For over a decade, Roger Moore had the task of living up to everything that Sean Connery had put in place as 007. And while some will defend Moore forever, we can’t forget the clown costumes, slide whistles, gondola chases, and so much more that pushed James Bond into an uncharted level of ridiculousness. Perhaps all of this could have been prevented had Timothy Dalton not been so green, turning down On Her Majesty’s Secret Service because he was in his mid-20s. That’s all hypothetical, of course, but Timothy Dalton would go on to reinvent James Bond in a way that may not have sat with contemporary audiences but marked a true challenge for what it meant to carry the torch. Dalton played 007 just twice; and with that, we’d challenge you to name just as many worthwhile post-Bond movies from the underappreciated actor (who we’re...

Show-stopping stunts have long been as important to the James Bond movie formula as gadgets, villains, and the appropriate amount of workday martinis. While the early Connery movies didn’t emphasize such stunts quite as much as future installments did, audiences soon came to expect in the 1970s to see Bond put his life on the line in some incredible stunt sequence for queen, country, and our entertainment.
While other action franchises have certainly raised the bar for film stunts since then, there is a charm to the best Bond stunts that can’t easily be replicated. They’re conceptually creative, they’re often done practically, and they have gradually helped shape the considerable mythology of the world’s greatest spy. They’re as stylish as an expertly tailored suit and as dangerous as an assignment from M. These are the best James Bond stunts ever.

Alec Mills, a camera operator on five James Bond films before becoming a cinematographer on the Timothy Dalton-starring The Living Daylights and License to Kill, has died at 91.
Mills died on Monday, his son, Simon Mills, announced. He was living in an assisted-care home in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England, he said.
Mills operated a camera on Peter Hunt’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), Lewis Gilbert’s The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979) and John Glen’s For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Octopussy (1983).
Glen then tapped him as his director of photography on The Living Daylights (1987) and License to Kill (1989), both starring Timothy Dalton.
Mills also was a camera operator on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1969), Roman Polanski’s Tragedy of Macbeth (1971), Gulliver’s Travels (1973), John Guillermin’s Death on the Nile (1978) and Richard Marquand’s Eye of the Needle (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1982).

There are loads of tantalizing Hollywood casting what-ifs. Tom Selleck would've played Indiana Jones had he not been previously committed to CBS' "Magnum P.I." Pierce Brosnan was set to succeed Roger Moore as James Bond after "A View to a Kill," but NBC, realizing the star of their just-canceled "Remington Steele," was a hot commodity, resurrected the show for a fifth season (after which it was canceled again). And there's always poor Dougray Scott, who had to give up the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men" when "Mission: Impossible II" went over schedule.
These were franchise- and career-altering decisions. What would Harrison Ford have done after the conclusion of the "Star Wars" original trilogy in 1983? Would Brosnan have rejuvenated the flagging Bond series, thus averting the six-year retooling period between "License to Kill" and "GoldenEye?" Could Scott have connected with audiences as emphatically as Hugh Jackman did in the role of Logan?...

This article contains light spoilers for James Bond: 007 #1.
In the first pages of a new comic book series, a mafioso gathers his family and talks of revenge. Reeling with sorrow and anger at the murder of his son, the mafioso vows to destroy his child’s killer. As he talks, the mafioso praises the remaining members of his family, and artist Rapha Lobosco devotes a panel to each, letting the reader see their importance: his strapping sons, his beautiful daughters, his loving wife, and his elderly mother.
But just when the mafioso hits the climax of his speech, an interuption forces him to turn around. There, he sees all but his mother dead, blood pouring from a bullet hole placed precisely in their foreheads. After killing the mafioso, the gunman turns to the elderly mother and says, “Better safe than sorry.” The sequence ends with a splash page showing...

"The Amityville Horror" is one of the definitive haunted house films, a classic tale about paranormal activity terrorizing a suburban family with swarming flies, mysterious voices, and sudden illness. Even the windows resemble ominous eyes peering down on the unsuspecting victims. The movie taps into the religious undertones popularized by other 1970s releases such as "The Exorcist" and "The Omen," suggesting there is a Satanic force at work that must be destroyed.
Eventually, the new owners George and Kathy Lutz discover the horrifying history of their new home: Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his entire family with a rifle one year prior, a Satanic worshipper named John Ketchum once lived on the land, and the house itself was built on a Shinnecock burial ground.
Despite receiving mixed reviews for elements like the cheesy portrayal of a possessed George, "The Amityville Horror" ended up having a significant impact on the horror genre.

Martin Campbell's "GoldenEye" is one of the most important films in the history of the James Bond franchise. The series had been mothballed for six years after the box office disappointment of "License to Kill" in 1989, which brought the two-film Timothy Dalton era to a premature halt. While producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson searched for Dalton's successor, the world went through a rapid metamorphosis. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, precipitating the end of the Warsaw Pact and the breakup of the Soviet Union. The Cold War was over. The West won. Where did Bond fit in this new world order?
Old hostilities die hard, especially in spy fiction, so it's no surprise that screenwriters Jeffrey Caine and Bruce Feirstein (working from a story by Michael France) concocted a Russia-centric adventure revolving around an electromagnetic weapon that would plunge the Cold War victors into a global financial crisis.

