X-Men: The Animated Series has a devoted fanbase, but it's not exactly considered a classic on the same level as, say, Batman: The Animated Series.
Regardless, we all had high expectations heading into X-Men '97 and the Marvel Animation series has absolutely smashed them. Perhaps the best take on these heroes we've ever seen grace the screen, Marvel Studios will have its work cut out when it comes to topping the show with its eventual live-action X-Men reboot.
In this feature, we're exploring what's worked so well in X-Men '97 and how that can translate to theaters. In other words, these are the lessons the next X-Men movie needs to learn from the revival, especially after 20th Century Fox's hit-and-miss (mostly miss) efforts.

Brian Cox is an iconic actor known for portraying the role of Logan Roy in the iconic HBO show Succession. Starring in one of the major roles, Cox portrayed the role for 6 years before the series ended in 2023.
With the actor portraying the role of William Stryker in the 2003 film X2, Cox revealed that he didn’t mind when Danny Huston took over the role for him. It seems that the actor, however, had a problem when the question about why he wasn’t selected again stuck with him.

Six years after "Deadpool 2" became a huge hit (technically Brad Pitt's biggest movie), we're finally getting a third entry in the wildly popular superhero franchise. This time, Ryan Reynolds is suiting up again as the Merc with a Mouth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a wild, R-rated trip through the multiverse. Not only that, he's also called upon Hugh Jackman to put on the claws once more, with the actor suiting up as Wolverine for the first time since 2017's "Logan." The resulting film is director Shawn Levy's "Deadpool & Wolverine," which figures to be one of the biggest movies of the summer. However, arriving at the story at the center of this superhero blockbuster was no small task, as it turns out.
In a new interview with Empire, it's explained that Reynolds first pitched a "'Rashomon' story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something that they got into together,...

Had Disney not acquired 20th Century Fox, it's likely we'd have already sat down in theaters to watch Deadpool 3 by now. Very little has been revealed about what the original version of the movie was, though we've heard Ryan Reynolds always wanted Hugh Jackman to return.
With Marvel Studios calling the shots, the Merc with the Mouth will now take centre stage in an epic Multiversal blockbuster. And yes, Wolverine will be by his side (this time in a comic-accurate costume).
Talking to Empire Online, Reynolds reveals that he originally pictured Deadpool 3 as a "Rashomon story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something that they got into together, but told from three completely different perspectives." He'd add, "It was a way to make a large-scale movie in a very small way."
We'd assume those perspectives were Deadpool, Wolverine, and a third mystery character, but when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige heard the pitch.

Hugh Jackman makes his anticipated return as Wolverine this summer, but while he is excitingly reprising a beloved role, many agree he also perfectly capped off the popular mutant’s journey in the future-set X-Men sequel, Logan. Logan told the story of a popular anti-hero aging into his older years as he became a more broken-down version of himself. Jackman may not be veering too far off from that theme as he is now set to star in a darker incarnation of the story of literary folk hero Robin Hood.
According to Deadline, Jackman and Jodie Comer are set to star in The Death of Robin Hood. Michael Sarnoski, who directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, will be penning and directing the retelling with Arrival and The Prestige producer Aaron Ryder on board to produce the film. Per Deadline, “The film is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale.

“Deadpool and Wolverine” is poised to be one of the biggest movies of the year thanks to the pairing of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who is returning to his iconic X-Men role for the first time in seven years. Jackman’s return is skyrocketing buzz around the comic book film, which is much needed for Marvel Studios after a rocky 2023 that saw movies such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” flop at the box office. It might come as a surprise, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed to Empire that he originally warned Jackman against playing Wolverine again.
“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back,’” Feige said. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with ‘Logan.’ That’s not something we should undo.’”

Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to social media to share a "homework assignment" for fans that may want a better idea of what to expect from the middle chapter in the three-part season finale, which airs on Disney+ next Wednesday.
DeMayo posted the cover to 1993's Uncanny X-Men #304, which marked the 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic mutant heroes, and the third chapter in the "Fatal Attractions" storyline.
Spoilers for Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1 and (possibly) Part 2 follow.
Though a few significant events occur in this issue that could inform the episode, we'd say it will most likely draw influence from Magneto's arc. Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1, Dr. Valerie Cooper frees Magnus from Bastion's prison, and the Master of Magnetism flies to one of the northern magnetic pole to manipulate Earth's magnetic field, using his powers to wipe...

X-Men ’97 is all set for its finale, which began with the first entry in a three-part saga with X-Men ’97 Episode 8, Tolerance is Extinction Part 1. There were a lot of stand-out moments from the episode, but the chief among them was when Magneto was able to escape from Bastion’s clutches and emit a global Emp that rendered the Prime Sentinels of the world and global the electrical grid dead.
Magneto in X-Men ’97
Seeing that Magneto had a very uneasy peace with humanity when he took over from Charles Xavier and that he declared war thanks to Bastion’s actions, the X-Men could be headed to a particularly brutal fight with the Master of Magnetism, one that could directly result in the emergence of a terrifying foe, who could be the antagonist for Season 2 of X-Men ’97.

Despite his two mega-smash movies under 20th Century Fox, the Disney-Fox takeover brought up all kinds of questions about what would happen next. Was there a place for him in Kevin Feige’s MCU? Hugh Jackman will be making his comeback as Wolverine in this year’s only MCU release, Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor last essayed the role in 2017’s Logan, which saw Wolverine die after being the last X-Man in a post-apocalyptic future. However, this time around, the portrayal is a little different, as Hugh Jackman will be essaying the role for the first time in a comic-accurate costume.

Hugh Jackman sat down to talk with Empire about his experience with the costume, which might have been a tad bit too similar to what the fans experienced the first time they saw the costume.

As we explore the emotional landscapes of Avengers: Endgame and Logan, we become entangled in a web of raw emotion and cinematic gravitas. Who can forget the sight of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine—a character who has sliced his way through hardships since before some of us took our first steps—finally succumbing to mortality in Logan (2017)?
And yet, how can we ignore Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) sheer heroic brilliance in finding peace in a sacrificial climax in Avengers: Endgame that touched the hearts of millions? Pepper’s gentle words to Tony signaled not only the end of his character’s arc but also an era.
However, this does not imply that Wolverine’s death will be blanked out by Stark’s sacrifice, as the former takes the top spot in our soul as the most heartbreaking superhero death.

Magneto of "X-Men" has one of the most brilliant backstories in superhero comics — they almost made a movie entirely about it. He was once a young Jewish boy when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Captured and dehumanized, he suffered at concentration camp Auschwitz like so many of his people. He survived but it convinced him that hatred is as natural to men as breathing, and so he fights to ensure the prosperity of mutantkind. This backstory was not part of Magneto's original conception (Chris Claremont added it in 1981's "Uncanny X-Men" #150), but you'll be hard-pressed to find a writer who hasn't embraced it since.
"X-Men '97" certainly has. In episode 2, "Mutant Liberation Begins," when Magneto is tried before the United Nations, he recalls how he was first put on his path when his people were slaughtered because "they called God by a different name.

The superhero movie renaissance has had a few absolutely perfect casting choices, and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is one of them. He might be taller than his comic book counterpart, but Jackman's performance as the brawny, growly, metal-clawed mutant was crucial to the success of the original "X-Men" movie trilogy. It's no wonder that his Wolverine has had three solo spin-off movies, including the critically acclaimed final chapter, "Logan." It's equally unsurprising that Jackman has been unable to resist returning, despite saying farewell to the character, for the upcoming threequel "Deadpool & Wolverine."
"For five years, I was really honest when I said, 'I'm never playing that part again, I promise you,'" Jackman has previously insisted. In a new interview with Empire magazine, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige revealed that he once urged Jackman to stick to this conviction:

These characters are set to be incorporated into the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were labeled as “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels.’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ will bring Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, into the MCU continuity. As time passes, it becomes more evident that we are approaching the reboot. Therefore, we’ve compiled everything we know so far.
The studio is said to be seeking a mix of drama and comedy
Very little is known about the upcoming project’s plot, but the studio has recently ramped up its search for a writer.

