Grindhouse Trailer Classics Vol. 3
Introduced by Kim Newman | Produced by Marc Morris, Jake West
Nucleus Films follow up the critically acclaimed first two volumes in the Grindhouse Trailer Classics series with this all-new third volume, featuring even more outrageous and crazy trailers for movies from the heady days of cult and exploitation cinema, the likes of which have sadly been lost in this day and age of Hollywood blockbusters and high definition entertainment.
Throwing politically correctness out the window, the trailers in this third epic volume run the gamut from sexploitation movies (which seem to have an obsession with swinging Sweden and the activities which apparently go on there), biker movies, blackploitation classics – who doesn’t want to watch The Spook Who Sat By the Door?, martial arts masterpieces such as Deadly China Doll and Revenge of the Ninja, good old nazispolitation (Nazi Love Camp 27 I’m looking at you...

Because I'm currently job hunting I don't always have a firm grasp on things like "what day it is" or "am I wearing pants" (seriously, have we all decided that yoga pants count or no? No, then. Ok, that's cool) so I briefly got excited with all the Harry Potter pictures because I thought it might be premiering this weekend but No. Stupid internet. Anyway, it means that I'm far more underwhelmed by tonight's television offerings than I would be otherwise. And really, real housewives and "Big Brother" are happening on the same night? So it's just turned into a vortex of "your life is boring so here, watch these other people's boring lives to feel better because we're still pretending that's entertainment" and bleh. Almost makes me want to cancel cable. Then I remember it's included in my rent. For now. Here's your Thursday (right? Yeah, ok, good.) night...

Earlier in the week some of you were suggesting that I drop the "Intern" part of my name since I have graduate. It's very kind of you, but puts me in a bind because I'm the one who chose the term "Intern Rusty" so that prospective employers googling me didn't necessarily turn up discussions of thrush and what shows are best for the casual viewer who appreciates handsome men but not plot. (I have a fairly unusual name.) However, I am open to the idea of a new title so if you've got suggestions please let me know. Here's your Thursday night TV:

"Wipeout" on ABC
9:00pm: "Burn Notice" on USA

Since the announcement last year that James O’Barr’s cult classic The Crow would be rebooted by Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company, the production has been fraught with production troubles and fan-backlash. Last October, Stephen Norrington (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), the director and creative force behind the reboot, left the project completely. So that script and “unnamed actor” that Norrington wanted to star in it was scrapped. Relativity then announced in April that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) would be helming The Crow but trouble quickly followed with a lawsuit by The Weinstein Company suing Relativity Media over the distribution rights to the movie. Norrington’s version of the reboot would not touch the James O’Barr source material, but now, with Fresnadillo aboard, the reboot will “reinvent” the story of Eric Draven and Shelly Webster.

Summer series are premiering tonight which is exciting but not in that way that anyone's blocked off their evening and tripled checked the DVR to make sure things record, but in the way that you go "oh, well that's nice" when you find out about it and then you forget to watch anyway and give the whole endeavor up to massive indifference. So, not actually exciting at all, really. I am intrigued by the concept of "Wilfred" because Elijah Wood playing crazy is something I can really and truly get behind. Frankly, ever since Sin City happened it's hard for me to see him as anything else which makes the whole Lord of the Rings movies a touch more disturbing to watch. Also it's apparently Mahler night on PBS and while Mahler has never been one of my absolute favorites I know that his fans tend to be pretty devoted...

(Beverly Hills, CA) June 22, 2011 . Relativity Media.s President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley, and Edward R. Pressman, producer behind the cult-classic The Crow franchise, announced today they have attached Alex Tse (Watchmen) to write their reinvention of The Crow, the 1994 critically acclaimed, sensation based on the comic book series and comic strip by James O.Barr.
Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), The Crow adaptation will be a gritty reboot of the gothic iconic character Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife.s murder, so that his soul can finally rest. Bradley Cooper (Limitless) is attached to star as Draven. The original film is known for its breakthrough visual style as well as its unique production design and cinematography. Fresnadillo and Tse are perfectly suited to bring these beloved characters back to life, and to create a world worthy of this modern classic.

