Sex & Nudity
-
- None
Violence & Gore
-
- 4 people die. No blood.
- Mild violence throughout however some might consider such violence moderate since people are depicted as being killed in the movie. No gore but two wolf like creatures are brutally beaten to death.
Profanity
-
- 1 use of shit easy to miss.
- 1 use of shit.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Some characters smoke onscreen. Nothing too shocking
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The film features a recurring satanic theme, including many references to pentagrams
- Gothic atmosphere throughout. Fog shrouded forests. Dark cobblestone streets. Graveyards, etc.
- The Wolf Man attacks other characters with exciting music and lots of growling. Not overly violent by modern standards, but still thrilling, and potentially scary for younger audiences.
- The Wolf Man is a tragedy, and depicts a man who is tormented by a monstrous affliction beyond his control. There is a melancholy quality to the character that may be affecting for some audiences.
- The Wolfman may be frightening to some young children but the special effects and make-up aren't very realistic as the film was made in 1941, so children aged 5 or 6 and up probably won't be scared.
Spoilers
Violence & Gore
- A man is taking notes on another man's death and says he was "bit in the jugular." Another character gets scared by it and because of that it is most likely played for laughs.
- A young woman is attacked and killed by a werewolf. Mostly offscreen, but her screaming is fairly intense.
- A man struggles with, and kills, a wolf. The wolf is later revealed to be a man.
- A man is bitten by a wolf. Not shown onscreen but discussed at length throughout.
- A gravedigger is attacked and killed by the Wolf Man. Depicted as more of a struggle with the implication of death.
- A man beats the Wolf Man to death with a silver headed cane. The Wolf Man then transforms back into a peaceful looking Larry Talbot after his death. No blood or visible injury.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- The Wolf Man chases a protagonist through the woods at night in the climax of the film, with fog and expressionistic lighting. May be scary for some younger audiences. Could be especially distressing because the character is the love interest of the Wolf Man's human alter ego.
- The Wolf Man is tragically killed by his own father. This is the final, sad coda of the film.
