On 31 December 1900, in Paris, a man and his wife are slaughtered at home and only their daughter survives, and Inspector Lanvin promises to take care of her. Twelve years later, in Rome, there is a recently opened wax museum where the attractions are gruesome murders to scare the visitors. The client of a brothel, Luca, is challenged in a bet to spend the night inside, but he is murdered, and the police and the coroner believe he had a heart attack. The costume designer Sonia Lafont seeks for a job in the museum and the owner, Mr. Boris Volkoff, immediately hires her despite the objections of his assistant Alex. When Sonia is leaving the museum, she meets the photographer and journalist Andrea Conversi, who is investigating Luca's death, and soon they become lovers. Many people disappear in Rome, and the museum increases the number of wax statues and murder scenes. What is the mystery of the notorious wax museum?
