This post contains spoilers for "Loki" season 2.
"Deadpool 3" — or rather, "Deadpool & Wolverine" — dropped its first trailer during Super Bowl Lviii and confirmed that Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) will be journeying deep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, on the ground first tread by the Disney+ series "Loki," which wrapped its second season last year.
When Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox went through, the expectation (at least for most folks) was that the old "X-Men" films would be wiped away in a blank slate reboot. However, the MCU has since been pulling from those previously unconnected X-movies; clearly, Marvel Studios would prefer to bank on audience familiarity with Fox's X-Men. Patrick Stewart showed up in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" as Professor X and Kelsey Grammer cameoed as Beast in the post-credit scene of "The Marvels." Whether or not these were the original characters or unique...

If you look at it from Sylvie’s point of view, the first season of Marvel’s Loki was a total success story. The vengeful variant of Asgard’s God Of Mischief crashed into proceedings with a specific agenda in mind: to not only find whoever was running the Time Variance Authority, but to strike them dead, overthrow the notion of the Sacred Timeline, and free the multiverse. Check, check, check. By the end of the Season 1 finale, Sylvie had ticked everything off her to-do list – even if it left, well, the entire notion of reality hanging in the balance. She is, in her own way, a complete inspiration.
Heading into Season 2, then, it was Loki who scrambled to piece the very fabric of existence back together while Sylvie tried to enjoy the fruits of her labour – or, the McDonald’s burger of her labour. It was a journey that took in more time travel,...

Major Spoilers for Loki season 2 finale. Well over a decade after Loki’s introduction in Thor, the Asgardian’s tale has come to an end… or has it?
The recent finale of Loki found the character destroying the Time Loom and rejuvenating the dying branches into a new structure resembling Yggdrasil. He then accepts his role as God Loki, overseeing all the branches in solitude at the end of time. Loki head writer Eric Martin spoke with Deadline about the character’s new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the road it took to bring him there.
“Going into Season 2, it felt like an opportunity to bring gravity to the series to step up a level, because we marched up the line and got to the man behind the curtain and the stakes got extremely high at the end of the season. Let’s keep climbing. Let’s keep building that,...

Loki season two continues to drop Easter eggs left, right, and center, but in its second episode the show happily climbs aboard Marvel’s “running gag” bandwagon by throwing in a visual reference to one of the MCU’s most divisive movies: Eternals.
During the opening scene of this week’s Loki, the God of Mischief and his Tva analyst Bff Mobius (Owen Wilson) travel back in time to capture the slimy Brad Wolfe (Rafael Casal), a Tva hunter and variant who has absconded to a past point on the Sacred Timeline to build the life he never got to have as a 70s movie star.
At the premiere of his latest film, Zaniac, Loki and Mobius roll up to the red carpet, but not before passing a range of posters advertizing upcoming feature presentations, one of which happens to star Kumail Nanjiani’s Bollywood actor Kingo from Eternals!

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Loki, Season 2, Episode 2.] The new season of Loki continues to keep the clock ticking as the titular God of Mischief (played by Tom Hiddleston) and Tva agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) attempt to manage the sacred timeline’s extreme branching. Setting out to find Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), the duo headed to 1970s London in order to confront Hunter X-5 (Rafael Casal), who followed General Dox (Kate Dickie) in the Season 2 premiere. Believing he’ll have answers about Sylvie’s whereabouts, Mobius and Loki bring the rogue hunter back to the Tva for questioning, placing him in a holding cell. This article contains spoilers for the Loki finale.
So, we now officially know that Marvel’s Loki will be back for Season 2, but this week it finished up its first season on Disney+ by blowing up the MCU as we know it and re-establishing the Marvel multiverse, which once existed but was actually at war with itself. Apparently, Miss Minutes was at least telling the truth in that part of her Tva orientation video.
In the Loki finale, “For All Time. Always.”, we met the villainous He Who Remains aka Kang aka Pick Any Card (Jonathan Majors), who first discovered that the multiverse existed as a scientist on Earth and decided that he had the answer to all of the multiverse’s territorial woes in the future: construct a Sacred Timeline policed by the Time Variance Authority to make sure the multiverse wouldn’t happen and our universe could continue...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of the first five episodes of Disney+’s Loki, & maybe the finale. Maybe.

As always with almost any project from the Kevin Feige run studio, that ride could continue, at least in some form or another. Certainly, the June 9 ‘Glorious Purpose’ premiere of the Michael Waldron penned and Kate Herron directed Loki proved to be the Disney+ and the MCU’s biggest small screen success so far. Eric Church announced his plans for the three-album release Heart & Soul last week. On Friday, he debuted the lead-off track from Heart, a windows-down love song titled “Heart on Fire.”
Written solo by Church, “Heart on Fire” is more FM classic rock than Nashville country, with hints of Lonesome Jubilee-era John Mellencamp. “I’m soaking my soul in gas and setting my heart on fire,” Church sings, as propulsive tinkling piano and Joanna Cotten, Church’s longtime backing vocalist, add a loose bar-band vibe. Looking back over the beloved stars we lost in the past year is always emotional, and this year has been especially devastating, given how many members of the entertainment community died due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic hit the music community especially hard, but television and film performers, as well as stage actors and below-the-line workers were also affected. Singer-songwriter John Prine, record producer Hal Willner and “Nashville” actor Allen Garfield all died of coronavirus on April 7. Broadway actor Nick Cordero died on July 5 after a four-month battle with the disease.
Adam Schlesinger, a composer and co-founder of Fountains of Wayne, died on April 1 at 52. Charley Pride, remembered as country music’s first Black superstar, died on Dec. 12 of coronavirus complications.

Over the last six months, the conversation surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe has focused largely on the sweeping changes to the Phase Four release schedule. Black Widow has now been delayed by an entire year, leading to a second domino effect impacting the studio’s upcoming lineup, while WandaVision leapfrogged The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to become the first Disney Plus exclusive.
Lost in the shuffle somewhat during all of this was Loki, with Tom Hiddleston’s return as the God of Mischief also being shut down in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic, which would indicate a lengthy delay given that there’s been no official news of production resuming as of yet. There’s definitely plenty of footage in the can seeing as set photos had started making their way online and the Asgardian trickster was glimpsed in a Disney Plus promo spot, but outside of a time travel element,...

As an actress, Kelly Preston, who died Sunday at 57, was the soul of likability, and that’s no small thing. When she showed up in a movie, she lit it up; she also grounded it. (She had an earthly radiance.) Just think of the scene in “For Love of the Game” where she meets Kevin Costner’s aw-shucks baseball pitcher. Her rental car is stalled by the side of the road, and he stops to help her, all shaggy jockish gallantry. It’s a meet-cute moment, though the offhand way that Preston bristles at being rescued lends it a contemporary vivacity. Then, this being a traditional (and actually rather good) Hollywood movie, he melts her resistance. Just as she has already melted his. The audience melts too.

After starting out with romantic-interest characters, Preston evolved into a smart, subversive performer – most notably in the hit romcom Jerry Maguire
In some ways, Kelly Preston’s most famous role was the one outside the movies: as John Travolta’s wife. They married in 1991 and became probably the most devotedly uxorious Hollywood couple since Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. Preston and Travolta have a great sexy-funny dance routine together in the 1989 comedy The Experts, which is how they met. Preston put her acting career on hold for some of the 90s while she and Travolta started a family: having two sons, Jett and Benjamin, and a daughter, Ella. Heart-rendingly, Jett died of a seizure at the age of 16, a memory that adds a new layer of sadness to today’s news, and a new layer of sombre reflection about the great pressures that a woman in public life is expected to undergo.
