If audiences are tired of reboots and sequels, that hasn’t stopped them from flocking to see the latest “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. Even as anticipated tentpoles like “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have failed to break even at the box office, Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” managed to recoup half its $70 million budget five days after its release.
The animated movie’s success isn’t totally surprising given its comparatively small budget and stacked cast. But given that the last film featuring this IP, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” reportedly lost Paramount around $75 million back in 2016, one can’t help but feel the studio took a risk by betting on “Ninja Turtles” again in 2023.
So is “Mutant Mayhem” succeeding because it’s part of an IP that’s nearly 40 years old, or in spite of it?...

For those who were between the ages of nine and 12 in 1990, Steve Barron's film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was a banner event. It was the first time the ultra-popular mutants were seen in live-action, and Barron did not disappoint. The Turtles were provided by Jim Henson's Creature Shop who constructed full-body foam latex suits for the actors, as well as animatronic, full-head masks. Voice actors would record dialogue, and puppeteers would operate myriad facial servos by remote, making it look like the Turtles were talking. Each of the four title teens required a voice actor, a body actor, a facial puppeteer, and, in a few cases, a fight or skateboarding double. It took 11 actors in total to play four characters.
The result was rather astonishing. The Turtles felt more real than they ever had before or, arguably, since. The facial movements on the mutant masks may have been...

“Ninja rap” might just be the Rosetta Stone of early ‘90s pop culture. For only during this brief and extraordinary moment could a musical act like Vanilla Ice in supersized shoulder pads—and with a slicked-back pompadour that made it look as if he just stepped out of the shower—reign supreme as the fastest-selling hip hop artist ever. Also only in that same context could he then be convinced to appear in a movie where he’d dance on stage with full-grown men wearing elaborate puppeteer costumes that made them resemble a beloved Saturday morning cartoon show.
Yet in 1991 all these things happened, and they were all massive hits. Truly, then, the third act of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secret of the Ooze is a convergence point for everything gaudy and overwrought in the American zeitgeist of its era. And it’s time to stop pretending like that’s a bad thing.

Who could have guessed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s small, black-and-white indie comic about anthropomorphic crime-fighting turtles that began as a parody of superhero storytelling would not only be around forty years later but also have the love and investment of several generations of fans? Whether you discovered the Turtles through the toys, the various TV shows, or the movies, audiences have been lucky enough to have at least one defining iteration of these heroes.
Alongside Batman and Spider-Man, the Turtles have had the most consistent luck with their onscreen history. And this week, the Heroes in Half-Shells are back on the big screen for the latest reboot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. To celebrate, The Hollywood Reporter has definitively ranked the theatrical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies from the most bogus to the most bodacious.

One night, two struggling cartoonists had what turned out to be a billion-dollar idea. What if Frank Miller’s Daredevil had human-sized turtles in it? From that question came the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a quartet of brothers named after Renaissance artists who fought the Shredder and his Foot Clan (a spoof of perpetual Daredevil baddies the Hand). Who could have guessed that the self-published comic Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created would launch a phenomenon, one that survived its first boom in the late ‘80s and crash in the mid-1990s? It has since gone on to become an enduring pop culture franchise which is still going strong after several decades. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael have leaped out of the sewers and into every type of media, including video games and toys. Nonetheless, the characters are never more exciting than when they hit the big screen.

Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Tubi opens June with an intense WWII drama “Inglourious Basterds.” Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of five tough Jewish soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich. They have one assignment: assassinate Nazi leaders. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the unconventional war drama. Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, and Christopher Walz co-star.
Watch the trailer of “Inglourious Basterds”:
The network is also streaming the original documentary “Mystery Unsolved: The Adnan Syed Story” on June 7. The murder of teenager Hae Min Lee was the focal point of a “Serial” podcast, which questioned if boyfriend Syed was her killer. After serving 22 years in prison, Syed was released, still proclaiming his innocence. Now, he may return.

This is a big year for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not only is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem releasing in cinemas in August, but March also marks the 30th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Considered to be one of the worst depictions of the martial artist amphibians onscreen, and a lacking successor to its two previous live-action hits, the New Line Cinema release marked the end of a largely successful franchise that began with Jim Henson. But the mutant mania didn’t have to end there. In fact, it almost didn’t.
Many people aren’t aware that a fourth instalment to the series almost came to fruition. The canceled project won’t ever see the light of day, but modern fans who’ve since witnessed many animated, comic book, and even Michael Bay-produced CGI versions of the character, will surely be intrigued by what could’ve been.

