This article contains light spoilers for the first three episodes of Royal Crackers.
Dysfunctional families are par for the course in adult animated series and Adult Swim‘s latest comedy, Royal Crackers, goes for broke when it comes to a self-interested and disillusioned family of one-time one-percenters with delusions of grandeur. Bakersfield, California is the home of the Hornsby clan, cracker magnates who are desperate to stay relevant in the face of major changes within the Royal Crackers company, some of which this fractured family may not survive through.
As Royal Crackers’ premiere looms close, the show’s creator and executive producer, Jason Ruiz and Seth Cohen, get candid on finding the humanity in these wild characters, indulging in more stylized genre experiments, and The Sopranos’ unexpected influence on the series.
Den Of Geek: The marketing for Royal Crackers has kind of embraced this riff on Succession, but it’s really its own beast.

The summer of 2020 looks to go down in the history books as the time Netflix truly established their dominance over the fantasy genre, with the streaming service releasing a steady stream of both movies and TV shows that have taken over their most-watched list and generated plenty of buzz in the process.
The Old Guard is already one of their ten most popular movies ever and is projected to rack up 72 million streams in its first four weeks of being available, while Warrior Nun has reportedly already been renewed after turning out to be a huge success. Meanwhile, the highly-anticipated second season of The Umbrella Academy arrives in a matter of days to add the final exclamation point, but Cursed isn’t showing any signs of falling out of favor anytime soon, and is still the most-viewed scripted TV show on Netflix.

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are two larger-than-life figures who carry diametric mystiques. Gibbs is the Rust Belt hero, the world-beating outlaw who bathes with snakes and has been serving impregnable street raps since 2009. Madlib is much more elusive but no less prolific—the perpetually shroomed-out producer who spends his days mining obscure samples from his vast record library that, as of 2014, weighed an estimated four tons. He is the closest thing in hip hop to an actual wizard.
Piñata, Gibbs and Madlib’s 2014 joint album, proved them to be a match made in heaven.

Actor Jeffrey Weissman got his big break auditioning for, but not being cast in War Games. Instead he caught the attention of a big agent and was soon cast in the Twilight Zone movie in the, "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet" story, with John Lithgow. He did small parts in Johnny Dangerously, Crackers with Sean Penn and Donald Sutherland and a few guest star spots on TV series like Dallas and Scarecrow and Mrs. King before landing a co-starring role opposite Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider. In a recent interview he told us, "It was a gas being on location with Clint. He was a real gentleman and did everything first class. It was a nice event."
After that came Back to the Future II. He played George McFly, Marty’s father, in the two sequels. He recalled what struck him most about making the film was the set decoration.

Italian film director and screenwriter who established a new school of social-realist comedy
The Italian film director Mario Monicelli has died aged 95, after jumping out of a hospital window in Rome. Monicelli directed more than 60 films, most of which he co-wrote. He was best known for I Soliti Ignoti (Big Deal On Madonna Street, 1958), which was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign-language film. It was remade by Louis Malle as Crackers (1984) and turned into a Broadway musical, Big Deal, by Bob Fosse in 1986. Monicelli's original is one of the most internationally admired Italian comedies of the past 60 years.
Born in Viareggio, Tuscany, Monicelli was the son of a journalist, Tomaso Monicelli, who founded one of the earliest Italian film magazines. Tomaso killed himself in 1946. Mario studied at the universities of Milan and Pisa and took an early interest in films. With the future publisher Alberto Mondadori, he collaborated...

His first try might have ended in a slap fight with Sean Penn, but that’s not going to stop Wyclef Jean from running for President of Haiti in 2015. “I’m not a quitter, and the most important thing for me is, I think, to move Haiti forward. It’s gonna take modern thinking” Jean told Hip-Hop Weekly, “So, if all goes well, I plan to definitely come back in five years and give it another shot.” Jean then tore the plastic wrap off his copy of How To Become The President Of Haiti For Dummies and turned to the first page. Wyclef lost the chance to run for the 2010 presidential election earlier this year after the electoral commission realized being the spokeperson for Ritz Crackers does not actually qualify someone to lead a country. We’re not going to lie; Jean’s recent hospitalization for stress doesn’t exactly...
