Ron reviews an ambitiously weird episode of Falling Skies...
Falling Skies is not a show that likes to linger too much on things that happen off-screen. The first season starts with humanity in the midst of a fight against the aliens. The second season introduces a bunch of new characters, kills off other ones, and relies on the viewer to watch a web series and read a comic book tie-in for further information. The third season jumped right into the thick of things, too, with Anne massively pregnant and immediately giving birth, with the home viewers having missed pretty much everything from the end of the second season to President Tom Mason.
This week's episode starts out with Tom waking up next to his wife. No, not Anne; his first wife, Rebecca, is there beside a clean-shaven and nearly unrecognizable Professor Tom Mason as...

Los Angeles -- Noah Wyle is confronting an alien invasion, the death of his wife and the potential annihilation of the human species in "Falling Skies."
But he had to face a more personal issue in tackling the role of history professor Tom Mason in TNT's sci-fi series, returning 9-11 p.m. Edt Sunday for season two: Wyle, 41, has become an elder statesman, relatively speaking.
"I'm Anthony Edwards," said Wyle, referring to the "ER" co-star who's got eight years on him and boasted more credits when they started on the medical drama in 1994. "I'm the guy who's been around a little longer and has a little more set savvy."
It's a shift that came up faster than expected for Wyle, who looks younger than his years despite the beard he added for gravitas on "Falling Skies."

New research suggests that people may soon be able to charge their mobile phones simply by walking. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin claim to have invented a small device that generates electricity from human motion. "Humans, generally speaking, are very powerful energy-producing machines," Professor Tom Krupenkin said, according to BBC News. "While sprinting, a person can produce as much as a kilowatt of power." The invention is placed inside (more)...

Tonight history professor-turned-guerilla-leader Tom Mason mounts a risky operation to rescue his son from his alien captors in Falling Skies. Plus Grace Woodward cheers up more women in Chick Fix and Jackie's pill addiction is veering out of control on Nurse Jackie. Falling Skies FX/HD: 10pm There were doubtlessly times Professor Tom Mason wished he had some sort of device to calm his kids down when they were acting up, but the mechanical mind-control harnesses the invading aliens have used to enslave the Earth's children are a bit much.

Falling Skies Season 1 will be premiering in the United Kingdom on FX UK, on Tuesday, July 5th
The bastard children of Brundlefly and Crabs have invaded the Earth and reduced humanity to a rump in this new post-apocalarama from Steven Spielberg.
Spielberg, it seems, approaches television like ordinary people think about having children. There’s an element of narcissism in his choices, a need to pass his memes to the next generation. In Band of Brothers, the miniseries he co-produced with Tom Hanks, the aim was to see Saving Private Ryan live on, via the drool box. Falling Skies, created by Ryan scribe Robert Rodat, takes Spielberg’s 2005 War of the Worlds and gives it a televisual afterlife.
The importation of movie talent to the small screen was once a tantalizing prospect but that was before Television got its act together and started making mincemeat of comparable genres in movie theatres.

Where once summer TV was made up almost exclusively of stale reruns – and perhaps a couple of new second-rate game shows that no one really cared about – there’s been a paradigm shift over the last decade or so in which the once-unadventurous cable networks started indulging in this little thing called original programming.
What’s more, many of them are now choosing to debut a slew of their original series during the warmer months to avoid competition from the “Big Four”, which can only equal happiness for a legion of loyal couch potatoes. I mean hell, who needs the outdoors anyway, right?
Here are twelve new and returning shows to keep you cool this summer. Before all you True Blood and Torchwood fanatics go bonkers on me, this list is highlighting shows AfterElton.com doesn’t already cover extensively. Hey, it might be summer, but you can still broaden your horizons some!

Heading back to the set to interview Harry and Nathan, I began watching a few more takes under the guidance of director Charles Martin Smith. Working on Dolphin Tale as production assistant interns, were a handful of University of Tampa students. The film program has really picked up over the last couple years and many people in Hollywood have been taking advantage of the talented bunch the school has produced. Professor Tom Garrett was pleased to inform me that many have been asked to stay on as paid crew members stemming from all their tremendous efforts. Having been on the Ut campus and covering the independent film scene in Florida, [...]...
