The Matrix. Risky Business. Memento. Midnight Run. Bound. Four Bad Boys movies. Joe Pantoliano (or Joey Pants – as everyone calls him) is one of the most successful and iconic character actors of our time – and that’s just from his movies! Let’s also not forget that the man played perhaps the most vicious Sopranos character of all time (the dreaded Ralph Cifaretto on twenty-one episodes). Indeed, Joey Pants has had a career like no other. I gotta say, it was truly an honour to chat with the man on Zoom in honour of this return in Bad Boys: For Life, with his character, Captain Conrad Howard, so popular that it looks like Will Smith himself pushed for him to return despite having been killed off in the last movie.
In our wide-ranging chat, Pantoliano talks about how delighted he is to still be making Bad Boys movies nearly thirty...

Andrzej Bartkowiak got his start in the entertainment industry working as a cinematographer, working on such films as Terms of Endearment, Prizzi’s Honor, Twins, Falling Down, Speed, Species, Dante’s Peak, The Devil’s Advocate, U.S. Marshals, Lethal Weapon 4, Thirteen Days, and Trespass. But back at the turn of the century he also got into directing, working mainly in the action genre: Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Maximum Impact, Dead Reckoning. His most well-known movie, for better or worse, may be the action horror video game adaptation Doom. Now Deadline has announced that Bartkowiak is treading back into horror territory, as he has signed on to direct the supernatural thriller The Dire Wolf.
Coming our way from Steelyard Pictures, The Dire Wolf has a screenplay written by Ry Cook and is expected to start filming in New Mexico soon, aiming for a 2024 release.

Everyone knows about the fabled and miraculous box office run of James Cameron’s “Titanic.” The film rode a wave of rave reviews, following months of bad press related to cost overruns, release date delays and behind-the-scenes melodrama, to a record-setting 600 million domestic and 1.8 billion worldwide total. Opening with just 28 million, it spent its first 15 weekends atop the domestic box office, still a record for consecutive Fri-Sun frames.
What of the films that perished in the first months of 1998? For three straight months, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s Oscar-winning romance/disaster feature sunk most of the competition. This was 1998, when big movies were not expected to open before the May-to-August summer movie season. The film that dethroned “Titanic,” an expensive, grimdark adaptation of “Lost in Space,” was itself a surprisingly “big” movie for its early April opening weekend.

Sometimes, it's quite easy to explain why a film is great. "John Wick" is great because of the action sequences. "The Muppets Christmas Carol" is great because of the unexpected pairing of Muppets and Michael Caine. But for some movies, it's basically impossible to pin down a single reason they're great. "The Fugitive" is a great example of this.
There are countless reasons why "The Fugitive" rules. For starters, it has a perfect cast led by two charismatic stars: Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, both in their prime. The two are excellent, whether playing off each other or carrying a scene on their own. Those two could make a movie about two guys taking turns reading the manual to an air conditioning window unit and it would be amazing.

It's probably fair to say that when "The Fugitive" came out in 1993, people weren't exactly demanding a big screen version of the '60s show; even the director and star said they'd never seen it. Even so, the gripping, intelligent thriller for grown-ups became a box office smash and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, the first TV adaptation to compete for the big prize.
The movie was a satisfyingly old-school nail-biter with its fair share of spectacular set pieces, but the highlight was the battle of wits between two very human opponents. Harrison Ford, just a few years after riding into the sunset as Indiana Jones, played a far more down-to-earth protagonist as a grieving doctor framed for his wife's murder, while Tommy Lee Jones won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as the dogged lawman on his trail.

Amanda Mackey, the casting director behind such films as Best Picture Oscar nominee The Fugitive and A League of Their Own and who earned an Emmy nom for The Normal Heart during a nearly four-decade career, has died. She was 70.
Her longtime friend and business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline that Mackey died August 27 in her sleep of myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer, at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn.
“Amanda was a singular force — fiercely intelligent, impeccably stylish, wildly passionate about ideas, the state of the world and her work,” Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline. “She loved her daughters profoundly and was an unwaveringly steadfast friend and champion in a time when women weren’t as supportive to other women as they are now. She believed in me, lifted me up and gave me a career. She was the sister I never had and changed my life in countless ways.

