The Long Game releases April 12th, 2024.
Inspirational sports films are a dime a dozen. Just like musical biopics, they follow a strict and unwavering formula that any self-respecting cinephile can predict long before settling in to watch. The key to their success is primarily in the execution of that formula. Thanks to a fantastic cast, a tight script and skillful direction from Julio Quintana, The Long Game is a worthy addition to the tried-and-true genre.

Rob Lowe has cut quite a path through primetime during the 20-plus years since he joined “The West Wing.”
He turned down “Grey’s Anatomy,” but landed in the ensemble of “Parks and Recreation.” He sold a show about chasing Bigfoot with his sons to A&e Network. From 2003 to 2018 he was also a regular or recurring on series “Code Black,” “The Grinder,” “Californication,” “Brothers and Sisters,” “Dr. Vegas” and “The Lyon’s Den.” Then there was the scene-stealing turn as a plastic surgeon in 2013’s “Behind the Candelabra,” and roles in U.K. episodic series productions including 2005’s “Beach Girls,” 2015’s “You, Me and the Apocalypse” and 2019’s “Wild Bill.”
Last year, Lowe landed his biggest hit yet as a TV leading man when he moved into Ryan Murphy’s orbit as the star of Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star.” In the spinoff of the procedural about emergency responders, Lowe plays Owen Strand,...

Growing up in Ohio, Rob Lowe realized at age 10 he wanted to be an actor, after seeing a community theater production of “Oliver!”
Armed with his intellect, drive and leading-man good looks, Lowe was destined for stardom. But as sure as his younger self felt the thunderbolt of inspiration, he knows he would never have scaled the heights of his profession, or found happiness as a husband and father, if he had not addressed his alcohol problem and gotten sober more than 30 years ago. It’s a job that is never finished.
“The only way to stay in recovery is to be honest with yourself on a minute-by-minute basis. No secrets, no double life. And you have to get real,” says the 56-year-old actor, who is busier than ever. “That’s what acting is all about — being real and being honest.
“The longer you are in recovery the more facile you are in getting honest.

ABC’s The Bachelor topped Monday in the primetime ratings as Matt James handed out another round of roses. The reality dating competition held steady with last week’s numbers with a 1.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, while 5.28 million viewers tuned in to watch James send another group of ladies packing. Numbers for The Bachelor and a repeat of The Good Doctor were enough to help ABC finish No. 1 overall in the demo on the night.
When it came to viewership, Fox topped the night with its franchise crossover of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star. 9-1-1 scored the largest audience for Monday night, though both series were down in the demo compared with last week.
On NBC, Ellen’s Game of Games was steady and The Wall (0.6, 3.18M) ticked up in the demo. The season finale of Weakest Link held steady.

The “9-1-1: Lone Star” gang was not alone last night, when regular ol’ “9-1-1” firefighters came to aid the Texas team in a Fox crossover. In the primetime event, Buck (Oliver Stark), Eddie (Ryan Guzman) and Hen (Aisha Hinds) helped out Capt. Owen Strands (Rob Lowe), his son T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and the other members of the 126 through an epic natural disaster — and some personal disasters as well. As a result, Fox drew the most total viewers again on broadcast TV last night, but ABC’s steady “The Bachelor” paved the way for another first-place finish in the key demo’s ratings. “Lone Star,” a spinoff of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear’s “9-1-1” series, grew week to week in overall eyeballs. It declined in ratings among adults 18-49. “9-1-1” slipped outright from last Monday. Also Read: '9-1-1' Star Aisha...

