When Shaboozey was writing “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” he wanted to keep the arrangements sounding as organic as possible. He built the track around J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy,” and within an hour, he had his very own ode to raising a glass — with a country twist. The megahit quickly went viral and topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart, surpassing “Texas Hold ’Em” by Beyoncé. (Shaboozey had actually teamed up with her for two songs on her recent country LP, Cowboy Carter.) Together, they became the first two Black artists to lead that chart back-to-back.

If coughing blood into a napkin is “movie for dying,” Ariana Grande and Bowen Yang pairing up for a musical mashup is “Saturday Night Live for funny.” And funny it was!
In this weekend’s spoof of Moulin Rouge, the 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, musical guest Grande joined Yang in a never-before-seen, uncut version of the film’s iconic love medley. The extended mashup started off the same as the actual film’s, but quickly segued into a particularly giggly Yang and Grande duetting a bizarre collection of mostly unrelated, unromantic songs including “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

Josh Brolin technically served as the host on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, but Ariana Grande also spent plenty of time on screen. In addition to serving as the episode’s musical guest, the pop star appeared in three separate sketches, including one in which she and Wicked co-star Bowen Yang spoofed Moulin Rouge.
Marking her first live appearance in support of eternal sunshine, which was released this past Friday, Grande performed “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” and “imperfect for you.” For the latter performance, Grande was introduced by her mother.
Grande also teamed up with Yang for a spoofing of Moulin Rouge, which saw the pair sing songs that were cut from the final version of the film, such as Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” Styx’s “Come Sail Away,” and “Happy Birthday.”

Ariana Grande wasn’t just the musical guest during the March 9 episode of “Saturday Night Live.” While she took the stage to perform two songs from “Eternal Sunshine,” her just-released sixth album, “We Can’t Be Friends” and “Imperfect For You” — and was introduced by her mom, Joan Grande, for the second number — she also took on two different sketches.
After appearing as a patient in a group therapy session during the first half of the show, she was invited back to the stage later on in the night for a “Moulin Rouge” spoof, giving her the opportunity to sing covers of multiple hit songs.
The sketch created a PBS special, hosted by Mikey Day, taking a look at what the “Elephant Love Medley” would have looked like had director Baz Luhrmann known they’d be able to get the rights to other love songs; Bowen Yang and Grande played Christian and Satine,...

The first solo George Harrison album came out years before The Beatles split. George revealed he wanted the record to serve as a “mini-anthology of Indian music.” He also explained why Indian music meant so much to him. The record in question was a much bigger hit in the United States than it was in the United Kingdom.
The 1st solo George Harrison album was the soundtrack of a hippie movie
George released his first solo album, Wonderwall Music, in 1968, two years before The Beatles’ breakup. The album was the soundtrack to the hippie-themed movie Wonderwall. During a 1993 interview from the book George Harrison on George Harrison: Interviews and Encounters, George was asked to discuss the record. “Well, in talking about this world music, because of my fascination with Indian music — and by that time, I’d been to India a couple of times — when I did that music, what...

Critics and fans have repeatedly compared Oasis to The Beatles. Oasis’ Liam Gallagher said one of his band’s songs features the voice of John Lennon. Subsequently, Gallagher said the song isn’t a tribute to John because tributes to John are terrible.
John Lennon | Harry Benson / Stringer 1 Oasis song includes a John Lennon quote and a riff similar to ‘A Day in the Life’
Oasis’ songs often reference The Beatles. Oasis songs name Fab Four tracks like “The Long and Winding Road,” “The Fool on the Hill,” and “I Feel Fine.” Perhaps the most overt Beatles reference in Oasis’ discography is in the song “I’m Outta Time.”
The tune features audio of John saying “As Churchill said, ‘It’s every Englishman’s inalienable right to live where the hell he likes.’ What’s it going to do, vanish? Is it not going to be there when I get back?...

Paul McCartney has been writing songs almost as long as he’s been alive. He played an Eddie Cochran song to impress John Lennon during an audition to join The Quarrymen, and the pair started writing originals soon after. The rest — The Beatles, Wings, a prolific solo career, being called an idiot by an artist who covered one of their songs — is history. But how many songs has Paul written? Let’s take a look.
Paul McCartney | Robert R. McElroy/Getty Images Paul McCartney has written at least 1,059 songs
John and Paul routinely shared songwriting credits on their Beatles tunes. Even if one contributed far more to the formulation of a song than the other (such as “The Ballad of John and Yoko”), both were listed as co-writers.
The duo started their own publishing company, Northern Songs, to house the rights to their music. The enterprise published hundreds of Fab Four songs.

