Although a continuation of [Scully's New Year's Eve (1978)], not all of the previous performers returned for the series, with most of the roles either new or recast. In fact, only Andrew Schofield (Scully) and Ray Kingsley (Mooey) reprised their roles.
The production schedule for the series was previewed in The Stage magazine (29th September 1983) and projected to begin on October 10th that year, with a completion by "late December".
The series was broadcast in an 8pm Monday night slot on Channel 4.
Andrew Schofield (Scully) said that the sound of the crowd chanting the character's name during the title sequence wasn't overdubbed, but actually happened on location, completely unprompted. "They all just started singing 'one Franny Scully, there's only one Franny Scully'."
