a taping of his show, MasterClass. He even got to gloat...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Barry” Season 4, Episode 1, “Yikes.”]
For a long time, “Barry” felt like it existed in its own little bubble. Even with the flashbacks to Berkman hit jobs and the references to past Gene Cousineau ego disasters and Sally making an entire TV show about her hometown and Fuches’ goatherd retreat and organized crime elements from multiple different countries mobilizing their forces, they all seemed to arrive on the doorstep of a self-contained North Hollywood. All those forces have been trying to worm their way inside the perimeter that the show’s title character seemed, for a time, to have set up for himself.
Then, home stopped feeling like home. Guilt started to engulf everyone caught up in Barry’s (Bill Hader) orbit. Before he’d been arrested, Barry had already started to retreat to an imagined shoreline, standing in the midst of his past victims. The bubble had burst and everything inside it began to seep out.

Today in news that will totally make you smile (I hope!), I'm thrilled to be the one to remind you there's a new Muppets series coming to Disney+ -- one that takes a deep dive into the rockin' world of The Electric Mayhem Band, aka that band of Muppets that is a regular fixture in most Jim Henson properties. Cute, right? Needless to say, I'm ready for "The Muppets Mayhem"— and the trailer is a major reason why.
In the show's sneak peek, we get reacquainted with the band and find out they've made a mark on some of the world's most famous musicians, including Tommy Lee, Chris Stapleton, and Lil Nas X. But the trailer drops a bomb on us: the legendary group has never actually made a record together. This show chronicles what exactly happens on Mayhem's quest to finally produce an album, many years after the height of their music career.

Early in the new season of Barry, the show’s title character is told that while he has done bad things, “I’m sure you’re not a bad guy.” This is among the most clichéd sentiments of a 21st century television littered with stories of monstrous actions committed by seemingly less-than-monstrous individuals.
Barry has never been exactly that. Despite sharing DNA with the Walter Whites of the TV world, the series has felt wholly original from the jump, even as it’s evolved from Hollywood satire into something much darker and deeper.
