After their 2014 collaboration, The Simpsons and Family Guy reunited once again in a surprising move, for a mini crossover short for Disney+. Two of animation’s most beloved families came together for a side-splitting encounter that has left fans of both shows craving for more.
A still from The Simpsons
In the new Disney+ special, The Simpsons: May The 12th Be With You, the Simpsons family celebrated Star Wars in an unorthodox way, in which the Family Guy members arrive in Springfield. The unexpected crossover left viewers surprised; but more than anything, the episode’s cheeky dig at Disney is what stunned fans the most.

Fox is foreclosing on Housebroken.
The broadcast network has opted to cancel the animated comedy after a two-season run.
From creators Gabrielle Allan, Jennifer Crittenden and Clea DuVall and featuring a star-studded voice cast that included Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Maria Bamford, the second season of the comedy wrapped in August 2023.
The cancellation, however, is not a surprise considering that animated shows take longer to produce, and if Fox wanted to bring back Housebroken, production on a third season should have begun months ago.
Sources say the network was pleased with the show’s creative, but the lackluster ratings — season two averaged a mere 1 million viewers among the all-important advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic — gave Fox executives little choice but to cancel it.
Fox owns the show and produces it in-house via its deal with Bento Box Entertainment, the animation company behind Bob’s Burgers.

In that, Marge Simpson joins the moms of Disney+ on a special holiday outing that turns into an epic galactic adventure filled with heroes, villains and a surprising old friend.
Earlier this week, we sat down for a chat with The Simpsons writer, executive producer, and showrunner Al Jean, a name you'll have seen in the show's credits since 1989.
We'll bring you the full interview soon, but while we had Al on the line, we asked if there's been any talk of making a sequel to 2007's The Simpsons Movie. It was a box office hit which grossed $536.4 million worldwide and, with the franchise finding success on streaming, we wondered if a follow-up could even skip theaters and head to Disney+/Hulu instead.

No man is an island. As much as we hate to admit it, sometimes, no one gets anywhere in life without someone believing in them. The same is true for Hollywood. It takes the stars aligning (pun intended) for any success story for anyone to really make it, and especially to escape the shadow of how they may be initially perceived.
There may be no better example of that than Mr. Channing Tatum. He told GQ in 2009, “I got crazy lucky. Like, sometimes I think I won the lottery or something. I don’t really know how I got here. But I just keep moving forward, and it just keeps getting better and better.” Had the stars aligned differently, he could have been just an exotic dancer and never entered the public consciousness. Or just a model. Or just played a jock. Or just played generic romantic leads. Or just played generic action roles.

In the "Futurama" episode "A Fishful of Dollars", Fry (Billy West) remembers that he had 93 cents in his savings account when he was cryogenically frozen in 1999. After a thousand years of .25% interest, however, that amount had grown into a fortune of 4.3 billion dollars. Thankfully, inflation hasn't kept pace, and Fry is suddenly one of the wealthiest people on the planet. As anyone with abrupt access to a massive fortune might, Fry immediately begins to squander his riches on frivolous things. He buys the Mona Lisa merely so he may use it as a clay pigeon for skeet shooting. He tries to recreate a slobby, 20th-century apartment just as he remembered it. Most notably, he buys an ancient can of anchovies at auction, a valuable commodity indeed, given that anchovies went extinct many years before. The anchovies, still sealed, are guaranteed to be edible.
Unbeknownst to Fry, however, the anchovies are...

To choose emotion over action is how madness lies, or at least that's how it seems when it comes to television ratings in this Golden Age of procedurals.
It is rare to see a drama series deviate from by-the-numbers plots featuring by-the-book law enforcement characters because networks opt to make spinoffs within that formula rather than create new shows outside of it.
Someone apparently forgot to tell AMC because their deliciously non-formulaic series Interview With the Vampire is set to return for a highly-anticipated second season on May 12.
One could argue that this television series is a twice-over spinoff of Anne Rice's 1976 novel, the source material of the 1994 theatrical film starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst.
A better take might be to acknowledge how well this adaptation updates the original story to satisfy fans from both back in the day and now.
Rather than replicate the (perhaps overly) faithful-to-the-book film version,...