The Beatles are still the most-successful musical act of all time. It is harder to measure success now in the streaming era, but based on sales and No. 1 hits on the charts, no one has passed The Beatles. Every musical act wants to achieve the same success as the Liverpool band, but that’s almost impossible. Paul McCartney says it’s a mistake for any band to think they could be “bigger than The Beatles.”

Oasis was a successful band formed in 1991 and was active until 2009. In the 1990s, the band had a massive jump in success which might have caused the band to become cocky. During a 1996 interview with MTV, Oasis’ lead singer Noel Gallagher claimed the band was “bigger than The Beatles.” He later admitted to being intoxicated during the interview.

George Harrison had to fight and scratch to get his songs on Beatles records. That’s a well-known fact among Fab Four fans and might explain why he never missed his bandmates when the group broke up. Yet his tunes left their mark when they did show up. George’s most experimental Beatles songs show he was just as instrumental in pushing the band’s boundaries as Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

George’s Beatles songs were relatively few and far between since John and Paul acted as the gatekeepers when it came to putting tunes on Beatles albums. Still, the so-called quiet Beatle put three songs on Revolver and another four on the White Album.
The guitarist placed two songs on Abbey Road, the final album the Fab Four recorded together.

While John Lennon and Paul McCartney were in their own little world being one of the greatest songwriting partners in music, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were forging a perfect partnership of their own.

While The Beatles didn’t split until 1970, George Harrison already had ideas for his triple album, All Things Must Pass. Gallagher has had a successful music career, producing hit songs with Oasis like “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova.” However, any U.K. musician is aware of the influence and legacy The Beatles had on the rock n’ roll community. In an interview with BBC Radio Manchester, Gallagher proudly declared The Beatles as “the best” and shared several reasons why.

Happy 25th birthday to Be Here Now, Oasis’ third album and one of the most notorious bombs in rock history. The boozing, brawling Manchester lads were on top of the world in 1997, coming off two perfect albums, Definitely Maybe and (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? But on August 21, the Gallagher brothers dropped the big one. Be Here Now is a lot more than just another flop album. It’s the kind of flop that legends are built on. It’s a rhinestone-studded dinosaur that cannonballed into a kiddie pool.

Liam Gallagher launched his tour in support of his new album, C’Mon You Know, Thursday with a hometown gig in Manchester where the singer performed an Oasis track neither he nor his former band ever played live.
Midway through his Oasis-heavy set at Etihad Stadium — the show featured 12 Oasis tracks on the 22-song setlist — Gallagher whipped out “Roll It Over,” the closer from the band’s 2000 LP Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, and a song that had never been performed live by any member of Oasis since its release 22 years ago.

In the penultimate episode of “American Idol” 2022, two fan-favorite singers were cut from the competition in fourth/fifth place: Fritz Hager and Nicolina. (Read our minute-by-minute live blog to see how it all went down.) Between 22-year-old Fritz and 18-year-old Nicolina, whose “American Idol” elimination was more shocking on Sunday, May 15? Vote in our poll below and then defend your choice in the comments section.

“American Idol” auditions continued with the second episode of Season 20 on Sunday, March 6. Nine talented artists earned golden tickets to Hollywood, with Kenedi Anderson securing the second coveted Platinum Ticket (Huntergirl received the first in Episode 1). But was Kenedi the best of the night? And did these aspiring stars choose the right songs? Below I rank each hopeful from the least impressive (but with room to grow) to a Season 20 frontrunner. I also throw in a song suggestion or artist I’d love to hear them cover.
But first, I want to give props to that Nashville tour Luke Bryan gave host Ryan Seacrest and his fellow judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. What a fun moment! And even more kudos for the cheese song by Luke and Katy. Sounds like a hit to me! Both were big episode highlights outside of actual auditions. But enough about the judges, let...

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2021, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
As 2021 careens recklessly to a close, it seems mentally beneficial to emphasize the positives.
On a personal level, the opportunity to return to cinemas, especially with my children, felt wondrous. And while I was unable to attend the Toronto International Film Festival in person for the second-straight year, having the chance to virtually cover TIFF, Sundance, SXSW, Hot Docs, Tribeca, New York, and Chicago in the last twelve months was a genuine pleasure. It was through these festivals that I saw many of the films on the list below.
Just outside my top fifteen are a number of films that delighted and enthralled me: Joel Coen’s marvelous Tragedy of Macbeth; Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s triumphant Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy and Drive My Car; Edgar Wright’s...

