Famous in the early 20th Century as the composer of a number of light Italian operettas, dances and popular Italian songs (and later the former Somalian national anthem), Giovanni Blanc studied with Bolzoni in Turin and became best known for his composition "Giovinezza" ("Youth", with lyrics by Salvatore Gotta, which was adopted as the martial anthem of fascist Italy.
