Following the sad news that Peter Sallis has taken his last grand day out, the folks behind “Wallace and Gromit” have paid tribute to the departed actor. Sallis voiced the human half of the duo from its inception until 2010, including four short films (“A Grand Day Out,” “The Wrong Trousers,” “A Close Shave” and “A Matter of Loaf and Death”) and the feature film “Curse of the Were-Rabbit”; his gentle voice is one of the beloved stop-motion series’ most distinctive traits. Watch the video below.

Aardman co-founder Peter Lord grabbed a ball of clay before his conversation last week at the Fmx International Conference on Animation, Effects, Vr, Games and Transmedia in Stuttgart, Germany, and slowly molded a puppet of Morph, Aardman’s first creation, while discussing 40 years of stop-motion glory at its animation studio in Bristol, England.
From “Wallace & Gromit” to “Creature Comforts” to “Shaun the Sheep,” Aardman will be firmly dedicated to the hand-crafted technique of stop-motion as long as audiences continue to embrace it. For Lord, who co-founded Aardman with school chum David Sproxton before adding animator-director Nick Park to the creative team, it’s all about the comedy of manners and empathy.
Here are Lord’s five rules for stop-motion animation:
1. Never forget the importance of Ray Harryhausen.

Aardman Animations co-founder Peter Lord said he “absolutely assumes” the famed U.K. stop-motion animation studio will make more projects with its famous Wallace and Gromit characters.
The characters — the subjects of Aardman stories including the Oscar-winning shorts A Close Shave and The Wrong Trousers, as well as the Oscar-winning animated feature The Curse of the Were-Rabbit — were created by the studio’s Nick Park, who is currently directing Aardman’s upcoming cavemen feature Early Man.

Shaun the Sheep became a breakout star in Nick Park’s 1995 short film “Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave.” The stop-motion character was then featured in “Wallace and Gromit’s Cracking Contraptions” and had his own TV series “Shaun the Sheep.”
Shaun’s big hit came in 2015 when he starred in his own feature film “Shaun the Sheep Movie.” Now, after box office success and an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film, Aardman Animations and StudioCanal announced that a sequel is in the works.

Bristol-based animation studio Aardman is primed to round up the flock for a sequel to last year’s sleeper hit, Shaun the Sheep.
Reteaming with Studiocanal, pre-production on the stop-motion feature will get going early next year, when Richard Starzak will return at the helm. He’ll be directing on his lonesome this time around, however, after it was confirmed that Mark Burton, who co-directed the first film, will not return. Paul Kewley is on board to produce.
Pitched as “another epic and hilarious journey, in what will be their biggest and most exciting adventure yet,” Shaun the Sheep 2 will herald the return of the title character first introduced in Nick Park’s Oscar-winning short, A Close Shave. Little is known about the sequel’s story at this time, though David Sproxton, co-founder and executive chairman of Aardman (Wallace and Gromit), stated, “the flock are very excited to be embarking...

Perhaps sensing that everyone will be sick of looking at him by the tail end of 2017 (what with the multiple Oscar nominated transformations, the actual Oscar, and that new Fantastic Beasts franchise), Eddie Redmayne will give his ginger mug a wee break from gigantification on the big screen. Instead he'll be leading the voice cast of Aardman's Early Man which just went into production for release in 2018. The best part of the news is that Nick Park will be directing and he's been absent from that particular chair for too long. (His last feature was 11 long years ago, the Oscar winning Curse of the Were Rabbit.)
You can pencil it in for a Best Animated Feature nomination right now (albeit two years from now) because Aardman has quite a track record of delights (sorry Flushed Away!). They've got a heavy shelf of awards to prove it including Oscar nominations for...

