As we know, Wonder Woman 3 is no longer moving forward now that James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken over DC Studios, but it’s a choice Chris Pine doesn’t understand.
Chris Pine. who played Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984, told Business Insider that he was “stunned” when he learned Wonder Woman 3 had been axed. “I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
The actor had no expectations that he would have been involved in the third movie. “Me. No. Homie is dead. Steve is gonzo,” he said. “It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back.” Trevor was killed off in the first Wonder Woman...

Albert Pyun’s 1982 fantasy adventure The Sword and the Sorcerer may not be the most fondly remembered epic of its era, but it was wildly successful. In the early 1980s, the sword and soccer genre experienced a revival, with Hollywood anticipating that Conan the Barbarian, Universal’s mega-budget adaptation of the Robert E. Howard pulp novels would be the next Star Wars. It didn’t quite happen, but before it even reached theaters, dozens of low-budget Conan riffs were in the works. One that hit theaters first was 1982’s The Sword and the Sorcerer, which grossed a spectacular (for the era) $39.1 million, actually outgrossing Conan in North America by 1 million dollars (at a fraction of the budget).

With the exception of J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard is likely the most influential author in all of fantasy fiction, with his beloved Conan the Barbarian stories transporting avid readers to the thrilling days of high adventure. However, the character also has a surprising link to the horror genre due to Howard’s occasional use of Cosmic Horror elements, something that was at least partially influenced by his long-time friendship with H.P. Lovecraft. Luckily for horror fans, the man-eating beasts and indescribable Elder Gods of Conan weren’t the author’s only foray into spooky tales about steadfast heroes encountering supernatural terror.
Years before Conan first rode out of Cimmeria, Howard was already a well-known figure in the world of weird fiction because of his other popular creation, the demon-hunting puritan known as Solomon Kane. First published in 1928, the swashbuckling hero became incredibly popular with fans of horror and pulp adventures alike,...

If J.B Smoove had it his way, he’d cast himself as the lead in a biopic about the late comedian Dick Gregory. “In another world, another life, if I was 20 years younger, I would love to play that man,” says the Emmy-winning actor and stand-up comic. “He really had an amazing, fascinating life.”
Smoove (né Jerry Brooks) did a deep dive on Gregory’s life when he narrated the six-part Audible Originals podcast Funny My Way, uncovering the lives of six Black comedy legends: Gregory, Flip Wilson, Paul Mooney, Moms Mabley, Rudy Ray Moore and Redd Foxx. His performance has earned the Curb Your Enthusiasm star an Ambie nomination for best podcast host.
When Conan O’Brien — whose podcast production juggernaut, Team Coco, developed the show — approached him with the idea, the veteran comedian was intrigued primarily as a fan of the series’ legendary subjects. “It’s like what Mike Tyson...

In the ‘80s, probably more movies than you realize became animated series. Sure, The Real Ghostbusters and Disney’s spinoff series were prolific, but did you know even Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Beetlejuice, Bill and Ted, The Karate Kid and Back to the Future had cartoons? Those all make sense as they were family friendly films. But even some R-rated movies spawned kiddie cartoons.
Peter Weller | Orion Pictures Corporation/Sunset Boulevard/Corbis via Getty Images R-rated ‘Robocop’ movies had 2 animated series
The Robocop live-action films would eventually go PG-13 and include a child character in Robocop 3. But, there’s no mistaking the first two Robocops are not for kids. Still, the idea of a robot police officer could be kid-friendly, if you stripped it of the ultra-violence, profanity, corporate satire and Jesus metaphor.

China’s box office plunged back to its lowest levels in six months as the twin curses that have haunted the China film industry throughout this year – Covid restrictions and a lack of new releases – came back to haunt the latest weekend.
The top film, Japanese animation film, “Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween” dropped 71 in its second frame. And nationwide takings collapsed down to just 8.6 million between Friday and Sunday, down more than 60 on the previous weekend, according to data from consultancy firm Artisan Gateway.
“Conan” earned 3.4 million (RMB24.2 million) for a 12-day total of 16.9 million. Unchallenged by new releases, “Conan” held a market share more than double that of second placed film “The Tipping Point” with 1.3 million (RMB9.2 million). “The Tipping Point” has now managed 19.6 million after nearly three weeks on release.

