Have You Tried Shaking a Jar Full of Pennies?
The Donald Trump election fraud trial in New York takes Wednesdays off, but that only left late-night hosts time to play catchup with the widely reported fact that the GOP nominee for President can’t keep his eyes open for ten minutes at a time. As reports came out that Trump’s madly spinning legal team is being forced to come up with unique “devices” to keep their client conscious during his criminal trial, Kimmel called his nemesis “Naptain America” before mocking the apparent projection of Trump’s recent 4 a.m. social media post accusing President Biden of being the sleepy one.

And we’re off to the races. Jeopardy! Masters‘ second season premiered Wednesday night, and the studio was brimming with excitement… and a whole lotta personality. James Holzhauer, for example, declared himself the “main event” of the tournament without any hint of jest (even when he was trailing well behind his competitors in the game). And Victoria Groce clarified that she’s still the “queen” of The Chase — no past tense references allowed, even by Ken Jennings. Conversely, Amy Schneider was a bit more reserved as she grappled with being the one person in the competition who hadn’t technically earned their way into it. Let’s revisit all the major highlights from Games 1 and 2 of Jeopardy! We promise that this Better Call Saul list is all good, man.
First introduced late in Season 2 of Breaking Bad, Bob Odenkirk’s sleazy criminal lawyer extraordinaire, Saul Goodman, immediately became a scene-stealing fan favorite — and then grabbed the spotlight again in Better Call Saul when it premiered in 2015. Co-created by Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould (the writer-director of Saul’s first Bad appearance), Better Call Saul serves as both a prequel and sequel to its predecessor. The series covers the years before the man known as Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman, and, ultimately, Omaha Cinnabon manager Gene Takavic, the identity he takes on following the events of Breaking Bad.
Better Call Saul starts off as more of a courtroom and family drama, but the eventual emergence of Breaking Bad power players like Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) help raise the stakes...

It was Lady Gaga who once uttered the iconic phrase “Just dance/ Gonna be Ok.” There’s hardly ever been a movie about dance in which the stakes weren’t somehow incredibly high, but in the end, that’s almost always the lesson: Just dance, and it’ll be Ok.
These 16 films are filled with people dancing their troubles away — whether they’re trying to get into prestigious universities or hoping to retire from stripping with a bang. All of those stories and more can be found in the vast and varied array of dance movies available to watch right now. Some are documentaries about hard-working stars, some are tales of ballerinas learning hip-hop, but they all have one thing in common: They’re waiting for you to press play, no matter how many left feet you have.

Our collective zombie obsession began long before The Walking Dead premiered (although it certainly helped). In fact, it’s still going strong to this day, with creators bringing new life to stories of the undead. Zombies can serve as metaphors for our broken society or as catalysts for bringing humanity together. Sometimes they’re even kind of funny, in all their bloody, snarling glory. No matter what, zombie stories are always entertaining.
Here, we highlight some zombie TV shows and movies that are worth checking out. These are alternately bleak, hilarious and thrilling watches, meaning there’s a little something for every kind of zombie fan.

With Irish TV finally airing Conan O’Brien’s bit part on a long-running soap that he taped when he was visiting the country for his Max travel series back in January, the reviews are coming in and so far they’re… lukewarm.
O’Brien worked with a linguistics coach to prepare for his part in Ros na Rún, as the characters on the show speak the Irish language (also known as Gaeilge).
In the scene, O’Brien plays a delivery man dropping off balloons at the bar of the show’s lead character, Tadhg. When Tadhg refuses to pay for the delivery, a heated exchange ensues before O’Brien storms out—but Ros na Rún makes sure to cap off the scene with one final shot at O’Brien.

Many people love K-dramas for their ability to lift us out of the mundanity of everyday life. Plots usually involve extraordinary or fantastical circumstances: An ordinary girl falls for a sensitive and caring 939-year-old goblin, a high-powered CEO paraglides into the heart of a hunky North Korean officer, confusing romantic entanglements result from babies getting switched around in hospitals. The fact that these larger-than-life stories can transport us beyond the limits of our daily lives is perhaps why they’ve captured our hearts.
But real life can be equally as exciting. Sure, maybe chaebols aren’t falling out of the sky, but navigating work can be more fraught than a battlefield. People can be more frightening than fictional monsters. Falling in love and finding joy with friends and family can be just as thrilling as defeating a villain. And while the everyday, slice-of-life K-dramas might not feature elaborate plotlines, they...

