“I was outside digging a grave,” quips Lil’ Punkin at the start of our call. He’s running a few minutes late, perhaps a little out of breath, but slides into the conversation. Lil’ Punkin joins Norman Crates, and DeepKutz as we talk all things spooky and macabre.

Gordon T. Dawson, who parlayed a stint as a costumer for Sam Peckinpah into a career as a writer and producer with credits including The Ballad of Cable Hogue, The Rockford Files, Bret Maverick and Walker, Texas Ranger, has died. He was 84.
Dawson died March 6 in West Hills Hospital of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his family announced.
A former firefighter, Dawson spent three months in a Columbia Pictures basement using a blowtorch, paraffin and glue to age the principal soldier uniforms for the Peckinpah-directed Major Dundee (1965). When the extras’ costumes did not match the ones Dawson had prepared, Peckinpah shut down production on the first day of shooting.
Dawson was summoned to the set in Mexico to age the other costumes, noting in the 1993 documentary Sam Peckinpah: Man of Iron that he was “terrified” to meet the intimidating director. He needn’t have worried, though; Dawson fixed the other costumes,...

A title to track at Match Me!, a large networking event, “Purgatory” promises a study of the frontiers between faith and superstition, conviction and manipulation.
The project will be produced by director-producer Pau Calpe and Nati Escobar at Spain’s Galápagos Media and co-produced by Xavier Crespo at Dacsa Produccions. Calpe has just directed “Tros,” a Film Factory-sold drama thriller.. Galápagos has been recently involved in the co-production of Icíar Bollaín’s “Yuli.

MTV Documentary Films has acquired worldwide rights to “Krimes,” the new non-fiction feature by award-winning filmmaker Alysa Nahmias. The deal comes before the film’s screening at Doc NYC on Sunday.
“Krimes” had its world premiere at the Heartland Film Festival. It chronicles the story of a clandestine masterpiece by an incarcerated artist. Isolated in a segregated environment where personal expression is verboten, 26 year-old artist Jesse Krimes covertly creates conceptual art during his six-year prison sentence. His work includes a large-scale mural made out of bed sheets, newspaper and hair gel. Jesse’s detailed crafting of this artwork provides a mental escape from the dehumanizing surroundings, while inspiring connections in unexpected places. With the help of fellow artists, he smuggles out individual panels of his work piece-by-piece to avoid being caught with contraband, only seeing his artwork in totality after coming home. His creations, Apokaluptein: 16389067 and Purgatory, mark his experience...

Well, every streak comes to an end eventually.
The third season has been excellent so far with its story-over-style storytelling.
Unfortunately, American Gods Season 3 Episode 4 chucked that into the water.
It's a shame, too, because it would have been worth examining more of what Bilquis revealed about herself.
But instead of an in-depth exploration of her roots and how important the African gods were to the enslaved around the world, we got stylistic flashes hinting at the depth we would have enjoyed.
That's the reason I wasn't a fan of American Gods Season 2. American God Season 1 had the tone well established. The story unfolded with intricate and stylish embellishments. By the second season, the embellishments took over the narrative.
I'm holding out hope that this is not the way the remainder of American Gods Season 3 will unfold.
Again, it's all a shame because there was some good stuff here that...

Intimacy can take many forms, and Wynonna Earp excels at depicting many of them. From hot lesbian sex scenes to sisters sharing their vulnerabilities with one another, this soft-yet-gory show is filled with examples of people letting each other in, and it’s riveting as hell.
While starcrossed lovers Wynonna and Doc have not always let their walls down for one another, their relationship has been pretty steady this season. In this sneak peek from Sunday’s episode, titled “Holy War Part One,” we see them getting closer than they normally do to discussing some much-avoided sensitive subjects. And also Doc Holliday pulling an Edward Cullen as one of his new (or maybe not so new?) hobbies seems to be watching Wynonna sleep. #vampirestereotypes Check it out…
Um, I love this scene. In it, we learn that Doc doesn’t sleep and that Wynonna sleeps with a pistol under her pillow.