May will satisfy “Stranger Things” fans everywhere as it delivers Netflix’s hotly-anticipated fourth season of the sci-fi thriller series hailing from the Duffer brothers. However, the streamer’s also getting rid of other shows — most notably, all six seasons of the Emmy-winning “Downton Abbey” and Seasons 1-3 of the Damon Wayans Jr.-starring sitcom “Happy Endings.”

Netflix is ringing in the new year in atypical fashion. Throughout 2021, the streaming giant’s original offerings swelled while its library titles shrunk. With its list of new releases for January 2022, however, Netflix is expanding its non-original market quite a bit.
Jan. 1 sees the arrival of a truly stunning amount of impressive non-Netflix movies and TV shows. The big titles available on the first of the month include: 300, Interview with the Vampire, Paranormal Activity, Superman Returns, Terminator 2, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and much more. Later on in the month, Netflix is also set to add Phantom Thread (Jan. 16) to its roster.

The costumes that were made for the original live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films were pretty awesome for the late 80s early 90s. But, those costumes did not stand the test of time very well.
As you’ll see in the photos below, the original screen-used costume for Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III is rotting into something completely horrifying. It’s in pretty rough shape, but it’s up for auction thanks to the London-based Prop Store.

Idw and DC are teaming up again for a chapter of their popular Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic series, and the Ninja Turtles are getting cool new redesigns! In fact, all of the characters, Ninja Turtles and DC, all have a cool new look.
The new series will be titled Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Crisis in a Half Shell, and will be launching later this year.
Some of the character designs you’ll see include Leonardo, whose design has been merged with Nightwing. Raphael, who has Red Hood style. Donatello, whose design is themed after Red Robin. Then there’s Michelangelo, whose design has been combined with Damian Wayne's Robin. You’ll also see character designs for Batman, Joker, Clayface, Harley Quinn, Joker, Splinter, Killer Croc, Deadshot, and Krang.
The new character designs were shared by writer James Tynion IV and artist Freddie Williams II. Check them...

Batman and the Tmnt have taken on Shredder, Ra's Al Ghul, a mutated Joker, and Bane. Now it's time to save the multiverse from Krang!
News recently broke that in a few months, we’ll be getting a Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie because sometimes the universe truly loves us. The Dark Knight and the Heroes in a Half-Shell have crossed paths a handful of times in the last couple years of comics, starting with early 2016’s Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by James Tynion IV and Freddie E. Williams II. It’s since gotten a sequel and a reimagining.
Now it’s time for part three...or four, technically. On May 1, we’ll be getting Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, again by Tynion and Williams. Oh, and Tmnt co-creator Kevin Eastman will not only be returning to do some covers like the previous miniseries,...

The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” films are cult classics from the ’90s, but the producers, writers and a director behind the “heroes in a half shell” movies are now demanding payment from Warner Bros. Producers Kim Dawson and Gary Propper, director Steve Barron, writers Bobby Herbeck and Todd Langen and an heir to producer Graham Cottle filed a lawsuit Thursday in the Los Angeles Superior Court against the distributor of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1990), “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” (1991) and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993). The filing states that the six plaintiffs were “entitled to...

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a heavily tinseled tree, a tipple before midday and Gremlins on the telly at some point during the day.
The Joe Dante-directed black cult comedy sees protagonist Billy Peltzer being gifted with Gizmo, a cute furry Mogwai discovered by his inventor father in a mysterious Chinatown antique store.
Of course the creature comes with three special instructions which, if not adhered to, result in the spawning of grizzly Gremlins hell-bent on havoc.
The Steven Spielberg-produced movie - which is
currently being fast-tracked by Warner Bros for a remake - celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this year, and here's what the main cast members got up to after the movie's success:
1. Zach Galligan
Zach Galligan plays William 'Billy' Peltzer who becomes enthralled by his unusual Christmas gift - yet careless with the three golden Gizmo rules.

While actress Judith Hoag was the first actress to bring intrepid reporter April O'Neil to life, starring in 1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from director Steve Barron, her tenure as the character was rather short-lived. Not only was she replaced by Paige Turco in both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, but the brand has since moved even far beyond those movies with the animated Tmnt (featuring Sarah Michelle Geller as the voice of April), and, most recently, Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles starring Megan Fox. While Hollywood has certainly moved on, Hoag remains one of the franchise's biggest mysteries. Why did she not come back as April O'Neil in the live-action Turtles movies of the 90s? To hear the story from the actress' side, it was because producers weren't too happy about her regular notes. With the...