Tracy Morgan will star in a new Paramount+ comedy series that is set in the same world as the CBS show “The Neighborhood,” Variety has learned.
The half-hour multi-cam comedy is titled “Crutch.” Morgan stars in the series as Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, or Crutch to those who know him well. The character is described as “a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.”
“The Neighborhood” star and executive producer Cedric the Entertainer will also executive produce “Crutch,” with CBS Studios producing. Production will begin later this year.

"Star Trek: Voyager" entered its early stages of production in 1993. Meanwhile, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was filming its seventh and final season, and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" was working on its second. 1993 was an optimistic time in the U.S. The Gulf War had wrapped, Bill Clinton had been elected president, and the economy was booming. Yes, there were certainly still massive problems with the country, but for a brief span, it felt like the nation was at peace.
Of course, one only needs to look at the pop media of the 1990s to see how much angst there still was in the lurking in hearts of the people. '90s pop music often described the injustices of a racist police state, or how much people felt marginalized and dismissed. '90s media was also self-reflexive, pointing out that the old-world tropes and genres no longer worked. Deconstruction was necessary.

Recording artist Dua Lipa just released her latest album this past week, so there's no better time for the pop star to pull double duty as the host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live." Of course, her first time taking on the honor unfortunately comes after Ryan Gosling hosted a banger of an episode, packed with viral gems like the Beavis and Butt-Head sketch. But if your expectations were firmly in check, then you probably enjoyed this lukewarm, fairly amusing but not raucously hilarious episode of "SNL."
Thankfully, Dua Lipa turned out to be a solid host alongside her musical guest duties. She was game to jump into a variety of characters, didn't severely derail any sketches with subpar performances, and she was even willing to make jokes at her own expense during the monologue. However, the sketches were not exactly of the highest quality, and though Dua Lipa did her best,...

Groundskeeper Willie, the aggressively Scottish handyman who works for Springfield Elementary School on "The Simpsons," first appeared in the episode "Principal Charming", the one where Principal Skinner (Harry Shearer) attempted to seduce and marry Aunt Patty (Julie Kavner). Skinner and Patty bond over their mutual grumpiness, as he is a stern taskmaster with his students and she is a general misanthrope. Groundskeeper Willie doesn't play a major part in the story, except when Bart (Nancy Cartwright) breaks into his supply shed to steal grass killer. Skinner will pull a similar prank later in the episode. Willie has two lines in the episode: "You'll be back" and "I told you you'd be back."
Groundskeeper Willie (Dan Castellaneta) went on to appear in at least 53 additional episodes of the series, a number that will only continue to grow. He has been greased up by Lunchlady Doris (Doris Grau), fallen in love with his tractor,...

To quote Space Ghost himself, "I'll be dead long before you were born, and I'll be dead long before you'll be dead."
In 1994, producer Mike Lazzo donned a pith helmet, filled his arms with machetes, and trekked into the darkest corners of the bleak, terrifying Hanna-Barbera cartoon library. In the depths, he re-discovered a long-forgotten, one-season animated series from 1966 called "Space Ghost," a superhero show about a white-clad, cape-wearing starship captain who fought bud-like villains in the inky void of the cosmos. Space Ghost, voiced by Gary Owens, could pass through walls and oversaw a pair of sidekicks named Jan (Ginny Tyler) and Jace (Tim Matheson) as well as a chimp named Blip (Don Messick).
Like most of Hanna-Barbera's output, "Space Ghost" was strange and awful. 20 years later, reruns of shows like "Space Ghost" were increasingly enjoyed exclusively by college students under the influence of potent smokables. One would be...

Eiichiro Oda has always been one for foreshadowing with some of the most subtle details possible. One Piece being as long as it is, the foreshadowing is almost endless, taking fans back hundreds of episodes and chapters behind to discover how the mangaka gave away major details without paying any attention. While he is not the first to do so, the attention to detail brings about a certain sense of thrill when discovering how easily such things get missed.

While manga and anime are both ongoing at a steady pace, the other spectrum of the world is seeing the escalating feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. At first glance, the two of them have no relation whatsoever. Even if one scratches their heads until their hair falls off, it would make little to no sense. However, that is far from the case.

