It was one of the few successes that ET1, the state TV channel, had in the last few years. - Mustafa was born in 1881 in Salonica, then an Ottoman Turkish city, in modern day Greece. His father, Ali Riza, a customs official-turned-lumber merchant, died when Mustafa was still a boy. His mother, Zubeyde, a devout and strong-willed woman, raised him and his younger sister by herself. First enrolled in a traditional Islamic religious school, he soon switched to a modern school. In 1893, he entered a military high school where his mathematics teacher gave him the second name Kemal (meaning perfection in Turkish) in recognition of young Mustafa's superior achievement. He was thereafter known as Mustafa Kemal.
In 1905, Mustafa Kemal graduated from the War Academy in Istanbul with the rank of Staff Captain. Posted in Damascus, Syria, then a part of the Ottoman Empire, he started with several colleagues a clandestine society called "Homeland and Freedom" to fight against the Sultan's despotism. In 1908, he helped the group of officers who toppled the Sultan. Mustafa Kemal's career flourished as he won his heroism in the far corners of the Ottoman Empire during the Italo-Turkish War of 1911-12 as well as the Balakan Wars of 1913 in which he saw action in Albania and Tripoli, Libya. He also briefly served as a staff officer in Salonica and Istanbul and as a military attache in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In October, 1914, the Ottoman Empire offically entered World War I alongside Germany and Austria as part of the Central Powers fighting the Allies of Great Britian, France, Italy and Russia. In 1915, when the Dardanelles/Galipoli campaign was launched, Mustafa Kemal, recently premoted to Colonel, became a national hero by winning successive victories against the landing British French and ANZAC armies, pinning them down at their beacheads, which finally forced the invaders to evacuate Galipoli in January 1916. Promoted to General later that year, at age 35, he liberated two major provinces in eastern Turkey against the Russian armies. In the next two years, from 1917 to 1918, he served as commander of several Ottoman armies in Palestine, Aleppo, and elsewhere, achieving another major victory by stopping the British advance at Aleppo just before the war-weary Turkish armies agreed to an armistice with the British on October 31, 1918 which ended World War I in the Middle East. As a result of the Ottoman Empire's defeat, the Turks lost all of their Middle East territories with the exception of the traditional Turkish area around the region of Asia Minor.
On May 19, 1919, Mustafa Kemal Pasha landed in the Black Sea port of Samsun to start the Greco-Turkish War, (known to the Turks as the War of Independence.) In defiance of the Sultan's government, he rallied a liberation army in Anatolia and convened the Congress of Erzurum and Sivas which established the basis for the new national effort under his leadership. On April 23, 1920, the Grand National Assembly was inaugurated. Mustafa Kemal Pasha was elected as its President. Fighting on many fronts, he led his forces to victory against rebels and the invading Greek armies. Following the Turkish triumph at the two major battles at Izunu in Western Turkey, the Grand National Assembly conferred on Mustafa Kemal Pasha the title of Commander-in-Chief with the rank of Marshal. At the end of August 1922, the Turkish armies won their ultimate victory. Within a few weeks, the Turkish mainland was completely liberated, an armistice with Greece was signed, and the rule of the Ottoman dynasty was abolished.
In July 1923, the national government signed the Lausanne Treaty with Great Britain, France, Greece, Italy, and others countries which regonized the new country of Turkey. In mid-October, Ankara became the capital of the new Turkish State. On October 29, the Republic was proclaimed and Mustafa Kemal Pasha was unanimously elected President of the Republic. Kemal married Latife Usakligil in early 1923. The marriage ended in divorce in 1925.
The account of Kemal Atatürk's fifteen year Presidency (1923-1938) is a saga of dramatic modernization. With indefatigable determination, he created a new political and legal system based on a Swiss Civil Code, abolished the Islamic Caliphate and made both government and education secular, gave equal rights to women, changed the Turkish language by transfering the written language from the Arabic script to the Roman alphabet, and the attire from Islamic to Western, and advanced the arts and the sciences, agriculture and industry.
In 1934, when the surname law was adopted, the national parliament gave him the name "Atatürk" (Turkish for Father of the Turks). A heavy drinker most of his life, Atatürk developed liver and kidney problems durng the last year of his life. He died on November 10, 1938, at age 57. The "national liberator" and the "Father of modern Turkey" was dead. But his legacy to his people and to the world endures to this very day. - Renia Louizidou was born on 22 October 1966 in Thessaloniki, Greece. She is an actress, known for A Touch of Spice (2003), Oi aparadektoi (1991) and Esy ftais (2000).