When it was announced two weeks ago that Trevor Noah would be leaving as the host of "The Daily Show" after seven years on Comedy Central, his exit came without an official end date. As we've learned thanks to a news break from Variety, Noah's last hurrah will take place on December 8, 2022.
"The Daily Show" remains one of Comedy Central's flagship programs alongside "South Park," but Paramount Global has noted Noah's departure aligns with a new "reinvention" for the channel. The updated timing will allow Noah and the rest of the correspondents to travel to Atlanta for a final midterm-election special, as well as a look back on his history as host. Following his farewell, "The Daily Show" will take a short hiatus until January 17, 2022, with his successor. Noah's exit announcement was passionate and from the heart, calling the show one of his "greatest joys."

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column focused on comic sales in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us short, sharp reviews of the latest books to hit comic stores over the past month or so!
In the era of apps and websites that highlight the latest in speculative trends and sales across the comic industry, other than the annual market reports in the Overstreet Price Guide (and let’s face it most of those are written by American sellers) it’s hard to get a handle on what exactly is selling across the back issue comic market here in the UK on a monthly basis. So in an effort to let you know what’s been selling in The Unreality Store over the past month here’s the first of our market reports. Enjoy!

20th Century Fox bought the screenplay to 1985's "Commando" from "Teen Wolf" screenwriters Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman with the plan to slot Arnold Schwarzenegger into the lead role. Even after the big success of James Cameron's "The Terminator" a year earlier, Schwarzenegger saw "Commando" as a big deal. He explained why in Empire's oral history:
"'Commando' was a big step forward for me. I had only done 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' but now I got to play a gentle, loving father. He is also a fighting machine that will not stop until his objective is complete."
In the film, he plays John Matrix, a retired U.S. Army Colonel who must rescue his daughter (Alyssa Milano) after she's kidnapped by a group of mercenaries. The film allowed Schwarzenegger to showcase his wits and humor and served as the model for his macho, quippy one-liner films that followed.

Billy Eichner made history with his gay rom-com "Bros" from Universal Pictures, but if co-star Luke Macfarlane has his way, the stereotype-smashing comedy won't be the only venture in this world. While not yet available in theaters, "Bros" recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews, which had journalists on the scene already asking the cast and creative team about the possibility of a sequel. Following the film's red carpet premiere event in New York City, Variety spoke with Macfarlane about the future of "Bros" and learned that a sequel is certainly not off the table.
"Billy and I've been joking about [the possible sequel], I'm not sure what it would be," Macfarlane said. "The truth is, in any relationship, those early months are the best, and then the reality of life sets in and you got to figure out how you're going to spend all that time with somebody.

Picture the scene: A camera pans over the charred remains of what was once a large section of dense rainforest in the Central American banana republic of Val Verde. Suddenly, the cloaked feet of a Predator come into view. The alien hunter plunges a barely visibly claw down into the ashen ground where flora and fauna once flourished. A second later, the severed arm of a Predator is pulled from the shattered earth. The semi-visible Predator makes a bee-line for his fallen comrade’s wrist-based computer.
A read-out appears on its screen, detailing everything that led to this point. The replay stops on the image of a human face: it’s a face audiences know all too well from a decade of action movies. Right here and right now though, they know him as Maj. Alan “Dutch” Schaefer. Without saying a word, the Predator knows this is its next target.

Greetings from Variety Awards Headquarters! Today is August 12, 2022, which means final round voting begins today, followed by 10 days until final round voting ends on August 22. Then comes the finales: It’s 22 days until the Creative Arts Emmys kicks off its two-night event on September 3; and then it’s 31 days until the 74th Emmy Awards takes place, live on NBC, September 12.
We Have A Host! We Have A Host! And it was the most obvious — and perfect — choice for NBC this year. If Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers weren’t going to host the Emmys, why not turn to your other late night franchise — and this biggest of them all — “Saturday Night Live.” And if you’re going to mine SNL, then you gotta go with the Goat. Kenan Thompson, beloved by multiple generations and a staple on NBC, is a great choice. I’m looking forward to seeing who shows...

