The Krites -- the titular "Critters" from the eponymous film series -- are small, furry, extraterrestrial eating machines that are essentially dry-land piranhas. Krites only have impulses toward consumption and chaos. They have human intelligence, but are far more interested in eating than philosophy. The first "Critters" movie, directed by Stephen Herek (of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Mr. Holland's Opus" fame) is one of the world's only Easter-themed horror movies, centering on a small Iowa town that discovers Krite eggs and paints them for the Sunday festivities. Naturally, the eggs hatch and the hungry Krites begin wreaking mayhem. Only a pair of alien bounty hunters named Ug (Terrence Mann) and Lee can help in stopping the alien threat.
The Krites can roll up into balls like hedgehogs and trundle quickly from place to place. They can also fire poisonous quills from their backs. They're mean little mothers.

Deemed one of the greatest actors in Hollywood, Denzel Washington exudes a classic movie star aura. Renowned for his enduring charm and the seamless blend of irony and sincerity in his iconic roles, Washington embodies the timeless essence of a Hollywood legend. He is also known for avoiding the franchise films, with the notable exception of The Equalizer trilogy.
A still from The Equalizer trilogy | Sony Pictures
He has also been commended for the same by being named the second-highest-grossing actor to not star in a franchise, following the Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio. However, Washington did not seem to mind the ranking, as he responded with a touch of wit.
Denzel Washington Has no Issues Losing to Leonardo DiCaprio
In a conversation with ScreenRant, Denzel Washington expressed his disinterest in sequels and potential franchise films, as he highlighted his approach of focusing on each film individually rather than considering potential sequels.

Plot: A 12-year-old girl decides to keep a spider as a pet, not aware that the eight-legged creature is not of this world. The more it eats, the more it grows, and soon a giant space arachnid is running loose in an apartment building, snacking on the residents.
Review: Filmmaker Kiah Roache-Turner is best known for his wild and crazy zombie movies Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead and Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, which blended inspiration from Mad Max and Dawn of the Dead to tell the story of a unique zombie outbreak where the living dead have flammable blood and exhale methane. I enjoyed both of those movies, and though I haven’t seen Roache-Turner’s action comedy Nekrotronic yet, it sounds like it’s pretty much in line with the tone of the Wyrmwood flicks, as it tells the story of “a man who discovers that he is part of a...

Leonardo DiCaprio entered the world of Hollywood at quite a young age, making his debut in 1991 with Critters 3. The actor has met a lot of people throughout his life and not everyone had good intentions.
A resurfaced video shows DiCaprio standing and joking alongside Brian Peck, a known child predator in Hollywood. Sharing the video on X, people were infuriated with how Peck was so relaxed around DiCaprio.

Many actors find early success in the horror genre. Jennifer Aniston battled an evil, pun-loving Irish creature in "Leprechaun" years before she landed "Friends," for example. Charlize Theron's first role came in "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest." Even "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" boasted not one, but two future Oscar winners in its cast, Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger.
That said, not everyone manages to go on to achieve that same level of success. For every Michelle Williams ("Halloween H20: 20 Years Later") and Leonardo DiCaprio ("Critters 3"), there are countless horror stars whose careers don't reach the same level of renown. It can be especially interesting to look back at teen horror films, which often feature ensemble casts, to see who made it and who didn't. The actors on this list all have respectable careers, and most are still working in Hollywood; they simply never...

The episode of The Black Sheep covering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

Fandoms everywhere can now rejoice, for in October Our Flag Means Death finally returns to our screens for its second season. Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi will be romancing the high seas once more thanks to an enormous outpouring of love and support from the show’s fans. The safety of the cult favorite is not yet known beyond season two, but if this one is as good as the first, it certainly won’t be for lack of trying.

