Outbreak: The Mutation Volume Two in the Trend-Bucking Zombie Trilogy, Releases a Deadly, Unstoppable Zombie Horde on the World—Hailed as “A Frightening, Violent, and Gory Un-Dead Story”
Masterfully crafted by Scott Shoyer, The Mutation, the powerful second volume in the Outbreak trilogy, continues to break the stagnant mold of zombie fiction as it ensnare and brings readers along in a deadly last chance attempt to save the world from complete annihilation. The Mutation takes place two years after a deadly virus swept across the world. Not only does Shoyer have his readers follow two groups of people as they fight for survival, but he again takes readers where they have never been before—this time on a horrifying trip inside the minds of the deadly zombies themselves. The Mutation is intense, violent, and brings the genre back from the dead.

April is a banner month for Rob Zombie, who made two bloody splashes in one week: last week not only marked the theatrical release of his long-awaited feature film The Lords of Salem (check out our Salem interview with Rob here), but he also rolled out his fifth full-length solo album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, the first release on his own label Zodiac Swan. The follow-up to 2010's Hellbilly Deluxe 2 is a strong career move for Rob, who opted to dig deeper and tap into his late '90s roots in White Zombie, namely the legendary Astro-Creep 2000. HD2 was still a cool album in itself, and a solid sequel to Rob's career-defining solo debut, but the Z-man has wisely chosen to diversify his style while balancing his old and new musical strengths on this project. Zombie's signature sound has certainly not been overthrown for anything radically new here, but the...

Rob Zombie has debuted his new video for the first single off his upcoming album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor. “Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown” is the name of the rocking tune and it may be one of the best songs Zombie has written in a Long time. Music fans may be curious to know that former Marilyn Manson band members John 5 and Ginger Fish are now part of Rob Zombie’s line-up and can be seen in the video. As you would expect from the musician turned director, the video is directed by none other than Zombie himself. A gangster midget and a break-dancing skeleton are some of the colorful characters on display in this black and white video. And because it seems like he can’t do anything without his lovely lady, Sheri Moon Zombie is featured prominently as well. The album is scheduled...

In a Facebook update this morning, Rob Zombie announced that shooting is now complete on the music video for “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown,” the first single off his upcoming album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor. Rob didn't divulge the visuals yet, but declared it to be “pretty fucking cool," and added "For all of you hoping for an old school weirdo style Zombie video… well, you are gonna get it. Big time!” The editing process is about to begin, and Rob said the video should premiere soon. Rob also recently revealed in an interview with Revolver magazine that Venomous Rat was originally conceived as a concept album, and may become a movie itself. “I was getting obsessed watching things like Tommy, The Wall [and] Quadrophenia, where you have a movie to go with the album and it's a whole big concept. So I thought I'd write this...

For years, guitarist John 5 – formerly of Marilyn Manson's band (rejoining them temporarily for last year's Manson/Zombie “Twins of Evil” tour) and an acclaimed solo artist – has been an integral part of Rob Zombie's sound, having been Rob's official guitarist since 2005's Educated Horses. His talents are so intertwined with Rob's work that he was tapped to compose the original score for his much-anticipated film The Lords of Salem, which hits theaters April 19th. That very same week, you'll hear John's mighty axe swing again on Rob's next full-length studio album, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor. John has stated that his first gig as composer was both challenging and rewarding: “It was like 10 times the intensity of writing a record,” he says. “It took months and months, as the timing is key to each scene. The music was very challenging and sometimes there was no key signature or time signature for this music,...

Dana Fredsti is writer and an actress with a background in theatrical sword-fighting. She has appeared in Army of Darkness and her love of the undead has resulted in Plague Town, a zombie novel that will be published this month.
We found out that she was interested in writing an article for Daily Dead and thought it would be interesting for aspiring writers. Continue reading to learn about how she got started writing zombie stories, how her stories have changed, and why there is still plenty of room for new zombie fiction:
“One of the questions I get asked a lot in reference to Plague Town is why I chose to write about zombies, especially when the market is so apparently glutted with books and anthologies on the subject. Haven’t zombies jumped the shark?

Another year is coming to an end. Where does the time go? Seems the older I get the faster the time goes and there is no surer sign than that of me getting into the E-Reader game.
I finally broke down and bought a Kindle this year and no the world didn’t end. In fact I am very happy I did. I will first and foremost always love the feel of a real book; the fragrance, the crisp clean pages being turned and the weight of it gently held in my hands.
The Kindle has allowed me to read the back catalogs of many authors I love that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able afford to do. Plus, a lot of publishers and authors are sending me Kindle books for review, which is a lot better than Pdf’s. As I had to print the Pdf books out.