‘9-1-1’ Star Aisha Hinds on Hen and Owen’s Deadly ‘Lone Star’ Crisis, Bonding Over Incredible Trauma
(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Monday’s “9-1-1”/”9-1-1: Lone Star.”)
Henrietta “Hen” Wilson (Aisha Hinds) has gone through some pretty dark experiences on “9-1-1.” But one of the paramedic’s most horrifying moments came when she and a couple other members of the 118 headed over to “9-1-1: Lone Star” for Monday’s epic crossover event of the Ryan Murphy-produced Fox dramas.
During the hour, Hen gets way more than she bargained for by joining Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) on their mission to help other companies fight a massive wildfire in Texas. That disaster leads to yet another disaster when Hen and Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) of Austin’s 126 get stuck in a mineshaft after their rescue chopper crashes over the wildfire.
They use their time spent almost dying talking about how Owen recently lost a member of his team in a freak accident in the field,...

Austin’s Station 126 finally met some of the members of Los Angeles’ 118 on Monday’s “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which featured the long-awaited crossover with parent series “9-1-1.” The lucky few — or unlucky, depending on how you look at some of the things that happen during the hour — who get to make the 20-hour trip to help put out a massive wildfire in Texas are Buck (Oliver Stark), Eddie (Ryan Guzman) and Hen (Aisha Hinds), who almost immediately are split up into three different storylines connecting them with “Lone Star’s” leads.
And that aspect of the crossover was very important to Tim Minear, who is showrunner on both “9-1-1” and “Lone Star,” so that he could create the quick bonds among the two teams that would be necessary in order for them to join...

We can’t tell you what happens during Monday’s “9-1-1,” but we can tell you whatever it is leads to Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) packing up one of the 118’s fire trucks and heading from Los Angeles over to Texas to help out the “Lone Star” team for the Fox shows’ first-ever crossover episode.
But before Buck and Eddie can get their butts in gear, Hen (Aisha Hinds) decides she’s coming along for the ride.
In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek from tonight’s “9-1-1,” titled “Future Tense,” we hear a news reporter talking about the “raging fires” in San Angelo and that further counties, including the Lafd, have been asked to come help contain the flames.

It was good news for some and bad news for others on Monday.
We'll start with the good.
The Good Doctor inched up a tenth to match its highest-rated episode of the season.
The series had a 0.7 rating and 4.2 million total viewers.
Before that, The Bachelor had 5 million viewers and a 1.4 rating -- up a tenth week-to-week.
The reality series is still on the downside this season, but these numbers are still strong. It dominated the night.
Over on The CW, All American Season 3 Episode 3 came back down to earth, with 838,000 viewers and a 0.3 rating.
These numbers are still higher than all but one episode of All American Season 2.
Over on Fox, 9-1-1 (7 million/1.2 rating) and 9-1-1: Lone Star (5.8 million/1.0 rating) were steady with their season debuts, proving that they are a great match.

This will be a crossover to remember.
Fox on Thursday dropped the first trailer for the highly anticipated crossover between 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star, which is set to air as the third episode of the season for the latter show.
9-1-1: Lone Star Season 2 Episode 2 perfectly set up the crossover with the 126 dealing with a volcano eruption.
In a wild final scene, we learned that the lava would spark a huge forest fire that would require reinforcements from other states.
The clip shows Buck (Oliver Stark), Eddie (Ryan Guzman), and Hen (Aisha Hinds) making the jump to Austin, where they will join forces with Owen, T.K. and the rest of the 126.
It is poised to be a high-stakes mission for survival, not only for the civilians but for the frontline workers putting themselves in the firing line to save the lives of everyone in their path.

“The Masked Dancer” welcomes “9-1-1: Lone Star” lead Rob Lowe as a guest panelist for Wednesday’s episode and he arrives packing a fresh theory as to the identity of one of the remaining Group A contestants.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from the hour — which will see the playoff round between Cricket, Exotic Bird, Tulip and Hammerhead — “Masked Dancer” judge Brian Austin Green gives up on his previous assumption that the Cricket contestant is his good friend and fellow “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum Ian Ziering in favor of Lowe’s guess that the competitor is an Olympic swimmer.
“There’s another way to go. Looking at the enthusiasm, the personality, it’s not Michael Phelps — but it is Ryan Lochte,” Lowe says.
“I agree with Rob. Last time I thought right away, that’s my man Ian Ziering, because of the Vegas clues and the ‘90210’ reference.