Jason Momoa’s filmography includes hits like “Aquaman” and “Dune,” but it also has one film the actor himself considers to be a “big pile of shit.” That would be “Conan the Barbarian,” the 2011 reboot that cast Momoa in the title role. The movie was lambasted by critics and bombed at the box office with a 63 million worldwide gross on a production budget in the 90 million range. Momoa recently told GQ magazine that the “Conan” film that got released was not the “Conan” movie he thought he was making.
“I’ve been a part of a lot of things that really sucked, and movies where it’s out of your hands,” Momoa said. “‘Conan [the Barbarian]’ was one of them. It’s one of the best experiences I had and it [was] taken over and turned into a big pile of shit.”
“Conan” was released on the heels of the first season of “Game of Thrones.

Exclusive: Amazon is developing a single-camera comedy set behind the scenes of a struggling national sports show.
Sidelined comes from comedians Emily Heller and Megan Gailey and Two Shakes Entertainment, the production company set up by Damon Wayans Jr. and Kameron Tarlow.
CBS Studios and Amazon Studios are producing.
The project is centered around the show as they decide to shake things up by pairing an unknown, passionate female sports fan with an irrelevant, former pro basketball “nice guy,” and what turns out to be their very complicated history.
Heller is a writer/producer on HBO’s Barry and has also worked on shows such as Search Party and People of Earth. She is under an overall deal at CBS Studios.
Gailey is a writer, actor, and stand-up comic, who has performed on Conan, had a half hour stand-up special on Comedy Central and made an appearance on The Tonight Show.

On June 29, variety show producers won their appeal with the Television Academy to bring back the fifth nomination slot in the Best Variety Talk Series category. The news was broken by our sister site Deadline, who revealed that “a group of high-profile executive producers went to the Academy to try and win back a fifth slot even though the number of submissions fell narrowly below the 20 they would need under its rules.” In all, just 19 shows submitted in the category this year, which would have yielded four nominations. But because the appeal was successful, there will now be five contenders. So what lucky talk show will nab that 5th Emmy slot, according to Gold Derby’s odds?
Let’s start with who’s out front. HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” has won this category for the past six years in a row, ever since “The Daily Show...

Exclusive: The late-night community has won back a fifth nomination slot for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards after a group of showrunners successfully campaigned the Television Academy.
It comes after Deadline revealed earlier this month that the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category was set to lose another nomination slot after only 19 shows were submitted.
Deadline understands that a group of high-profile executive producers went to the Academy to try and win back a fifth slot even though the number of submissions fell narrowly below the 20 they would need under its rules.
This week, the Academy amended its Primetime Emmy Awards Rules & Procedures. It now states that if a category receives between eight and 19 submissions, one must divide the number of submissions by four and round to the nearest whole number. This would give the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category 4.75, which rounded up gives it five nominations.
Emmy nomination-round voting ended Monday.

Conan the Barbarian is coming to Netflix…and we don’t mean its movie archive! Rather, the streaming giant is moving forward with a live-action television series adapting the swords, sorcery and loincloths-laden mythos created by Robert E. Howard, famously depicted as comic book art from Barry Windsor-Smith and cemented in history as portrayed onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Pathfinder Media, of Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler, have conceived the Conan television project, which has been put into development by Netflix, according to Deadline. The project stems from a deal between Netflix and IP owner Conan Properties International, yielding the streaming giant exclusive rights to the multimedia archives—be it books, television and films—to adapt as new works. Indeed, it’s a strategy that mirrors widely-encompassing exclusive deals Netflix made in recent years to produce serial adaptations of author Roald Dahl’s work, and comic book titles under Mark Millar’s Millarworld branding.

A live-action TV series based on “Conan the Barbarian” is in development at Netflix, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
The project is from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media. It is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, which is owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The two will serve as executive producers.
The series does not have a writer/showrunner or director yet. A search for those roles is underway.
Conan the Barbarian is based on the character by Robert E. Howard, who introduced the sword-wielding fighter in a series of short stories that were first published in 1932.
The character has been adapted in numerous forms, most famously by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982’s “Conan the Barbarian,” which was his first major role and rocketed him to international fame. He again played the character in the 1984 sequel, “Conan the Destroyer.

