To talk about Peter Cullen's voice acting career is to take a trip through the last five decades of mainstream U.S. animation. The man has lent his voice to so many noteworthy cartoon series that it boggles the mind, including "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo," "The Smurfs," "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends," "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Muppet Babies," "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers," and "Invincible." But one cannot even begin to do justice to his body of work without touching on the iconic character that he's voiced across multiple animated shows and feature films for nearly 40 years now. Truly, at this point, Cullen is all but synonymous with his onscreen counterpart: Eeyore.
After debuting as the Autobots' intrepid leader in "The Transformers" in 1984, Cullen took over voicing the most relatable resident of the Hundred Acre Wood from the late Ralph Wright (who voiced...

In 1984, a lot of laws about what was and wasn't allowed in children's TV programming began to loosen. Throughout the decade, more and more companies became incredibly brazen about including advertising content directly into their TV shows, transforming many shows into 30-minute commercials for toys. An '80s child would watch a show, knowing they could soon hound their parents to buy them the toy counterparts of their favorite characters. This branding became deeply insidious, and many children of the 1980s grew up with a deep and abiding nostalgia for their favorite toy ads. Artistry, character, writing, storytelling, and mythology were all distant, tertiary concerns during this era, and the bulk of animated shows from the '80s are deeply, deeply terrible as a result.

Lego builder Leandro a.k.a. len_d69 submitted this fan-made Voltron: Defender of the Universe Lego set to Lego Ideas and it got the 10,000 votes it needed to pushed into actual development! What's so awesome about this, is that each individual Lego built lion combines to form the giant robot Voltron!
I'm just surprised that Lego had never done this before! They needed a fan to come in design it and push it through. I don't buy a lot of Lego playsets but this is one that I'd definitly consider dropping some cash on. Here's a description of the set from the creator:
This is one of the popular super robots in the 80's. Based on the Japanese Anime "Beast King GoLion", it is made up of 5 robotic lions that combines to form Voltron.A childhood favorite, I tried to recreate Voltron as faithfully as I could in both lion and combined form.

The Hollywood Reporter has detailed an agreement between Verbinski's Blind Wink Productions and Microsoft to create a Kinect-based Xbla game for the 360 to be released sometime late in 2012 as well as additional content--whatever shape that may take--for other Microsoft devices. There's no detail on the duration of the exclusivity agreement or what additional devices, type of content this will entail. The beloved 80's animated series gets its first downloadable title. Does it shine bright like Voltron's sword, or does it make you feel like you've been cursed by the witch Haggar?
Fighting the evil King Zarkon's forces with... a twin-stick shooter?
The biggest surprise during my time with Voltron is that developer Behaviour Interactive went the twin-stick route for this beloved franchise--you know the drill, move with the left stick, shoot with the right. Actually, the biggest surprise is how much precious little time you'll spend as the iconic giant robot, but more on that in a bit. You'll spend the bulk of your time here commanding one of the five lions that make up the Voltron Force. Each one has unique stats in terms of health and attack power, etc. at the start menu with slight different attacks. I chose the Black Lion because even in the cartoon, objectively...

Thanks to our Voltron friends, we have two Voltron mask avatars for XBox to give away.
Here is what you will see when you go to download the game from the XBox Marketplace. The cost to download the game, when it becomes available on Wednesday, will be 800 Microsoft Points. More will be released on the launch date but why wait?
Voltron: Defender of the Universe, produced by Thq and Behaviour Interactive, will be a 1-5 player online co-op game. Players will be able fight as the individual lions in an overhead shooter style gameplay to then form Voltron to take on Robeasts in a fighter style combat.
How do you win one of these avatars? Easy. All you need to do is tell us which is your favorite Voltron Force pilot and why. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m., Thursday, December 1. The judgment of ComicMix‘s panel of experts will be final.

Relativity Media recently purchased distribution rights for the popular 80's property which includes working for a new animated series, video games and feature film. Premiering in 1984, Voltron: Defender of the Universe took licensed material from 3 Japanese shows and re-edited them with new scripts that reflected the sensibilities of American audiences, such as cutting down violence and cultural references. It featured five pilots who, on a space exploration mission, found a planet devastated by the evil King Zarkon. Finding ancient robotic lions that formed a gigantic robot when combined, the team learns the secrets of these new weapons in an intergalactic quest for justice. The original series spawned many sequels and spin-offs, including one in which the animation was completely 3D...