Life is never boring for Wynonna Earp.
Whether she's being strung up on the street and subsequently arrested for murder or participating in a chili cook-off for her freedom or even being kidnapped by shady government operatives, we never know what life will throw at Wynonna next.
Unfortunately, the writers threw one too many things at our favorite badass heroine, which, in part, made Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 3 just like her chili: somewhat of a hot mess.
After the revelation that 18 months had passed at the end of Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 2, the sky seemed to be the limit.
There was so much to be explored -- how Nicole had fared during the year and a half, what exactly happened to Purgatory since Wynonna, Waverly, and Doc had been gone -- and while the episode did touch upon those issues, we never got firm answers.
Wynonna: This is a Russian doll of suckage.

What the heck is going on in Purgatory?
How did a ghost town become something out of The Handmaid's Tale in just 18 months?
Whatever's happened, things aren't looking great for our heroes after Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 2.
One possible answer to this question is Eve, who seems to be shaping up as this season's Big Bad.
Like the Garden, she's pretty different than the description offered in the Bible.
From the brief time the audience spent with the character, this Eve is an angry shapeshifter who was hellbent on getting out of the Garden, which makes sense if she had been trapped in that prison for eons.
Waverly: Whatever you are, Doc’s gonna kill you.
Eve (as Nicole): Save your heteronormative hero hogwash for humanity, sweetie, which incidentally I preclude by eons.
Waverly: Just say you’re old, you pretentious bitch.
Eve (as Nicole): I am a nightmare unto the world,...

They say good things come to those who wait.
Well, Earpers, I guess we must have been pretty good because Wynonna Earp finally returned after two years.
While we wish it hadn't taken that long, Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 1 went a long way toward making up to viewers during those torturous months when they were deprived of their favorite snarky, generally badass (former) heir and her demon-fighting friends.
Starting with Wynonna, on the surface, she seems like her same old self -- confident, brave, always quick with a joke, willing to do whatever it takes to save her friends and family.
And even though she's still very much Wynonna Earp, she's also struggling with who she is at her very core now that she's not the heir anymore.
Being the Earp heir has been her main identity throughout the entire series.
She may have loathed it at times, but it...

Warning to all revenants: She's back. After nearly two years off the air, Wynonna Earp leaves behind TV purgatory and returns to...well, Purgatory, with the titular heroine back to defend her hometown for another season. The path to getting the Syfy fan-favorite back on the air was a bit of a bizarre one. The cable network renewed the show all the way back in 2018, just one day after season three premiered, but when the time the show would normally return to production came and went, it was clear something was wrong. The Challenge is gearing up to wrap one of its most dramatic seasons to date.
Total Madness, the 35th season of the venerable reality series, is airing Wednesdays at 8/7c on MTV, and with the finale inching closer, it's time to take a look at who has the best shot of winning.
The series typically flips the script on contestants ahead of the finale, and there's a good chance it will pull off a similar feat this year.

Without one of the most coveted skulls in the game, you have no shot of running in the final.

That played into the elimination in Purgatory, where Dee had an opportunity to get rid of Jenn herself, but instead had...

The Magicians has been a force of nature from the very start, growing a loyal audience and weaving a tale that bridged our world with the storybook land of Fillory and has become more and more complex ever since. Given its massive appeal, including our glowing reviews over the years, the anticipation was high for the return of season 5, which turned out to be the show’s final season.
The logline for The Magicians season 5 spoke of plenty of magical mayhem that was in store:
Last season, magic was saved, but at a terrible cost: the life of Quentin Coldwater, who died heroically to save his friends— and the world. Julia, Alice, Eliot, Margo, Penny and their friends (and frenemies) must learn to navigate a world without him. Now, a new threat has arisen: in freeing magic, the balance tipped the other way and there’s too damn much of it,...