Fish out of water stories are as common as they are compelling. People relate to stories of not fitting in, but still trying to get on with their lives anyway.
At first glance, “Shaun the Sheep Movie” and “A Walk in the Woods” seem like movies that have nothing in common. One’s the latest stop-motion animated offering from Aardman, the other is a comedy starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. It’s an easy to make assumption that’s mostly correct.
“Shaun the Sheep Movie” stars, of course, the titular character, the clever little sheep who starred in his own show for several seasons. Shaun made his film debut in the short “A Close Shave”, and has evolved into a much more intelligent character from his beginnings.
The movie starts with innocent enough intent. Shaun wants a day where he doesn’t have to deal with the same old monotonous routine,...

Cinema has a love affair with mental illness. A shut-in with mommy issues. An insurance assessor with dissociative identity disorder. A Nobel-winning mathematician suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. And then there are those who decide to climb Mt. Everest. Certainly more daunting a lifelong pursuit than selling soap or managing a hotel, the prospect of summiting 9,000 meters above Earth’s surface attracts a rare breed of thrill-seeker, mountaineers willing to put their life or “merely” their lungs and limbs on the line against suffocating elevation and Nepalese snowstorms. In terms of mental disorders, scaling the tallest point on the planet can be filed under “psychosis.”
Baltasar Kormákur’s Everest depicts two such climbing expeditions, albeit without recognizing the crazier elements of the venture. That’s likely because many perished in the 1996 climb up Everest, including New Zealand good guy Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and Scott Fischer...

Though clever and cheeky like most Aardman Animations' productions, Shaun the Sheep Movie is a decidedly more slight, if ever quaint, effort for the company. A ruminant character spawned from the Wallace & Gromit short film A Close Shave and later the titular star of the television series "Shaun the Sheep," Mark Burton and Richard Starzak's big-screen debut for the wool-covered once-sidekick deliberately focuses as mightily as it can on keeping itself as snappy and pun-enthused as possible -- with barely a moment wasted with its comedy during the 85 minute running time. Every second crackles with energy and enthusiasm, keeping its playful spirits up high and bewitchingly captures the silly spunk the stop-motion purists provide best in gracious handfuls. But as passionate and loving as the production often becomes, the heart never quite pops out as vitally as it would so plentifully during Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit...

Animator Nick Park’s fifth Wallace and Gromit film, A Matter Of Loaf And Death (named for the Powell & Pressburger 1946 fantasy romance A Matter Of Life And Death, the first of many such baking-related puns) became the most-watched television programme in the UK in 2008, attracting a Christmas day average audience of 14.4 million viewers. It saw 62 West Wallaby Street, Wigan, transformed into a granary, making Wallace the target of a “cereal killer” intent on ridding the world of bakers. Gromit, as ever, came to the rescue.

It saw 62 West Wallaby Street, Wigan, transformed into a granary, making Wallace the target of a “cereal killer” intent on ridding the world of bakers. Gromit, as ever, came to the rescue.

Charming in that gloriously detailed Aardman way, but with its simple slapstick humor, it’s strictly for the littlest tykes. I’m “biast” (pro): love Aardman cartoons
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
I love Aardman’s lovingly handcrafted stop-motion claytoons, but I never had any interest in their TV series Shaun the Sheep — spun out of the Wallace & Gromit short “A Close Shave” — and I see now that I wasn’t really missing anything. The first big-screen outing for Shaun and his barnyard friends is charming in that gloriously detailed Aardman way — down to the airplane contrails in the sky above and the visible fingerprints of the animators in the clay — but it’s strictly for the littlest tykes. Its simple story has Shaun, the small flock of which he is the nominal leader, and the drill sergeant of a dog,...

After a cameo appearance alongside Wallace and Gromit in A Close Shave, Shaun the Sheep found his way to the small screen for a Cbbc spinoff in 2007 and he's been quietly delivering the goods there ever since. The TV show plays out the characters' adventures in bite-size 7-minute instalments, but Aardman has now extended the concept to feature-length running time for Shaun the Sheep The Movie.
Though this might sound like stretching an idea thin, directors Mark Burton and Richard Starzack make it all work fantastically well, crafting a stop-motion animation packed with an abundance of wit, charm and invention.

