Paul Rudd is set to go toe to toe, voice to voice, with Nick Jonas for John Carney’s latest musical.
Carney’s “Power Ballad” stars Rudd and Jonas as two very different types of musicians: One is a wedding singer while the other is a rock star, and while the casting details over which actor is playing which character haven’t been confirmed, Jonas’ real-life rock star status must be influencing his performance.
Carney recently helmed “Flora and Son” and is set to direct the upcoming musical comedy that he cowrote with Peter McDonald. Principal photography began in Dublin at the end of April, with the feature billed as “an uplifting music-driven story about a wedding singer, a rock star, and the song that comes between them.”

Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story is producing along with 30West, which is also set to finance with Screen Ireland. As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

With things being so slow at the box office in the early going of 2024, you would half expect to hear people reporting sightings of tumbleweeds rolling across the floors of their local movie theaters. Praise to the cinema gods, May is finally arriving with a promising crop of tentpoles to help rejuvenate the marketplace, starting with director David Leitch's much-buzzed-about '80s series turned contemporary action-comedy "The Fall Guy" (you can read our own Jacob Hall's glowing review of the picture here). But never fear! If you're searching for something to watch at home, too, Netflix will provide in bountiful amounts.
Well, sort of.
Truth be told, next month is looking kind of sparse when it comes to Netflix exclusives outside the purview of shows with firmly established fandoms (see: the latest season of "Bridgerton") or the service's usual smattering of specialty offerings, including live comedy events and ongoing anime series.

With every role, Jason Bateman established and built on his legacy over the last four decades. Be it as a child star in the ubiquitous great American classic, Little House on the Prairie, or his status as a teenage heartthrob in Teen Wolf, or his dramatic achievement in the Emmy-winning Netflix series, Ozark, Bateman’s range, style, and talent has never failed to deliver on screen.

Being the current representative of the Hollywood action hero community, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has always stayed an arm’s length away from the villainous WWE persona that gave him his first taste of recognition and fame. But after a lengthy sabbatical and a worse-for-wear stretch in Hollywood, his eventual return to the ring was perhaps inevitable, and as such, one of the lesser brow-raising points of his career.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Final Boss [Credit: WWE]What did however seduce an already fascinated audience was the former People’s Champion’s resurrection as a heel, his readiness to brutality, and the sheer perverse enjoyment that he has (seemingly) derived from it. The Rock’s new persona, if not anything else, only proves how severely Hollywood messed up by exiling his evil façade in favor of a generic burly everyman hero obsessed with one-man rescue missions through tsunamis and earthquakes.

For someone who’s about to release a cautionary tale about the current state of America, Civil War star Kirsten Dunst is remarkably unfazed.
Alex Garland’s critically acclaimed action-thriller explores a near future in which our own present-day sound bites involving civil war and secession actually came to pass, and now rebel forces are inching toward commandeering the White House from its dictatorial president (Nick Offerman). Dunst plays Lee Smith, a seasoned and tenacious war photographer who reluctantly becomes a mentor to Cailee Spaeny’s aspiring photographer, Jessie Cullen. The duo are joined by Reuters and The New York Times reporters, Joel (Wagner Moura) and Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson), as the quartet journey from New York City to Washington, D.C., in order to document the armed factions’ descent on the Oval Office.

It's always a thrill when a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member comes back to Studio 8H to host the late night sketch comedy show. That's especially true when it's a cast member as beloved as Kristen Wiig. That last time the "Bridesmaids" star hosted "SNL" was in December 2020, and it just so happens the best sketch of the night was a new holiday favorite where she plays a mother who gets a robe for Christmas while the rest of the family gets a plethora of better gifts. However, since Kristen Wiig was hosting "SNL" for a fifth time this past weekend, she got a different robe. And she wasn't the only one.
While it's become customary for newly inducted Five Timers Club hosts to get monologue bits that bring back some legendary hosts like Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, it's not always logistically possible to make it a star-studded affair.

