Mickey Rooney, Hollywood’s first teen star and the all-around talent whose career spanned for over 80-years died Sunday at age 93. He leaves behind a legacy of work including silent comedies, Shakespeare, Judy Garland musicals, Andy Hardy stardom, television and the Broadway theatre. He was working right from the beginning; both of his parents were in vaudeville and Rooney began performing at the age of 17 months as part of his parents’ on stage routine.
I won’t pretend to have seen a lot of Mickey Rooney’s work, but from what I have seen and read about over the years – the man was a born entertaining and undoubtedly one of the hardest working people in show business. My first memory of him immediately takes me back to The New Adventures of the Black Stallion, the early 90′s TV show which led me to find The Black Stallion film of 1979, both great entertainment.

Today, we're featuring Mickey Rooney circa 1996. Working as a performer since he was a child, he was a superstar as a teenager for the films in which he played Andy Hardy, and he has had one of the longest careers of any actor, to date spanning 90 years actively making films in ten decades, from 1920s to 2010s. For a younger generation of fans, he gained international fame for his leading role as Henry Dailey in The Family Channel's The Adventures of the Black Stallion, as well as the film itself.
