For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit “Friday the 13th: The Series,” which aired from 1987 to 1990 – and did not feature Jason Voorhees in a single episode.
One of the best memories of my childhood involves five year old me, my four year old brother and my mom hunkering down in front of the TV on a Saturday with some jelly cookies, and putting on channel 11 to watch “Friday the 13th: The Series.” Since my mom’s idea of winding down is watching anything horror oriented, we were more than happy to oblige, and “Friday the 13th: The Series” offered up the proper level of scares to keep me invested but never frightened. The series debuted in October of 1987, and stars Canadian pop star and model Robey as Micki Foster, a young woman who inherits the antique store “Vendredi’s Antique’s” from her Uncle Lewis.
But this is no ordinary antique shop…...

This is not another shootout zombie flick. [spoiler alert!] It’s about the inner journey of a person on the run from his demons, real or not, from an unknown enemy, who may attack anywhere, anytime. Perhaps it’s the story of a victim, a brainwashed pawn, a scapegoat in a devious system, or perhaps it’s just …

The stories Yvette Manessi Corporon heard from her Greek immigrant grandmother while growing up were dramatic and mysterious. During World War II, her illiterate grandmother and a group of villagers on their tiny island of Erikousa (population 200) had risked their lives to save a Jewish family from the Nazis.
“I never knew the entire story, I knew that my grandmother risked everything to save them, and when my father was a little boy, he remembers the Nazis ransacked our house, saying, ‘Where are the Jews? Where are the Jews?’ ” Manessis Corporon, 48, tells People.

Steve Bannon once got top billing within Donald Trump‘s administration and served at the embattled president’s side during the early days of his leadership. Now, Bannon is saying goodbye to the White House.
“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed in a statement on Friday. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”
The news came as a shock to some considering the former Breitbart News executive chairman had served as the White House Chief Strategist and Trump’s senior counselor.

In descending order of awesomeness.
Last week came the ten second trailer trailer, and then Monday brought us the bonafide trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the somewhat anticipated (hey, let’s be honest here) follow-up to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, adapted from the The Secret Service limited comic book series, which answers a burning question you hadn’t thought to ask: “What if James Bond was a millennial?” The answer itself is not one that can be adequately summarized — it truly needs to be experienced — but suffice it to say it’s bloody good fun. Emphasis on the bloody. And the sass. A lot of sass too.

Long before he became the controversial White House Chief Strategist in the Trump administration, Steve Bannon decided to try his hand at the movie business.
Back in 1991, the 38-year-old Goldman Sachs vet hooked up with none other than Sean Penn to help produce the actor’s directorial debut, The Indian Runner.
Bannon, who was recently removed from the National Security Council, became a topic of conversation during an interview between Penn and Death and Taxes magazine. Asked about his time working with Bannon on the film, Penn offered a scathing review of the once-fledgling producer.

Stephen K. Bannon’s ascension from Breitbart News executive to President-elect Donald Trump’s chief White House strategist and senior counselor shocked the world, in no small part because the alt-right figure has no background in government management. However, it’s not the first time Bannon has attempted to lead an industry outside of his professional experience. Bannon’s new role may be an ideal platform for propagandistic ambitions, but his career in independent film — first in distribution, then production — casts doubt on how much he believes in any of it.
Ten years ago, Bannon oversaw the distribution of independent films released by Wellspring Media, a company that supported a wide range of international cinema as well as gay-themed and other “transgressive” titles. Movies acquired and released under his tenure include the experimental Lgbt documentary “Tarnation” and “Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry,” a pro-Kerry documentary that opened during the 2004 election.

The hugely ambitious Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has no shortage of classic episodes. And you'll find a few Klingons here too...
Spoilers lie ahead for Star Trek: Deep Space 9
See related Little Me: My Life From A-z by Matt Lucas review
Overlapping with both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's seven seasons had some very high points, It also had some very low ones that strayed a bit too far from the core of Star Trek for some fans, yet gave the show a unique texture that some savour.
If you only ever watch 25 stories from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, these are they, at least in my opinion – the only rule being that multi-part episodes count as one story (but great big multi-season Dominion flavoured arcs don't!)

