Boris Karloff's character of engineer Poelzig in THE BLACK CAT was the inspiration for the mad scientist in this short cartoon. His hairdo, overall, the way he climbs down the spiral staircase, the shadows are obviously referenced in the cartoon as well as the organ playing by Karloff's mad scientist - a horror-film-stereotype that is derived from THE BLACK CAT.