Exclusive: Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, I have learned.
I hear the project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.
The move would fit into Netflix’s strategy of acquiring globally recognizable IP to build an universe of films and TV series, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld.
A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media.

Alright, so according to a new report from Soaps.com,we're about to see Bill plot out a new, big scandal. If this scandal works, it could definitely put him back in the driver's seat at Spencer Publications. This is why Bill is going to needs some very specialized help to pull it off. That's where this new guy Ken will come into play. It's being reported by both Soaps.com and TVinsider.com that Bill is going to hire a tech wiz guy named Ken to hack into the Spencer Publications computer files in an effort to retrieve the incriminating recording that Liam has of Bill confessing to setting the Spectra building on fire. Obviously, if Bill can get his hands on it, Liam would have nothing to continue blackmailing Bill with. That would set the stage for Bill to return and take back his company. The big question...

Filmmakers often plan ahead, and many of the movies which come out each year are designed to be part of a multi-film series. However, it doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes, the first sequel bombs and the third movie never gets made. Here are 6 short movie franchises that remained unfinished.
There have been many successful franchises over the years. Franchises are a very hot thing right now. However, for every Star Wars, Dark Knight or Captain America franchise, there is a failed film series. Often these intended series will start off with an excellent movie but the second film will derail any plans for a third movie or beyond.
In no particular order, here are six franchises that never got past a second film.
Conan: Arnold Schwarzenegger starred as Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian warrior Conan in 1982’s Conan the Barbarian, which was a box office hit.

