Although Irish character actor Ray McAnally would become one of his country's most revered stage actors, he will be forever remembered by audiences both here and abroad for a couple of films he made during the last years of his life.
Born on March 30, 1926, in the seaside town of Buncrana and the son of a bank manager, he was educated at St. Eunan's College and entered a seminary at the age of 18. Lucky for us stage and filmgoers, the priesthood proved not to be his calling, and he departed after only a brief time.
Ray joined the Abbey Theatre in 1947 where he met and married actress Ronnie Masterson. The parents of four children, they would later form Old Quay Productions and present an assortment of classic plays in the 60s and 70s. He made a triumphant London theatre debut in 1962 with "A Nice Bunch of Cheap Flowers" and gave a towering performance as George in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" opposite legendary British actress Constance Cummings at the Piccadilly Theatre. He routinely acted in the Abbey and Irish festivals, but then, in the last decade of life, achieved award-winning notice on TV and films.
Ray entered films with a prime role in the obscure Irish romantic comedy Professor Tim (1957) and continued for a short time with featured roles in the British She Didn't Say No (1958), Desert Patrol (1958), The Naked Edge (1961), Billy Budd (1962) and He Who Rides a Tiger (1965). Moving into TV, he was handed two crime series -- as a gangland boss in the Spindoe (1968) and an inspector in The Burke Enigma (1978). He also impressed in the mini-series Pollyanna (1973), A Perfect Spy (1987), A Very British Coup (1988), Jack the Ripper (1988), and Great Expectations (1989) (as Mr. Jaggers).
Seen from time to time in such films as Quest for Love (1971), Fear Is the Key (1972), The Outsider (1979) and Angel (1982), it was Ray's later impressive performances that started collecting awards. As Cardinal Altamirano in the movie The Mission (1986), he earned both Evening Standard and BAFTA awards and his role in the BBC production of A Perfect Spy (1987) earned another BAFTA award (for TV). In the last year of his life, he was absolutely awe-inspiring as Daniel Day-Lewis's father in the Academy Award-winning film My Left Foot (1989), the story of cerebral palsy victim Christy Brown, who overcame his severe disability to become a flourishing artist and writer.
Just as he was receiving international film attention, the 63-year-old McAnally died suddenly of a heart attack in Ireland on June 15, 1989. He received a third BAFTA award (posthumously) for the last movie mentioned in 1990. A fitting end to a versatile, galvanizing talent.- Actor

Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin, the fourth youngest of nine children, comes from the small village of Dore (Dobhar in Irish) in the Gweedore (Gaoth Dobhair) region of County Donegal in northwestern Ireland. She now lives in Killiney, a coastal district on the southern outskirts of Dublin The family is very musical and her parents played in a family dance band before settling down. Her father owns a local pub - Leo's Tavern in Meenaleck - and her mother Baba taught music in the local school. In 1968, elder brothers Ciarán & Pol, and uncles Pádraig & Noel Ó Dúgáin, formed the band "An Clan As Dobhar" to perform traditional Irish music at festivals etc. Changing their name to Clannad, and recruiting sister Maire Brennan in 1973, the band have gone on to international success performing both their own and traditional material. They have recorded a number of albums. Enya joined Clannad in 1980 and, credited under her real name, provided keyboards and (mostly) backing vocals. She appears on their 1982 album "Fuaim".
In 1982, Clannad split with their long-time manager and producer Nicky Ryan. Eithne, apparently frustrated with being left in the background, left at the same time and, in Ryan's belief that she had talent in her own right, moved to live with him and his wife Roma Ryan and develop her own musical career. In 1985, film producer David Puttnam commissioned her to write music for his film The Frog Prince (1986) which was released in 1985. The titles on The Frog Prince (1986) credit music to Enya Ní Bhraonáin and the transition of Eithne to Enya (the phonetic pronunciation of Eithne) had begun.
In 1986, BBC-TV began work on a six part documentary series charting the history and continuing cultural influence of the Celts. Enya was signed to write and perform music for the series. The Celts (1987) was first shown in 1987 and a selection of its music released under the title "Enya", giving the artist her first album, largely unnoticed at the time. Her 'big break' began in 1987 when she was signed by Rob Dickins, head of WEA Music UK, after he had heard and been entranced by the "Enya" album. WEA's backing made the recording of "Watermark" possible and the album was released in 1988. Although no singles were originally planned, it was the release "Orinoco Flow" ("Sail Away") that brought Enya to public attention and resulted in an unexpected chart #1 in several countries. She continued the success with her next albums, "Shepherd Moons" and "The Celts".- Maureen was born in Bundorran, County Donegal, while her Dad was doing summer season at a local theatre. She was brought up in Glasgow. She is the eldest of four children; 2 brothers Mark and Paul, plus sister Louise. Her father, Johnny is a well known Scottish entertainer, while her late mother, Kitty was a model. She trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where she won the James Bridie medal in her final year. Her hobbies are reading, writing, cooking, cake decorating, flamenco dancing and going to the gym. She currently lives in South London.