Shaun the Sheep Movie is like curling up underneath a big cosy duvet with a steaming cup of sugary tea. Everything is precision engineered to enchant and amuse, dragging us into a paradise Britain fuelled by pleasant whimsy and running to clockwork comedy timing. From pastoral dale to bustling metropolis, this plasticine world (literally) bears the fingerprints of its loving creators. And at the centre of it all is a resourceful, brave and cunning hero: Shaun the Sheep.
The moment Shaun innocently padded on screen in 1995’s Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave, a woolly star was born. A breakout success, Britain clutched Shaun to their collective bosom and the sheep became a minor pop culture phenomenon. His lasting popularity led to a spinoff Cbbc TV show in 2007, which is now in its fourth season and has 130 episodes under its belt. It’s also broadcast in a whopping 180 countries and has even launched its own spinoff.

Shaun The Sheep: a full length movie feature. Peppa Pig: 15 minutes of new material, and some old episodes. Let battle commence...
Let's start with some history. The first episode of Peppa Pig screened back in 2004. It seems odd, given its proliferation on television and in the children's sections of bookshops, that it's only a decade old (and even then, it doesn't celebrate that birthday until the end of May). Yet ask any parent of a child under 10, and they'll likely know lots about the show. Not least how wonderfully useless Daddy Pig seems to be.
If you need any proof of how seriously we take Peppa around these parts, let this article be exhibit A.
In truth, I really like Peppa Pig. I think it's charming, the characters are fun, and it's a show that's got one of my kids in particular very interested in books from an early age.

★★★☆☆ Few would have expected, after debuting in classic stop-motion caper A Close Shave (1995) alongside claymation chums Wallace and Gromit, that a plucky young sheep would be headlining his own big screen gig two decades later. Shaun has become an ovine world-conqueror these past eight years in his own wildly popular TV series which has seen his appeal go global (he delights in over 180 countries, no less) thanks to his dialogue-free brand of universally accessible - and hilarious - mayhem. The Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) follows the path of least resistance, a feature-length episode that ups the ante and will appeal to audiences young and old with its knockabout British charm.

Aardman has turned its cottage-industry beginnings into a hugely profitable global enterprise. We take a look around the studio as Wallace And Gromit spin-off Shaun gets ready for the big time
Few multimillion-pound TV and film franchises can have accrued from a throwaway gag, but 11 minutes into A Close Shave, Nick Park’s third Wallace and Gromit short, when Wallace addresses a newly defleeced sheep as “Shaun”, a star – unknowingly, perhaps – was born. Twenty years, one Oscar and 130 episodes of Shaun’s own spin-off TV series later, a full-length feature film is about to emerge, with Shaun front and centre, which in all likelihood will reinforce the cultural supremacy of its makers, the Bristol-based animation studio Aardman.
Shaun the Sheep the Movie is Aardman’s sixth feature, and the first not to be produced in partnership with a major Hollywood studio. (French-based giant Studiocanal is the main backer this time.

Revenge‘s James Tupper recently told TVLine he wanted Emily and David Clarke to form a “badass double-ninja organization,” and it looks like he’s finally getting his wish.
New photos from the ABC drama’s midseason finale (Sunday, 10/9c) find the estranged duo teaming up, though their endgame remains a bit of a mystery. Aardman Animation made their mark on the world with their animated franchise, Wallace & Gromit. The tale of an inventor and his dog proved successful with global audiences, so they thought – why not have a sheepy spinoff? Shaun, who made a first appearance in Aardman Animation’s Oscar-winning stop-motion adventure A Close Shave in 1995, beat out Postman Pat who came in second in the ranking based on votes compiled by Radio Times magazine and the British Film Institute. Paddington Bear came in sixth on the list and was also named the favorite character from the 1970s,
