The motorcycle diner/meeting point was filmed at The Ace Cafe on the North Circular Road, *the* meeting point for British motorcyclists in the 1960s. Closed down and used as a tyre depot in the 1970s and 1980s, the site was restored and reopened in September 2001 and is again popular with motorcyclists and car enthusiasts. Upon its reopening, Rita Tushingham visited the Ace, later doing so with both Dudley Sutton and Colin Campbell.
One of the first films to clearly violate the Hollywood production code and yet still secure a release in the United States.
Scenes from this movie can be seen in the background of The Smiths' music video for "Girlfriend in A Coma".
Reg's motorcycle is a 650cc Triumph T120R Bonneville by the time they undertake the Edinburgh run, but earlier in the film Reg's motorcycle is a 500cc Triumph Speed Twin - which is because partway through the film (and the film clearly mentions this) he trades in the latter for the former.
The film had a great deal of improvisation.