Author: Kevin J. Burke.
The Last Mailman is a zombie genre book from Permuted Press, which was recently re-released November 8th. This is author Kevin J. Burke's first novel and this book is one part action read and one part comedy. Unfortunately, the comedy is left behind in the first half of the book, but there are still some tongue-in-cheek moments later. Overall, this is a fairly average novel set in a zombie apocalypse as Burke tries to find his style in a action packed first outing.
The Mailman enters the undead riddled landscape to find possible survivors. Usually, he just finds more zombies as an infection has spread across the globe. There are infertility issues too. So, fertile men are recruited to do the deed with the mostly willing. Meanwhile, a cure for zombie bites has been discovered in Atlanta,...

Don't ask me why I've avoided covering id Software's Rage for so long. I mean, what's there not to love about a post-apocalyptic, mutant mashing shooter from the creators of Doom and Quake? Well, our buddies over at G4 have got the hookup with a new video showcasing just one of Rage's mangled metropolises. Check out Dead City after the break. There are a few things to glean from this video: one, that id's Tech 5 engine is gorgeous, rendering every last particle of irradiated dust to perfection. Second, that the AI of the enemies seems remarkably thoughtful. Sure, they're not rocket scientists (they're blood-crazed mutants, after all), but there's some genuine thought...

"Rage" is looking seriously sweet. Bethesda Softworks invited a bunch of journalists out to see its upcoming slate of games last week, and as the embargoes start to lift this week we're seeing all sorts of new promotional content to go along with the previews. Such as the new trailer, embedded after the jump, featuring five minutes of gameplay pulled from a mission to... Dead City. (cue evil Vincent Price laugh)
Right? Just a whole lot of awesome going on there. Boomerang-y spinning blades, some kind of arrow-firing slingshot, a giant mutant-thing with a tire strapped to its back. Sweet.
Bethesda also released the first pre-order details for the upcoming id Software-developed game. Anyone who pre-orders in the United States will receive the "Anarchy Edition," which packs in a ton of extra content in the form of weapons, armor, vehicles And missions.

Flesh Eaters is Joe McKinney's third novel set in the Houston area, where several hurricanes have left residents without their homes and most of their hope. This title recently released in paper back form (April 5th, 2011) and the novel's plot puts two families squarely against each other, while a zombie styled apocalypse threatens to wipe both clans from the face of the earth. The result is a triple threat, as a natural disaster, moaning cannibals and bank robbing police officers each vie for your engrossed attention.
However, there is a central difference between Eleanor, a police sergeant and Mark Shaw, a career officer and captain. The latter character, while honourable in his attempts to save survivors, is centrally motivated by avarice. Eleanor is less externally motivated...

Dead City is Joe McKinney's first novel and this book started at least a four book trend, with Apocalypse of the Dead, Flesheaters, and King Zombie to follow. Published first in 2006, the version reviewed here is a 2010 re-release, with chapters from Apocalypse of the Dead added. Dead City follows Aristotle's three unities: unity of time, unity of place and unity of action. The unity of the material is not in question, but the novel's lack of deeper characterizations, or insights into the central protagonist are. Some fans will enjoy all the simple run-and-gun, in a zombie filled San Antonio; however, this reviewer started to wonder what the greater purpose was, in all the violence.
Eddie is a beat cop, with a young family. He is on duty when the usual bums and low-lifes turn into man-eating vessels.

"Fallout 3" provided an example of how to do great downloadable content. Each Dlc pack managed to expand the universe while staying true to the franchise's roots. True, it was a bit slow going, with the first pack, "Operation Anchorage" failing to meet the high expectations set by the main game, but in the following packs, things just got better and better. "Fallout: New Vegas" may be following that trend, as its first pack, "Dead Money," shows promise but still comes up short.
The Basics
"Dead Money" is set outside of the familiar Mojave Wasteland, in and around a mysterious casino known as the Sierra Madre. As the story goes, the Madre has been sealed since the bombs fell and no one has stepped through its doors in hundreds of years. After hearing a radio signal beckoning visitors to the long-forgotten casino, you're more than eager to try to crack it open.

Of all the '60s-era TV shows, it's hard to think of one that translates less well to the 21-century than I Dream of Jeannie. Sure, the story of a subservient female genie who wears skimpy clothes, lives in a bottle, grants her boyfriend's every wish and calls him “Master” was a huge hit in its time. But now it's difficult to see how any remake could be anything but a feminist nightmare. Not that that has kept Hollywood from trying.
The long-stalled I Dream of Jeannie big-screen adaptation is apparently back on again. The project has been in the works for years with everyone from Jessica Alba to Lindsay Lohan considered to star. Concepts from the writers of National Treasure and Mulan and the director of Bend It Like Beckham have all fell through.