The door is not closed on Liv Tyler returning to 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Tyler stepped away from the series last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which would have made things difficult because she does not currently live in the U.S.

"I think there are really interesting stories to be told about a first responder who, as we put it in the first episode, gave up her occupation to pursue her vocation. I think that's a very interesting story to tell."
Minear added: "Just like my dream...

Monday’s primetime was filled with season premieres, starting with Fox’s 9-1-1 and its spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. The Season 4 premiere of 9-1-1 delivered a 1.2 in the adults 18-49 demographic, a smidge down from its Season 3 finale, but the action drama did score a night-topping 7 million viewers. 9-1-1: Lone Star began its sophomore season on par with its Season 1 finale.
At ABC, The Bachelor took the top spot overall ratings-wise. The reality dating competition led into the medical drama The Good Doctor, which ticked up a tenth in the demo.
All American came in hot for its Season 3 premiere on the CW. The sports drama saw a two-tenths boost in the demo from its Season 2 finale, delivering its highest-rated episode ever. It also marked the series’ most-watched episode ever.

‘9-1-1’/’Lone Star’ Crossover Will Feature ‘Epic’ Storyline for T.K. and Buck, Ronen Rubinstein Says
(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Monday’s Season 2 premiere of “9-1-1: Lone Star.”)
T.K. Strand (Ronen Rubinstein) has a lot to be thankful for at the end of the second season premiere of “9-1-1” spinoff series, “Lone Star,” which revealed his father, Owen (Rob Lowe), is almost fully cancer-free and that T.K. is finally in an official, committed relationship with his Season 1 love interest, Carlos (Rafael L. Silva).
But even though “Tarlos” shippers might be happy for now, trouble is ahead for T.K. and the gang, as the closing moments of the Season 2 opener showed lava is coming into Austin, Texas and the promo’s for Episode 2 tease that not everyone at Station 126 will make it out of this next emergency alive.
But while we wait to see what trauma next week brings, TheWrap spoke with Rubinstein to get some details about what to expect in...

If you’re a regular consumer of TV news, you probably weren’t surprised when it was announced during Monday’s 9-1-1: Lone Star premiere that Michelle Blake (played by Liv Tyler) is no longer part of the team.
But while fans have had four full months to process the news of Tyler’s exit, it’s fresh on the minds of Michelle’s former co-workers, who apparently have conflicting feelings about her major life decision. The premiere revealed that Michelle stepped down from her position to focus all of her time and energy on helping mentally ill people living on the street.

Gina Torres’ Tommy Vega made her big debut on Fox’s “9-1-1” spinoff series “Lone Star” Monday, returning to Austin’s Station 126 as paramedic captain after eight years out of the game. Tommy came back to the job because her husband’s restaurant was forced to close due to the pandemic — not because she was ready to return just yet, as she loved her new gig as a stay-at-home mom to twins.
“She was older when she had these girls and she made the decision to hang up the uniform, a completely principled decision that a lot of women make, which is she wants to just be a mom,” showrunner Tim Minear told TheWrap. “Like, she wanted to make that her job. With new faces, crazy cases, and the same charm, 9-1-1 Lone Star is back, settled in, and has found its groove.
Most of 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 2 Episode 1 served as an introduction to newcomers Tommy Vega and Gwyn, and the additions of Torres and Edelstein (albeit in a guest-starring role) are seamless.
They have already added something distinctive to the series, and both of their characters round out the eclectic bunch of diverse personalities beautifully.
It seems we can't discuss our favorite series without addressing the Covid elephant in the room. Lone Star is a show that centers frontline and essential workers, so acknowledging the pandemic is a given.
However, while the show plays it a bit fast and loose with pandemic culture and protocol, the series addresses and references it often.
Rosewater: She abandoned us, Nancy. For some new rando captain who hasn't been on the job in forever.

