Preparations are made and safety precautions are taken but ultimately Thamesford CID must accept the fact that there is no such thing as fool-proof security.

- PC's Dodds, Perry and W.P.C Arthur are embedded, at safe house, with supergrass Charlie Grant, who has given information on 17 robberies. Charlie's wife and son make their feelings, on grassing, known and Charlie makes a break for it.
- Det. Chief Supt. Charles Barlow takes an interest into a local business that appears to be stealing bricks on an industrial scale from a new housing development.
- Tommy Lee has just been released from prison, and suddenly a series of safe-breaking cases are reported in the Thamesford vicinity. Task Force officers are hot on Tommy Lee's trail. But then a security guard is shot and seriously wounded, and all of a sudden a safe-breaking could turn to murder. While Inspector Hawkins is working hard to get a lead on Tommy Lee's whereabouts, the safe-breaker is desperately trying to escape the net that Thamesford Task Force is tightening around him.
- A young boy discovers a dead body in a car that has driven off the road. The man is chemist Maurice Sims who has been poisoned. Sims is part of a group of middle class swingers and has an eye for a number of ladies. Who killed him?
- Jack and Jenny Price home is burgled and £10,000 stolen. Businessman Price realises that only one other person would know where the money is hidden, in his home, and baits a trap. He shoots the intruder who flees but later dies.
- A gang of bank robbers are using information on the timing of collections from local banks. Task Force track them down, and a siege ensues. They demand a car, but they are thwarted in their attempts to get away by a procedural quirk.
- Chief Constable Cullen gets a taste of the action when he witnesses a police officer getting severely beaten. Coming to the young constable's aide, Cullen soon faces a dilemma as one of the culprits makes allegations against the Chief Constable. Eventually, CC Cullen has to appear in court and gladly accepts Inspector Armstrong's help after one of the defendants dies in consequence of Cullen's action to safe a young bobby.
- A jeweller's shop is robbed and a shot is fired at a bystander. Two suspects are arrested who both deny all charges. Gradually the police breaks down the suspects' resistance and one of them makes a full confession, implicating the other.

- Former armed robber Red Raynor is released from prison, after ten years, is terrified out of skin when he receives a scythe delivered to his door. PC Snow discovers a deaf mute in the woods who believes he killed a policeman.
- Slim Slaver and the Slavers are playing a gig at Elverton village hall. The audience is mostly made up of teenage girls who will do anything to see him. During the gig, Slim Slaver is electrocuted and dies in suspicious circumstances.
- Sergeants Evans and Jackson get a special assignment: Playing chaperones for a Times reporter whom Chief Constable Cullen suspects of being after a scandal and planning to use Thamesford Constabulary as scapegoat. - A tip off about serial criminal Billy Mason puts PC Snow undercover at a casino. Snow makes contact with him about a possible deal only for Mason to be murdered.
- A post office van is raided by six men who steal £50,000. Only hired muscled Danny Darby is arrested after using a gun. Darby eventually gives up the name of escaped villain Johnny Warren but he has not been seen for two years.
- Watt receives a tip off about a big domestic robbery. Will his scant information be enough, and can Evans and Snow find the right house in time? It's a New Year that one family will never forget.
- A series of petty thefts and burglaries leads to an undercover operation. On undercover assignment in a deprived area of Thamesford, WP/DC Betty Donald, disguised as a common housewife, comes across a pair of children who are being neglected and abused by their parents. Will the CID team be able to solve the burglary case and save little Molly and her brother from receiving yet another severe beating?
- Following a fire, Julie, widow of former fence Alfie Brent says she is being forced out her business. The people who really own it are only going to make her a deal but on their terms. Julie attempts to play them off against the police.
- A high quality16mm film labeled 'Filth' is found at Grange Crossroads. Snow and Lincoln investigations leads to a man called Jennings of Wyvern House. DCS Watt needs to make a conspiracy charge for using an under age girl.