It's funny how Thursday night during the regular TV season is prime time and always packed with shows, but now that summer has started it's a wasteland. Thursday night used to be the night where I most keenly felt the lack of DVR in my life as I was frequently forced to make the choice of socializing with friends or watching my shows (particularly "Archer" thanks to the terrible fact that episodes didn't hit Hulu for a month). Now? Now most of my friends have departed for the summer and I'm left with a completely empty Thursday evening and basically nothing to keep me entertained. I blame all of you. Obviously. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "So You Think You Can Dance" on Fox
9:00pm: "The First 48" on A&E
"Boxing Gym" on PBS. This is a documentary about a boxing gym in Austin, Texas and the people who train there.

HollywoodNews.com: Relativity Media announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights to market and distribute Bandito Brothers’ Act of Valor. The groundbreaking film is an intense action-thriller which showcases an elite group of active duty Navy SEALs and co-stars Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2) and Emilio Rivera (Traffic). The studio is targeting a 2012 release date.
The film is directed by ex-stuntmen and documentary filmmakers/commercial directors Mike “Mouse” McCoy (Dust to Glory) and Scott Waugh (Step Into Liquid) and written by Kurt Johnstad (300).
Act of Valor follows a Navy Seal squad on a covert mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent, and in the process takes down a complex web of terrorist cells determined to strike America at all costs. The filmmakers had unprecedented Naval access resulting in high-octane combat sequences and never-before-seen military operation scenes which are composited from actual events in the lives of the men appearing...

The fifth game of the NBA finals is on tonight and if you've been following along at all, you'll know that the series is tied up at 2-2. The games I've seen so far (the first three, I missed the last one because of work and will be missing tonight's game for the same reason) have been back and forth the whole time and incredibly exciting. Except I don't really want exciting, because I'd just like the Heat to win. Frankly, it's probably a little better for my sanity that I won't be able to get any information on the game other than what the little Espn app on my phone is able to tell me. Today is Thursday which means that I got woken up by the delightful noise of my complex's dumpster being emptied (how is it that it's always so far away when you're carrying trash but sounds So Close when they dump it?) and as far as television goes it means next to nothing anymore. However, I know you "So You Think You Can Dance" fans are legion and there's another audition episode on tonight so that's, you know, auditiony. Also the second game of the NBA Finals but I'm not sure how popular the Dallas Mavericks are and I know that most people following the Heat are doing so more out of hatred of LeBron James or the idea that the team was able to manipulate the free agent system to basically buy themselves a Finals appearance than actual appreciation. I am not one of those people. Here's your Thursday night...

I hope those of you (Americans) who get Memorial day weekend off have lovely plans this weekend for picnics, grilling, bbqs, pool time, beach time, or maybe just shutting all your curtains turning your phone off and getting some sleep. Really, it's all about what you consider fun. It's also the official beginning of summer, which means nothing to me because it's been hot and humid for about the last month and before that the temperature hasn't gotten below the 70's since February. Still! For those of you who get to see this weekend as the weekend that reminds you that your world will slowly thaw and warm and bloom again, I hope you have a blast with that. And that all of us take a few moments to remember the soldiers this holiday is dedicated to and the recent victims of tornados who aren't going to be planning parties for a long time.