It’s been over 20 years since the Tmnt had a live action movie; I know a lot of us like to pretend Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III didn’t happen, but it did. This isn’t the darker/grittier/bloody reboot people were hoping to get after years of rumors that one was being made. Instead it’s a CGI-fest from Platinum Dunes and the director of Wrath of the Titans and Battle Los Angeles. In our lifetime, I’m sure we...

Fans are a fickle bunch and while our passion for certain properties is part of what makes the experience great, sometimes we come off as jerks. Between reboots and sequels we’ve seen the nasty side of fandom come out lately, and recently the ire has been stoked by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Since the first trailer for the new film released, many fans have angrily claimed the film is going to “ruin the Ninja Turtles”...Fellow fans, it’s time to face the facts. Over the two and a half decades of Ninja Turtles being in existence, there have been a few things to come out which have already ruined them.
I love being a fanboy and participating in various discussions about my favorite things with other fans. I don’t have much patience when the conversation starts off (or devolves into) “such and such ruined my childhood” or some similar nonsense.

This new Blu-ray set gathers together the three live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in one collection. Matt takes a look...
I was invited along to Legoland as part of their bank holiday Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weekend back in August by Nickelodeon (the show is expected to return to Nick in November). Initially confused by the ridiculous number of short people (many of whom were dressed as Ninja Turtles) surrounding me, I soon became aware that the place was being overrun by a swarm of sherbert-huffing hyperactive children.
Obviously, I was livid. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is for my generation. I tried to explain to them that they were ruining my childhood, but they were so busy enjoying theirs that they hardly paid me any notice, no matter how furiously I screamed. The Legoland staff was similarly disinterested in my distress, but they were practically children themselves.

With Iron Man 3 now in theaters it's a chance for us to look back at all of the superhero part threes that have come before it. Here's the list: Superman III, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Batman Forever, Blade: Trinity, X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3 and The Dark Knight Rises. Sure there are some straight-to-dvd sequels, but I don't think we need to bring up the likes of Darkman III: Die Darkman Die here. Now this is a list of all of the really good superhero part threes: The Dark Knight Rises. That's it, that's the list... until now. Yes, as the late, great Yoda always foretold, there is another. With the help of director Shane Black, Robert Downey Jr. and even Gwyneth Paltrow, Iron Man 3 is worth seeing, now let's see how it stacks up against The...

Matt concludes his celebration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies with Turtles Forever...
As part of the celebration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' 25th anniversary, the animated film, Turtles Forever, was produced. Set in the world of the 2003 TV series, the film wasn't so much released as it was carelessly knocked off a shelf and into the world. (My suspicions that the release strategy was planned as an act of revenge by a petulant, bitter Biker Mice From Mars fan are yet to be confirmed.)
After theatrical screenings were cancelled, it was trimmed down and shown on American television, with the full-length version made available for free streaming on the Internet. It was given a particularly clumsy Us DVD release in 2010, featuring the shortened TV edit of the film, presented in the wrong aspect ratio. It's just now been given a release in the UK (with the flaws...

Matt's look back at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies continues with the third installment, which still brings him out in a cold sweat...
Not often, but occasionally, I’ll wake up exactly at the stroke of midnight, panicked and struggling for breath. Unsure of where I am or what’s happening to me, I bolt up in bed and try to gather myself. I take in my bedroom, placing my location and calming myself enough to correct my breathing. My ribs ache a little, like they’ve been crushed by a great weight, but one that has been lifted. I’ll look over to the other side of the bed. Somehow, my girlfriend always manages to sleep through it.
I slide back down and settle, as gently as I can be, trying not to wake her. My mind still feels cluttered and manic, not yet slowed down from the sudden influx of sensations.

Our look back at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies continues with The Secret Of The Ooze, a sequel that raises the budget, and introduces Vanilla Ice…
As an ambitious young writer, I actually wrote an outline for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II. Unfortunately, it was never developed into a full script as I was unable to get it to anyone at the studio before Secret Of The Ooze was in production. I suspect that my difficulties in getting my outline read were due to a lack of Hollywood connections, something I attribute entirely to the fact that I was seven.
Truth be told, it may be for the best that my work stayed unseen by the rest of the world, as I wrote the outline before I’d had a chance to see the first film, starting my version where I assumed it left off – with Shredder helping Krang...