Daniel Francis Noel O'Donnell, MBE (born 12 December 1961) is an Irish singer, television presenter and philanthropist. After rising to public attention in 1983, he has since become a household name in Ireland and Britain; he has also had considerable success in Australia. In 2012, he became the first artist to have a different album in the British charts every year for 25 consecutive years. This record has been extended and as of 2021, O'Donnell has had an album in the Official Albums Chart each year for the last 33 years. Known for his close relationship with his fanbase, and his charismatic and engaging stage presence, O'Donnell's music has been described as a mix of country and Irish folk, and he has sold over ten million records to date. He is widely considered a "cultural icon" in Ireland, and is often parodied in the media. Affectionately known as "Wee Daniel", O'Donnell is a prominent ambassador for his home county of Donegal. O'Donnell was married, aged 40, on 4 November 2002, to 41-year-old divorcée Majella McLennan from Thurles, whom he met on holiday in Tenerife three years previously. McLennan received an annulment of her previous marriage, by which she had two children (Siobhan and Michael). The couple live in Meenbanad, County Donegal, and spend time at their second home in Tenerife. O'Donnell's home in Meenbanad, County Donegal O'Donnell also has two step-grandchildren - a step-granddaughter, Olivia, and a step-grandson, Archie, who are his wife's grandchildren. Daniel is proficient in Irish and presented a show in that language for the broadcaster.- Jean Bell was born in Lifford, county Donegal on the 8th February 1942.
In 1962, he met Gerry Corr at a dance in the Pavilion ballroom in Blackrock, Dundalk (county Louth, Leinster, Ireland). He immortalized the meeting in verse, which he entitled 'Pavilion 62':
'Did angels convene/
To bring me to Jean/
Of wraparound eyes/
In passion of pink/
First dance/
Last dance/
We dance for ever.'
He said in an interview in 2002: "From the first time I met her, I loved her speaking voice. Later, when I heard her sing, my future was sealed! Happily, she liked me too." She sang "... an Irish song called Mo Shean Dun na Gall which she had learned at school in her native Donegal. Jean's is the voice of the Corrs".
Jean and Gerry were married on October 3, 1963 in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dundalk. They had 5 children: Jim Corr, Gerard Corr, Sharon Corr, Caroline Corr and Andrea Corr. Little Gerard died as a child due to a traffic accident.
Music was always to the fore throughout their life. She, together with his dear husband founded 'The Sound Affair' in the 1970's and they were to play together in a variety of venues throughout Co Louth for many years. Not surprisingly, this love of music filtered down to their children with the inevitable consequence - The Corrs.
Sadly, Jean died in the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on 24 November 1999 from a rare lung condition, Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. - Actor

Singer Daniel Anthony Hutton was born on September 10, 1942 in Buncrana, County Donegal, Ireland. He moved to America when he was a little boy. Hutton worked at the warehouse for Disney/Buena Vista Records in California. Danny did voice-overs for various cartoons and recorded several singles for both the MGM and Hanna Barbera Records labels in the mid 60s. He also auditioned to be a member of the Monkees, but didn't make the cut. Hutton's charming song "Roses and Rainbows" was a substantial local radio hit in Southern California. In 1968 Danny became a founding member of the enormously popular 70s rock group Three Dog Night; he remained with the band until they broke up in 1977. Moreover, Hutton sang vocals with the power trio BBA on their self-titled 1973 debut album. Following the break up of Three Dog Night Danny worked as a manager for such Los Angeles punk bands as Fear and fronted the group the Danny Hutton Hitters (their cover of the Nit Kershaw song "Wouldn't It Be Good" was featured on the soundtrack to the hit comedy "Pretty in Pink"). In the mid 80s Hutton rejoined Three Dog Night and continues to be a member of the band to this very day.- Actor

Conor Maguire has been surfing since he was 11, but his fearless exploits over the past few years have earned him a reputation as a leading big wave rider.
Conor Maguire was nominated for six World Surf League Big Wave Awards since 2015 and recognised by the Big Wave World Tour with three nominations in three different categories at the surfing body's 2016 awards.
In 2017, Conor received the prestigious honour of XXL nominations and finished in the top five in the Tube of the Year category at the Big Wave Awards. All those accolades made him the youngest European to be shortlisted for the World Surf League Big Wave Awards.

Arguably his biggest achievement to date happened in 2020, when Conor surfed what may be Ireland's largest ever swell at Mullaghmore in County Sligo. A combination of freakish Atlantic currents and travel restrictions ensured Conor was able to enjoy a private audience with Mother Nature that he won't forget in a hurry.
"It was just this huge, scary black blob that we saw in the Atlantic a few weeks before it hit. The storm looked as though it was about to swallow the whole continent. It was hard to believe it would do what the data was predicting, but the night before the swell started to build, a weather buoy off the coast of Ireland revealed record-breaking figures and we knew we had a shot."- Jim McGuinness was born in County Donegal, Ireland.

Born on February 18th 1917 in West Donegal his parents Connell and Maria Byrne were farmers but they also had a talent for singing and story-telling, which Packie inherited. Leaving school at fourteen he worked on the farm before moving to England where, over a period of twenty years, he took several employments, in the building trade, on the railway and as a circus hand. Whilst recovering from tuberculosis in the 1950s he had time to revive his interest in traditional music and began singing at music festivals. In 1964 he turned professional, touring folk clubs and making records, latterly with American harpist Bonnie Shaljean. In 1987 he retired and went back to live in Donegal, publishing an autobiography 'Recollections of a Donegal Man' with two further books following. As he grew older and his health deteriorated he still continued to sing for friends but his appearances decreased and on May 12 2015 he died at home, two years short of his centenary.
