After Lucille Ball's spunky housewife Lucy signed off on the last episode of "I Love Lucy" but before Mary Tyler Moore did away with the nuclear family sitcom model with her own self-titled show, another actress was one of the faces of womanhood in comedy. Oscar-winning actress Donna Reed headlined "The Donna Reed Show" from 1958 to 1966, playing middle-class mother and housewife Donna Stone in the popular black-and-white series. Reed starred opposite Carl Betz, who played Donna's husband, pediatrician Dr. Alex Stone. In season 5, family friends Midge and Dave joined the fun, but for the most part, the show was all about the lighthearted hijinks of the Stone family.
Though "The Donna Reed Show" was popular upon release, it's now perhaps most often referenced as a pop cultural window into a time before second-wave feminism, when women were expected to spend their time cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing while men went to work.

After six seasons, it appears The Resident is about to take its last breath.
Although a Fox rep maintains that no official renewal/cancellation decision has been made, multiple sources confirm to TVLine that the medical drama — recently noted by TVLine as one of 13 broadcast series with very uncertain futures — stands little chance of returning for a seventh season.

Chastain lives to see another day, and these characters we've grown to love over this series are in such a bright place.
The beauty of The Resident Season 6 Episode 13 is that if this is the end, if, for whatever reason, we never get another season or episode from this series that stole our hearts six years ago, then the finale managed to provide some form of closure while allowing the possibility of more.
By the second half of the hour, as things wound down, the tone was so hopeful and inspiring that it was hard not to walk away lighter and with a fondness and appreciation for the show and characters.
In this day and age, we can lose beloved series in the blink of an eye, sometimes at the most inopportune times, leaving fans and viewers hanging. It was nice that The Resident had the foresight to give us...

Our hearts are already in our chests over Sami's life hanging in the balance!
If you thought The Resident Season 6 Episode 12 was intense, they're coming in hot with the second part of the finale, The Resident Season 6 Episode 13, when Sammie is rushed to Chastain after getting sick on the plane.
And we need Sammie to be okay!
When we lost saw Sammie, she was on the plane with Jake and Greg as the family was coming into town to visit Kitbell and attend Gigi's sixth birthday.
And with a family of doctors and Chastain's reputation, you can bet Jake rushed his daughter to see her grandparents as soon as they stepped foot off of that plane.
Sammie already has a terrifying history after nearly passing away many years ago because of her cancer.
One can only hope that whatever is wrong with her, it's not beyond Chastain's finest.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 9, “No Pressure No Diamonds.”] Unfortunately, Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) didn’t scare off Governor Betz (Steven Culp), and he’s just making things worse for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. His latest move, following that lawsuit, was an article with the headline “Dangerous Doctor at Chastain.” That comes just as Bell is set to perform a risky surgery on one of Dr. Devon Pravesh’s (Manish Dayal) patients: the implantation of a titanium rib cage. What’s more: a documentary crew is going to film it. It’s not only good for the partnership Devon, through his clinical trials, is getting going with a robotics company (that made the ribs), but it would be good publicity for Chastain as well — at a time that it could use it with Betz slashing its budget. Kit only agrees to it being filmed if they...

Where is Padma?
It was the lingering question by the end of The Resident Season 6 Episode 9 when Aj returned home with the twins to an empty apartment in disarray and his babies' mother gone.
The hour also saw Bell deciding to leave again after the stress from Betz's attacks caused his Ms to flare-up.
For the most part, the hour was an underwhelming, mediocre installment that didn't leave much of an impression. Frankly, even while typing this, I've forgotten most of what transpired throughout it.
They keep picking up and randomly dropping continuity with storylines and threads to them, so we got a follow-up on Bell with the Betz situation this time. Then they revisited Padma's post-partum depression again, albeit briefly.
But we have no idea what's happening with the Sullivans, where things lie with Billie and Conrad, whether or not she's still seeing this new doctor, and whatever...

Betz's vendetta may mean Bell's chickens have come home to roost.
Much of the hour focused on the drug epidemic among teenagers on The Resident Season 6 Episode 8, but some of the biggest plot developments pertained to Betz's quest to destroy Bell and Ian coming clean and heading to rehab.
Join Laura Nowak, Leora W., and Meaghan Frey as they discuss it all.
What did you think of how the series handled the fentanyl epidemic, particularly among teens?
Laura: It's so sad the number of teens who abuse drugs. I liked how realistic they handled the drug addiction. It wasn't preachy, but they didn't gloss over the seriousness of it either.
Leora W: It was a little preachy, but that's par for the course with this show. However, one important thing to note, which I promised my friend I would bring up, is that they, unfortunately, perpetuated the myth that...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 8, “The Better Part of Valor.”] Dr. Randolph Bell’s (Bruce Greenwood) very recent past comes back to bite him in the latest episode of The Resident — but Governor Betz (Steven Culp) learns not to mess with his wife, Chastain CEO Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves). After Bell embarrassed him in front of the press in “The Chimera,” Betz has him served with court papers just as he’s receiving the Lifetime of Service Award for what he’s done for Chastain. Kit suggests he postpone his deposition until they have more information, but he’s not worried since he’s been through it many times. Claire’s sepsis was too far along to ...

We've only had him for two installments, and I already want Betz to go away.
The man is awful! It takes a petty, vengeful, vindictive person to have a man served with court papers in the middle of a ceremony honoring him, but that was The Resident Season 6 Episode 8's opener, thanks to Betz.
On the plus, we saw Conrad drop everything and make a beeline for that stage, ready to tackle the guy in case he meant to cause Bell harm, and we always win with heroic Conrad.
It's ridiculous that a man running for governor has all the time in the world to fixate on Bell and destroy him because Bell embarrassed him publicly.
If this is what Betz is doing now, can you imagine how terrible things will be when he's in office? And it's such a waste of resources and time to sicc his attack dog lawyer,...

Making enemies with the new governor (Steven Culp) is proving to be a major problem for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. Betz has enlisted a spy at Chastain and is digging up dirt on Bell (specifically looking for possible lawsuits), and now, in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek, the surgeon is served court papers from a former patient while receiving the Lifetime of Service Award for how much he’s meant to the hospital! In the November 15 episode, Bell is honored as “someone who has done more for Chastain than perhaps any other one person. He has saved more lives than could possibly be counted….” And the staff is in attendance. That includes Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), with Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas), and her new love interest Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale), who seems to be having a good time.

Peak medical drama greatness is when the E.R. descends into chaos!
It was one of many highlights of The Resident Season 6 Episode 2, as the emotional hour's thematic approach centered on control -- having it, losing it, and trying to function despite it being out of one's hands.
And we also got the introduction of a sweet new character.
In hindsight, this hour felt like it could have made an excellent season opener. It had a bustling E.R., medical cases that not only got the audience invested but reflected on the characters we loved as well, and so many emotional notes, dynamic character interactions, and the promise of a looming threat that will impact the season.
While they are not precisely mincing words regarding Betz and who he represents, the setup for how his win will impact the city and hospital is glaring.
What's exciting about it is how passionate Kit is about this,...