When Leonardo DiCaprio introduced the Life Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild annual ceremony in 2020, he recalled his father taking him to the cinema to watch "Midnight Run" when he was 13 years old. During the film, his dad said to him:
"If you really want to be an actor and get into this profession, if you want to understand what great acting is, you watch that man on screen."
No, he wasn't talking about Charles Grodin; he was referring to the actor honored that night for his legendary career, Robert De Niro. A few years after that trip to the movie house, DiCaprio found himself starring alongside the legendary actor in "This Boy's Life." It was a major break for the teenager after roles in "Critters 3" and "Poison Ivy," and he more than held his own against the two-time Oscar winner playing a young man suffering abuse at...

Leonardo DiCaprio began his film career at age 17 in Kristine Peterson's 1991 film "Critters 3," a harrowing tale of corrupt real estate exploitation. In "Critters 3," DiCaprio played Josh, the precocious teenage stepson of a morally bankrupt slumlord, a stepfather he accidentally sentences to death when Josh locks him in a basement room with a ravenous Tasmanian devil from space. From "Critters 3," DiCaprio went on to be nominated for seven Academy Awards across the categories of Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor, and Best Picture (he served as a producer on 2013's "The Wolf of Wall Street").

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed movie stars of the modern era, but he’d have fit in perfectly during the Golden Age of Hollywood. The 46 year-old is very selective about the projects he chooses to sign on to, makes a point of collaborating with the finest directors in the industry, lends other filmmakers a hand through his Appian Way Productions, rarely gives interviews when he’s not on the promotional trail and can regularly be spotted in glamorous locations around the world with a supermodel on his arm.
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of his big screen debut in Critters 3, and DiCaprio’s trophy cabinet has been filled to the brim over the intervening decades. He finally put the online discourse to bed when he scooped the long awaited Academy Award for Best Actor at the fifth time of asking thanks to The Revenant,...

Horror has always been a fantastic starting-off point for up and coming filmmakers and artists who then go big and unfortunately never return to the genre. Have you ever seen Leonardo DiCaprio talk about “Critters 3” after going big? Or Steven Spielberg saying no to a prestige Oscar-film to direct another tense horror film? No. More often than not, filmmakers who start in horror and then expand their careers don’t go back.

Does Leonardo DiCaprio need to start rethinking the way he chooses his film projects? It’s a topic many moviegoers are discussing in the aftermath of a Hollywood Reporter article naming Leonardo DiCaprio the world’s “last movie star.” DiCaprio is one of few stars left in the industry whose name carries serious box office clout, but he hasn’t necessarily leveraged that star power to lift up women and minority directors. Guy Lodge, film critic for The Guardian and Variety, made a viral note on Twitter that DiCaprio has not worked with a female director since 1995.
“This is all well and good, and some fine work has come out of it, but I wouldn’t call his choices adventurous either: huge studio prestige productions with established male directors,” Lodge wrote in reaction to the THR story. “He hasn’t acted in a film with a female director since 1995, which...

For an actress who’s achieved global fame as Rey in the Star Wars sequels, Daisy Ridley probably has her pick of roles. It was a surprise, then, to see the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actress appear in a trailer for ultra low-budget British horror flick Scrawl.
The preview has Ridley appearing as a character seemingly brought to life from a violent comic book created by a pair of teenagers. Although not boasting slick visuals, Scrawl does appear to go heavy on the gore. Still, the presence of Ridley in the trailer has confused many Star Wars fans, who variously call it a “bad student movie” whilst wondering “Wtf happened?!'” for her to take the role. Was it a favour to a friend? A bet gone wrong? Or was it actually the career change Ridley was gunning for all along?

It seems that you should never assume that a horror franchise will be dead forever.
Bloody Disgusting have just announced that Syfy is planning to resurrect the long-dormant cult classics Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Critters. These aren’t exactly top flight franchises, but they’re both hits among horror fans, who’ll be at minimum curious to see what the network does with the properties.
Of the two, Critters is perhaps the most understandable choice. After all, it’s already seen four installments, with 1991’s Critters 3 even boasting a ‘before-they-were-famous’ turn from a young Leonardo DiCaprio. Essentially a more violent take on Gremlins, the films are dark horror-comedies about a species of malevolent furry aliens from space who cause mayhem across various locations (with the fourth one heading into space).

