Blood is a horror film directed by Brad Anderson starring Michelle Monaghan.
A horror film in which, curiously, the acting is outstanding.
And this is not exactly good for the genre: don´t do much scarin’.
Movie Review Blood (2022)
Blood is a movie that, despite its title, does not cause an impact that it should in the retina of the viewer, at least for a (supposedly) horror film.
This is a good movie in all senses, from the technical level all the way to the development of the characters and the settings. It has rhythm and takes its time to do the presentations, in developing the feelings of the child and the dog correctly, but this development, which is kind of tiresome, will detract the horror from the fans who expect something a little more impacting, and above all, horrifying.
Blood, in this sense, is almost a realistic film with suspense.

Genre films have often utilized the depiction of vampirism as a powerful metaphor for addiction, as seen in films like The Hunger (1983), The Addiction (19995), and Habit (1997). More recently, My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To (2020) used vampirism as a potent allegory not only for addiction, but also for people living with chronic illness and the toll it takes on their caregivers. In his new film Blood, written by Will Honley (Bloodline), director Brad Anderson adeptly blends motherhood, vampirism, and chronic illness, emphasized by the need for blood, to present a compelling story of a family torn apart.
Blood stars Michelle Monaghan as Jess, a caring nurse and mother, who is also a recovering addict going through a nasty divorce and a battle for custody of her children. Jess’ ex-husband, played by Skeet Ulrich, got the house, the babysitter, and a new baby, and is using Jess’ previous struggles...

Last week, we shared a clip from Session 9 (watch it Here) director Brad Anderson’s new horror film Blood that showed characters played by Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Finlay Wojtak-Hissong (The Banana Splits Movie) getting attacked by a vicious dog. Now another clip from Blood has arrived online, and this one shows Monaghan’s character going to extreme lengths to help her son after that dog attack. You can watch the clip in the embed at the bottom of this article.

Vampirism has been treated as a metaphor for more prosaic addictions in movies before. In “Blood,” however, it’s one more hassle a recovering addict doesn’t need added to the burdens of her already discordant family life. Starring Michelle Monaghan as a mother just out of rehab whose young son gets bitten — then develops an insatiable appetite for the titular fluid — Brad Anderson’s film steers a middle course between dysfunctional domestic drama and supernatural horror. That balance doesn’t completely work. But solid performances and some strong, occasionally unpleasant content make this an involving if not entirely satisfying watch. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to limited U.S. theaters this Friday, then On Demand platforms Jan. 31.

If you aren't already satiated on blood from 2022, the erstwhile Year of the Vampire, not to worry. 2023 has already hit the ground running with trailers for more than one new vampire movie. The first week of the New Year brought a trailer for "Renfield," in which Nicholas Hoult plays a super-powered, action-comedy version of the title character, while Nicolas Cage plays his toxic master, Dracula himself. Now, Michelle Monaghan is flying over with "Blood," another vampire movie that's headed your way very soon.
Sharpen your wooden stakes — or your porcelain fangs, whichever you prefer — and get the details on "Blood," below.
Where And When Can I See Blood?
You can see blood in refrigerated bags in the hospital and sometimes on the mouths of vampire younglings. I won't call them "children" because these little monsters, like the one at the center of "Blood," don't deserve to be humanized when they're sucking plasma from people.

Robin Wright spends most of “Land” alone, but that’s not how her character Edee sees it. Newly widowed and raw with sorrow for reasons left (mostly) unsaid, Edee abandons nearly everything about her old life and buys a cabin on the side of a mountain in Wyoming — barely a shack, really, with no running water or electricity, surrounded by wilderness. Isolation serves a specific purpose for Edee, one that Wright, in a directorial debut so pure and simple it speaks to enormous self-confidence, has better instincts than to reveal outright.
It takes maturity to make a film like “Land,” a human mystery that trusts audiences to supply their own answers. So often, first-time helmers feel tempted to use their movies as show-offy sizzle reels for all they can do, getting in the way of the material. When actors transition, it can be even more self-indulgent, as frustrated performers try...