In 2023, generative artificial intelligence company Runway launched its AI Film Festival and received about 300 short-film submissions. A year later, the festival received over 3,000 and its 10 finalists premiered May 1 at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.
In the last year, AI also has become a major point of contention in Hollywood, a topic of several labor strikes, and multiple panicked headlines. Meanwhile, filmmakers are using it.
“Among my peers, the reality is there’s more people using it than they’d like to admit,” said Paul Trillo, an AI filmmaker who spoke on a panel discussion at Wednesday’s Aiff moderated by IndieWire editor in chief Dana Harris-Bridson. “I’ve even seen people that pretend to be anti-ai, and they are using Midjourney, ChatGPT, they try and take a stance, but I know people are using things.”

Years after the iconic TV series that cemented his status as a comedic legend, Jerry Seinfeld makes a triumphant comeback with a film that’s been prematurely criticized for its seemingly ludicrous storyline and perceived lack of depth. Yes, it’s silly, ridiculous, and shallow, but isn’t that the point? After all, “Barbie” was hailed over “Oppenheimer” by many because making people laugh is, in essence, a far more challenging task than repackaging drama and history.
Jerry Seinfeld proves yet again that he’s a master of comedy in this film that, at least to us, is anything but foolish. It’s a cinematic homage to the 60s, echoing the spirit of early seasons of The Simpsons with its relentless pace, agility, and irony.
This narrative unfolds a piece of American history focused on Pop-Tarts, which, much like Andy Warhol (note the uncanny resemblance), faced scorn from the era’s more traditional art critics.

Anthony Hopkins is taking on yet another iconic figure, this time from the world of music.
The stage and screen legend — a two-time Academy Award winner — is attached to star as George Frideric Handel in “The King of Covent Garden,” set during the period the famed opera composer worked on his choral masterpiece “Messiah.” Embankment Films has launched global pre-sales on the project, which is scheduled for a late fall 2025 release.
Andrew Levitas (“Minimata”) will direct “The King of Covent Garden” from a script by Tim Slover, with the filmmakers pitching the feature as “a powerfully majestic celebration of genius breaking all the rules to create an anthem inspiring the popular imagination of global audiences.” Dan Lupovitz (“Death Defying Acts,” “Simpatico”) and Kevan Van Thompson (“Ballerina,” “Jojo Rabbit”) will produce.

As SAG-AFTRA and other artists’ groups sound the alarm over the proliferation of AI deepfakes, studios are warning that too sweeping a proposed solution would violate the First Amendment.
The alternate views of a draft bill, called the No Fakes Act, were apparent in a Senate hearing on Tuesday, underscoring the thorny task at hand for lawmakers as they try to establish guardrails around AI technology.
The Motion Picture Association’s senior VP Ben Sheffner cautioned that “legislating in this area involves doing something that the First Amendment sharply limits: Regulating the content of speech.”
“It will take very careful drafting to accomplish the bill’s goals without inadvertently chilling or even prohibiting legitimate, Constitutionally protected uses of technology to enhance storytelling,” he said.
The draft Senate bill would give individuals a “digital replication right” to authorize the use of their image, voice or visual likeness. The right also would extend to the heirs,...

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) is the only zodiac sign that combines so many different traits that it seems absolutely impossible for one person to represent them all. But somehow we really do! And believe me when I say it, because I am a Taurus.
We are loyal, stubborn, sensual, extremely lazy or the most hardworking people out there. We can work without weekends for months but still be the ones who will somehow put their comfort before all. We love hedonistic lifestyle: literally, there are only few things that I enjoy more than going out for some fancy food.
Our preferences are all over the place, and that includes the TV shows we like. So here's a list of series every Taurus will find extremely bingeable.

Tom Felton has become an iconic figure through his work in the Harry Potter franchise. Playing a character that basically created the morally gray bad boy trope, his performance as Draco Malfoy is still influential. Delivering an excellent, yet incomplete arc, the part that he played in the eight films was significant, to say the least.
Felton in his iconic role of Draco Malfoy
Recently, the actor was asked about his favorite movie, and many would expect the answer to be the series he starred in for a huge chunk of his life. Unfortunately for fans, his answers were quite different. However, it did not stray too far away from his childhood and his iconic role.