Children chase a goat as an uneasy feeling intensifies in the latest brief clip for The Witch.
Written and directed by Robert Eggers, The Witch stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger, and Lucas Dawson. The film will be released in theaters on February 19th from A24.
"In this exquisitely made and terrifying new horror film, the age-old concepts of witchcraft, black magic and possession are innovatively brought together to tell the intimate and riveting story of one family’s frightful unraveling in the New England wilderness circa 1630.
New England, 1630. Upon threat of banishment by the church, an English farmer leaves his colonial plantation, relocating his wife and five children to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest — within which lurks an unknown evil. Strange and unsettling things begin to happen almost immediately — animals turn malevolent, crops fail, and one child...

With series 8 referencing 'heaven', Nathan traces Doctor Who's varied relationships with atheism and faith...
I was a massive Simpsons fan as a child. And when I say ‘massive’, I really do mean - huge. It’s still one of the more memorable moments prior to my wedding day: emptying out my childhood bedroom with my (now) wife, only for her to discover notebooks filled with minute observations about the show. Obscure number plates, birthdays of secondary characters, dates of key events and much more besides. Having already paid for the reception venue she couldn’t exactly retract her commitment to marry me, although my mind contemplated that possibility when she hyperventilated laughing at ‘little Nathan’, circa 1999.
My point is this: I wasn’t just a fan, I was an über-fan.
You might be asking, “what’s this got to do with Doctor Who?” - trust me, I’m getting there.

In Oculus, a young woman believes that an antique mirror is haunted and responsible for all the bad things happening in her life (her parent were murdered and her younger brother was institutionalized). Seems like a fair assessment to me: mirrors can be disorienting, deceptive, and objects in them always appear closer than they are. So it makes sense that they can also be evil.
In honor of Oculus’ release in theaters April 11th, I have identified five other horror properties that feature evil mirrors. This list is by no means exhaustive, and I avoided anything too obvious (aka - anything with “Mirror” in the title).
Friday the 13th: The Series (1988)
This old TV show from the 1980s was about cousins who inherit the antique shop of an uncle they never met, only to discover the antiques all carry a deadly curse. One of the objects was a cursed compact.

From washer women to harlequins via milkmen, Alex looks back over the Doctor's penchant for disguise over the decades...
So, we've finally had our first glimpse of Peter Capaldi in his new Doctor Who costume. My personal opinion for the record: It's functional yet stylish and could be the basis of something more elaborate over time. Importantly though, it is a bold statement of exactly who this new Doctor is. Identity is important to the Doctor, whether developing his own or assuming that of another to defeat his opponents in his continuing quest to bring his own brand of humanity to the universe.
With that in mind, let's revisit our favourite Time Lord's ability to disguise himself in order to outwit his opponents. I should state at the outset this isn't a definitive list of every disguise the character has worn. Every Doctor has...

Leela
Portrayed by: Louise Jameson
Doctor(s): Fourth Doctor
Tenure: 9 stories (40 episodes), from The Face of Evil (Jan, 1977) to The Invasion of Time (March, 1978)
Background: Leela of the Sevateem is a warrior from a tribe of humans who have, over time, lost the technology that brought them to their planet in the first place.
Family/Friends: Leela has father who dies during her first story, taking her place in a trial. Other than this, we know little of her immediate family, but we do get a sense of her community, and why she leaves, from this story.
Personality: Leela is fierce, bold, and combative. She’s surprisingly flexible to life aboard the Tardis, given her background, and she bonds quickly with the Doctor, who takes it upon himself to sand down her rough edges. As a warrior, her initial instinct in any given situation is to quickly and permanently shut down threats.

The Fourth Doctor
Portrayed by: Tom Baker
Companion(s): Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Leela, K-9, Romana I, Romana II, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan Jovanka
Tenure: 41 stories (172 episodes), from Robot (Dec, 1974) to Logopolis (March, 1981)
Signature look: Brown jacket, brown fedora, cravat, vest, big, curly hair, crazy eyes, and the iconic scarf
Catchphrase: “Would you like a jelly baby?”
Personality: The Fourth Doctor can perhaps best be described as alien. After the very human Third Doctor and Unit era, this new wide-eyed and unpredictable Doctor is a dramatic change and while each Doctor to this point is brilliant and clearly the smartest man in whatever room he enters, this incarnation is the first to embody that brand of genius that can keep any number of seemingly random threads whirling in their brain at a given moment, jumping between them at will and only later revealing to the rest of the room how they’re connected.