"You're both in danger, you need to destroy it!" Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Dreamkatcher, which is indeed about a haunted dreamcatcher. Not to be confused with the other dreamcatcher horror (from 2003) titled, of course, Dreamcatcher (this new one has a "k" incase you didn't notice). In order to try and stop his bad dreams, a young boy steals a dreamcatcher from a mysterious neighbor forcing his family to rescue him from a nightmarish entity now chasing him. The film stars Radha Mitchell, Henry Thomas, Jules Willcox, Finlay Wojtak-Hissong as Josh, as well as horror regular Lin Shaye. This is being dropped straight-to-vod and it definitely looks that bad. How much weight do you put into a strong performance within a film that has its fair share of issues? Can a single turn lift up an entire project? Honestly, it really depends on the movie and the acting turn in question. Sometimes, it can be enough to warrant a recommendation, while at other times, it still falls a little bit short. In the case of this week’s new release The Kindness of Strangers, we’re faced with a similar situation. The flick is a mixed bag, though its ensemble cast is led by a wonderful performance by Zoe Kazan. In the end, she does manage to drag this one across the finish line, generating enough goodwill for a mild recommendation. The movie is a drama that takes its title largely literally. The lynchpin is Clara (Kazan), an abused wife who packs up her two sons Anthony (Jack Fulton...

One banana, two banana, three banana, Gore! The cult-favorite animal rock-band from Hanna-Barbera’s 1968 The Banana Splits Adventure Hour variety program is back with a blood-spattered vengeance as a young boy named Harley and his family go to a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley. But things take an unexpected turn… and the body count quickly rises.
It would seem Warner Bros., through production company Blue Ribbon Content, have taken a leaf out of Universal’s Dtv playbook and commissioned a series of direct to market, low-to-mid budget movies that capitalise on existing franchises. Unless you really think Danishka Esterhazy’s The Banana Splits Movie is going to mimic the kid-friendly environment of the 1960s Hanna-Barbera series, it won’t come as too much of a shock to learn that these are not the same Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snork of your childhood. No, in their big screen debut and faint rebirth back into the social stream, these four splits’ goal is to simply split you. And with this bloodthirsty reincarnation comes one of the strangest and, not speaking to its quality, welcomed films of the year.
With fans from all boroughs of pop culture demanding neatly packaged nostalgia trips, this picture mangles the memory of a kid’s pop-rock band and turns it into a gruesome pack of furry killing machines. Its premise is bold, radical, and, in terms of branding, everlasting. While the idea of The Banana Splits has been left on...

There’s a new horror movie project coming that’s currently in production called Dreamkatcher and it’s brought together a pretty great cast that includes Henry Thomas (The Haunting Of Hill House), Lin Shaye (Insidious), and Radha Mitchell (The Romanoffs).
The story follows “a Manhattan therapist (Mitchell) who travels upstate with her boyfriend (Thomas) and his orphaned son who is tormented by nightmares of his dead mother. When the husband is forced to return to the city, the therapist remains with the boy and they encounter a mysterious neighbor (Shaye) in the woods.”
Producer Christian Taylor talked a little bit more about the film saying, “Dreamkatcher is a grounded horror-thriller that explores themes of science vs the supernatural and I’m thrilled to be working with Kerry and this incredible cast”.
The movie is being directed by first time filmmaker Kerry Harris and is based on a story that...

"Now the show can go on forever... and ever... and ever...!!" The beloved children's show is back... with a vengeance, a horrible, bloody vengeance. What is this! Ha! Syfy has debuted the official trailer for a horror feature titled The Banana Splits Movie, a re-imagining of the classic children's show on TV in the 1970s ("The Banana Splits Adventure Hour") as a horror movie. The plot is about a kid who goes to a taping of the show, only to discover the four furry main characters – Bingo, Fleegle, Drooper and Snorky – are actually killers. Over thirty episodes of "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour" originally aired between 1968 and 1970, with costumes and sets designed by Sid & Marty Krofft. This new movie stars Dani Kind, Finlay Wojtak-Hissong, Steve Lund, Sara Canning, Maria Nash, and Romeo Carere. We don't often feature direct-to-vod films, but can't help it this time! This is so nuts and it actually looks crazy good!