My job just keeps getting easier; more season finales tonight so there's less TV for me to list the further we inch towards summer. Of course, that means there's less to talk about, highlight and make fun of so we're about three weeks away from "Everything's stupid. Here's your damn TV" being the entire intro to this column. Anyway, I hope all you "Bones" and "Parks and Recreation" have your snacks lined up and your space on the couch cleared out. For those of you who are still in the hostage situation that is "Grey's Anatomy" well, I'll probably be there with you. And I'd like to wish everyone a happy Rapture or (more likely) a happy Saturday. I'm sure as shit not going anywhere, and I doubt many of you are either. Dear readers; today is the day that I walk across a stage and shake hands with Donna Shalala to signify that I have completed the coursework required to earn my Masters degree from the University of Miami. I won't be receiving the Actual degree for another few weeks, but there are so many places in life where appearances are what matter and according to my family who have come to Miami to watch those ten seconds happen, this is one of those times. Besides, fetching the mail is never a good excuse to buy a fancy new dress and shoes and send out announcements. In fact, this column will be posted right around the time my commencement ceremony wraps up, so if you're feeling generous please spare a thought for me and the difficult job search that's in my immediate future. Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate the brilliance of Corona's marketing team in discerning that Americans are extremely fond of cultural holidays that we perceive to be centered around drinking themed alcohol (see: St.Patrick's Day) and that any excuse to eat nachos is a good one. It sends a clear and coherent message to other cultures that we will adopt your fun holidays with glee but god forbid you ever try to move here. I do not yet have a comically oversized margarita in my hand, but as I'm writing this it's not even 2:30pm, so it's only a matter of time. I've been writing this column for... I don't know, like a year and a half now? And I still don't have a handle on how television schedules work which is kind of alarming. Like, "Grey's Anatomy." The most recent new episode aired on March 31st and there's not a new one scheduled until next week. There was another month long break between new episodes from February 24th to March 24th. Now, this isn't my favorite show by a long shot, but it's a show that I watch sometimes if I don't have something better to do on Thursdays and usually keep up with on Hulu on slow Fridays or over the weekend but I still find it incredibly frustrating that there's these weird gaps in the airing schedule. I can't imagine how annoying it must be for people who are really invested in the show. Oh, and Happy Easter to everyone celebrating this weekend!

Previous rumors (from February 2011) have been confirmed: 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is now set to direct The Crow reboot. Fresnadillo was once announced [1] as the director of the Gore Verbinski-produced big screen adaptation of the popular video game series Bioshock, and just got finished directing [2] Clive Owen in the horror/thriller Intruders. Previously: The new version of The Crow has been in the works for some time now, once with Stephen Norrington in the director's chair and Nick Cave rewriting [3] the director's script. Mark Wahlberg was attached for a moment [4], but all of these people walked away [5] before the end of 2010, reportedly because a new actor came on board and wanted a new writer to make big changes to the script. Since then we've heard vague rumors about different possible directors, the last of which [6] was Before The Fall helmer F. Javier Gutiérrez. A big screen adaptation...

As I write this column (at 10:52am Eastern Time) the Us is on the verge of a government shut down. The last time this happened was in 1996 under Bill Clinton and I don't really remember it too well because I was in elementary school at the time. My biggest concern was whether or not the shut down meant the schools would close too. That answer was no, so I stopped caring immediately. This time I care a little more but I find that every time I start reading too much about what is essentially a giant pissing contest between the two parties I just get angry that it seems like none of the legislators are interested in acting in the best interests of Americans, they're just looking to score some talking points for their reelection campaign which never actually begins or ends, it's just a constant process. Anyway, with...

Up until today I have not seen the video of the song "Friday" featuring Rebecca Black. Mostly because when it came out I was at SXSW and just didn't have time and after seeing everyone's reactions to it decided it was best to stay away. Very similar to my approach to "Two Girls One Cup." (Mom, Do Not Google That! Call me if you really want to know.) (Sorry, my parents read my column.) However, it was announced last night on "The Colbert Report" that Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon had raised $26,000 for Donors Choose and so Colbert would be performing Patrice Wilson's (the actual writer of the song, rather than the hapless teenager unfortunate enough to have sung it) "Friday" with The Roots on... Friday. Obviously. So I may have to watch the video just to get the full effect. Oh, and I also saw this video of Amanda Palmer...