After a decade of brawling in boardrooms on USA Network, Gina Torres is getting back into the field on 9-1-1: Lone Star, and she’s loving every minute of it. “As fabulous as it was playing Jessica Pearson, I feel safer climbing rigs and getting shot at than I did walking around in 5.5-inch stilettos for hours,” she tells TVLine.
That exact scenario unfolds in the Fox drama’s second season premiere (Monday, 9/8c) when Torres’ character Tommy Vega — who steps in to replace departing paramedic captain Michelle Blake (Liv Tyler) — takes part in a dangerous medical rescue mission atop a cell tower.

It’s not often that a show going into only its third season receives a spinoff, but such was the case with Fox’s popular first responder series 9-1-1. That Los Angeles-set series gave way to the Rob Lowe-starring 9-1-1: Lone Star, which premiered on Jan. 19, 2020.
The spinoff experiment was a successful one and now 9-1-1: Lone Star season 2 is set to arrive one year later. Perhaps there’s never been a better time for two simultaneously running shows about 911 first responders. Given the coronavirus pandemic and the general mounting crises of life in the U.S. over the past year, viewers may come to further appreciate shows about professionals during their best work under unimaginable circumstances.
As evidenced by advanced photos showing characters wearing masks, 9-1-1: Lone Star will be set in the pandemic-stricken world its viewers’ occupy. Not only that,...

One can’t help, when given the chance, to ask Gina Torres about her former “Suits” co-star Meghan Markle. Especially when it comes to talk of fans wanting a reunion of the USA Network legal drama. Markle observers wonder she’d sign on. “Yeah, keep waiting for that,” Torres tells me from her Los Angeles home during an interview for this week’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.” “I can honestly say, of all the people that have come in and out of my life, I worry about her the least.”
Torres returns to television this month on the second season of “9-1-1: Lone Star.” She stars opposite Rob Lowe on the Fox series, which was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as Paramedic Captain Tommy Vega. “He has all kinds of stories and has worked with everybody and has been in the company of everybody,...

ABC topped Monday’s primetime ratings starting with The Bachelor, which slipped a tenth from last week’s season premiere but still topped the night among the broadcast networks with a 1.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 4.58 million viewers. The Good Doctor followed with its return after a six-week break but hit series lows.
NBC’s Monday night of game shows was fairly quiet. Ellen’s Game of Games (0.5, 3.05M) was down from last week’s season premiere, while The Wall (0.5, 2.74M) held steady. Weakest Link slipped a tenth in its return.
Elsewhere, The CW aired its special All American Stories. CBS’ all-repeat lineup included The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, All Rise and Bull, while Fox served encores of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star pulled off two reunions at once when it tapped Lisa Edelstein to play Gwyneth Morgan, the ex-wife of Rob Lowe’s Owen Strand.
In the 9-1-1 spinoff’s Season 2 premiere, airing Monday, Jan. 18 at 9/8c, the 126 crew responds to a military tank on the loose in downtown Austin and a human pile-up at the roller derby. Meanwhile, Owen is reunited with Gwyneth — a powerhouse New York lawyer who comes to Austin in the wake of their son T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) being shot — just as he receives an update on his cancer.

It’s never a bad time to dramatize the very busy and dangerous world of 911 first responders. This year, however, Fox’s long-running drama 9-1-1 will prove particularly resonant. Fox announced that it had renewed 9-1-1 for season 4 back in April of 2020, which was right near the beginning of the United States’ struggle with Covid-19.
The show’s production experienced some delays before launching in October of 2020. Now, 9-1-1 season 4 is set to arrive soon, and will have plenty of dramatic ground to cover. This is all to say that yes: coronavirus will play a factor in season 4’s scripts, according to showrunner Tim Minear.
“The characters on the screen will have gone through what the audience has gone through,” Minear told TVLine. “There may be flashbacks that will show what our people went through at the height of the (pandemic), but by the time we resume physical production,...