Alison Brie is the producer and star of Netflix's feverish new drama Horse Girl. Brie plays the titular horse girl Sarah, a socially awkward woman who spends her days working at an arts and crafts store called Great Lengths and her nights binge-watching a supernatural crime show called Purgatory. She has a roommate (played by Insatiable's Debby Ryan), who doesn't quite understand her, and a close coworker (Molly Shannon) who tries her best to.
When Sarah is suddenly plagued by a string of lucid visions so surreal that she can't tell her dreams from reality, we're taken along on her haunting and emotional journey - one that encourages us to help Sarah distinguish what's real and what's in her head, exhibit empathy for her struggles, and reflect on our own self-truths. Horse Girl delves into mental illness and psychoticism so deeply that the audience has no choice but...

Do you know that romantic-comedy cliché in which the mousy young woman whips off her glasses — and suddenly the brainiac “ugly duckling” blossoms into a beautiful swan that turns heads and gets the guy? That’s not what happens to the title character of Horse Girl, though for the first 15 minutes or so of Jeff Baena’s movie, you assume some variation of this is lurking just around the corner. Our heroine, Sarah (Alison Brie), is single, sweet but slightly socially awkward, and works at an arts & crafts store. In her off hours,...

Alison Brie had an interesting task with “Horse Girl”: She had to write a script for the drama, but given that it’s mostly an improvised film, they had to be very specific in describing the actions of the characters.
“Almost all was improvised except for the TV show in the movie, ‘Purgatory,'” director and co-writer Jeff Baena told TheWrap’s Steve Pond at the Sundance Film Festival. “That was completely scripted.”
“It was certainly different for me this time around having written it together,” Brie added. “Basically, we created a very detailed 35 page outline, and the scenes are thorough — they talk what the characters come in and talk about. It’s pretty complex, there are major objectives that people have to get across in scenes, so it’s pretty specific. Then we start out shooting a wide shot, and then workshop the dialogue in the first few...

Whenever a TV show that has gone on for long enough ends in a planned finale, it’s typical for many of its previous supporting characters to make cameo appearances, and the very final episode of Arrow was no exception. In fact, here’s a full rundown of everyone who was featured.
First off, there’s Team Arrow. The group has varied in size and members over the years, but its current lineup of Diggle, there from the very beginning, and Dinah, Laurel and Rene, each a fixture since season 5, were the ones to see it through to the end.
The episode’s flashbacks were an appropriate choice given their prominent use in the show’s narrative, and allowed for Oliver’s participation in the finale. This being his show, it would feel wrong for its ending to not feature him, despite him being dead. The first brought us back to season 2 episode “Seeing Red,...

A funny thing happens about a third of the way into “Horse Girl,” Jeff Baena’s fourth Sundance feature after “Life After Beth,” “Joshy” and “The Little Hours.” Or rather, a funny thing stops happening: the familiar, steady-heartbeat rhythms of the low-budget social awkwardness comedy become erratic, tachycardiac, as the initially endearing foibles of the film’s heroine, Sarah (a revelatory Alison Brie), are found to have deeper roots and more painful ramifications than feels right to laugh at. It’s the point at which we realize that “Horse Girl” is not your classic, hackneyed Sundance indie and is instead a far weirder, harder and sadder subversion of just that stereotype. It’s the point at which the movie stops being cute, and starts being good.
The setup is such a convincing red herring though, that for a while it functions just fine as your standard offbeat dramedy, laden with...

January’s home media releases are ending on a high note, as there are a bunch of great titles headed to Blu-ray and DVD this week. My very favorite film of 2019, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite is making its debut on both formats, and if you missed it in theaters last year, Terminator: Dark Fate is hitting multiple formats as well.
For those of you who dig totally bananapants filmmaking, Tammy and the T-Rex is being released this week courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome. Vs is also keeping busy with Berserker, Beyond the Door 3, and Unmasked Part 25, and Scream Factory is bringing home Body Parts, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, as well as a Steelbook Edition of The Slumber Party Massacre, too.
Arrow Video has put together a special edition release of Edge of the Axe, and the Warner Archive Collection is showing some love to the criminally underseen Two on a Guillotine.