It looks like the Police Women of Cincinnati, Maricopa County, Memphis, Broward County, and Dallas all have to make room for some four legged friends now that Tlc has picked up their new show Unleashed. According to Deadline, the six episode series about Broward County's K-9 unit will premiere April 7th following a new episode of Police Women of Broward County and subsequently air on the Discovery Channel.
The show is said to be lighter in tone, so expect a nice blend of warm and fuzzy moments with the crime solving and general errands associated with caring for a dog. If the success of their Police Women series is to be used as an indicator, I'd say that Unleashed stands a shot at doing well, but even if it doesn't, it's another slice of reality from a continually growing network. If you're struggling to remain excited for the remainder of the season,...

Yesterday Joanna told you about Google's plan to eliminate the Caps Lock key and many of you voiced your opinion that this would not be a positive thing. However, I wish at the moment that I didn't have a Caps Lock key because the side of my damn cast keeps bumping it as I try and use my left pointer finger to type and then I end up with weird sections of capitalized letters that I have to go back and delete so it doesn't look like I have some weird kind of typing Tourette's. That's not even touching the myriad typo issues I'm having. Point being, I'm all for eliminating the Caps Lock key, preferably on December 31st, 2010 before I broke my finger. The rest of you are wrong. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "American Idol" on Fox
"Community" on NBC
"The Vampire Diaries" on The CW.

So, um... that happened. Anyway, there's some different stuff happening tonight; a couple shows got moved around ("Bones" and "30 Rock") a couple new shows are premiering ("Fairly Legal" and "Perfect Couples"), and perhaps most importantly I'm doing my absolute damndest not to mention any sort of food products that may or may not be made with tortillas and which are most assuredly not the native food of any Us commonwealths. Even though I kind of wanted to because Ms.Shahi in the picture over there used to be on "The L-Word" and there's some really terrible and salacious puns to be made, perhaps some involving specifically flavored kisses but No! None of that. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "American Idol" on Fox.
"The Big Bang Theory" on CBS
"Community" on NBC
"Wipeout: Winter Wipeout" on ABC. I'm thinking I might actually watch this. It's been one of those...

Police Women of Cincinnati, Thursdays at 9 p.m. Est on Tlc
Police Women of Cincinnati is the fifth installment of the Tlc show, which features female police officers on the job. I've watched other episodes before, so I pretty much knew what to expect. It's like Cops, but with girls. And that's definitely not a bad thing.
The show introduces four of the best female officers in the city. These women have to put up with racial slurs as well as gender discrimination. Suspects are constantly yelling and telling them to get real jobs and saying that they aren't real cops because they are women. I gotta say, I give them credit for putting up with that sh*t.

Television tonight is Seriously slim pickings so I guess I can let y'all in on the loose details about why I keep referring to an injured hand. Short version: I fell down. Long version: I fell down real hard. What's broken is the proximal phalanx of my left pinkie or, for those of you who don't speak science, the bottom bone in my left pinkie. My X-ray analysis skills have mostly been learned from doctor-ish TV characters, but it looked like the break started on the far left side towards the bottom and went through the bone diagonally. I had thought this would get me some kind of splint but for reasons which are unclear to me, I have a cast covering my arm from a few inches below my elbow to the first knuckle of my left hand that holds my fingers in a curled over position. So! That's why my hand hurts,...

Maybe it's just me but have y'all noticed that it's seemed a bit... contentious around here lately? I mean, I'm used to having the occasional barb lobbed at me, that's what I'm here for after all, but it seems like there's been more fights and sniping in the comments overall this week and I don't know why. The onset of winter making you punchy? Premature holiday decorations in the stores got you twitchy? Or does everyone just need to retreat to their own corners for the weekend and take a bit of a breather? Whatever it is, I encourage all of you to do it, because while I'm pretty sure no one minds a good natured argument now and again, I'd rather we not descend into the kind of nastiness and points-scoring mentality that seems to infect other sites. Let's all just get back to loving one another in that...