An appreciation of the rippled muscles of Arnold Schwarzenegger, from his Hercules days through to Predator...
Did you know Donald Trump's successor on The Celebrity Apprentice was once one of the biggest box-office draws in the world? Trippy, right? Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger became famous for his unique style and his fluctuating dialect, but he was picked for stardom for another reason entirely: he was a rippling, bulging slab of primeval, otherworldly manhood. The man was a titan, casting a shadow as wide as it was high. His fresh, smiling face and booming Austrian lungs were the perfect extras, but Arnold was thrust into the limelight because of his physique.
It was his earliest, formative years in which we saw Arnold's greatest flexes, when he relied on his jaw-dropping size for impact. In 1990 he would dominate both science-fiction and family genres, but it was in the years preceding this that his chest was most greased, skin most tanned and muscles most inflated. So let's think back, relive the carnage, and appreciate the 'King of Kings' in all his glittering majesty.
Hercules In New York (1970)
Seven long years before he starred in a breakout bodybuilding documentary, Arnie's 22-inch arms were breaking onto small screens in Hercules In New York. In Schwarzenegger's first real acting role, his unease is palpable. His thick Austrian accent (dubbed over in the film's original release) hasn't a spot of charisma and his performance is comparable to that of a re-animated corpse.
Schwarzenegger is Hercules, a demi-god sent to Earth. On his trip, he does all the things an everyday tourist does in the Big Apple: finds love, begins a career, flees pursuers in a chariot and chokes out a (man in a) bear (suit). He also finds time to fight off group of six men, using only a ridiculously long plank of wood, and best an Olympic-quality team of athletes at various track and field events. The film may have had a budget tighter than Arnold's shirt, but there is scant excuse for the lack of dimension or invention.
We are treated to Arnold's first show of size when his date shows him a poster for an upcoming Hercules picture. Our travelling deity is offended, claiming the actor looks nothing like him. Doing what any rational demigod would do, he strips off his cream turtleneck, revealing his chiselled torso. His audience-of-one loses her mind as he begins posing, before she realises what an insanely ludicrous thing has occurred. It's only the hindsight novelty factor that keeps Hercules In New York relevant.
Pumping Iron (1977)
Arnold was a star long before Pumping Iron. He was at the peak of his craft. At 28 years old, he stood at 6'2, weighed 240lbs and was a six-time Mr Olympia winner. He retired on top.
The most alpha of males, Arnold sashays through the documentary. Whilst some of his fellow competitors look like circus strongmen, Arnold is a walking sculpture, the perfect blend of symmetry and balance. Even starring alongside a real-life superhero, the Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno, he looks ginormous. The gap between his front teeth is the only chink in his man-made armour, but somehow he even turns that to his advantage.
The moment in which Schwarzenegger pops the loudest is in a moment of silence. As the documentary takes focus on the reigning champion, we are given a look behind the camera. A photo-shoot sets Arnold alight, as he poses and flexes in complete tranquillity. The only noise we are offered is that of the shutter, focusing our attention to the spectacle before us. In a film where some scenes feel uncomfortable to observe, at one point Arnold refers to Jesus as an inspiration for his legacy, this quiet moment of appreciation is a refreshing pause.
Conan The Barbarian (1982)
Refreshing pauses were seldom offered to us in the following years. Conan's story begins as 'a tale of sorrow', before the barely-dressed warrior embarks on a tale of revenge and retribution. Schwarzenegger's seductive ex-slave possesses superior sword skills, spinning, slashing and slaying a plethora of barbaric nasties.
At the film's most glorious, Conan and his collaborator take a stand against the villainous cavalry. With axe in hand and horns on head, Conan cleaves and slices. Though his weapon looks to be made out of foam and the enemies put up less effort than a pre-relegation Aston Villa, we are treated to a whirlwind of visual and verbal masculine aggression. What's more, we are given one of Arnold's earliest one-liners. In his first prayer, Conan asks his god to "grant me revenge, and if you do not listen, then to hell with you!" It's much better heard than read. This classic scene contained all the components that made his next breakout, muscle-bound feature such an enduring success.
The Terminator (1984)
It only took until 2029 for Arnold to hit the big time. James Cameron's "blazing, cinematic comic-book" (Variety's words) was the perfect vehicle for an emerging Schwarzenegger, as his role would rely on his frame rather than his command of the English language. The Terminator's unmoving grimace removes the need to portray emotion or reaction, but it is a skill few could pull off with such menace. Schwarzenegger is perfect casting: when he loses his eyebrows, he cuts the figure of a stone-cold killing machine.
The opening moments in the present day focus on a trash collector. Electric bolts awaken the workman from his boredom-induced coma, fizzing and zapping around him. They rally to a crescendo of light, producing a figure curled up in a foetal position. This figure is the T-800, a stark-naked Arnold; we see his arse before his face. He rises like the phoenix, striding into the light without a flicker of disorientation or embarrassment. We are slapped with a shady silhouette of his flapping member as he approaches a gang of ruffians, led by a young Bill Paxton, before he utters the now immortal phrase: "Your clothes: give them to me."
The T-800 swats one lackie away, before his jacked right arm lifts another overhead. This loiterer comes down without his heart, Cameron's camera hovering on Arnold's deep red, clutching hand. The T-800 is an instant threat, legitimately scary throughout, but it is in this brutal opening that he feels most deadly. It's not just Orwell who made 1984 special...
Commando (1985)
After playing a travelling god, a rugged caveman and a killer robot, Arnold was refreshed as a loving and devoted father. As John Martix, Schwarzenegger is a family man and a killing machine. These would come to represent the two sides of Schwarzenegger's coin: his films often worked best when the two went hand-in-hand. On screen he would mow down enemies with bullets and grenades, and later help his fictional daughter with her algebra homework. What a sweetheart.
And yet, in a film where hundreds of henchmen bite the dust, it is in his role as 'dedicated father' where he is the most impressive. Matrix had left his commando days behind, now taking care of his daughter, living a reclusive existence. Almost immediately, Schwarzenegger ripples; close-ups of his veined arms and chest are all too close, but remind the audience that Stallone is a boy scout in comparison. Arnold saunters toward the camera, carrying a huge tree on his shoulder like it’s a week's laundry. Schwarzenegger doesn't finish there. Not only does he handle the log like it's a twirling baton, he finishes the testosterone fest by turning it into kindling. A guy's got to keep that fire burning.
Predator (1987)
While Commando would eventually snowball into a cult classic, Schwarzenegger's following feature would prove the key to stardom. Even before Schwarzenegger stepped foot in the jungle, he met a fellow goliath. As Arnold's pumped-up mercenary Dutch is being briefed on his mission, a lone figure, sitting at a distant table, interjects. That figure is Apollo Cre… Carl Weathers; a man whose size and wit will match Schwarzenegger's all the way.
"Dillon!" Dutch gasps with childlike glee, before grounding his joy with the deprecating: "You son of a bitch." As Dutch and Dillon stride toward one another, their formidable forearms recoil before colliding into the most powerful handshake in cinematic history. The camera shifts focus from their gleaming smirks to the strained embrace. One second turns into five, the embrace morphing into competition, each man fighting in this mid-air arm wrestle. Five seconds turns to ten - the tension grows thick as Arnold toys with his rival. This contest lasts a full twenty seconds - twenty long, facial-hair-inducing seconds.
We may never recover from a scene that powerful.
The film soon hurtles into contact with the titular chameleon with barely chance to catch its breath. This lazer-toting, extra-terrestrial assassin is Arnold's ultimate nemesis, even down to the maniacal cackle. But, not even a foe this deadly could create a scene with the power of that handshake. Even in the film that popularised the full body mud-pack, the ass-kicking action and tension-mounting drama relies on the introduction Weathers and Schwarzenegger offer.
This theme would follow our Austrian actor. His greatest muscle-bound moments would come early, as an introduction, setting the tone and character in motion. As his career developed, Arnold proved he was much more than just unisex eye-candy, developing his aesthetic allure into real Hollywood charisma. Arnold would come to blossom in attracting a younger market, mixing action roles in Terminator 2 and Total Recall with Kindergarten Cop and Junior. Not only did Kindergarten Cop have no right to be as good as it is, but Arnold had no right to be so enjoyable to watch. His size became a point of contrast rather than one of awe, towering over others without menace but humour. He became his own character, a phenomenon for a reason beyond his look. He became the epitome of the American Dream, persevering and succeeding more than anyone thought he could. The ex-army tank driver would go on to ask in Junior, "Does my body disgust you?" and later become the Governor of California.
We've had some shallow fun, picking through Arnold's early years for his most outrageous muscle flexes. But it's worth remembering that Schwarzenegger's story is one of success through a lot of hard work and perseverence.
I'm just going to leave this here in case you feel motivated; I know I do...