- John Watt's old pal Bill Brown runs security at the Bull Hotel and wants him to help with a number of walk in thefts. Watt spots phony - Lord Hocking but he offers them Pierre Mandel, a man with a suitcase and shoulder holster.
- Barlow and Watt investigate an armed gang who have stolen a lorry containing Scotch Whiskey worth twenty grand. Barlow plays the suspects off against each other to see who will crack first.
- Two major operations are aborted due a red alert call. Special Branch inform Task Force of a possible kidnapping of a young Saudi boy. Branch man DCI Goldthorpe is shot dead, at the airport, before the situation can be safely resolved.
- When Sergeant Jackson spots ex-convict Ingram, the task force suspect the recently released former prisoner is trying to located a loot of stolen bullion which had been hidden at an unknown location just before Ingram and his soon-to-be-released partner in crime Thompson were arrested. There's a lot of hard, dirty and arduous work to be done, but it's not the task force members who sweat over it.
- Veteran safe breaker Jack Rogers has teamed up with Simmonds, who is unknown to the police, to pull a series robberies around the country and all with perfect alibi.
- It's Christmas time, and Chief Constable Cullen has a special gift for Chief Superintendent Charlie Barlow who finds himself representing Thamesford CID at Her Majesty's prison in Kingsley. Barlow feels highly uncomfortable with this task, and his discomfort gets worse when the visit at Kingsley prison leads to a pub raid and a case of child abuse. Against better judgment Charlie Barlow decides to do what he can to save the baby. After all, it is Christmas.
- Hawkins and Snow are to due give evidence in Herbert Andrews robbery trial. Much of the case resolves around forensic evidence so Andrews counsel is out to discredit the pair.
- Task Force aid a drug bust at a house containing mainly black tenants causing a lot of bad publicity from Fordyce, a black activist lawyer. In a bid to counter claims against police, John Watt is told thoroughly investigate.
- While investigating the case of a missing Swedish au pair, WP/DC Betty Donald comes across some information about local criminal Christopher Connor who seems to be plotting a crime. As it turns out, Connor and three accomplices plan to rob a jeweler's store. But Superintendent Watt doesn't trust Betty Donald's informer and smells a rat.
- Watt and Hawkins head to Deauville, France to track down Clive Hornsby-Hyatt, a middle man who has orchestrated a string of antique robberies on country houses
- Chief Constable Cullen receives a threatening letter about prisoner David Bridie being persecuted again. Evans and Knowles are currently taking Bridie, via train, to London and need to get him to give up the letter writer.
- Her Majesty's Inspector Sharp's visit to Thamesford coincides with a newspaper article written by Kingsley's MP claiming the police have a vendetta against Salmader family under orders from Det. Chief Supt. Watt .
- Det. Chief Supt. John Watt is tipped off that the council are working a land scam with a local developer. Evans and Snow look into an epidemic of wireless robberies.
- Dynamite stolen from a quarry and it is now in the hands of an explosive expert who is using it as part of a gang robbing armed cars. Barlow must work out their next target.
- D.C.I. Hawkins leads the inquiry into an attack, in a local night club, on PC Raven. This is the third policeman attacked in two weeks and his wife demands answers. PC Snow plays the diplomat when escorts a Commonwealth detective.
- While investigating a series of thefts Sergeant Evans steps on the toes of a shady landlord who allegedly employs some enforcers to collect rent due from his tenants. Evans gets into trouble with his superiors when he decides to take matters in his own capable hands and pays the landlord a visit for a friendly chat and a warning. Meanwhile, Superintendent John Watt has his own problems to deal with, having been assigned to substitute for Chief Constable Cullen as guest speaker at the Kingsley Rotary Club.
- A female cub reporter crosses swords with Barlow, as he investigates a child murder. Barlow has a hunch about the murderer, but whether he can get a conviction rests upon breaking into the secrets of a sad and lonely family.
- John Watt has the plans for a robbery organised by Jim Ryland but doesn't know the location. He brings in Ryland associate Billy Cooper for questioning and he admits the job is worth a million pound but won't tell them where.
