“The Trial of the Chicago 7” won the Ace Eddie Award for Best Edited Drama Film on Sunday, making it a top contender to win Best Film Editing at the Oscars. Editor Alan Baumgarten defeated two editors he will also face at the Oscars — Chloe Zhao for “Nomadland” and Mikkel E.G. Nielsen for “Sound of Metal,” with the latter expected to be “Trial’s” biggest competition after his BAFTA win. If the cards fall as awards prognosticators are expecting them to, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” would join a very small group of films to only win Best Film Editing.
“Trial” has five other Oscar nominations but is not projected to win any of those categories, according to the latest Gold Derby odds. If the courtroom drama walked away with just Best Film Editing, it would become only the ninth film to do so. The first was “Eskimo” (1934), which...

One of the most reliable predictors of the Best Picture winner at the Oscars has been the Best Film Editing category. Only 10 films have taken home the big prize without at least contending for cutting since that category was introduced at the seventh Academy Awards in 1934.
Of this year’s eight Best Picture nominees, “Black Panther,” “Roma” and “A Star is Born” did not make the cut for Best Film Editing at the Oscars. In the hunt for that award are five of their Best Picture rivals: “BlacKkKlansman,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Favourite,” “Green Book” and “Vice.”
The most recent film to defy this stat was “Birdman” three years ago; it did contend at the film editors guild awards for its seemingly seamless scenes. While “Black Panther” was snubbed by the guild, both “Roma” and “A Star is Born” number among the five nominees for best edited drama at the Ace Eddie Awards alongside “BlacKkKlansman,...

The idea of being stuck in ice in the middle of nowhere is a terrifying thought.
Where do you run when trouble comes calling?
Hiding in a tent doesn't work as one of Sir John's men found out on The Terror Season 1 Episode 3 when the Eskimo's monster snatched and viciously killed him, but who the monster really wanted was Sir John.
The captain of the Erebus and the entire expedition didn't have a chance even though he thought he did. It's fitting that he was mauled and then thrown into the hole into which he had the dead Inuit thrown.
Karma is a bitch, and then you die. And that's exactly what happened to Sir John.
I was hoping the bastard captain would get attacked at some point, but I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon.
His outburst at Francis was unnecessary. He was mean and insulting, and in the end,...
