When it was announced that Molly Shannon would be returning to Studio 8H to host “Saturday Night Live” for the second time this weekend, many fans of the NBC sketch show expected a rather nostalgic episode. Shannon built up a large arsenal of beloved reoccurring characters during her original run as a cast member from 1995-2001, and her hosting gig had more to do with her legacy on the show than with her recent projects like “A Good Person” or “The Other Two.”
Shannon’s opening monologue mostly played things straight, as she plugged her memoir “Hello, Molly” and recalled advice that her father gave her to never give up in the face of adversity. That soon turned into a musical number, where various cast members showed up to tell Shannon about the problems that they currently face. The segment featured several high-profile cameos from her longtime comedy friends — including...

An iconic Disney character came out of the closet on Saturday Night Live, with a little help from Bowen Yang.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Disney this week, and, turns out, it was Jafar – played with juicy excess by Yang – who dealt the coup de grâce.

Houston, we have a problem: Molly's got a brain abnormality! In episode 2 of Extant, CBS's Steven Spielberg-produced drama that debuted July 9, Molly (Halle Berry) confides in her doctor, Sam (Camryn Manheim), that an alien doppelgänger of her dead boyfriend Marcus may have impregnated her in space during those 13 months away from home. Sam, however, thinks Molly may be hallucinating - a nasty side effect of a brain abnormality that also plagued former astronaut Harmon Kryger (Brad Beyer), the creepy ginger who's been stalking Molly and warning her to trust no one. Then again, Harmon does have a reason to seem paranoid.

Michael O'Neill, who's been so chillingly great during this season of "Bates Motel," is next going to be seen on CBS in "Extant," and the part of his character's daughter will be played by soon-to-be ex-"Grey's Anatomy" co-star Tessa Ferrer.
Per TV Guide, Ferrer (who is singer Debby Boone's daughter and also related to actors José, Miguel, and Rafael Ferrer) will recur as Katie Sparks, an over-achieving astronaut and the offspring of O'Neill's Alan Sparks, who serves as the director of the Isea.
Ferrer (pictured) currently plays Leah Murphy on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" but won't be returning next season so the timing couldn't be better for her transition from scrubs to spacesuit.