I don’t like rituals, period. Whether straitlaced (Christian) or darkly purposed (Satanic), I just find them creepy…and off. So while I won’t stand on ceremony, I will watch, with fascination, films that trot out such pageantry. One of my favorites is a two part TV mini-series, The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (1978). Oh, and its horror, but I’m sure you already guessed that.
Originally airing on NBC Monday, January 23rd (in the NBC Monday Night at the Movies slot) and Tuesday the 24th, 1978, Dark Secret was up against the CBS juggernaut of M*A*S*H/One Day at a Time/Lou Grant. News this week came in that the final planned Divergent Series movie would be skipping the theaters and go direct to television/DVD. It’s a rare move for such a major studio franchise to make, and it got me to thinking about other movie series that fizzled and did the same. Come inside to check out a history of downward sliding franchises!
If I come off sounding a bit harsh about all this, it’s mostly due to the fact that it’s such a bizarre situation. It’s been awhile since a studio franchise had to dropped down to direct-to-television and it’s not a good thing. Sure, Lionsgate is trying to spin the information that it’s part of a planned way to jumpstart a spin-off TV series...but the reality is this isn’t how they wanted The Divergent Series to end.

It was another night of self-congratulating stars, passionate speeches being interrupted by play-'em-off music ("Ride of the Valkyries"? Really???), and several genuine upsets (Rylance over Stallone; Spotlight over The Revenant) — as well as a scorching Oscars monologue that will go down as one for the ages. There were inspirational and uplifting moments, there were cue-the-sad-trombone gags gone wrong, and then there was Stacey Dash wishing everyone a "Happy Black History month." Here are the 20 best, worst and genuinely Wtf moments from last night's Oscars 2016 broadcast. Here's hoping we see Rock...

“Meat’s meat and a man’s gotta eat!” Heed the battle cry of Farmer Vincent Smith, maker of the finest smoked meats around. People would come from far and wide to purchase his delectable fritters, unaware that his special ‘ingredient’ was plain folk, like you and me. 35 years ago, Vincent and his Motel Hell cut off a slice of Americana and served it up in theaters, with a heaping help of humor for good measure. Cannibalism was never this down home friendly.
My initial memories of Motel Hell formulated around two images: The front cover of Issue #9 (November 1980) of Fangoria magazine, the new horror monthly that specialized in the kind of gruesome images that it’s gentler forefather, Famous Monsters of Filmland, wasn’t comfortable delving in to. Upon the cover was a picture of a man in bib overalls, wearing a pig’s head and brandishing a blood...

Leonardo DiCaprio has long earned a reputation for being extremely picky when it comes to starring in feature films. Since 1991 . when he made his big screen debut in Critters 3 - the acclaimed actor has actually only starred in 36 movies . averaging putting out three movies every two years. Of course, the variety of performances has been what has let DiCaprio stand out in Hollywood, but it turns out that there is one particular plot element that appears in a lot of his projects. To put it bluntly: he dies a lot. The folks over at Voactiv have performed a fun bit of statistical analysis regarding actors and frequency of on-screen deaths, and one of their most surprising findings is that Leonardo DiCaprio actually dies in a full quarter of the movies that he stars in (which is to say nine out of the aforementioned 36). Believe it or not, this is...

In an industry filled with failed child stars, Leonardo DiCaprio is a rare success story. The actor is one of the few who was able to transition from kid actor to teen heartthrob to respected A-lister unlike anyone before him -- and today, he turns 40!Hard to believe the kid who got his start in projects like "Critters 3" and "Growing Pains" has become one of Hollywood's most bankable stars and a five-time Oscar nominee. While he had critically acclaimed parts in "Romeo + Juliet" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?", it was the role of Jack Dawson in "Titanic" that made him "King of the World" in 1997 -- launching him to a new level of fame he probably never expected. These days he balances films like "The Wolf of Wall Street" with his philanthropic work, recently speaking at the Un about climate change and doing what he can to support wildlife.

