I admire a well-thought-out and implemented theme, and Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 impresses with not one, not two, but Three father storylines that, ironically, aired on Mother's Day.
The other theme is that of unmasking and revelation. We get Sophie and Ryan coming clean with each other, Jacob's secret being thrust into the light, and Alice's sudden realization that "Circe" is Kate.
And yet, with all the developments in terms of long-term plots and character relationships, the highlight of the whole hour for me was Luke and Stephanie's sweet little kiss.
The kicker is that, with only five episodes left in the season, I can't imagine we'll be seeing Stephanie Brown again soon.
Ryan: So you woke up to discover you were covered in some coded message?
Stephanie: You say that like your dad doesn't write cryptograms on you while you're unconscious.

In a sea of uncertainty, the one thing Batwoman Season 2 Episode 6 makes super-duper clear is Jacob Kane has the worst parenting instincts on the planet.
After giving up on finding Beth only to have her evolve into Alice, and antagonizing and attacking Kate in her guise of Batwoman, he now discovers Mary's been helping the underprivileged citizens of Gotham.
Is he proud of his step-daughter's abilities and ingenuity? Nope. Shut 'er down. It's illegal.
Seriously.
But that's not even the most ridiculous element of this narrative.
That podium belongs to Dr. Rogers, the Hamilton Dynamics physician who thinks it's a good idea to send a brain-damaged patient -- whose brain He damaged -- with major rage issues into the general population to kidnap and torture his own (titular) bosses.
Let's not forget that Rogers also planned to kill as many test subjects as "necessary" to prove they could reproduce the serum.

It’s official: The CW superhero series Batwoman won’t just be missing star Ruby Rose when it returns for its sophomore season in 2021. It’ll be without Kate Kane herself. The powers that be have decided that, rather than try and recast its lead, the show will instead jettison the character entirely and reframe itself around the idea of a completely different woman taking up the cowl.
This will likely go down in history as one of the worst decisions the Arrowverse has ever made.
To remove Kate Kane from Batwoman is to abandon everything that has made the show unique and memorable thus far, from its secondary characters to its direct connection to Gotham City and the Batman mythos. It’s a slap in the face to Lgbt comics fans who’ve been waiting years to see a real version of Kate Kane onscreen, not because she is Batwoman,...

The CW’s “Batwoman” pilot has cast Elizabeth Anweis, Variety has learned.
Anweis will play Catherine Hamilton-Kane, the stepmother of Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman. Catherine made her fortune as a savvy, bullheaded defense contractor, and all those billions position Catherine as one of Gotham’s most powerful residents. For Catherine, it’s a matter of the bottom line: Batwoman is bad for business.
Ruby Rose is set to star as the titular lesbian DC superhero, who was first introduced in the latest DC series crossover on CW. Anweis will star with Rose along with previously announced cast members Dougray Scott — who will play Kate’s father Jacob Kane — Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, and Rachel Skarsten.
In addition to her work as a model and artist, Anweis’ TV credits include shows like “9-1-1,” “Twin Peaks: The Return,” “The Affair,” “Southland,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” She is repped by Jla Talent,...

Kate Kane's father will be a big part of The CW's Batwoman if it goes to series.
The pilot has added Dougray Scott to its cast.
He is on board to play Jacob Kane.
Jacob is a former military colonel who leads Gotham’s private security firm The Crows.
He “has made it his mission to protect his city better than the Dark Knight ever could,” per the official character description.

“But it’s only a matter of time before his unwavering disdain for vigilantes puts him at odds with Gotham’s new caped crusader…who also happens to be his own daughter (played by Ruby Rose).”
It's certainly a convincing hook and one that will surely get viewers talking.
There's a good chance Jacob will have no idea that Kate is the one who is trying to keep the mean streets of Gotham City safe.