- Zoe Laskari was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 1959 she won the title of "Miss Greece" and two years later she played the female lead in Giannis Dalianidis's youth melodrama _Katiforos, O (1961)_. The success of that film made Laskari a star; she signed an exclusive contract with Finos Film, the most powerful Greek studio of the period, and appeared in many films, musicals, comedies and melodramas (most of them were directed by the prolific Dalianidis, who became her mentor). She made her stage debut in the late 1960s, but really concentrated on theater after the decline of the Greek commercial cinema in the mid-1970s; her stage work includes Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" (as Martha), Euripides' "The Trojan Women" (as Eleni), Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" etc.

(1998) and Erotas sti hourmadia (1990).- Onoufrios Dovlétis, with a 5,000-year-old name originating from Egypt, was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, a descendant of refugees who survived the Greek Genocide carried out by the Ottoman Empire in WWI.
From his early years, he was continuously cast in school plays and was encouraged to pursue acting. As a child, he discovered his love for writing and was determined to follow his passion for the written word. As an adult, Onoufrios is a published poet with two award-winning collections.
The teenage years, beset by problems, presented the dilemma of choosing between psychology and archaeology for his studies. Opting out of the latter, he also put acting on hold and worked as a translator until returning to the stage with an acting school in 2014.
An avid history buff and a licensed tour guide in Athens. He also hosts two history podcasts in Greek and English ('Not another Greek history podcast').
Onoufrios loves challenges, so he allowed himself a whole three weeks to land an agent in LA, which... he did. Not having a proper visa to remain in Los Angeles proved to limit his reach, though.
Undeterred, he pushed to improve his professional training, attending acting schools in New York (Meisner Technique in The Acting Studio), London (City Lit) and Athens (Petras Acting School).
Onoufrios starred in short films in the UK and Greece, such as Nightgrind, or in the high-profile period drama series Kokkino Potami, where directors just loved to see him kill, rape, and shout at people (pretty much as a villain) whereas on stage he has played from Romeo to God.
In New York, he played in the off-Broadway comedy 'A Sketch of New York' and in several plays in Athens such as comedies, ancient tragedies, and contemporary drama such as Harold Pinter's 'Betrayal'. He's also been a member of an improv Playback group.
Trying out new things and experiencing what life has to offer, is Onoufrios' thing, so you can find him playing his bouzouki or enjoying activities like ballet, martial arts, and parkour. His extraordinary love for music has him creating and sharing playlists on Spotify.
Onoufrios is fluent in English (American accent), Spanish, and Italian, with a good level of German, and a basic knowledge of Arabic, French, Russian, and Turkish. - Director

An actress and singer born on the day of French Independence (Bastille Day), Silvana works on dramatic projects with depth & interesting or strong characters. Her preferred material are well-written comedies, or dramas about strong women who went against the odds and made a difference. On the flip side, Silvana also is very good with light comedy, having excellent timing for it!
Classically and Meisner-trained in New York City and Los Angeles, she has studied with the legendary Robert Easton, as well as Michelle Danner, Larry Moss, Uta Hagen's H.B. Studios, and spent summers studying Shakespeare and theatre at London Academy of Music and Drama, Shakespeare & Company, the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, William Esper's Levin Theatre, and the Peterborough Players in New Hampshire. Silvana also has a B.A. with Honors in Theatre Arts, from Rutgers University.
With a lot of experience also in both film & modern stage roles, she has a very wide range of modern characters she can play, from a young FBI agent, to the warm & old-fashioned Izzy in 'Crossing Delancey', to the New Age singer Stardust, to Jenny in Neil Simon's 'Chapter 2' and Rosalind in 'As You Like It'... and everything in between.
Silvana spent her early childhood in Manaus, a city on the river of the Amazon of Brazil. In South America at the time, soap operas were the rage, and even little kids would stay up to watch them! But Silvana fell in love with acting even before that, when she would go with her grandmother Sylvia to see children's traveling productions at the turn-of-the-century built Opera House, and she decided to become an actress after seeing the movie Ben-Hur at the local cinema.
And when she saw an article in the newspaper about a casting call for her favorite tv show, Sitio do Picapau Amarelo (The Farm of the Yellow Woodpecker), Silvana knew she was going to be an actress. (she didn't make it to that audition as it was very far away, in Rio de Janeiro but the acting bug definately bit. Soon Grandma Sylvia was taking her to acting and dancing rehearsals in various productions around Manaus.
She has appeared in a wide range of stage roles (classic & modern) in New York and L.A. as well as indie film projects.- Ersi Malikenzou was born in 1940 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