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
“Tastes like chicken.” If that phrase brings to mind the evil mutant the Blob chowing down on the Wasp’s corpse, then the ending of X-Men ’97‘s eighth episode, “Tolerance Is Extinction Part One,” should send shivers down your spine.
After all, Magneto’s decision to attack the entire planet Earth in X-Men ’97 has a lot in common with the inciting event of Ultimatum, the 2009 Marvel event that somehow made the already grim and edgy Ultimate Marvel Universe even grimmer and edgier, to very mixed results.
The connections between Ultimatum and “Tolerance Is Extinction Part One” only stand out more when one considers all of the many cameos in the episode, which showed that anti-mutant bigotry isn’t just limited to the X-Men, but it affects the entire Marvel Universe.
Here’s a breakdown of all the cameos in the star-studded episode...

Who would have thought that a superhero series could look like a mix of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? It would seem that in the superhero world, where the game was turned upside down many years ago by Daredevil and Jessica Jones, nothing could surprise the viewers.
But there is a man named Noah Hawley, who has already managed to turn the near-perfect Coen Brothers movie Fargo into an excellent modern series of the same name. But Hawley didn't stop there – he made a show from the X-Men universe that doesn't play by the rules of the genre, and follows its own strange logic.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer recently dropped, and we’ve seen everything from nods to comic storylines to an overwhelming amount of cameos about to appear in the movie.
The movie sees Deadpool as he is set to return to his crime-fighting tendencies after he is recruited by the Tva to stop his reality from collapsing. Wade will attempt to talk Wolverine into helping him, but judging by the trailer Wolverine will be more than reluctant. The movie will introduce Cassandra Nova to the MCU as the primary villain as well as continue the Multiversal Theme of the MCU.
Considering that the reactions to the second (and the first) trailer were overwhelmingly positive plenty of fans were surprised that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is set to return to filming, undergoing a last-minute round of reshoots. Naturally fans worried, but such things are extremely common and so close to the release date, it...

The recent trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has revealed a lot, from nods to comic storylines to numerous cameos expected in the film.
In the movie, Deadpool is recruited by the Tva to prevent his reality from falling apart, prompting him to return to crime-fighting. He tries to persuade Wolverine to join him, but it seems Wolverine is not keen, as shown in the trailer. The film will introduce Cassandra Nova as the main villain of the MCU and will continue the Multiversal Theme of the MCU.
Given the overwhelmingly positive reactions to both the first and second trailers, many fans were taken aback by the news that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is undergoing last-minute reshoots. Naturally, this raised concerns among fans, but such occurrences are quite common, especially so close to the release date. It doesn’t necessarily indicate any major changes to the story being made.

As long as there have been X-Men movies, Wolverine has generally been front and centre. While the adamantium-clawed mutant isn’t the team’s leader – nor usually central in the comics or cartoons – Hugh Jackman’s incarnation of Logan became the focal point of the original X-Men trilogy, as well as several Wolverine spin-off films (including deeply emotional send-off Logan), and timeline-hopping crossovers like Days Of Future Past. But even amid all those outings, there’s still fresh ground to be covered in Jackman’s long-awaited return to the role. Yes, he’s donning the claws again – years after thinking he was done for good – in Deadpool & Wolverine, teaming up with Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With A Mouth for a Marvel movie like no other.
And, as he tells Empire, it brought plenty of fresh opportunities with it – including getting to wear the character’s iconic yellow get-up in the flesh for the first time.