Two 9-1-1 worlds will collide this February on Fox.
Per The Wrap, the highly anticipated crossover between 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star will finally see the light of day on Monday, February 3.
The bulk of the action will take place on 9-1-1: Lone Star, which makes sense because many of the 9-1-1 characters will be headed to Austin, Texas, where Lone Star is set.
Evan 'Buck' Buckley (Oliver Stark), Henrietta 'Hen' Wilson (Aisha Hinds), and Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) -- all from the original series -- will be a part of the action.
As for what they will face on the spinoff, we know the answer:
A huge wildfire.
It will certainly be fun to see the characters from two very different worlds meet and fight for survival.

An unprecedented surge in coronavirus infections and deaths in Los Angeles County has prompted numerous TV shows to delay their return to production following the holiday hiatus.
The studios are responding to an appeal by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, which urged the film and TV industry to consider pausing production for a few weeks during the ongoing surge in coronavirus cases throughout the county. Studios and streamers had been reviewing the logistics involved, including talent availability and whether cast and crew would be paid for the additional idle days. All productions have been following strict Covid-19 protocols since filming resumed.
Here’s a list of shows with their original planned return dates along with their new expected return-to-production dates. We will update the list as additional shows are announced.
Sony Pictures Television:
The Goldbergs (ABC) and Atypical (Netflix), scheduled to resume week of Jan. 4, now delayed by a week to Jan.

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.

After proving their worth against a Texas twister last season, the brave, well-moisturized men and women of 9-1-1: Lone Star will soon find themselves up against a slightly more explosive foe.
A just-released promo for the Fox drama’s second season finds the 126 dealing with a potential “mass casualty event” due to an apparent eruption of — wait for it — lava. Strand) and Oliver Stark (9-1-1‘s Evan “Buck” Buckley) along with the caption, “I wonder what that’s about?” Fans also did some wondering, including asking Minear if that picture was the real deal. “Oh, it’s real,” he replied.

Likely boosted by word of mouth following that shocking ending, the premiere of ABC’s new drama series Big Sky grew by +3.03 million total viewers and by +0.5 rating points among adults 18-49 from Live+Same Day to Live+3 Day to amass 7.2 million viewers and a 1.2 in 18-49 after three days of playback.
These are the largest playback increases for a new series debut in total viewers since September 2019 and with adults 18-49 since February 2020 — since ABC’s Stumptown on 9/25/19 and Fox’s Lego Masters on 2/5/20, respectively.
In 18-49, Big Sky‘s 1.2 L+3 rating makes it the highest-rated scripted series debut on any network since January among adults 18-49—since Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star on 1/19/20. The drama, from David E. Kelley ranked as No.1 among adults 18-49 in the Tuesday 10 Pm slot, a longtime problematic time period for ABC.

It's been one year since Hollywood faced a tsunami on 9-1-1 Season 3.
Now, the Fox drama has unveiled its first official trailer for its fourth season, and it introduces a new natural disaster for the characters to face as they try to keep the world safe.
So, what's on tap for 9-1-1 Season 4?
A mudslide!
While this may not sound as dramatic as some of the disasters on the show to date, the teaser released is pretty wild.
At the top of the clip, we have sightseers taking pictures for the 'gram next to the Hollywood sign, and the music is "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
Instead of getting a happy ending on their trip, they are forced to go on the run when a dam breaks and sends a wave of water down the hill.
Yep, that's how the mudslide comes into things, and we're not sure...

Mark Deklin stars with Catherine Bell in Meet Me at Christmas, airing tonight on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Mark has made a nice side gig for himself with Hallmark, starring in some of it's most memorable movies.
You know him best from Gcb, Lone Star, Devious Maids, and Designated Survivor, but he has a lot of very fun roles under his belt.
Mark has always seemed like a kind and adventurous guy, and that works very well on his behalf with his character in Meet Me at Christmas, Beau.
Mark said, "From my perspective as Beau, Beau is a very cool guy. He lives this very adventurous life. He's a world renowned travel and nature photographer. One of those National Geographic type guys who... Like a Jimmy Chin, one of those guys you'll see on the side of Mount Everest, or Machu Picchu or one of those cool exotic places.