Sony’s Columbia Pictures has officially signed Will Smith for Men in Black 3 and the studio has scheduled the 3D sequel for release on May 25, 2012.
Technically director Barry Sonnenfeld already confirmed his return, along with Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, last month. (Both will reprise their roles as Agent Jay and Kay, respectively.) But Deadline’s report doubly confirms this… with a few more details.
Jones will have a smaller role in the sequel that, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, will go back in time. The long-rumored Josh Brolin is in talks to play a young Agent Kay in the year 1969. Brolin recently told MTV the script, written by Etan Cohen, is “really, really good.” He added, “This is a character where I feel like I can do some actual acting work within this franchise that everybody knows.”

There is nothing strange about the premise of "Hot Tub Time Machine," certainly not in comparison to other movies dealing with time travel. While it might seem weird that four buddies can just plop down inside of a steamy outdoor bath and subsequently jump back in time to the 1980s, trust me — that's not as weird as it can get.
Time travel is an odd beast that has been at the heart of several films over the years, for better or worse. After the jump, we've listed some of the most bizarre ways that heroes, villains and unwitting everymen have sailed through time thanks to the delightfully demented minds working in Hollywood.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Viacom's Nickelodean purchased the global intellectual property rights and merchandising rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Tmnt) in a deal estimated at $60 million. Nickelodean plans to develop a new CG-animated TV series starring the Turtles and release a new feature film of their exploits in 2012.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book was originally self-published in 1984 by creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird as a parody of popular comic books of the time, including Frank Miller's Ronin and Marvel Comics' Daredevil. The comic book spawned a tremendously popular cartoon series, multiple video games, countless toys, three live-action movies, and the 2007 Imagi Animation Studios' CG-animated movie, simply titled Tmnt.
Nickelodean plans to maintain a relationship with Playmates Toyes, Inc., the company that first manufactured and marketed Turtles toys and is responsible for much of the franchise's success throughout the years.

There's just something about a Mutant Turtle who happens to be a ninja... apparently. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the green shells, a new DVD and Blu-Ray collection of their four feature films is coming to stores August 11th. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time, and 2007's CGI Tmnt, together in one package, and each set with special bonuses. The standard DVD set comes in a manhole cover collectible tin, and includes four turtle masks and Tubular Tatoos. The Blu-Ray comes with comic book, a sketch signed by co-creator Peter Laird, 8 Tmnt character cards, and a Radical Beanie Hat. Seriously... Cowabunga. Something about the wild pizza-lovers seems to keep the younger crowds coming back for more (as I suppose 25 years proves), and the A-Team-esque brand of flashy, but no one gets hurt violence makes these features action-packed,...

As you may know already, a live-action reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is in early developmental stages, and now the project has found its writer: John Fusco.
The film is apparently expected to be ready for release in 2011, and the story will likely focus on the origins of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael.
According to Variety, Fusco is quite knowledgeable when it comes to martial arts. He also wrote last year's "The Forbidden Kingdom," which I personally hated. Some of his other credits also include "Hidalgo" and the upcoming "The Seven Samurai."
The turtles have already made several big-screen appearances. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" debuted in 1990, and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze" followed in '91. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III" opened in 1993.
Who out there thinks it's a smart idea to bring back the crime-fighting hero turtles? Sound off below.

The popular comic book "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles",and their master Splinter are officially headed back to the theaters for some more box office action. Also these comic book creatures began way back in 1984 which I was not aware of. They started out as just a comic book series, and then got their own cartoon show back in the late 80's and early 90's. And after that of course they came out with the the three feature films.

Okay, so 2007's animated "Tmnt" really sucked, but somebody you there is convinced it's a good idea to bring the crime-fighting hero turtles back to the big screen. And this time, they'll return in a live-action feature!
According to Variety, the Mirage Group is gearing up to develop a new installment in the series. The film is apparently expected to be ready for release in 2011, and the story will likely focus on the origins of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael.
As a kid, I always loved watching the live-action Tmnt flicks, and although I know this reboot is going to look incredibly different, I admit I could probably get excited over it if it's done right and looks intriguing enough.

Kevin Eastman told Heavy Metal that there will be one more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and this will be a fresh look at their origin story.
“Yes, it is true,” Eastman told the site, which he owns. “Although the CGI film did well enough to warrant a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better ‘re-invention’ (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the Tmnt's, in a live action film — like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc...there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr. Laird, and discussions with the original ‘first’ Tmnt film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right — but no official word yet...will keep you posted.”
Barron directed that first film back in 1990. It was followed in 1991 with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