X-Men ’97 has been peppered with controversy over its characters, but creator Beau DeMayo proudly acknowledges the changes he brought into the show. Even though he was fired from the project days before its premiere, he continues to keep an eye on the series and even responds to fans’ comments.
Disney+’s X-Men ’97
As an openly gay man, DeMayo claimed that the series’ story was informed by his own experiences in life. There’s no wonder why there are some queer characters in the show, which of course, elicited divided reactions from the viewers.

On top of all the issues concerning X-Men ‘97 characters, a fan posted on Twitter a risky Magneto photo and captioned it with “#XMen97 was definitely written by a gay man.” Surprisingly, Beau DeMayo replied to it with a simple “Guilty” answer.

According to recent reports, reshoots for Deadpool and Wolverine are currently underway, and could continue until the end of the month.
Additional photography is pretty much the norm for any major studio blockbuster, but some fans still tend to assume the worst. While it's true that reshoots can often alter significant plot points/character arcs, more often than not, it's something much more trivial.
According to Daniel Richtman, the D&w reshoots are mostly to add even more cameos. Marvel Studios and director Shawn Levy are pleased with the movie, and aren't attempting to "fix anything."
There's been some concern that the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut is already shaping up to be too much of a "cameo fest," so we're not sure how well this update will sit with fans - although we've heard that most of the surprise appearances will happen during the same sequence, which might...

In the vast cosmos of fandoms, Marvel and DC stand miles apart despite both sharing several similarities. Yet, fans of the two are often embroiled in clashes and rivalries, arguing over a plethora of things and blasting each other off. However, one particular figure, Zack Snyder, has often united the two fandoms. Not because of his talent and work but because fans love to hate the ingenious filmmaker for his feat in the DC universe.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was a changed show in its second season. In its early days, the Marvel Television series suffered from an identity crisis. Season 1 started out trying to emulate co-creator Joss Whedon's previous work, yet it played as a pale imitation of shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and especially "Firefly," following a ragtag team of misfits on weekly adventures in their flying home base. However, the one-two combo punch of Whedon stepping away from the series and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" blowing up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's status quo near the end of season 1 proved to be just the creative boost the show needed.
Upon returning for season 2, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had gained a newfound confidence. Its characters began to take on greater dimensions, it really embraced the idea of being a show about everyday people trying to keep the world safe, and it even started...

Pixar has given the world some of the most successful animated films of all time. Near the top of the list is 2009’s Up. One of the most iconic parts of the movie is the main character’s house, which is able to fly up into the air thanks to thousands of helium balloons tied to the roof.

Challengers and The Fall Guy prove that the movie star is still alive – and can make a huge difference to a film’s success. A few thoughts…
The movie star is dead. Or at least our idea of stardom may have drastically changed. After streaming has become a credible rival to cinemas, it’s not so much star power that necessarily gets people to spend their hard-earned money on a movie ticket. Sure, the Swifties ran to the cinemas to watch The Eras Tour, but Taylor Swift is hardly a movie star, despite her turn in Cats.
Ana De Armas blames social media for the lack of movie stars. “I feel like the new generations don’t have that concept, because of social media,” de Armas told Vanity Fair in 2023. “There is so much information out there and oversharing. The concept of a movie star is someone untouchable you only see onscreen.

The debut of Episode 8 of ‘X-Men ’97’ marked the commencement of its three-part finale, advancing the overarching narrative while also featuring a notable cameo. Christopher Barnes’ Spider-Man made a surprise appearance following Captain America, sparking fan speculation about the integration of ‘Spider-Man ’94’ into the continuity of the new ‘X-Men ’97.’
Previously, it was established that all Marvel Animated series, while not aligned with the MCU canon, belong to the broader Marvel Animated Multiverse. This categorization holds merit, given the significant disparities between the older and newer shows, offering a logical framework for their coexistence.
After Episode 8 aired, well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman asserted that ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ all inhabit a shared universe.
All Of These Animated Shows Take Place In The Same Universe:
•“X-men ‘97”

Previously, it was established that all Marvel Animated series, while not aligned with the MCU canon, belong to the broader Marvel Animated Multiverse. This categorization holds merit, given the significant disparities between the older and newer shows, offering a logical framework for their coexistence.
After Episode 8 aired, well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman asserted that ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ all inhabit a shared universe.