One of my most anticipated projects for Arnold Schwarzenegger since it was announced several years ago is his Conan sequel. It's been awhile since we've heard anything about the project, and I feared it was dead because the actors box office draw isn't what it used to be. I'm happy to report that the new film project involving Robert E. Howard's badass fantasy character is still alive.
The movie was previously called The Legend of Conan, but the actor reveals that the title has gone through a change and is now called Conan the Conquerer, which is a name I can totally get behind! Conan the Conqueror was supposed to be the title of the previously planned sequel to 1987’s Conan the Destroyer. It looks like the title stuck with the actor after all these years.

As a massive Conan fan, I for one welcome a new feature length documentary digging into the story behind one of the most indelible characters of 20th century literature and film - Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian warrior/king Conan!

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to make his next non-“Expendables” franchise return to the big screen on July 1st with “Terminator: Genisys.” However, before the future Governator ever went back in time to kill Sarah Connor, he hefted a great sword in another epic '80s — and later — franchise. That series, of course, is "Conan," and it all began with 1982’s “Conan the Barbarian.” (Interesting side note — the first "Conan" film fared better at the box office than the first “Terminator” flick…and also the last “Expendables” outing.) Schwarzenegger’s first big franchise role — and the one that really catapulted him to wide renown (yes, “Hercules in New York,” I know) — Conan was and is a muscle-bound, sword-toting fantasy hero created by Robert E. Howard in the early 1930s. Schwarzenegger was unfamiliar with the character when producers Edward Summer and Edward R. Pressman first approached him about the film,...

She's been wandering in the wilderness for a good few years, but Red Sonja has just returned to her previous home at studio Millennium / Nu Image. Development has started over on a new Sonja movie, with up-and-coming writer Christopher Cosmos set to work on the screenplay.Sonja, is sort of a Robert E. Howard creation like Conan The Barbarian, but actually has more to do with Roy Thomas' Conan comics for Marvel. Howard's Red Sonya of Rogatino doesn't inhabit the same world or time period as Conan and doesn't wear a chain-mail bikini; it was Thomas that revamped her as the amazon sword-maiden we now recognise. She was previously embodied onscreen by Brigitte Nielsen in 1985, with Arnold Schwarzenegger also on-hand as the all-but Conan Prince Kalidor. Twenty-odd years later, Sonja reared her crimson head again, in a projected film that was to star Rose McGowan, with Robert Rodriguez producing and...