No one saw this coming: U.S. Marshals, the 1998 sequel/spinoff of 1993’s The Fugitive, skyrocketed on Netflix’s movie chart in 2022. It’s a strange development considering the movie’s age and how, frankly, irrelevant it’s been since it hit theaters. Yet its return to some form of cultural awareness—that is perhaps higher than when it came out two decades ago—is curious. How did this happen?
The most likely needle mover here is likely Robert Downey Jr., who plays a supporting role as hot-shot secret agent John Royce, who joins U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard and the old team on a manhunt centered on a highly-skilled escaped prisoner named Sheridan (Wesley Snipes). Sheridan’s been accused of murdering two of Royce’s fellow secret agents.
The ensuing pursuit thriller is a bit of a flop in many ways, but let’s keep the focus on Downey for a moment.

Exclusive: With their action thriller Beckett set to land on Netflix on August 13, Deadline sat down with star John David Washington and director Ferdinando Cito Filomarino to chat about putting together the story of an American on the run amidst political unrest in Greece.
Washington has had a remarkable 12 months, finding himself at the center of the streaming versus theatrical debate that exploded during the pandemic. Last summer, he was the lead in Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s time-bending action pic that was dubbed as cinema’s savior when it was released as theaters tentatively emerged from the first wave of lockdown closures. Later in the year, he starred opposite Zendaya in Malcolm & Marie, the entirely lockdown-shot feature that released on Netflix in January.

HBO Max has a major job on its hands to justify its approximately $15 a month subscription fee, especially given the strong competition out there from established names like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Disney Plus faced a similar challenge last year in arriving onto an already-saturated streaming marketplace, but at least had the advantage of major series like The Mandalorian to promote. While HBO Max will eventually be home to the Snyder cut of Justice League, and has some originals for its first week of availability, the big draw right now is its enormous back-catalogue of movies.
Given the various corporate elements that are going into HBO Max, including the Warner Bros. library, owners AT&T will be hoping that the combination of brand recognition for HBO programming, and a deep bench of movies, will convince people to add a new subscription to their list. To this end, HBO Max have added 122 films today,...

Welcome to the HBO Max era! WarnerMedia’s streaming giant arrived on May 27 and is absolutely bursting with Warner movies, TV shows, and other titles. But time waits for no man or streaming service and each new month HBO Max will be expected to bring new content to the table. Things get started in June 2020 with the first batch of HBO Max new releases.
To be clear, the majority of the original series coming to HBO Max actually belongs to HBO. Shows like I May Destroy You (June 7), Perry Mason (June 21), and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (June 28) all belong to HBO…which now just happens to be a part of HBO Max. Confusing stuff, we know, but rest assured that if you have HBO Max you’ll get these shows…and if you only have HBO, you can go ahead and just get HBO Max for the same price anyway.

Warner Bros. is bringing back The Fugitive film franchise, having tapped a director in Albert Hughes.
The Fugitive is getting a remake movie, in which we’ll undoubtedly be reminded of the notion that the embattled Dr. Richard Kimble didn’t kill his wife – even if an obstinate U.S. Marshal doesn’t care.
Warner Bros. has appointed Albert Hughes to direct a new big screen adaptation of The Fugitive, reports Deadline. The movie will manifest as a remake of director Andrew Davis’s 1993 Harrison Ford-headlined film, which, itself, was a reboot of ABC’s 1963-1967 television series. Hughes will work off a script by Brian Tucker, who wrote the script to the director’s Mark Wahlberg/Russell Crowe 2013 crime drama, Broken City, and will also be joined by producer Erik Feig.

As if being vexed by Prometheus isn’t enough, this week the team got wind of a new costumed crimefighter, dubbed Vigilante. (Zero points for creativity; where’s Cisco when you need him?) Of course and understandably, the mystery man’s M.O. stirred some debate among Team Arrow, seeing as he’s removing “scumbags” from existence. But Oliver argues that his colleagues can’t have it both ways, having recently...