If you were entranced by the rhythmic swinging of the scythe-like blade in The Pit and the Pendulum (1961) or couldn’t look away when Damien’s nanny interrupted his birthday party with a shocking announcement in The Omen (1976), then you might be happy to learn that these and other iconic horror movie moments can be displayed in your home in a new line of miniature dioramas.
From Special FX makeup artist Jason Bakutis comes MicroFear, a collection of six hand-crafted dioramas less than 2.5″ tall. A Kickstarter campagin was recently launched for MicroFear, and enough funds have already been raised to make these impressive miniatures a reality for horror fans.
Impeccably detailed, these miniatures are available in their completed form and as model kits for customers to conjure up on their own, and all dioramas come with their own trading card. To learn more about MicroFear and its successful Kickstarter campaign,...

A Hollywood heartthrob who has been in some of the biggest, best and most successful American movies of the last two decades, Leonardo DiCaprio is a rare breed of talent. Currently Martin Scorsese’s muse, DiCaprio has been improving as an actor ever since we first saw him as a little boy in Critters 3 and we will soon see him back on our screens as Jordan Belfort with his fifth collaboration with Scorsese, The Wolf of Wall Street, which promises to play host to the bravest performance of his extraordinary career.
Scorsese has helped bring authenticity to the promising young actor and helped shackle off the stigma of Jack Dawson and Titanic, moulding him into the talented man he is today. DiCaprio has been the darling boy of some of Hollywood’s biggest directors as he has given performances for such greats as the aforementioned Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen,...

Here's our pick of his finest performances – what would you add to the list?
Whether you think of him as the modern day Robert De Niro or an overpraised Norman Lamont-lookalike (as people used to say), you can't deny that Leonardo DiCaprio has been in some excellent films in the course of his 20 year career – and was the obvious choice to take the title role in Baz Lurhmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
We asked readers to nominate his greatest performances – and here's an attempt to narrow it down to five of the very best, with suggestions from @TomorrowsEnd, @esmehaycox, @bobbyblowdart, @BafflerMeal and @amyjkhan.
Sadly there's no room here for his film debut in Critters 3 – let us know what else you think should have made the list in the comment thread below. Warning: spoilers and adult content feature heavily in these clips.

You waited to find out what might have possibly happened to Charlie and Brad and Ug and Grover’s Bend. In your mind the battle is larger than life. In your mind Charlie and Johnny Steele fight Crites using new fangled weaponry with spacecraft you haven’t seen yet. There’s more nudity and more jokes. The gore is intense and maybe it earns the franchise’s first R rating. You waited in vane, my friends. If retrospective series serve a purpose beyond a general respect and admiration for some of the horror series we loved as kids, it is to provide a warning or at least guidance. To watch Critters 3 you might need some help or you may need to talk it out afterward to make sure you’re okay with just how skewed this tangent is drawn.

Featuring what could be one of Leonardo DiCaprio's most memorable roles to date, “The Great Gatsby” tells the tale of eccentric millionaire Jay Gatsby, whom everyone seems to know, but whom no one really knows much about. With that in mind, we've gathered up 18 lesser-known facts about the film's Oscar-nominated leading man. After a little digging, it turns out that DiCaprio may be as mysterious as the enigmatic Gatsby. 1. Leonardo DiCaprio was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. 2. He was born November 11, 1974. He's a Scorpio and was born in the Year of the Tiger. 3. His mother, Irmelin, is German. His father, George DiCaprio, is Italian. 4. His father was a comic-book artist. 5. His is an only child. 6. His middle name is Wilhelm, which is awesome. 7. He was named for the other famous Leonardo: Leonardo DaVinci. Before he was born, the story goes, DiCaprio's mother felt her baby kick for...