Does your Apple TV+ membership come and go with new seasons of “Ted Lasso”? [Jeff Foxworthy Voice:] Then you might be a “Show-Chaser.”
Serial churners are so 2023 — 2024 is the year of the show-chaser, according to research firm Antenna. These folks currently may be out hunting baby reindeer. In its first four days of availability, “Baby Reindeer” was viewed 2.6 million times, according to Netflix. The following week, its first full one, the limited series from (and starring) Richard Gadd exploded to 13.3 million views — more than a five-fold increase. That tally nearly doubled the next week to 22 million views.
“Baby Reindeer” is a sensation fueled by word of mouth — and by word on TikTok — the type that could singlehandedly bring Netflix some new subscribers. But these hypothetical members are not very likely to stick around; they’re show-chasers, an (at least) semi-undesirable subset of serial churners.

Dan Schneider is taking his gripes with Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV to court. The former Nickelodeon show creator and producer is at the center of the story in Investigation Discovery’s headline-making docuseries, with accusations including incidents of sexism, racism, and toxicity on the sets of his shows by former adult colleagues and child actors. The series also presents horrifying details about one actor’s experience being assaulted by a later-convicted child abuser, and Schneider reportedly contends that the marketing materials conflate the two portions of the story, making him look like he was involved with the latter. In a lengthy statement provided to The Wrap, Schneider explained his decision to take action for defamation against producers of the docuseries — despite owning up to some of the behavioral issues alleged by the former child stars featured in the series — by saying, “Recently the docuseries Quiet...

Few genres of television capture the magic of teenage romance quite like K-dramas. Between sweet and innocent crushes, intense love triangles and the emotional drama that comes with balancing high school and a semblance of a social life, many K-dramas expertly mix relatability and nostalgia with the right amount of melodrama and fantasy. That’s probably why teen dramas like Love Alarm, Boys Over Flowers and Inheritors have become undeniable fan favorites over the years.
But lately, Korean storytellers have been crafting a wider variety of romantic dramas that diverge from the typical shows that K-drama aficionados are used to, with steamier rom-coms, unconventional love stories, and workplace and slice-of-life tales, as well as realistic portrayals of modern dating — especially later in life.
Here’s a curated list of popular romantic K-dramas that are specifically geared toward those in their 20s and beyond.

Just because the show or movie you’re watching doesn’t have Sir David Attenborough narrating a dancing bird’s mating ritual doesn’t mean it’s not a sustainability story. Plenty of Netflix’s biggest titles have something to say about protecting nature, climate change and other high-priority issues for Earth dwellers.
In honor of Show Your Stripes Day, a day to raise awareness of climate change, we’ve partnered with scientist Dr. Ed Hawkins to draw attention to the warming patterns affecting the locations featured in these shows and movies, using a graphic called the “Warming Stripes.” While these stripes might look like the Netflix intro, they actually depict temperature increases over the past 100-plus years in regions around the world.
The reddening stripes seen across all these locations make it clear that no part of the world is spared from the effects of climate change. Fortunately, there...

Former children’s television producer Dan Schneider is suing the producers of ID’s Quiet on the Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries, calling the show a “hit job” that implied he was a sexual abuser of children.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by TVLine, states: “While it is indisputable that two bona fide child sexual abusers worked on Nickelodeon shows, it is likewise indisputable that Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse, condemned the abuse once it was discovered and, critically, was not a child sexual abuser himself.

Finally, Disney+’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch has its priorities sorted.
The first two seasons’ cameo-heavy Mission of the Week format quickly grew stale, but as creator Dave Filoni, supervising director Brad Rau and head writer Jennifer Corbett disappeared deeper into their Disney-sponsored sandbox, it became clear that this wasn’t merely a graveyard of shameless walk-backs or desperate reinforcements of messy canon. The Bad Batch was always about underdogs, about displaced war heroes struggling to survive in a galaxy that has no need for them.