These aren't the Hanna-Barbera characters you remember. Mainly because they never killed anyone. That we know of.
While we sit and twiddle our thumbs waiting for a Five Nights At Freddy's movie, Syfy's Banana Splits Movie will seemingly go some way to keeping us sated for a bit.
Gore is not the first thing you tend to think of when reminiscing about the beloved live-action Hanna-Barbera series, but Fleegle the Beagle, Bingo the Gorilla, Drooper the Lion, and Snorky the Elephant are coming back in a rather more violent capacity to dish out some bloody vengeance in The Banana Splits Movie.
Directed by Danishka Esterhazy (Level 16) and written by Jed Elinoff & Scott Thomas, this reimagining of the 'Splits takes them down a dark path, one that they likely never envisioned when they blessed the small screen back in '68 to '70. The original actors to wear the...

A revival of the classic Hanna-Barbera costumed characters will have The Banana Splits leaning in to their creepy side.
As a child, I was scared by everything from the Blue Meanies from The Beatles' Yellow Submarine movie to Waylon Flowers' wise-cracking Madame puppet.
Admittedly, I was a weird kid.
But in my defense, growing up in the 1970s and '80s meant that you were bombarded with supposedly lovable characters who were in fact nothing but weaponized nightmare fuel.. Chief among these marketable terrors were the characters featured Hanna-Barbera's variety show/hellscape The Banana Splits.
Airing for two seasons from 1968-70, then repeated in syndication for perpetuity, this series combined the live-action antics of the animal-costumed characters Fleegle, Drooper, Bingo, and Snorky as they had indescrible adventures filmed at amusement parks that were intercut with other segments.

Well, here’s some interesting and weird movie news! the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera kids program The Banana Splits is going to be making a come back as a film! But, there’s a little twist… it’s going to be a horror movie!
The Banana Splits is a TV series that premiered in 1968. It’s way before my time, and I’m not really familiar with it. But I went to YouTube to watch a few videos for it, and it definitely looks like it could and should be a psycho horror movie! Here’s a little description of it:
A laugh track-laden collection of live-action buffoonery and animated segments for undiscerning young minds. Whether in their crazy clubhouse or out cavorting among the public, costumed animal hosts Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky would engage in all manner of harmless nonsense, and even strap on musical instruments to perform hippie-dippie rock numbers.

Bingo, Fleegle, Drooper and Snorky, the zany collective better known as The Banana Splits, are coming back with a vengeance — and with a body count?
As revivals go, this one may be as audacious as it is unexpected: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Syfy are bringing back the Banana Splits, the trippy-dippy characters introduced back in 1968 as the anthropomorphic hosts of The Banana Splits Adventure Hour variety program. This time around, however, the Banana Splits are being served up in a horror thriller.
The original movie will premiere this year from Blue Ribbon Content, Warner Bros Television Group’s digital studio, via a Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release that will be followed by the television debut on Syfy. The official synopsis: “In the upcoming horror thriller, a boy named Harley and his family attend a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which...

“Only just connect” are the words that would most aptly end “The Kindness of Strangers” if it were an E.M. Forster novel — even if that prospect is about as hard to swallow as, well, just about anything that happens in Lone Scherfig’s strange, sticky mélange of social realism, Dickensian sentiment and straight-up romantic fairy tale. Awkwardly twirling parboiled spaghetti strands of narrative around Zoe Kazan’s modern-day Little Match Girl — a pure-hearted mother of two escaping her abusive husband to live rough in Manhattan — this über-earnest Berlinale opener is given some commercial lift by classy ensemble casting and the malted directorial polish we’ve come to expect from the helmer behind “An Education” and “Their Finest.” But even Kazan’s stalwart commitment to the material can’t resolve the clash of grit and whimsy in Scherfig’s schizo moral fable.

New York can be an unforgiving city, even in the best of circumstances. Unfortunately for the awkward patchwork of characters who populate Lone Scherfig’s listless new melodrama, “The Kindness of Strangers” does not take place in the best of circumstances. Everyone in the film is lost and lonely in one way or another; everyone is either helpless or guilty; everyone is either about to hit bottom, or beginning to claw their way out of a hole that’s too deep to escape without some assistance. The young mother whose story provides the spine of this underdeveloped mosaic, is somehow all of those things at once.