The CW's new "Batwoman" TV pilot, directed by Marcos Siega ("The Vampire Diaries"), is based on the DC Comics character, starring actor Dougray Scott as 'Jacob Kane', a former military colonel and father of 'Kate Kane' aka 'Batwoman' (Ruby Rose):
"...'Jacob' is a former military colonel with a chip on his shoulder for the 'Batman'. He commands the 'Gotham' private security firm 'The Crows' and has made it his mission to protect his city better than the 'Dark Knight' ever could.
"Now it's only a matter of time before his unwavering disdain for vigilantes puts him at odds with a new 'Caped Crusader'...
"...who happens to be his own daughter.."
"But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, 'Kate' must overcome her own deviant demons...
"...including a fractured family and an unattainable love.

The CW has added veteran Scottish actor Dougray Scott to its “Batwoman” pilot as well as swapped in Marcos Siega for previous director David Nutter, Variety has learned.
The pilot, which stars Ruby Rose as the eponymous caped heroine, is being helmed by DC TV head Greg Berlanti, and was penned by “Vampire Diaries” alum Caroline Dries. Nutter has had to step aside for personal reasons, but will remain as an Ep on the pilot. The character made her debut in a December DC crossover episode which melded heroes from three CW shows: “Supergirl,” “Flash” and “Arrow.”
Scott is boarding in the role of Jacob Kane, a former military colonel who harbors a grudge against Batman and has made it his mission to one-up the Dark Knight in protecting Gotham. However, his disdain for vigilantes soon puts him at odds with the city’s newest caped crusader, who also happens to be his own daughter.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Kate Kane, Gotham’s newfound protector, will be sticking around for the long haul on The CW.
At least, that’s according to network chief Mark Pedowitz, who recently teased that the upcoming Batwoman TV show will soon be of equal importance to the other five DC series on The CW – namely Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning.
If you’ve been keeping pace with the project’s development lately, you’ll know that Ruby Rose, star of John Wick: Chapter Two and Orange is the New Black, found herself chosen for the coveted role late last year, with Caroline Dries and Arrowverse architect Greg Berlant set to call the shots from behind the scenes. And now, with production heating up, the rest of the cast is starting to fill out.

David Nutter is stepping down as director of The CW’s “Batwoman” pilot, with Marcos Siega replacing him.
Nutter, who will remain as an executive producer, is quitting for personal reasons. He’s best known for his work on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” including directing the “Red Wedding” and half of the series’ upcoming final six episodes. He won an Emmy for his work on “Game of Thrones” in 2015.
The CW pilot also cast another key role, with Dougray Scott coming aboard as Jacob Kane, aka the father of Ruby Rose’s title character.

If anything, 2019 has gotten off to a great start for fans of Kate Kane. To be more specific, not only has The CW officially ordered a pilot episode for a solo Batwoman series to be filmed, but they’ve also assigned one of the most prolific and competent directors in modern television history the job of helming the thing.
We are, of course, talking about David Nutter.
If his name sounds at all familiar to you, it should, because he’s also directed pilots for both Arrow and The Flash, not to mention Smallville. Aside from those DC favorites, Nutter was also on board when a little series called Supernatural was first getting off the ground (you may have heard of it), plus he can actually lay claim to having Game of Thrones on his resume. Heck, this gentleman was even behind the lens for Superboy and The X-Files back in the day!

It’s probably fair to say that for a lot of people, their favorite thing about the “Elseworlds” crossover was that of Ruby Rose’s debut as Batwoman. If social media is any indication, most of you reading this are probably in agreement. I mean, not only did Gotham City’s new protector come across as being badass, but the actress was perfect in the role. Heck, her voice even sounded like you’d imagine it would from reading the comics.
As such, it’s no surprise to now learn that The CW has picked up the pilot for Kate Kane’s standalone series. Deadline’s reporting that the network’s given a pilot order to Batwoman, with David Nutter (who also helmed the pilot for The Flash) tapped to direct. This was expected to happen given the strong script which came in last month and the positive reception to Rose’s debut in “Elseworlds,...
