- During a stay at one of London's most elegant and venerable hotels Miss Marple uncovers a sinister undercurrent of corruption and murder beneath Bertram's stuffy veneer.
- Miss Jane Marple is staying at an elegant hotel from her childhood compliments of her nephew Raymond. Also there is international adventurer Bess Sedgwick and Lady Selena Hazy (Joan Greenwood in her next to last performance). A doorman working at the hotel turns out to be from Bess' past, and when he is killed, she is the prime suspect. But what does his murder have to do with the disappearance of an elderly vicar staying at the hotel, and a string of robberies over the last few months? Miss Marple must find out before the murderer strikes again!!!—Mike Hatchett <hatchetts13@webtv.net>
- While on a fortnight's holiday at Bertram's Hotel in London, where Miss Marple stayed as a young girl, she is faced with several puzzles. She meets an old acquaintance, Canon Pennyfather, who is also staying at the hotel but who vanishes after a planned trip to Lucerne. She also overhears Lady Sedgwick threaten the hotel doorman, whom she had obviously known at some point in her past. She also realizes that a young woman at the hotel is actually Lady Sedgwick's daughter, who she abandoned as a child. Miss Marple knows that all of the goings on, including the murder of a hotel employee, are intricately connected and works with Chief Inspector Fred Davy to find the solution.—garykmcd