Back in the fall of 2009, we told you about the emergence of a live-action Voltron movie by Atlas Entertainmentbased on the 1980’s cartoon series . The project has been floundering in Hollywood’s “development-hell” for years with various wishful producers seeking to revive the robot defender of the universe.
After a tussle over the rights over the television property and a bidding war between Relativity Media and Atlas Entertainment, the dust has finally settled to land the project to be developed by both Relativity and Atlas. Atlas’ Charles Roven (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight) and Richard Suckle (The International) and Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter (Voltron Force, Wanted) will produce the project. Ted Koplar (Voltron Force) of World Event Productions, who sold the feature film rights, will executive produce. Not even a bidding war can take down the ‘Defender of the Universe’ as the live-action version of Voltron gets back on track with Relativity Media and Atlas Entertainment.
It looked like Voltron would finally be making it to the big screen way back when the concept art first appeared, but dollars and cents stalled the big screen adaptation of the 1984 animated series, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, until Atlas and Relativity stepped in and optioned the film rights. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have been tapped to provide the script.
Just in case you’re a Voltron noob, the film is being based on Lion Force Voltron, the elite battle team that operates high-tech robotic lions that are capable of forming the giant mega-weapon know as Voltron, and not on the Vehicle Voltron team, which was never my favorite anyway.

Five heroes, five lions, one oversize robot, one blazing sword, that’s the proven formula that’s worked out pretty well for Voltron fans since 1984. Now Relativity Media and Atlas Entertainment are both trying to restart passion for the series making a live–action feature based on the popular animated Voltron: Defender of the Universe series.
If you mistook Voltron for the Power Rangers Samurai MegaZord or maybe Transformers, you are not alone. Therefore, I have included the brief press release to refresh your memory:
Five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of a battalion of ultra-high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as ‘Voltron.’
The live-action adaptation is being scribed by Thomas Dean Donnelly (Conan the Barbarian) and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara). Relativity studio has optioned the feature film rights from World Event Productions.

Are robots the new vampires? It seems that way with the new glut of machine-powered superheroes, and adding further fuel to that fire is Relativity Media announcing during their Comic-Con panel that they have acquired the rights to the fan-favorite '80s cartoon, "Voltron: Defender of the Universe."
A "Voltron" big-screen adaptation has been bouncing around Hollywood for years, attracting different owners and most recently getting a script from frequent geek screenwriter Justin Marks (who also penned producer Joel Singer's once-promising He-Man reboot). The new project will apparently jettison existing scripts though in favor of one written by Thomas Dean Donnelly ("Conan the Barbarian") and Joshua Oppenheimer ("Sahara"), who will undoubtedly bring their own stamp to the sci-fi franchise.

It’s been known for quite some time that a movie adaptation of the 80s cartoon classic Voltron has been in the works. Although Voltron has finally found a home, there hasn’t been too many updates about its progression.
Relativity Media’s President of Worldwide Production Tucker Tooley announced today the studio has optioned the feature film rights for Voltron from World Event Productions, and will adapt the live-action big screen version from the 1984 cult-classic animated series “Voltron: Defender of the Universe.” The project was brought to Relativity through their deal with Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, whose company will shepherd the project.
If your unfamiliar with the cartoon classic, Voltron is about a group of young warriors chosen to defend the universe. These five warriors pilot lion like machines each possessing their own unqiue elemental property. But when combined together they form a powerful force called Voltron.

Michael Bay may be done with giant robots, but the rest of Hollywood isn’t. THR reports that Relativity Media has optioned the rights to turn the anime series Voltron: Defender of the Universe into a live-action movie. For those who have never seen the show before, it revolves around five pilots who control Robot Lions, ultra powerful robots that when joined together form the mighty Voltron, who one assumes defends the universe.

Relativity Media, the company behind such upcoming movies as Immortals and The Raven just informed us they.re teaming up with Atlas Entertainment to bring Voltron to the big screen. The original show, based on a series of Japanese anime properties, was big in kid.s programming back in 1984. It involved a team of five young warriors who drive robot lions which can connect together to form one giant, humanoid, fighting robot named .Voltron.. Remember Power Rangers? It.s basically that except set in a dystopian future.