Following the recent earthquakes in Japan, Shinkai’s Suzume no Tojimari anime film has managed to spark comparisons to the long-running American animated series, The Simpsons, which has gained cult following for its supposed ability to predict future events.
In the movie, Suzume, the titular character, begins her journey from Kyushu Island before visiting Ehime prefecture, as she chased a mischievous Daijin along with Souta, who had turned into a chair. Surprisingly, the 6.6 magnitude earthquake which hit Japan on April 17, 2024, stuck these two cities in same order of Suzume’s journey.
The peculiar coincidence was brought to light by a Twitter user who noticed a striking correlation between the seismic activity and the protagonist’s journey in the film. Posting two earthquake epicentral maps alongside screenshots from the movie, the user pointed out how the earthquakes occurred in the same order as the protagonist’s visit to the two cities.

In the age of streaming platforms, the balance of power in television has changed. Studio bosses started spending many times more money on TV series, cutting the number of episodes so that viewers could binge on the entire season, and investing no less, if not more, in advertising and PR than they would for a major motion picture.
Competition has increased, with popular shows replacing each other every month, sometimes even every week.
20 years ago everything was different – the competition was not so fierce, but it was also more difficult to attract an audience. Channel management had to keep viewers glued to their screens for 20-30 episodes to keep ratings from dropping. Some projects failed and were quickly canceled, while others stayed on for nine full seasons, like 24.

"Futurama" is no stranger to out-there stories, but sometimes, even this show needs an excuse to break the rules. That's where the anthology episodes come in: installments featuring three seven-or-so-minute-long themed segments where the status quo of the show doesn't apply.
"Futurama" inherited this formula from co-creator Matt Groening's previous series, "The Simpsons." However, "The Simpsons" developed a consistent formula for its anthology episodes: "Treehouse of Horror," where the Simpsons family (and friends) are put through parodies of horror/sci-fi stories (from "The Twilight Zone" to "Death Note"). "Treehouse of Horror" has been an annual "Simpsons" tradition since season 2, but the series isn't constrained by this. A handful of "Simpsons" episodes are anthologies of a different flavor (see "Simpsons Bible Stories" in season 10 or "Tales from the Public Domain" in season 13).
"Futurama," though? The sci-fi show doesn't have an equivalent tradition, perhaps as part of the show's efforts to not compete with "The Simpsons.

"The Simpsons" is a show home to innumerable colorful characters, including two space aliens named Kang and Kodos. How do aliens fit into the world of Springfield? Out of canon, of course! Created by Jay Kogen and Wallace Wolodarsky, the alien characters made their debut on the Halloween episode "Treehouse of Horror," and have appeared in every "Treehouse of Horror" episode since (with one exception: "Treehouse of Horror Xxi").
These episodes are understood to take place outside of the standard "Simpsons" continuity, which means aliens can pop up and have no effect on the show's "normal" world. While Kang and Kodos mostly get cameo appearances, they occasionally get their own major "Treehouse of Horror" plotlines, like the time they famously switched places with then-presidential candidates Bill Clinton and Bob Dole for "Treehouse of Horror VII." This is the episode that gave us the now-famous line, "Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

There are a number of TV series’ moments that are inscribed in cinematic history because they foretold some of the important events, which happened later, with some of them being likely to become true, while some others were totally unexpected.
Here are 5 TV series that predicted the future a little too accurately.
1. Star Trek (1966-1969) - Moon Landing
The original Star Trek is notorious for its predictions, the most remarkable of which is clearly the depiction of humanity's first landing on the moon. The 1967 episode titled Tomorrow Is Yesterday features a NASA broadcast reviewing the preparations for the game-changing moon landing. Two years later, the USA indeed became the first nation to set foot on the moon with the successful flight of Apollo 11.
2. Friends (1994 - 2004) - Facebook

"The Simpsons," now in its 500th season (okay, it's actually in season 35, but who's counting?) recently made headlines by killing off a character who has been with the show since the beginning. It's not the first time the classic animated sitcom has bumped off a character — Maude Flanders famously died, as did Bart's teacher Mrs. Krabappel, and both instances left poor Ned Flanders a widower. Bleeding Gums Murphy's death sent Lisa Simpson into depression. Dr. Marvin Monroe was said to have died, only to then return. Then, of course, there's the unfortunate Frank Grimes, who died after grabbing some electrical wiring in one of the show's most infamous (and best) episodes. In short, death is nothing new to Springfield — especially when you consider how long "The Simpsons" has been on the air. The characters may not exactly age, but time marches on.
However, this recent character death seems to be getting to people.

