Sidney Poitier's First on-screen appearance
This ten minute Army training film was Poitier's debut on screen. It was shot in 1948, the same year Truman issued his executive order to desegregate the U.S. military. It is unclear as to whether the short was used by the military as a tool to ease tensions but the religiousity of the title cannot be overlooked. Poitier makes brief mention of his participation in the film in his autobiography "This Life" saying he was paid $100 for three days work.
