Exclusive: Laura Harrier (White Men Can’t Jump) has been tapped for a major role opposite Bill Skarsgård and Nicolas Cage in Lords of War, the sequel to 2005 crime thriller Lord of War, which Andrew Niccol (Anon) wrote and is directing for Vendôme Pictures (Coda), sources tell Deadline.
Lords of War picks up the story of Yuri Orlov (Cage), the world’s most notorious gunrunner, watching as he discovers he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), who isn’t trying to right his father’s wrongs — he’s trying to top them. Not only selling guns but the “trigger pullers” too, Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts. This is the story of Yuri and Anton’s bitter rivalry — even at odds over the same woman. Who will prevail when father and son go to war?
Specifics as to Harrier’s part are under wraps.

In one of the best episodes of The Vince Staples Show – a dark Netflix comedy following the fictionalized life of the titular rapper – Vince slowly but surely leverages a bank robbery he’s caught in the crosshairs of to his advantage. Christopher Nolan’s list of movies he has praised is expansive and filled with classics like 12 Angry Men, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Lawrence of Arabia, and Blade Runner. And now you can add one of the biggest action franchises ever to that lineup. That’s right, Christopher Nolan loves the Fast & Furious movies and has no shame over it.
Nolan – both a creator and supporter of franchise movies – expressed his love of the Fast & Furious on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, also showing complete disbelief that the host had never seen a single entry in the 11-deep series. “I have no guilt about being a fan of the Fast & Furious franchise…A tremendous action franchise…You’ve never seen any of them? Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil’s film and TV production company, Mortal Media, has led an investment round for animation studio Swaybox Studios, Variety has learned exclusively.
As part of the investment, Mortal Media will join Swaybox’s advisory board, while Griffin and Kalil have also put an untitled live-action/animation hybrid project into development with the studio.
Swaybox was co-founded by Theresa Andersson and Arthur Mintz in 2013 in Shreveport, Louisiana. The company has developed a new animation technology and process for film and television production, called “Momo Animation.” The technology involves a combination of three traditional animation forms: CGI animation, practical elements of stop motion, and live action real-time performance.

Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow are Los Angeles streetball hustlers in the official trailer for Hulu’s remake of White Men Can’t Jump.
Walls (Friday Night Lights) and rapper Harlow — making his film debut — take over the roles played by Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, respectively, in the 1992 hit comedy by writer-director Ron Shelton.
The trailer is full of the on-court trash-talk that the original machine-gunned so deftly, with Harlow being referred to as “a yoga teacher” who is allowed to enter the gym and told he’s dressed like “a white girl at Whole Foods” and “wearing a fake-ass Richard Simmons outfit,” among other slams.
In the new film, Sinqua Walls “stars as Kamal, once a promising player who derailed his future in the sport, and multi-platinum rap superstar Jack Harlow makes his movie debut as Jeremy, a former star of the game whose injuries stalled his own career.

Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls face off, talk trash, and bury their beef in the trailer for Hulu’s remake of White Men Can’t Jump. The movie premieres on the streaming service on May 19.
Most of the best dunking in the clip, however, is on how Harlow, whose character is named Benji Allen, looks. People say he looks like a yoga instructor, a white girl at Whole Foods, and a “fake-ass Richard Simmons.” With more footage in the clip left, some characters even tell him, least creatively, that he’s “dressed like a dumbass.

‘White Men Can’t Jump’ Trailer: 20th Century Studios’ Remake Of The ’90s Classic Hits Hulu On May 19
Did anyone ask for a “White Men Can’t Jump” remake? Doubtful, but the ’90s classic gets the reboot treatment thanks to screenwriters Kenya Barris and Doug Hall. A property like this could be in worse hands, though. Barris — creator of “Black-ish” and “Grown-ish” — is no stranger to the remake game. He’s been involved with updates of “Shaft” and “Cheaper by the Dozen,” with an “Uptown Saturday Night” reimagining also in development.

"Hustle harder." 20th Century Studios has revealed the full-length official trailer for their upcoming remake of White Men Can't Jump, this one directed by Calmatic (following up his remake of House Party that opened earlier this year). The original White Men Can't Jump movie, co-starring Wesley Snipes & Woody Harrelson, opened in 1992 and was a huge hit at the time. I remember everyone talking about it then. This remake reuses the exact some concept with a few modern tweaks - moving it to the West Coast this time. It's about a pair of basketball hustlers who team up to earn some extra cash - starring Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow in this update. The cast also includes Lance Reddick (Rip), Teyana Taylor, Laura Harrier, Tamera Kissen, Myles Bullock, Vince Staples, and Zak Steiner. This looks damn good! Better than expected, staying true to what made the original great. One of the...

When it comes to activism, Rosie Perez isn’t one to merely lob a tweet. She was arrested for disorderly conduct in 2000 while protesting the U.S. Navy’s deadly air bomb training off the coast of Puerto Rico. And the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actress, whose mother died of AIDS, served on President Obama’s Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, beginning in 2010.

Shelton’s Bull Durham, as with follow-ups like White Men Can’t Jump and Tin Cup, has no Big Game ending or inspirational schmaltz, and features a flawed, never-was athlete whose triumphs are known to few outside his inner circle. Coaching arrogant dopes to live out your dream is humbling work, but Shelton savors the smaller, unseen victories for his hero,...

Woody Harrelson steps onto the court once again in the heartfelt sports comedy “Champions.” Directed by Bobby Farrelly, the remake of the 2018 Spanish film “Campeones” sees Harrelson as Marcus, a former minor-league basketball coach who leads a team of intellectually disabled players called the Friends.
“It’s really hard to make an authentically funny and emotionally vulnerable film, and I thought they did such a wonderful job,” Kaitlin Olson, who plays Alex in the movie, told Variety Monday night at the New York premiere of “Champions.” “I met all the Friends and they’re such an incredible cast. They all showed up ready to play, and we just had the most amazing time.”
After watching hundreds of auditions during an open casting call across the U.S. and Canada, the production team found the ideal Friends: Kevin Iannucci, Joshua Felder, Madison Tevlin, Ashton Gunning, Matthew Von Der Ahe, Tom Sinclair,...

The task of casting two actors that can play believable friends is a feat that can't be faked, and it was only half the battle when it came time to cast the basketball buddy comedy "White Men Can't Jump." Writer-director Ron Shelton was looking for more than just chemistry between his two leads. He also needed actors that looked like they belonged on the court, which made it a grueling casting process for its prospective stars.
Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson were already longtime friends before "White Men Can't Jump" fell into their laps. They'd met on the set of "Wildcats," another sports comedy starring Goldie Hawn, and had spent something like six years cultivating a rapid-fire rapport. That pre-established chemistry should have made their casting a no-brainer — if only Snipes and Harrelson were as much of a match on the court as they were off of it.
