Prancin' With Anson
bkoganbing31 July 2009
This ten minute musical short was the film debut of Bing Crosby's younger brother Bob who while he never had the career that big brother had, still carved out a respectable niche for himself in the jazz world.

But his first break was joining one of the great sweet bands of that era led by Anson Weeks. Brother Bing had in fact recorded one of his early hit songs Please with Anson Weeks's Orchestra. Here after Bob Crosby is hired by the Anson Weeks he sings a medley from his brother's latest screen hit We're Not Dressing.

Three songs from that score by Harry Revel and Mack Gordon were used, Love Thy Neighbor, May I, and Goodnight Lovely Little Lady. The last one was not sung to a bear as Bing did in his film.

Instead Bob sings them out over the air to Toby Wing who does absolutely nothing here, but look beautiful.

In the future for Bob Crosby was a daytime variety show and being the front man for a band which played in a Dixieland style. But in Rhythm On The Roof you can see Bob in his very first screen appearance.
