Several scenes in the movie were shot inside New York's Henri Bendel department store. So as not to disrupt normal business, motion picture equipment was brought in at closing time and filming would go on all night. When customers arrived at the store each morning, all traces of the production had vanished.
Sarah Michelle Gellar stated that this was one of her least favorite films she had been in.
The original title for this movie was "Vanilla Fog."
The female lead was supposed to be middle-aged, according to the script, but was rewritten to be a 20-year-old so that Sarah Michelle Gellar could be cast. The studio wanted to cash in on Gellar's popularity as the result of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997).