New York — Tobey Maguire didn't have to go far when Leonardo DiCaprio called him about meeting to discuss an adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" with Baz Luhrmann.
"I happened to live next door to Leo at the time, so it wasn't a far journey," Maguire says. "I was like, `Oh, yeah. Sure. I can be over in 30 seconds if that's good for you.'"
"The Great Gatsby" is the first film of note co-starring the two longtime pals. It's fitting, too, because they play the classic tandem of the desperate romantic Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and his lone friend, the narrator Nick Carraway (Maguire) – who, not unlike Maguire, lives adjacent to Gatsby.
Working together on a film is a long time coming for DiCaprio and Maguire. In a recent joint interview at the Plaza Hotel in New York, the two cheerfully reflected on their close friendship, flashing occasional glimpses of the...

Of the major Hollywood stars working today, Leonardo DiCaprio may be the most averse to tentpoles with franchise potential. The actor has certainly had his share of hits, but aside from an appearance in "Critters 3," DiCaprio hasn't appearance in any sequels.
So what gives, Leo? MTV News' Josh Horowitz asked him whether it was a calculated decision during a press day for his new film, "The Great Gatsby."
"It's never really a conscious effort, and it's not something I'd be closed off to doing," DiCaprio said. "It's always a matter of how good the material is, and to tell you the truth, I've never really chosen projects just to switch up genres or try something that I've never tried before."
DiCaprio's criteria for picking new material doesn't exclude sequels and franchise material as a rule, so what properties would get him excited? Well, the first mention of "Star Wars...

Before they were big stars, they were just little folks like you and I! And it's kind of interesting to see them way back when. Thanks to our friends at Flavorwire, they created a video essay featuring big name stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington, Clint Eastwood, James Franco, Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Jason Bateman, Zooey Deschanel, Anne Hathaway, and Chevy Chase.
It was a fun video! I totally forgot that DiCaprio starred in 1991's "Critters 3," or that Jake Gyllenhaal was in "City Slickers," and Seth Rogen was in "Donnie Darko!"
There's so much more, so without further adieu, take a look at the video of big-name actors paying their small-time dues:

What is Movie News After Dark? It has been happening (just about) every weeknight since the beginning of the year. One would hope that you have an idea about what it is by now. For those who still haven’t caught on, it’s about movie news… and it happens after dark. We begin tonight with the story of the wee hours of yesterday, in which Empire’s latest issue began shipping with two covers from The Dark Knight Rises, including the limited edition Bane cover seen above. Some of the folks around the web with camera have sent pictures in to Coming Soon, but more importantly, they’ve included details from the set visit piece within Empire. Especially notable is the part about The Dark Knight Rises being set 8 years in the future. The New York Times has a great profile of the new Muppets movie, including the revelation that the new muppet, Walter...

Ever since his film debut in the long-forgotten horror flick "Critters 3," Leonardo DiCaprio has carefully selected roles that would establish him as one of our generation's most diverse actors. He has played everything from a scruffy third-class artist to a reclusive billionaire, a mentally unstable pyromaniac to a person who infiltrates minds only to sear ideas into them.
His varied roles have given the three-time Oscar nominee one of Hollywood's most enviable résumés, and he's already garnering early award buzz with his upcoming lead turn in "J. Edgar." NextMovie has raided the DiCaprio archives with one goal in mind -- to rank the accomplished actor's nine best roles, as painstaking as that task might be.

Following on from our list of inevitable things to come, here’s 10 things that definitely won’t be happening in Christopher Nolan’s epic conclusion to his Dark Knight trilogy.
Once again, proceed with caution. Spoilers Ahead.
A Tie-In Prince Soundtrack
Someone was responsible for the bizarre decision to let Prince create a soundtrack for Tim Burton’s Batman and we all know it was the money men! Now lets get this out of the way first, I’m not saying Prince is bad, or Tim Burton‘s excellent take on the Batman universe shouldn’t be remembered fondly as the film that brought Bats to an adult audience. I will however argue that watching Jack Nicholson dance around an art gallery to Partyman, is probably on par with any level of camp found in the 1960’s Adam West TV series.
