Russia’s National Film Foundation Gosfilmofond is planning an alternative international film festival to be staged in Nice during next year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Speaking to Russian daily newspaper Izvestiya, Gosfilmofond’s general director Nikolay Borodachev said that the new event - tentatively called Alternativa – would show films that had been turned down by the programmers from Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
A particular focus would be placed on films by directors from the Brics countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), he said.
“It will be an international festival with an international jury, and present awards. We will invite leading film critics. We have all of the possibilities to do this,” he said, pointing out that this festival would attract journalists attending the nearby Cannes festival as well as cinema-goers from Nice.

YouTube introduced its skippable video ad format, TrueView, five years ago on April 8, 2010. In celebration of this milestone, Google’s online video site has compiled a variety of data points surrounding TrueView ads, including the fact that the number of advertisers using this format grew 45% in 2014.
In a company blog post, YouTube noted that brands who have gotten more creative with their video ads over the years have seen some impressive results on the online video platform. YouTube cites a Pixability stat which found that the top 100 brands are earning 42% more views on average per month on Google’s online video site. Additionally, YouTube found all of these brands ran TrueView ads in 2014.
Google’s online video site also put together a list of the top five trending video ads from when TrueView launched in 2010. Old Spice landed on the list twice, with the #2 spot for the classic “The Man...

Out of all the cool videos produced by the Red Bull Media House, the ones starring trials biker Danny MacAskill are among the coolest. The 28-year-old has returned with his latest stunt video, which takes him to the abandoned Argentine village ofEpecuén. As an elderly narrator explains in the intro to the new video, Epecuén was abandoned in 1985 when a storm flooded the village. Years later, the waters receded, revealing the remains of drowned houses, shops, and streets. Once MacAskill arrives, Epecuén becomes his plaything, as he pulls of an array of jumps, flips, and wheelies across the village. MacAskill's videos consistently rank among the most popular offerings from Red Bull Media House. After his video "April 2009" went viral to the tune of 34 million views, he teamed with Red Bull in November 2010 with "Way Back Home", a stunt-filled journey to his hometown in rural Scotland. He followed that up in...

The man behind Red Bull's second most popular video has scored another hit. Danny MacAskill, the Scottish bike trials rider behind the jaw-dropping 'Way Back Home' video, has released his latest riding video, and it's just as awe-inspiring as his most famous effort. The video is titled 'Imaginate', and it serves as the culmination of the series of the same name, which MacAskill and Red Bull debuted earlier this year. While early episodes of Imaginate explored MacAskill's life and the constant injuries he faces in his extreme profession, later episodes are dedicated to the construction of a huge course to serve as MacAskill's personal playground. In the completed riding video, we see the final fruits of MacAskill's labor, and they are, to use a scientific term, totally awesome. 'Imaginate' is incredibly creative, but the best part about it is how different it is from 'Way Back Home',...

If you haven't yet seen Danny MacAskill's 'Way Back Home', drop whatever you're doing and watch it right. The stunt biking video, which has racked up more than 26 million YouTube views , is the second most popular offering on the Red Bull channel, and for good reason; the mindblowing extreme sports video, which features MacAskill pedaling, hopping, and pivoting his way across Scotland is (and I say this without a hint of hyperbole) one of the coolest things on the Internet. I mention 'Way Back Home' to preface Red Bull's newest series, Imaginate, which goes behind-the-scenes of MacAskill's life, revealing that street trials aren't the only trials he has to face. The first episode of the six-part documentary discusses the Scot's chronic back and leg injuries, the former of which eventually becomes so intrusive that he must undergo surgery. MacAskill's profession is incredibly unique, and his...

Red Bull have always been innovators in the online space; the energy drink giant brands itself well around extreme sports, amassing over 365 million video views on its channel, a YouTube Original. Red Bull has shared some amazing videos with us in the past, including the jaw-dropping Danny MacAskill 'Way Back Home' stunt reel and the death-defying Travis Pastrana rally car jump. Today, the channel generated a never before seen level of exposure by offering up a live stream of the certifiably insane Red Bull Stratos event, where extreme skydiver Felix Baumgartner jumped out of a capsule 128,000 feet above the ground and landed safely less than five minutes later. The event was live streamed on Red Bull's channel and drew over eight million viewers at one point right before the dive began. This prolific amount of exposure shattered the record for the most traffic to one live stream, previously held by NBC's 2012 Olympics coverage.

The television academy announced Wednesday that the venerable soap opera will compete with NBC’s Days of Our Lives, CBS’ The Young and the Restless and the canceled All My Children of ABC for best daytime drama. Miriam Hopkins, Bette Davis, The Old Maid Bette Davis, Warner Bros.' top female box-office attraction from the mid-'30s to the late '40s, is Turner Classic Movies' "Summer Under the Stars" performer-of-the-day this Wednesday, August 3. TCM will be presenting 12 Bette Davis movies, in addition to the 2005 documentary Stardust: The Bette Davis Story. [Bette Davis Movie Schedule.] Unfortunately, none of TCM's Bette Davis movies is a local premiere. So, don't expect anything rare like The Bad Sister, Seed, The Menace, or Way Back Home. Or, for that matter, Connecting Rooms, Bunny O'Hare, The Scientific Cardplayer, or Wicked Stepmother. (Luigi Comencini's The Scientific Cardplayer, co-starring Alberto Sordi, Joseph Cotten, and Silvana Mangano, is an interesting film; hopefully TCM will get a hold of it one of these days.) Anyhow, at least there's the little-known The Working Man (1933), a perfectly enjoyable Depression Era comedy-drama starring a surprisingly effective George Arliss as a big businessman who,...

Last week, Private Practice focused on the immediate fallout from the brutal sexual assault on one of its main characters in "Did You Hear What Happened to Charlotte King?"
Last night, in the fittingly titled "What Happens Next," Charlotte tried to pick up the pieces and return to her normal life, only to find out, predictably, that it's not that simple.
Looking ahead to next Thursday, the recovery process is only going to get harder. In the promo below, she's faced with the decision of whether to confront and ID her attacker ...
Cant Find My Way Back Home Promo
What do you think she'll do? Can she conquer her fear and go through with it even if it means looking that lowlife in the eye? No matter what, it should be very emotional.
Meanwhile, it looks like Pete must face a couple of demons from his own past ... his brother and mother.

Chicago – This critic is not ashamed to admit when a teen-driven phenomenon works, having given positive reviews to most of Zac Efron’s filmography, but Disney’s “Hannah Montana: The Movie” is too absolutely for hardcore fans only. Everyone old enough to pay for the Blu-Ray themselves are likely to be turned off.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0 “Hannah Montana” is more of a brand name than a character. Watching the heroine’s feature film debut is kind of like watching a 102-minute preview for a bigger phenomenon or a commercial for a line of products. It’s like watching “Ronald McDonald: The Movie,” it’s just another part of the machine that is one of the most popular teen characters in the history of the Disney monopoly on kid’s entertainment.
