Sex & Nudity

  • There is a very vaguely implied sexual relationship between the characters of Richard and Anne. It is very subtle.

Violence & Gore

  • Clarence is drowned in a barrel of wine.
  • Hastings is beheaded (only the aftermath of the execution is seen, though we do get a brief glimpse of the chopping blood covered in blood).
  • Edward and York (who are young children) are smothered to death with a pillow while they are sleeping. The thought of children being murdered is disturbing, but it is not graphic in this film in any way. The pillow is very briefly seen being pushed down upon their faces, and then the camera cuts away.
  • The final battle scene is intense and shows some brief glimpses of bloody violence

Profanity

  • No profanity of any kind. Every line is taken verbatim from Shakespeare's play.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main characters often drink wine socially in moderation.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Right at the end, Richard III is killed in battle by Richmond and others. He is briefly shown covered in blood and falling dead on the ground. Somewhat violent, but you only see it for a split second.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Richard is haunted by ghosts, who tell him he is doomed for death and damnation due to his wicked deeds. Part of Shakespeare's play, and not overly scary or intense.