Larry Dalrymple is no more. The frequent regular of Moe’s Tavern was killed off in a recent episode of The Simpsons and fans are quite upset with the death of the long-time character.
While speaking with Variety, The Simpsons co-executive producer Tim Long apologizes for the death of Larry but offers an explanation for why they did it. “I’m sorry if some fans are upset, but we really wanted to use Larry’s death as a way to show that even the most peripheral people in our lives have dignity and worth, and that we really shouldn’t take anyone for granted,” Long said. “To paraphrase Shakespeare, nothing became Larry’s life like the way he left it: drunk, lonely, and with a butt full of sapphires.“
Long continued, “To me, it’s sort of fitting that some fans are taking Larry’s demise as hard as Homer and his friends do.

“The Simpsons” fans are still reacting to the surprise death of Moe’s Tavern regular Larry Dalrymple — aka Larry the Barfly — on Sunday’s episode, “Cremains of the Day.” And “The Simpsons” co-executive producer Tim Long has the explanation for why the show did it.
“I’m sorry if some fans are upset, but we really wanted to use Larry’s death as a way to show that even the most peripheral people in our lives have dignity and worth, and that we really shouldn’t take anyone for granted,” Long wrote in an email shared with Variety. “To paraphrase Shakespeare, nothing became Larry’s life like the way he left it: drunk, lonely, and with a butt full of sapphires.”

Despite the two-year hiatus following its cancellation after Season 3 (the show was renewed in 2005), Family Guy is still a major fixture on television. On January 31, 2024, the iconic animated sitcom celebrated its 25th anniversary, and after Season 22 wrapped on April 17, there's at least one more season to go. In addition, for more than 10 years, the show has aired on Hulu the day after new episodes air on Fox.
The era of traditional broadcasting is gradually being replaced by the dominance of streaming services, and these circumstances are also affecting Family Guy. More and more emphasis is being placed on Hulu, and if the show continues to be released in the coming years, it may eventually move from Fox to the Disney-owned streaming service.
As evidence of this, two new episodes were recently announced that will be released exclusively on Hulu.

Itchy and Scratchy are responsible for some of the most memorable episodes of "The Simpsons." Every fan will fondly remember "The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show" or Marge's crusade against the ultra-violent kids' cartoon in "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge." Indeed, "The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show" landed at number five on /Film's ranking of the best episodes of "The Simpsons," with "Itchy and Scratchy Land" coming in at number 15.
Clearly, then, "Itchy and Scratchy" was more than a parody of "Tom & Jerry"-style cartoons. Though the central joke was as simple as "What if Tom & Jerry was super violent," the show-within-a-show was often used as a way to extend the cultural satire that was so integral to "The Simpsons." Plus, as legendary writer John Schwartzwelder once told The New Yorker, it allowed the writers a break from the rules of the show overall:

In today’s world of instant gratification, The Simpsons is a glorious anomaly. For 35 years and over 750 episodes, the iconic animated sitcom has entered the living rooms of many generations of audiences and has still managed to remain relevant. Apart from the main characters becoming like family, the show has also stood out for its periphery roles that have gained cult status.

One of these characters who has appeared since the inception of the show in 1989 is Larry ‘The Barfly’ Dalrymple. While he has mostly been a fly-on-the-wall personality, he endeared himself to hardcore fans of the show. Now, after almost three and a half decades, Larry The Barfly is officially dead. Executive producer Tim Long responded to the depressed reactions from fans and explained why this had to happen.

His name is…or, rather, was, Larry Dalrymple. He was not mentioned very much on The Simpsons, but he was a longtime patron of Moe’s Tavern, drinking his life away and earning the nickname “The Barfly.”
Through 35 years, he held down a stool at Moe’s. And now, he’s gone, and fans of The Simpsons can’t bear the loss.
Social media is in deep mourning for the animated Larry, whose demise was revealed in the latest episode of The Simpsons. He dropped dead in Cremains of the Day, the season 35 episode that aired this past Sunday.
Tim Long, a co-executive producer, said that the creative team of the show intended to shock and awe viewers. Talking with TMZ, he said that while he was sorry if the plot point upset fans, it points out how beloved the show is.