When I sailed out the door this morning, rushing off to campus to get my paper printed by the time I had to turn it in after I managed to finish writing it a whole hour before it was due, I only took an apple with me and I'm hitting the point of the afternoon where I'm so hungry it's becoming distracting. I'm trying to think of what to say about TV or Halloween or anything and all I can focus on is when I'm going to get home and what I have in my kitchen. Very poor planning on my part, but I think that's included somewhere in the list of graduate student stereotypes that I'm contractually obligated to adhere to, somewhere below "having ramen in the pantry at all times" but above "preferences in alcohol that you can't afford to buy." With that, here's your Thursday night TV:...

Tune in alert for the "Police Women of Dallas," on Tlc Thursday, Oct 28 at 9/8c. Tlc moves to the Big D in the latest installment of the hit franchise "Police Women of Dallas" - an eight-part series that follows five highly skilled female officers with the Dallas Police Department (Dpd) determined to make their city a safer place. Dallas is known for its flat terrain, Republicans, deep pockets of moolah, relaxed lifestyle, art, cuisine and football. But behind the cowboy boots and Tex-Mex food, like all cites, Dallas struggles with a wide array of crimes. From robberies to homicides, gang violence to domestic violence, these female cops must work one of the grittiest beats in the...

I had this entire column written and between finishing it and saving it my computer froze and it all disappeared. I'd be more upset, but it wasn't that super good in the first place, but I'm not going to reproduce the whole thing from memory because frankly that's a waste of everyone's time. Anyway, lesson learned, save frequently, all that good stuff. Here's Thursday night's TV:
8:00pm: "Big Brother" on CBS
9:00pm: "Burn Notice" on USA
"Mary Knows Best" on SyFy
"Police Women of Memphis" on Tlc. I don't understand why it has to be "Police Women" but I guess a whole sale knockoff of "Cops" is just a bit too on the nose for Tlc. Because they're so known for their original programming and all.
"Project Runway" on Lifetime. Eighth season premiere.
"Rookie Blue" on ABC
Smoking Gun Presents: World's Dumbest Tourists 2" on TruTV

As Trish mentioned earlier this week, Tlc's new season of their series, Police Women, will feature an out officer with the Memphis Police Department named Virginia Awkward. Yes, she knows her name is funny. She also knows how to take down a perp and wears a gun, so if you want to make a wisecrack, make it a good one.
Actually, Virginia can be as good-natured as she can be tough as nails. She even understands that suspects will do an occasional double take — when responding to a call, she says, "Before they even get into it, they see my name tag, it's like, 'Are you serious? Your name is Awkward?'"
I don't know. She seems more like the opposite of awkward, if you ask me.

What's TLC's solution to its "Jon & Kate" implosion?
Prohibited from showing Kate Gosselin parenting her eight "Jon & Kate" co-stars as originally planned, the network will announce a new series at its upfront presentation in New York on Thursday where Gosselin travels the country to assist other families.
The series, called "Twist of Kate," will debut in the third quarter.
"In each episode, she'll walk a mile in someone else's shoes -- meeting real families in the middle of their own extraordinary challenges," said the network in a statement. "She'll try out their jobs ... see how their home life runs ... see what they're up against ... and find out what they do to let off steam. As Kate gets to know them she'll roll up her sleeves and see what she can do to help."
Tlc also announced two more large-family series -- "Quintuplet Surprise" and "Carpio Family Project." The former with...

The week is almost over and no one is happier about that than me. I'm absolutely exhausted and am looking forward to having a couple days where I don't actually have to get out of bed if I don't want to. And February is almost over, which is nothing but good news because of all the months out there I generally consider February the most useless one (no offense to those of you with February birthdays). And can I just say that this week has been a terrible week on television? It's like everyone who doesn't have the Olympics just gave up. I can't wait till I can spend a leisurely Saturday afternoon watching the latest episode of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" on Netflix because it'll be the most entertaining thing I'll see all week. Here's Thursday night:
8:00 p.m.: "American Idol: First Results Show" on Fox. New episode on a special night.
