Rick Ross, low key, might have invented “yacht rap.” The Miami-bred boss specializes in cigar-to-the-sky manifestos that make the most ruthless coke deals seem like a company cruise. A grizzled behemoth prone to surrealist flights of fancy (and some motivational, meat-and-potatoes grind talk), Ross epitomizes extravagance, largesse, and team goals. He’s like a benevolent Shark Tank titan with coke residue still in his beard.

President Donald Trump announced his plan to roll back Obama-era policies regarding U.S.-Cuba relations on Friday, and now the Cuban ambassador to the U.S. is trolling him for it. “#Cuba Now it is official: these are the new enemies of Us Foreign Policy. Watch out!!” José Ramón Cabañas wrote in a now-deleted tweet featuring a photo of what appears to be a family of tourists walking by a street vendor, according to The Hill. The tweet came just hours after Trump delivered his speech announcing the new restrictions in Miami’s predominantly Cuban neighborhood of Little Havana on Friday afternoon.

Miami Marlins players joined scores of fans who gathered at Marlins Park in the Miami neighborhood of Little Havana Wednesday to honor star pitcher José Fernández, who was tragically killed in a weekend boat crash along with two friends. He was 24. Marlins team members bowed their heads and cried as they wore R.I.P. shirts and circled Fernández's hearse before walking with their hands touching the car as it rode down the processional. Afterwards, teammates hugged each other and cried. Tearful fans chanted "Jose, Jose" as the hearse drove by, and took turns signing a wall bearing the number...

After a long, long build-up, TV’s Golden Age is having its Mel Rodriguez moment; within the past few months, the distinctively cuddly-sized actor has occupied critical roles in not one but three acclaimed series. First, he was seen as Patsy de le Cerda, the hapless head nurse on HBO’s hospital comedy, Getting On. Then he popped up again as the short con accomplice of young Saul Goodman on AMC’s Breaking Bad prequel, “Better Call Saul.” And finally, he made a surprise entrance as Todd, the incarnation of the “Last Man on Earth”s nightmare. We caught up with him by phone as he took a break from “doody duties,” tending to his three month old daughter, Stella. Hitfix: Suddenly, all my favorite shows are centered around Mel Rodriguez. How did this happen? I don’t know man, I really don’t. I’m the luckiest guy in the world.

The Movie on its own merit…
There are some experiences that, while not life changing, are life reaffirming and leave an impression not easily forgotten. Arguably, the best kinds of these experiences are the ones that are fully unexpected. Being caught off guard, leaving the unmistakable mark of joy stretched across one’s face. Moments that make us smile, spontaneously. I am reminded of the very first time I had an authentic Cuban sandwich, which happened to be off a food truck in Austin, Texas. Watching Jon Favreau’s newest film, Chef, is the cinematic equivalent.
From the filmmaker who Made (2001) an independent first impression, immortalized Will Ferrell as a holiday staple in Elf (2003) and realized the Iron Man trilogy on the big screen, its refreshing to see writer and director Jon Favreau returning to his smaller, indie roots with Chef. Miami -- Oscar Corral thought someone was yanking his chain the day the phone rang at The Miami Herald newsroom and a soft-spoken voice with just a hint of southern drawl said: "Oscar Corral, this is Tom Wolfe."
That would be master journalist-turned-novelist Tom Wolfe.
For decades Wolfe had traversed the country in his trademark white suit and fedora, sending up the idiosyncrasies of rich and poor in novels like the New York City-based "The Bonfire of the Vanities," and "A Man in Full," set in Atlanta. Now the satirist had his sights on Miami, and he wanted then-reporter Corral's help.
Over the course of several years beginning in 2008, Corral became a tour guide and translator for Wolfe, taking the famed author from Miami's raucous Columbus Day Regatta to Little Haiti's Santeria shops. With Wolfe's approval, Corral began filming their escapades. The result is the documentary "Blood Lines," which follows...

At 54, Gloria Estefan looks and feels sexier than ever, and it shows in her latest work, Miss Little Havana, which she wrote and co-produced with Pharrell Williams and her inseparable husband, Emilio.
Sensual and sexual, the songs express a more liberated Gloria, one who is increasingly open-minded and more eager to show her Cuban and Caribbean heritage to the world -- this time in English, with a return to a modern 'Conga.' She's also eager to be a grandmother.

New York -- Conga, merengue, salsa, cumbia. And also pop. Rock. Folk.
As a singer, Gloria Estefan has offered a whole palette of flavors and colors to her fans, both in English and in Spanish. But with her new English album, "Miss Little Havana," the Cuban star reveals a side she had yet not explored with the tone of her voice – one of great sensuality. She attributes her newest producer Pharrell, who has created hits for the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jay-z and more, with helping bring out her sexier side on the Latin dance album.
"I am indeed, much more comfortable in my own skin," said Estefan, 54, in a recent interview with The Associated Press.
"I think women, as we get older, we can just let go of a lot of things," added the artist, who gained fame in the 1980s as the lead singer of the Miami Sound Machine.

Paulina Rubio fought the law this weekend in Miami...and the law won. After crashing her BMW into another car Saturday, the Mexican pop singer was arrested near Miami's Little Havana. It wasn't the smashup itself that landed the Latin sensation in handcuffs, however, but a clash with cops after the accident. So what did Rubio do to provoke the police—and how did her 6-month-old baby save her a trip to the slammer? According to the arrest report, Rubio was asked to get out of her car but refused, cursing at one officer on the scene and telling police, "All of you Miami cops are abusive." The report goes on to say that after Rubio refused the officer's requests,...

Picture it: Miami, Florida, 1996. The city I was born and raised in. I was 15 years old, around 5’10″, loving dark lipsticks, and even more Asian looking than anyone could have imagined or hoped for. It was this year that, due to circumstances beyond my control (namely, an older brother deeply entrenched in Republican politics, not named Alex P. Keaton) that my family found ourselves at Versailles, one of the oldest and most famous Cuban restaurants on Calle Ocho in Miami’s Little Havana. It was there that this happened: Yes, that is Bob Dole, doing his best impression of a Louis Vuitton garment bag, flanked by my Mother Judy Collins, and indeed, myself, far right, 15, and crazy looking. You will notice my Mother has revealed perhaps more decolletage than necessary, as per usual. And those of you wondering what is around the very handsome Mr. Dole’s neck: He is donning a beaded Cuban flag necklace,...

And for the first entry, I present to you Cypress Hill's "Armada Latina," whose video premiered Thursday (April 8) on MTV.
It probably wasn't supposed to work out this way. After all, timing has never exactly been B-Real and Sen Dog's greatest strength. Rise Up, the album from which "Armada" comes, has been in the works since 2005, and something like four singles have already been released off it, even though it...

Gloria Estefan has led her fellow Cubans in a protest march in Miami's Little Havana on Thursday. The multiple Grammy Award winner led the march in support of Cuba's Las Damas de Blanco, or the Ladies in White.
The Cuban-born star, along with the thousands of protesters, wore white and marched in silence to show solidarity with the opposition group, which is composed of mothers and wives of 75 dissidents in Cuba. This month marks the seventh anniversary of the Black Spring event, when the government imprisoned journalists, writers, and political rebels they thought were a threat to the revolution.
53 of them are still imprisoned, while one, named Orlando Zapata Tamayo, died after a hunger strike.
Estefan said, "This is a big message to all of them that freedom is alive and we care for them, we love them. We want them to be free."...
