“We’ve all failed in our lives, but have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?” Minhaj mused yesterday at the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival.
“I saved a dying institution,” Minhaj added. “You’re welcome.”
For those not following along, after an extended on-air audition process, Comedy Central had reportedly chosen Minhaj to be Trevor Noah’s successor at The Daily Show last summer and planned to make the announcement at the conclusion of the Writers Strike.
Before that could happen, The New Yorker published a widely-shared article that accused Minhaj of embellishing his confessional-style standup material with exaggerations and falsehoods. Although Minhaj later responded with his side of the story and a fact-check of the New Yorker’s fact-check, by then Comedy Central had reportedly backed away from Minhaj amid the controversy.
The Daily Show never did lock down a permanent host.

Bridgerton‘s mere days away from returning for Season 3, and while fans eagerly await the glow-ups of Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), a.k.a. Polin, they should anticipate even more transformations in the latest chapter of Netflix‘s Shondaland hit. “It’s a bit terrifying coming back for Season 3 knowing that the story is your love story,” Coughlan shared in a Tudum video sneak peek shared by Shondaland.com. But costar Claudia Jessie, who plays Penelope’s best friend turned foe Eloise, is eager for people to see her pal’s onscreen transformation: “I’m excited for everybody to see Nicola Coughlan lead Season 3.” Liam Daniel/Netflix “Some of the characters this season have evolved into new looks, one being Penelope,” costume designer John Glaser revealed. According to showrunner Jess Brownell, “She is a butterfly emerging from her chrysalis this season.” But she isn’t the only one undergoing a transformation.

“Hacks” opened its first episode of its first season with a bravura tracking shot that followed its stand-up star Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) from door to casino floor to backstage to stage of the Palmetto Casino. The opening shot of Season 3 echoes that original — but with several twists.
The biggest one is the reveal that the figure we’ve been following from behind, wearing Deborah’s sequined jacket from the pilot episode, hair done up in the exact same way, is actually a lookalike. She’s one among many Deborah Vance-ettes, so to speak, at the launch of slot machines themed in the actual comedienne’s honor.
It’s a strong opening statement from the show’s co-creators Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs, one that tells us exactly the ride we’re going to be on in Season 3 of the Max series. “Hacks” isn’t just mining comedy bits.

Jimmy Kimmel could hardly contain himself Thursday night, opening his monologue by jumping right into the news that he was mentioned in the ongoing criminal trial of former President Donald Trump.
“I am very excited, I am very proud, I’m exhilarated even,” Kimmel told his audience. “Because from here on, we aren’t just following the Donald Trump drama in New York. We are part of it.”
Text messages entered into evidence by the prosecution yesterday showed a 2018 exchange between Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen and Keith Davidson, who represented Stormy Daniels in the hush money payment, discussing an interview with Daniels on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The interview in question took place on January 30, 2018, following the State of the Union. In it, Kimmel brought up a letter Daniels had allegedly signed denying she had an affair with Trump, pressing Daniels on whether the signature was authentic.

[Editor’s note: The following interviews contain spoilers for “Sugar,” Episode 6.]
When showrunner Mark Protosevich began writing Apple TV+ series “Sugar,” he knew two things: He would start with the story of a throwback anti-hero and then completely flip the perception.
“To pull off almost a genre switch,” Protosevich told IndieWire. “You’re introduced to this guy and story, and the rug gets pulled out from under you.”
Protosevich rips out the carpet at the end of episode 6 when it revealed that private investigator John Sugar (Colin Farrell), who loves dogs and old movies and metabolizes alcohol 50 times faster than anyone else…
…is an alien.
IndieWire talked to Farrell, executive producer/director Fernando Mierelles, editor Fernando Stutz, and Protosevich about the big twist.
The Twist Used to Be Much Earlier
Protosevich didn’t pitch the show to Apple. He wrote the first two episodes on spec, believing that studios and stars needed to read the story to understand his intent.

For Dan Draper, the CEO of data-protection company CipherStash, two-factor authentication is just a start. There’s also his password-manager tool, a handy hardware token, and even a hi-tech biometric keyboard keeping hackers at bay. As a matter of fact, pretty much the only way Draper feels susceptible to a data breach is through his streaming-video services.
Draper told IndieWire that “some properties” of streaming services can make them prime targets for hackers. You know that Netflix account that up until recently you shared with friends and relatives? It was a potential hack waiting to happen. (This is not in any way an indictment on Netflix’s security but merely a widely understandable example.)
“The idea of password-sharing does put things at a higher risk,” Draper said.
After all, passwords are not just “the only way that we protect our access,” they’re “a terrible security mechanism” to start with.

When I was 16, my brain started to feel impossible to live with. I knew it wasn’t just typical teenage angst and hormones I was dealing with, but something more — I was eventually diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, or Ocd. The anxiety disorder, which affects approximately 1.2% of adults in the US, is characterized by frequent unwanted, distressing thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts carried out in response (compulsions). No, it doesn’t stand for “obsessive Christmas disorder” like that Etsy shirt says.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are no strangers to unceremonious exits from ABC News, so they sympathize with recently ousted meteorologist Rob Marciano, who was fired over alleged “temper” issues. The couple spoke about their “friend and colleague” on the latest episode of their Amy & T.J. Podcast, where they mentioned how someone recently “reminded” the couple that “nobody leaves ABC News in a pretty fashion.” “It’s a tough situation,” Robach said, per People. “We have walked down that road and it’s not an easy one. And I think [Marciano] might still be going through a divorce. So we know what it’s like to have your entire life upended, career and personal life. And we both have known Rob for a long time.” Robach and Holmes were former co-anchors of the ABC daytime talk show GMA3 but were put on hiatus in December 2022 after news of their workplace relationship became public.

[Editor’s note: This interview contains spoilers for the final episode of Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones.”]
It’s always darkest before the dawn, and that was certainly the case for “We Were the Lucky Ones,” the Hulu miniseries based on the true story of the Kurc family, Jews from Poland who managed to all survive WWII.
The final episode (the show concluded May 2) begins with Halina Kurc (Joey King) imprisoned in Germany. Successfully hiding in plain sight for years, she is eventually captured, and regularly beaten up in jail. All hope seems lost.
“[They were] some of the most intense scenes in the whole show [for] my character,” King told IndieWire. “It’s tough, it’s violent. It’s tough to watch, but it’s also really important. And I think where we landed with it was very helpful in showcasing how brutal it was without being gratuitous. [Showrunner Erica Lipez,] she never wanted to be gratuitous [about] violence towards women. I really love that point of view.
