- Sasuke the boatman: I'm so glad. I'm so glad. I was praying I wouldn't bring Master Musashi back dead.
- [He smiles]
- Sasuke the boatman: I'm so glad about it all. I'm so happy!
- [Musashi is upset about having to kill Sasaki, and tries to stifle his tears]
- Musashi Miyamoto: I dreamt of worldly success once. I thought it was natural to settle down, but now I want to train myself further.
- Otsu: I hate samurai. I wish you were still the Takezo who I used to know. Darling, abandon your sword. Don't fight! Let them call you a coward. I want happiness, just us two!
- [She sobs into Musashi's chest while Musashi looks straight on, sternly]
- Musashi Miyamoto: That's impossible now, Otsu.
- Otsu: Please, I won't let you go! No!
- [She continues sobbing into Musashi's chest, but Musashi pushes her up gently to look at him]
- Musashi Miyamoto: Don't be unreasonable.
- Otsu: I'm a woman. I wish you had been an ordinary man.
- [She buries herself in Musashi's chest and continues crying]
- Musashi Miyamoto: Otsu, don't demoralize me, please. A samurai's wife sends off her man with a smile.
- [Otsu looks up at Musashi]
- Musashi Miyamoto: Especially when it might be for the last time.
- Otsu: [faint smile] Of course.
- Kumagoro the horse thief: Apologize! Write a letter of apology addressed to us all. Or, I'll take you out in the yard and wash your face with horse piss.
- Old Priest Nikkan: Strength alone won't make an accomplished swordsman. He must be strong. At the same time, he must be just.
- Musashi Miyamoto: I want to be able to fight without regrets. My past encounters were full of them.
- Old Priest Nikkan: "One can only smile contentedly after 10 years of pilgrimage." Musashi, you still have much to learn.
- Old Priest Nikkan: Have you ever fallen in love? I know a person who's madly in love with you. Do you want to meet this person?
- Musashi Miyamoto: Well...
- Old Priest Nikkan: So there's already someone in your heart. Don't worry. The person I'm talking about is a man.
- Musashi Miyamoto: A man who longs for a man?
- Old Priest Nikkan: Yes, a man. He wants to meet you.
- Musashi Miyamoto: We'll live here.
- Jotaro: Here?
- Musashi Miyamoto: And plow.
- Kumagoro the horse thief: What about training for sword fighting?
- Musashi Miyamoto: As we plow, we will learn the way of the sword.
- Musashi Miyamoto: That's the hut we built. We three live in it. And we've tilled those patches of land. It was barren. But it's yielding crops lately thanks to our labor. In the old days, I used to hate farm work. I was always daydreaming, longing for victory and renown. I could think of nothing else. Now I'm tilling the fields again. Isn't it strange? I'm beginning to learn the value of life. The soil has taught me that.
- Sasuke the boatman: It's an honor for a boatman to row for Master Musashi. The boat's been purified.
- Kojiro Sasaki: I'll defeat Musashi. That has long been my ambition. I'll defeat him through my own ability. The prayers of those who wish me victory and talismans are useless to me. Therefore, do not pray for me. Affections and attachments disturb my inner tranquility. I want to fight alone.