It felt like everyone was part of the hustle on Blue Bloods Season 7 Episode 5 but some cons were more complicated than others.
First there was Karina who was conned by her own family into thinking she was a legal U.S. citizen. That left me with several questions. How exactly had she gone through her adult life without having to show a birth certificate, and even if she had a fake one, why didn’t her family show it now?
I wish we knew a little more about Karina’s background. On one hand, she seemed to be fighting for people who were being taken advantage of by a low life landlord, who, if my rusty Spanish is still any good, called her a whore, for which she slugged him.
Yet, Erin said she’d prosecuted Karina five times and she’d done at least 30 days in jail. Still, Karina...

How many members of the Irish Mob does it take to kill one former mob leader? And how many times can Kurt Weller's ex-girlfriend turned mother of his child be a pain in the behind? Those are the two primary issues at the heart of Blindspot Season 2 Episode 5.
"Condone Untidiest Thefts" feels like an effort to get Allison Knight back into the action. It's very convenient that she happens to be friends with the sister of the team's prime suspect Patrick O'Malley and that he'll only talk to her. Plus, when she tells Weller beforehand that it will be fine, that's TV's universal sign that things will not be fine.
Allison wasn't a likeable character before and she isn't now, constantly arguing with Weller on both the professional and personal fronts. Even if you set aside the plausibility of her being able to be involved in the case given her...

A review of tonight's Brooklyn Nine-Nine coming up just as soon as someone beats The Newlywed Game... After last week's episode focused entirely on Jake and Holt's time in Florida exile, part 2 of "Coral Palms" catches us up with the rest of the squad. The other detectives from the Nine-Nine have been through their own changes, like Boyle adopting a four-year-old son from Latvia named Nikolaj, but the biggest change by far was the arrival of Ken Marino (a The State reunion with Joe Lo Truglio!) as the latest interim captain, Jason Stenley. On the one hand, Stenley's incompetence in such a high-level job stretches even this show's boundaries of credibility, to the point where Boyle has to point out how little sense Stenley's promotion makes. On the other, Stenley's purpose in the episode is mainly to to get Santiago fighting with the rest of the squad over their acceptance...

'Long Overdue' Arrests Made of 2 Men, Now 65, in 1973 Slaying and Sexual Assault of California Girls
The families of two California girls found dead in 1973 have waited nearly 43 years for answers and justice. Authorities tell People they got some of that this week with the "long overdue" arrest of two suspects in the double homicide. William Lloyd Harbour and Larry Don Patterson were arrested Tuesday in Linda, California, and Oakhurst, Oklahoma, respectively, the Yuba County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Sheriff spokeswoman Leslie Carbah tells People the near-simultaneous arrests were coordinated to avoid having one suspect potentially tip off the other. The men are cousins, Carbah says. Harbour and Patterson, both 65, were 22 when they allegedly killed Valerie Janice Lane,...

Vin Diesel went live on Facebook this past Friday and revealed that the Guardians are going to be a part of Avengers: Infinity War, but he also revealed an interesting little piece of trivia about the Fast & Furious franchise.
First up, you probably know Diesel was reportedly beefing with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson over some ego-driven nonsense on the set of Fast 8. So when Diesel praised his fans for being loyal to him in that live video, I took it as a veiled dig at Johnson:
"Loyalty is not the common word out here in Hollywood most of the time. Sometimes I wonder if it even exists."
Hmm.
But on to the trivia. Diesel revealed that the role of Johnson's Luke Hobbs was originally meant for an entirely different actor:
"When the Letty character was killed in the fourth one...because of all of you, because of the petitions,...

The Wild West has been a long-held fascination in American culture, with hundreds of movies, books and TV shows produced around the subject. There has even been crossover with science-fiction before, with the beloved (yet short-lived) Joss Whedon show Firefly. Well now comes another Wild West fantasy series in the shape of Wynnona Earp – which is based on Beau Smith’s Idw comic of the same name.
The first two episodes of Wynnona Earp set up the story quiet succinctly: After a troubled adolescence spent in and out of juvie, following the death of her father and the disappearance of her older sister Willa, Wynonna Earp reluctantly returns to her hometown of Purgatory for the funeral of her uncle, which sets in motion a series of events that sees Wynonna claim her birthright – inheriting Wyatt Earp’s...