To celebrate the release of Oasis Knebworth 1996 – available to buy and rent on digital now – we’ve partnered with family-run musical retailer Andertons to give away an Epiphone Les Paul Classic in Heritage Cherry Sunburst – a model played by Noel Gallagher himself!
On 10th & 11th August 1996, 250,000 young music fans converged on Knebworth Park, Hertfordshire to see Oasis play two record breaking, era defining shows. The landmark concerts sold out in under a day with over 2% of the UK population attempting to buy tickets. This was a time when the UK was slowly recovering from a decade of recession. A surging confidence in arts and culture ushered in Cool Britannia and Oasis meteoric rise reflected the country’s new found conviction and swagger. Featuring interviews, behind the scenes footage and a setlist packed from beginning to end with stone cold classics, including Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger,...

There are multiple moments during Oasis Knebworth 1996, the hugely entertaining documentary revisiting the Britpop legends’ most gargantuan concert, when present-day interviewees remark how lovely it was that the show occurred pre-iPhone, Facebook, etc. Yes, it is the “Not a cell phone in sight. Just people living in the moment” meme brought to life. And in this instance it’s hard to disagree. The audience was not littered with screens. There were no social media platforms overflowing with attendee gloating. Indeed, the Internet of 1996 was glitchy and unavailable to many. Ticket-purchasing involved waiting in long lines outside record stores or tying up the home phone line while waiting (impatiently) on hold.
As Oasis Knebworth 1996 vividly details, just getting to a concert like Knebworth was not easy. Even more difficult? Finding modern bands with enough popularity to headline such a location. Knebworth House was the domain of Monsters of Rock () like the Rolling Stones,...

"This is history! Right here, right now!" Trafalgar Releasing has revealed the first trailer for a music history doc film called Oasis Knebworth 1996, which is about that exact concert. It is not a concert doc, per se, although it's being marketed as one. It's a "look back at" the iconic Oasis concert at Knebworth Park outside of London. This trailer launch marks 25 years to the very day since the first night of the record-breaking Knebworth 1996 concerts. With a setlist packed from beginning to end with stone cold classics, including Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger, the Knebworth concerts were both the pinnacle of the band's success and a landmark gathering of a generation. Directed by Jake Scott featuring extensive concert and exclusive never-before seen footage, "this is a joyful and at times poignant cinematic celebration of one of the most important concert events of the last...

When George Harrison went into the studio in 1970 to make All Things Must Pass, he was a man on a mission. He’d spent years waiting for this moment. George had so many songs saved up from his years in the Beatles, when he was limited to two or three songs per album. By now, he was sitting on a massive stash of material he was burning to share with the world. So he made sure nobody could ignore his definitive solo statement—the massive triple-vinyl classic All Things Must Pass.

It doesn’t matter how pure a sound is when it catches the ear’s attention, someone in the music industry will find a way to infect it. Pop music is infectious by design, and Netflix’s This Is Pop, reveals the delivery system. The eight-part docuseries focuses on some of the less unexamined moments of the most scrutinized genre in music. It is as depressing as it is exhilarating, and it barely skips a beat.
Much like the recent Apple TV+ series 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything, This is Pop shows how pop music reflects and influences culture. Music has always been a great unifier, both for listeners and musicians. Regardless of race, faith, or sexual preference, everyone has a favorite song, and people are drawn to the art of music from every background. Of all his post-Beatles undertakings, George Harrison was especially fond of All Things Must Pass, the 1970 triple-lp set he released months after the group had officially imploded.
“It was a really nice experience making that album — because I was really a bit paranoid, musically,” Harrison said a few years later. “I remember having those people in the studio and thinking, ‘God, these songs are so fruity!’ I’d play it to them and they’d say, ‘Wow, yeah! Great song!’ And I’d say, ‘Really? Do you really like it?...

TV provided a lot of memorable musical moments this year.
Some were amazing, and some were very disturbing.
Plus a few classics were dusted off and found new life during these dark times.
1. "Wonderwall"/"Bad Romance"/"Let It Go" - Ted Lasso
Just when you thought Afc Richmond football couldn't score any higher in the adorable and endearing categories, they went to a karaoke bar on Ted Lasso Season 1 Episode 7.
Sam's rendition of "Wonderwall" was heartfelt. Coach Beard's performance of "Bad Romance" would make Lady Gaga proud. Then Rebecca brought down the house with "Let It Go."
The only thing more entertaining than the singers were the reactions of the usually gruff Roy Kent and a shirtless Dani Rojas.
2. "I Want to be Evil"/"Someone to Watch Over Me - Lucifer
Compared to Lucifer Season 4, the first half of Lucifer Season 5 didn't feature the cast showing off their vocals as often.