The release of ‘X-Men ’97’ Episode 8 Started the three-part finale, and of course, advanced the overall story of the show, but it also included one notable cameo. After Captain America, Christopher Barnes’ Spider-Man showed up in the show, which prompted fans to conclude that ‘Spider-Man ’94’ is truly canon to the new ‘X-Men ’97.’
It was stated a while back that all Marvel Animated shows, despite not being canon to the MCU, are part of Marvel Animated Multiverse, and that definition is truly sensible and logical, since the older shows (and by extension new shows) contradict each other in quite a lot of ways.
Now following the release of episode 8, notable industry insider Daniel Richtman stated that ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ are all set within the same universe.

Zack Snyder’s Dcu tenure can be best described as an ambitious effort cut short due to the very divisive reception of his films. While Snyder believed he was pushing the boundaries with the storytelling and doing something new with the characters, it did not satisfy fans. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did little to excite core DC fans.
A still from X-Men ’97
One of the most infamous scenes from the latter was the Martha scene, where Superman tells Batman to save his adoptive mother before he kills him. The scene has become the butt of jokes over the years, and now X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo is the latest to poke fun at the memefied scene.

A few weeks ago, X-Men '97 delivered its most devastating episode to date when the master Mold Sentinel was unleashed on Genosha and killed countless mutants.
Tragically, Gambit was among them. However, following Cable's arrival in the present day, the prevailing theory among fans has been that time travel will ultimately be used to undo Bastion's attack and likely bring the fan-favourite Cajun mutant back from the dead.
Today's episode of X-Men '97, titled "Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 1," appears to dispel that notion once and for all. We learn that Cable has travelled back in time to the attack on Genosha countless times, only to be temporally pulled away from the event before he can stop it.
To that, Beast says, "Strange, the mystics of Kamar-Taj speak of absolute points.

Airbnb is doing a new thing called “Icons” where they offer special locations or events. One of their offerings is a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning from ‘X-Men ’97.’ They are also doing one of the house from “Up” complete with crane lifting!
Let’s take a look at both offerings! X-Men ’97 House.
The home is in New York, overlooking New York City. It has been transformed into the “cartoon” by using a hand-painting technique to mimic 2-D art.
The experience includes:
“• I’ll lead you through new student orientation (don’t worry we’ll get to the fun stuff fast).
• Enter Beast’s totally gnarly lab! It’s like a science playground where you’ll be able to power-up with mutant energy elixirs.
• Take a class in the Danger Room, where some of our combat professors will teach you how to improve your fighting skills...

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" follow.
You may not remember that the original "X-Men" cartoon from 1992 kicked off a flurry of '90s Marvel cartoons sometimes known as "The Marvel Animated Universe." This universe is less well known than the contemporary DC Animated Universe ("Batman: The Animated Series" up to "Justice League Unlimited"). The DC cartoons were overseen by a single creative team, so the connections were organic and culminated in story arcs. The Marvel cartoons, though? They all aired simultaneously (rather than in succession like the DC ones) and had different creators, so the most intersection was occasional crossovers.
"X-Men '97" remains laser-focused on the marvelous mutants, but it hasn't been shy about including cameos from other corners of the Marvel Comics setting. Episode 6, "Lifedeath – Part 2" featured Ronan The Accuser (you might remember him as the villain in "Guardians of the Galaxy"). Episode 7, "Bright Eyes," saw Rogue butt heads with Captain America.