I've always found it interesting that back in the late '70s, '80s, and '90s, there were some R-rated movies that were being marketed to kids. It’s really strange to think about now because of how much Hollywood has changed over the years, and that's not really socially acceptable anymore. Hell, these day parents are pissed off about collectible adult toys for TV shows like Breaking Bad. Back in the day though, there were several R-rated movies that spawned kids toys and amusing cartoon series. A lot of these films were considered hard-r movies as well, full of crazy violence, bad words, nudity, and sex. These were movies that kids shouldn’t have been watching, but the companies decided to include kids in their target market anyway, which turned out to be pretty freakin’ cool for those of us who got to experience it. We don’t...

Fredrik Malmberg, the CEO of Paradox Entertainment, a company that currently holds the rights to the "Conan the Barbarian" franchise (originally created by pulp author Robert E. Howard), claims that the new 'Conan' movie, which is slated to star Arnold Schwarzenegger in the iconic role he made famous back in 1982, will actually/hopefully be the first part of a new trilogy. Good lord that's a lot of Conan!"We have a great story," Malmberg told The Arnold Fans (via Total Film). "Everyone loves it. This is a role that’s perfect for [Arnold] and he’s very involved with the whole Universal team. It’s the best team they have. Arnold has been very instrumental to bringing this together saying, ‘We gotta make a good Conan!’"Apparently the new film will disregard both the sequel, "Conan the Destroyer," which also starred Schwarzenegger, and 2011's abysmal remake. What it can't disregard,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's next movie is called "The Last Stand," but don't let the title trick you into thinking this is the action legend's final big-screen appearance. He has numerous projects in varying stages of development, such as "The Legend of Conan," Schwarzenegger's third attempt at bringing the Robert E. Howard creation to life.
"I'm excited too, because I've been hyping that idea to Universal Studios for quite some time," Schwarzenegger told MTV News during the "Last Stand" junket when we told him about our hopes for the next "Conan" movie. And in his eyes, it's not good enough to just lop off some heads and limbs and call it a day — the next "Conan" needs much more substance than that.
"The important thing with Conan is to make it into an A-movie, to treat it like a '300,' any of those good movies, rather than a B-action movie,...

Geek and Sundry, the producers behind The Guild web series, have recently launched a line of motion-comics based on Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan’s critically-acclaimed work on Dark Horse Comics’ latest “Conan the Barbarian” title. The series kicks off with Wood’s “Queen of the Black Coast” story arc, giving viewers a “bold, fresh take on the Cimmerian” and bringing to life one of the most-requested Conan adaptations to be published in recent years.
In this sweeping adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s fan-favorite “Queen of the Black Coast,” Conan turns his back on the civilized world and takes to the high seas alongside the pirate queen Bêlit, setting the stage for an epic of romance, terror, and swashbuckling. This is Conan as you’ve never seen him, with the combination of one of Robert E. Howard’s greatest tales and the most dynamic creative team in comics!

Ever since he left politics, Schwarzenegger has been lining work up like there is no tomorrow, the lastest of course 'The Legend Of Conan'. Deadline reports that the actor, who starred in 1982's 'Conan the Barbarian' and in 1984's 'Conan the Destroyer', will reprise his role as the Cimmerian warrior in The Legend of Conan, a new Robert E. Howard adaptation in the works from Universal Pictures. The movie will ignore the reboot from last year and 'Conan The Destroyer', so it will take up right where the first left off, with Conan sitting on his throne, but what has he been doing from then till now? Producer Frederik Malmberg has said this about the movie, “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing...

It seems like today is going to be full of "Wha-?!" moments, as Deadline has now revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to once again play Conan the Barbarian in The Legend Of Conan. He'll reprise the role of the Robert E. Howard creation after first playing the character in 1982. "The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make," producer Fredrik Malmberg told the site. "It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle." That means they'll be completely disregarding the 1984 sequel that Schwarzenegger starred in And the 2011 reboot. "This movie picks up Conan where...