Liam Gallagher is rarely at a loss for words, snide or otherwise. But during a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer was left momentarily speechless after being informed that “Wonderwall,” the monster 1995 ballad he sang with his old band, Oasis, is on its way to approaching 1 billion streams on Spotify.
“That’s pretty big, man,” Gallagher says, finally, as if it took a few seconds for the enormity of that figure to sink in. Then the old Liam, the one who loves to bash his songwriting brother, Noel, returns.

“Do you want to know a secret,” the Beatles asked in an early hit. But one of them never promised not to tell. The Beatles’ private breakup became public when Paul McCartney issued a press release on April 10, 1970, saying he no longer saw himself working with the band or writing with John Lennon.
Much like the Beatles’ single “We Can Work It Out” was structured around a verse call to a middle-eight response, McCartney’s announcement was formatted as a Q&a and didn’t include a chorus.
Q: “Is this album a rest away from the Beatles or the start of a solo career?”
Paul: “Time will tell. Being a solo album means it’s ‘the start of a solo career’…and not being done with the Beatles means it’s just a rest. So it’s both.”

Florence Pugh, the breakout star of 2019 dramas “Little Women” and “Midsommar,” apparently has another talent: singing. The 24 year-old actress used to regularly perform covers and play acoustic guitar on YouTube as a teenager in 2013.
Pugh, whose next film is Marvel’s “Black Widow” spinoff opposite Scarlett Johansson, went by a different stage name, Flossie Rose, in her YouTube videos, which date back to 2013. She was 17 years-old at the time with about 3,000 subscribers to her channel, which isn’t that bad. Her video viewership was also promising. Pugh’s most popular clip, a cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” has nearly 50,000 views to date.
Watch the “Wonderwall” video below:
The performance gene runs in Pugh’s blood as her mother dances and her siblings act and perform music. Her mother also has a YouTube channel where videos can be found of Pugh at an even younger age than when she started her own channel.

Endeavor has recruited industry veteran Lloyd Braun to oversee Wme and the rest of the company’s portfolio of representation and management businesses.
As part of the arrangement, Endeavor has invested in Braun’s Whalerock Industries consulting banner. Whalerock will continue to function with Endeavor as operating partner. Whalerock chief operating officer Anne-Marie O’Neill will become CEO of Whalerock as Braun adds Endeavor duties.
Braun will report to Mark Shapiro, president of Endeavor. His appointment comes about six weeks after Endeavor tabled its plan for an Ipo amid market volatility and lukewarm investor demand. It’s not surprising that Liam Gallagher has struggled to find his own creative voice in the decade since Oasis’ messy breakup. His attempt to form a new band with ex-members of Oasis minus his brother Noel was laughable for the simple fact that it was Noel who wrote all their songs (try to imagine a Who without Pete Townshend and you’ll get the picture.)

“Antagonistic. Super sensitive. Impulsive. Very arrogant at times. Fearless. And more ambitious than he thinks he is.” This is how Debbie Gwyther, Liam Gallagher’s manager and girlfriend, describes the former Oasis frontman in the documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was. There’s a lot to unpack in those words, but they ring true for Oasis fans, as well as those who have followed Gallagher’s post-Oasis efforts. There are few singers in modern music who command the stage like the singer of “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova.” And there are few figures more delightfully volatile.
The documentary is a riveting, highly engaging documentary about one of the few rock stars of the 1990s who deserves icon status. While it’s likely to be of interest only for Oasis fans, this is not an example of simple hero worship. Instead, As It Was is the epitome of warts and all. The battles with brother Noel Gallagher,...

The film Yesterday imagines a world where the Beatles never existed. But what might have filled the gap?
In Danny Boyle's film Yesterday, a struggling young musician played by Jack Malik suffers an accident at exactly the same moment a major power surge burns all evidence of former skiffle group the Beatles out of the collective memory of the masses. Only the musician remembers the songs, the stories, and the band's place in the history of popular music. The film, however, is still set in a world where the culture that was shaped by the influence of four relatively working class musicians from a port city remained curiously intact. The Rolling Stones are still around; so is Childish Gambino, thank the gods of music. But Oasis doesn't come up on Google searches when partnered with “Wonderwall.” We can assume there was no Squeeze, Electric Light Orchestra,...