Julio Torres is crediting Ryan Gosling for being a “world-builder” of a comedic actor.
The “Problemista” writer/director/star told Entertainment Weekly that Gosling had more than a few sketch ideas when he returned to host “SNL.” Torres previously worked as a “Saturday Night Live” writer, and also returned with a skit per Gosling’s request to follow-up their viral “Papyrus” sequence parodying the font used in James Cameron’s “Avatar.” And much like the “Avatar” franchise itself, Gosling had a vision for making multiple installments of the “Papyrus” sketch.
“With no Ryan Gosling, there’s no ‘Papyrus 1,’ and there’s no ‘Papyrus 2,’” Torres said. “The first one was this sort of throwaway joke I made that he really latched on to. He was like, ‘Oh, I think maybe there’s an idea there,’ and I was like, ‘I really don’t think so.’ I didn’t tell him that,...

It’s a zoo out there. In 1990, the New York Yankees were a disaster; these were not the Derek Jeter years.
With a 67-95 record, 1990 was the first time in 24 years the Bronx Bombers finished in last place in the division, a whopping 21 games behind the rival the Boston Red Sox. It was the team’s worst record since 1912, two years before Babe Ruth even entered Major League Baseball (and eight years before he joined the Yankees). How bad were the 1990 Yankees? They threw a no-hitter and lost.
A new docuseries coming soon to Peacock, “Bronx Zoo ’90: Crime, Chaos, and Baseball,” gives the abysmal season a “The Last Dance” spin, covering both the drama on the field and off. Like what? Well, there was the time when Yankee owner George Steinbrenner paid a notorious gambler to dig up dirt on superstar player Dave Winfield. That gambler is interviewed in...

One of the many pleasures of Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules” is the backdrop it provides for its messy dramas between friends and lovers (and ex-friends and lovers). It’s one of the great L.A. shows, as the cast’s fondness for fine dining, drinking, and spa days generates an ongoing guided tour of Hollywood hot spots. But getting access to those locations and maintaining the show’s unobtrusive style isn’t easy, especially in the wake of last season’s “Scandoval” blow-up, which made everyone on the show exponentially more famous and created a paparazzi feeding frenzy.
“Our team collectively knew this was going to be a harder season, but I don’t think that we anticipated some of the on-the-ground challenges,” executive producer Alex Baskin told IndieWire’s Toolkit podcast. “Every time we were out in public there would be paparazzi, there would be people shooting the show on their phone.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a brutal and relentless viewing experience. Based on the true story of Lali Sokolov (Jonah Hauer-King), the six-episode Peacock series follows Lali after he is sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942. Like many, he doesn’t understand the true horror that awaits him. No one wants to or can believe that the rumors about places like Auschwitz are true.
A fellow prisoner takes an interest in him and Lali is given the opportunity to become the concentration camp’s tattooist, the person who inks the number on each incoming prisoner. At first he balks at the idea. It is a horrible job but it is also a way to survive. “I was 26 and I wanted to live,” he says. “They offered me a way and I took it.”...

There’s never a bad time to throw on a good ol’ fashioned American movie. That said, it’s hard to argue that summer isn’t the peak time to lean into that patriotic spirit. The hotdogs have been pulled off the grill. The kids are drying off from the pool, and that spot on the couch in front of the television has never looked more appealing. Is there a better feeling than watching the opening credits while the air conditioner works to combat that heat you just brought indoors?
But choosing a good patriotic movie isn’t so simple, because patriotism can mean different things to different people. Perhaps you want to turn your brain off and venture to the moon, like Armstrong and Aldrin once did. Maybe that American spirit comes in the form of a film that honors those who’ve served the country in combat. Patriotism...

Hollywood genres tend to wax and wane, but not mysteries. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Thin Man and The Maltese Falcon introduced early moviegoing audiences to the thrills of a riddle, popularizing a model that could be tweaked for horror, comedy, noirish drama and beyond. Today, mysteries are as popular as ever.
We all love to play armchair detective, and trying to deduce the outcome before it arrives is what keeps the genre fresh. So whether you want an all-star laugh riot or a brooding psychodrama, here are 12 worthwhile mystery movies that’ll put your puzzle-solving skills to good use.