They might have eight Oscar wins between them, rave reviews from critics, a combined box office total north of $2.4 billion, and an adorable couple nickname -- but "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" have left at least one person decidedly unimpressed. Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Kristen Wiig returned to the show this week for her fifth time as host, and brought a familiar character with her: the Weekend Update desk's cultural correspondent, Aunt Linda.
With facial expressions worthy of a YouTube thumbnail, a haircut that screams "I'd like to speak to the manager," and some kind of accent, Aunt Linda isn't the type to just go with the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes. She (somewhat hypocritically) tears into the excessive amount of pink in "Barbie," queries the geographical location of Barbieland, and rejects the movie's feminist messaging. Ryan Gosling is the only sacred cow that doesn't get slain ("He's very hard...

WWE fans from around the world are tuning in for the biggest event in the wrestling world. WrestleMania 40 is currently underway in Philadelphia and is already well on its way to becoming a spectacular success. A big part of its hype is due to the presence of none other than wrestling legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson himself.
Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam
The action superstar was one of the marquee draws of the night when he returned to team up with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The icing on the cake was his historic win after an 11-year hiatus. But WWE buffs were concerned with footage that showed the possibility of The Rock suffering an injury, which was a reminder of a serious one he had during his confrontation with John Cena in WrestleMania 29.

"The beasts are coming." "There are beasts, too?" Netflix has revealed the first teaser trailer for a French adventure comedy movie titled Family Pack, and even though it has werewolves in it, it's less of a horror than it is an action movie. Made by a French filmmaker named François Uzan, not to be confused with the other French filmmaker François Ozon. When night falls, and the players have their eyes closed, werewolves make victims among the villagers. The film is based a board game (known as "The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow" from Zygomatic), and it's about a family that is sent back to medieval times when they start playing the game. Kind of like the Jumanji movies, where they get sucked into the game - but this has werewolves in it they must fight off. Family Pack stars Franck Dubosc, Suzanne Clément, Jonathan Lambert, Grégory Fitoussi, Bruno Gouery, and Jean Reno.

It is absolutely wild to think that Robin Williams got passed over for the part of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series because he wasn’t British! Now, while David Thewlis undoubtedly did justice to the character, one can’t help but wonder what kind of magic Williams could have brought to the role. Because one can never accept Williams to be a wrong choice for anything! The Harry Potter crew really missed out on something special with that one silly rule.
Robin Williams in Jumanji (1995) Robin Williams Was Denied the Role of Remus Lupin Because He Wasn’t British
Robin Williams, known for his extensive Hollywood career and a string of iconic roles, is often regarded as one of the few actors universally loved in the industry. Many would assume that Williams could land any role he desires.
However, that wasn’t the case when he wanted to enter the Harry Potter series.

So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: Wtf Happened to Andy Dick?!

Robin Williams was one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood, who was known more for his comedic roles. Films such as Jumanji, Dead Poets Society, and Mrs. Doubtfire have featured the actor and Williams’ presence has made them certified classics. The late actor was also known for his dramatic roles in films such as Good Will Hunting, for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

While Jack Nicholson ended up playing the role, Williams was rumored to have been considered by Kubrick before seeing him in Mork & Mindy. Most know Karen Gillan as Nebula in the MCU or from the newer Jumanji films. Or if you’re a weirdo like me you remember her from her great work in the third season of Ntsf:sd:suv. As her time as Nebula draws to a close, she’s been popping up in some really interesting Indie work. While her role was brief, she had quite the screen presence in last year’s Next Exit. And I’m not sure if you’re aware but Russell Crowe has been absolutely killing it lately. So I was very excited to see Gillan and Crowe team up for a new crime thriller.

Hollywood faces a significant imbalance when it comes to its stars. There are some actors like Adam Sandler who can’t separate the profession from real life and cast his friends and family as characters in movies. Then, there are others who vanish into a role for years, portraying their commitment to the art.