Terence Young's 1963 triumph "From Russia with Love" was the James Bond series' first sequel, and, 60 years later, it's still considered by many 007 aficionados to be one of franchise's finest installments. It's a brisk, surprisingly brutal film. The gadgetry popularized by 1964's "Goldfinger" (and launched well over the top by 1965's "Thunderball") is kept to a sensible minimum; for the most part, this is a revenge film in which our licensed-to-kill protagonist is lured into an elaborate defection plot designed to knock him off for having killed Spectre's Dr. No in the first movie. Narratively, it's as small potatoes as the mostly maligned "Casino Royale" follow-up "Quantum of Solace" (a revenge film in the other direction), but, at the time, it had the advantage of working within an unformed universe.

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

The world was a drastically different place when the James Bond film series kicked off in 1962 with "Dr. No." Gender roles were still set in stone. It was a man's world, one in which women were expected to keep a clean and orderly house while the breadwinner put in his forty hours a week. Should a woman seek employment outside of the home, it's because they were single and could type or file up a storm.
In movies, unmarried women tended to be tragic figures or femme fatales (when they weren't queens or goddesses). If they weren't desperate for a good man to make them whole, they were hellbent on compromising and destroying one. Or they were tools of wealthy, nefarious men, like the Bond girls. Beginning with Ursula Andress' Honey Ryder, the Bond girl was typically a femme fatale who helplessly fell for the British secret agent's rough charm...

Fans have been celebrating the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it Here), with Universal Pictures marking the anniversary by giving the film a 4K Uhd release last month. But now the anniversary has a sadness to it, as it has been announced that actor Marc Gilpin, who played little Sean Brody in the movie, has passed away at the too-young age of 56, following a long battle with glioblastoma. His passing has been confirmed by his sister Peri Gilpin, an actress best known for playing the character Roz on the sitcom Frasier.
Marc Gilpin was born in Austin, Texas on September 26, 1966. His acting career started soon after, as he landed a role in a nationwide commercial for Exxon when he was just four years old. From there he appeared in an episode of the TV series Thunder and was cast in the title role of the family-friendly sci-fi comedy Where’s Willie?...

Marc Gilpin, the child actor who played a son of Roy Scheider’s Police Chief Martin Brody in 1978’s Jaws 2, died Saturday in Dallas of the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma. He was 56.
His death was announced by his sister, the Frasier actor Peri Gilpin.
Marc Gilpin, born in Austin, Texas, had already appeared in commercials, the Saturday morning NBC series Thunder (1977) and, in 1978, the film Where’s Willy? when, at 11, he was cast in director Jeannot Szwarc’s sequel to Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster Jaws. While Scheider and Lorraine Gary reprised their roles as Brody and wife Ellen, the young actors playing the characters’ two sons in the original film, Chris Rebello and Jay Mello, had outgrown the roles and were replaced by Mark Gruner (as elder son Mike) and Gilpin (as Sean).

Recently, Nolan while talking of his direction methods and what inspires him, shared that directing a James Bond film would be a “privilege”.
Speaking at the Happy Sad Podcast with host Josh Horowitz, he said “To make any film, I think you have to have the right attitude. Like it has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really burrow into something within the appropriate constraints because you would never want to take on something like that and do it wrong.”

Every time there’s a changing of the guard in the James Bond franchise, there’s controversy. Who would make the best Bond? How would he compare to Sean Connery or any of the other Bonds we’ve seen? Does he have the right look? The right sound? The right charm? The right fighting skills? That being said, the second-guessing doesn’t end once a choice has been made, either. As the world awaits an announcement as to who will succeed Daniel Craig as Agent 007, we think back to Timothy Dalton, who played Bond in two 1980s films: The Living Daylights and License to Kill. While he was in the role, he told us he understood that the public would always be divided, especially since the James Bond character is such an iconic one. (Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
There was a period when the "James Bond" franchise was dead for a few years, following Timothy Dalton's somewhat disappointing (commercially speaking) two-film run in the late '80s. After 1989's "License to Kill," the series was in need of reinvention, which would eventually come in a big way with 1995's massive hit "GoldenEye." Pierce Brosnan managed to bring Bond to the '90s in style, with the huge help of ace director Martin Campbell behind the camera. 007 was back in a big, bad way. But as is so often the case with a big, long-running series such as this, attention immediately turns to what comes next.
In this case, the answer to that question came in December 1997 in the form of "Tomorrow Never Dies,...

