Contrary to popular belief, this special is not a direct sequel to the original Frosty the Snowman (1969). Rankin/Bass produced the latter special, while Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video produced this special. Additionally, the animation was done by Bill Melendez of Peanuts fame, which is why the style is drastically different from the original Rankin/Bass special.
This special was actually the first time that John Goodman voiced an animated character. He has since gone on to voice numerous animated characters in several feature films, made-for-TV movies, TV shows, and video games.
Although the special was produced in 1992, it was first released direct-to-video on September 15, 1993 and later aired on CBS on December 1, 1995.