The Taylor Sheridan series "1923" was just renewed by Paramount+ for a second season, bringing us the further adventures of the Dutton family. We began following their journey in "Yellowstone," which is set in the present day, then got the prequel series "1883." In "1923" we meet Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford), the brother of James Dutton (Tim McGraw) from "1883" who has since passed. Jacob and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren) are running the Yellowstone ranch in his place. They are battling it out with sheepherders who have enlisted mining tycoon Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) to try to take the land from the Duttons.
The series shoots in Montana, which is not the easiest environment to work in. Sheridan famously puts his actors through cowboy camp training, and there is a lot of physical work from riding to fight scenes. Not only that, but the weather is pretty brutal. It's something Dalton...

The casino has been a major location for films since the advent of cinema. It has been used as a setting due to its familiarity, but also because it is well known for being a place of excitement. It has served as not only a backdrop but as the main theme for movies like Martin Scorsese’s Casino in 1995 and Lewis Milestone’s Ocean’s 11 in 1960, while it has been used as a minor setting in countless pictures from Peter Berg’s Very Bad Things in 1998 to Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther in 2018. It has even become a long-running cliché in the Eon Productions Bond films that James Bond will enter a casino and play a table game at some point.
Casino scenes have often been enjoyable and have provided excitement for the viewer, but just how realistic are they?

Benicio Del Toro celebrates his 52nd birthday on February 19, 2019. The actor has built a prominent career in film and on television, earning an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Traffic.” This stellar career trajectory may not have been predicted when he began his career with his first film role. Everyone has to start somewhere and for Del Toro it came in “Big Top Pee-Wee,” in which he played Duke the dog-faced boy opposite Pee-Wee Herman.
Born in Puerto Rico to a family of lawyers, Del Toro thought he too would pursue that type of career and he started college as a business major at the University of California, San Diego. There he found his true passion was in acting, so he left school to pursue it full time.

I’ve got an interesting video here for you to watch that breaks down five scenes from movies that were changed for the most bizarre reasons. The video comes from Looper and came with the following note:
Many of the biggest movies in history have gone through extensive changes before they hit the silver screen. Usually, the reasons for these changes are easy enough to understand, but sometimes things can take a turn for the truly bizarre.
The movies mentioned on the video include License To Kill, Red Dawn, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Eraser, and The Shining. You may already know about some of these things, but there’s a chance you might not. The only way to find out is to watch the video!

It's the invisible car one! We take a close look at Pierce Brosnan's final outing as James Bond, Die Another Day...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This is a bit harsh: Die Another Day doesn’t deserve the opprobrium heaped upon it. Not to say it’s good; just not utterly irredeemable. It's practically a curse for some, and now a contender for Worst James Bond Movie Ever.
Perhaps its greatest problem is tonal. For a while it seems we might get the hard-hitting Bond that Pierce Brosnan so deserved; then suddenly we’re in an ice palace and Bond’s borrowed a car from Harry Potter. The second half of the film is utterly ludicrous but fun if you go along for the (invisible) ride. Alas, the first half promised something far more intriguing. It wouldn’t be completely accurate to say...

Christmas Jones? Robert Carlyle not feeling pain? Welcome to the 3rd Pierce Brosnan James Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This one is a real curate’s egg (and not the Faberge' type). A daring twist on the formula or a tired limp into the new millennium? The case for the prosecution: mostly dull action sequences, a Bond girl memorable for the wrong reasons, an underpowered climax and a plot thinner than a dieting ghost. The case for the defense: a unique duo of villains, a welcome abundance of M, some really interesting ideas, and perhaps the most affecting of all James Bond’s kills.
The Villains: A couple to give a relationship counselor nightmares. He’s a slowly dying terrorist who can’t feel pain, she’s a seductive oil heiress with an overwhelming urge to nuke Istanbul.

Martin Campbell's Goldeneye rebooted James Bond, introduced Pierce Brosnan in the role, and proved to be a major hit.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Goldeneye: a mostly triumphant return for James Bond after an extended absence. Far from perfect but its flaws are overwhelmed by the sheer brio of the whole thing, especially once former Bond bestie Alec Trevelyan finally shows up. The reliance on gadgets is just about right (the exploding pen got a Skyfall namecheck) and the action is reliably entertaining. At least provided you can enjoy a tank chase through Moscow - which this writer certainly can.
Probably the most loved of the Pierce Brosnan Bonds, although arguably Tomorrow Never Dies is a more coherent film. But this one had a lot riding on it. After six years it was do or die - and safe to say Goldeneye does,...

Excellent news here. Showtime‘s upcoming Victorian horror series, Penny Dreadful, has been given a premiere date: Sunday, May 11 at 10/9c. Not sure what Penny Dreadful is? Not to worry. We have the first three Production Blogs here to explain it all, along with some increasingly creepy TV spots, after the synopsis:
In Penny Dreadful, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, License to Kill) and Eva Green (Casino Royale). Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger) and Danny Sapani (The Bill) also star. Penny Dreadful is a frightening psychosexual thriller created,...