In addition to spawning an entire superhero universe on The CW, Arrow‘s accomplishments include bringing weekly close-quarters clashes to broadcast TV, as Oliver Queen and friends faced off against all manner of foes.
On the occasion of Arrow‘s series finale (titled “Fadeout” and airing Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 9/8c, following a one-hour preview special), TVLine invited stunt coordinator-turned-producer and director James Bamford — who this season alone has helmed the premiere, the action-packed “Purgatory,” and the series finale itself — to survey the 170 episodes gone by and offer up his list of the Top 25 Fights.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” has been an exhilarating ride for DC fans, but it’s also somewhat bittersweet as it marks the end of an era. In a couple of weeks’ time, Arrow is coming to a close with the conclusion of its shortened eighth season. The ever-sprawling franchise that is the Arrowverse wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for the initial success of the Green Arrow’s solo show, so it was only fitting that “Crisis” climaxed with the death of Oliver Queen.
Following the airing of the two-part finale last night, star Stephen Amell took to Twitter to share a poignant message about why he decided to hang up his quiver for good. “8 seasons and an entire Universe seems like a pretty good time to step away.” Amell wrote. “What a ride.”

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” concluded last night, with the final two episodes – unfolding across Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow – seeing the heroes rebooting reality and saving the multiverse. But it came with a cost. Oliver Queen, who already died rescuing the people of Earth-38 in the first episode of the crossover, perished for a second and final time in “Part 4” while battling the Anti-Monitor.
Having been imbued with the cosmic powers of the Spectre by Jim Corrigan while in Purgatory, Oliver was able to take on the evil villain for a while and release a massive amount of energy that kickstarted the birth of a new multiverse. It was then up to the seven Paragons to focus on the concepts they represent – Hope, Faith, Love, Destiny, Humanity, Strength and Truth. After it was done, Barry and Kara found the dying Oliver and stayed with him until he passed away.

It would seem not, as they had to visit Hell, find Adam and Michael, and continue their drastic last-ditch efforts to spurn a vengeful Chuck in his world ending plans. The Winchesters’ lives are full of crazy scenarios and death defying odds, and there’s no slowing down on that now.
The mid-season finale brought back some notable characters, the biggest being Adam, Michael, and Rowena. The episode encapsulates the mission statement of this season to bring back fan favorites and tie up important loose ends.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three,” “The Flash” episode of the 2019 “Arrowverse” crossover.

The final Arrowverse episodes prior to “Crisis on Infinite Earths” aired last night in the form of Arrow and The Flash‘s midseason finales. Of the two, the former was probably a more important lead-in to the incoming Crisis. So let’s look at the ways that it finalized the pieces on the board before the multiversal event premieres this weekend.
Arrow 8×07, titled “Purgatory,” took the Green Arrow and his extended team back to Lian Yu, the island where his journey first began. Not Oliver Queen’s, but actually Lyla Michaels. Having got the gun, she then vanished through a portal.

Another episode of Arrow season 8, another welcome return of a familiar face. This time, Paul Blackthorne is returning as Quentin Lance. A regular on the series for the first six years of its run, the Star City cop ultimately sacrificed his own life for the Earth-2 doppelganger of his dead daughter when he took a bullet meant for Laurel. Now, however, he’s back as if he never died in the first place. And only Oliver Queen knows something is up.

Freeform is developing a “Dante’s Inferno” drama series, a reimagining of the 14th century epic poem set in present-day Los Angeles, a spokesperson for the network told TheWrap.
The series is described as following Grace Dante, “who thought her life sucked. Between parenting her drug addict mother and her troubled brother, our 20-something hero has had to give up all her dreams. Then one day everything changes and her dreams start magically coming true, school, career, love… but the godfather of all this good fortune is the Devil himself. And to outwit him, she’ll have to journey through Dante’s Inferno.”
Dante Alighieri’s narrative poem “The Divine Comedy,” widely considered one of the greatest works of Western literature, is told in three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, or Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. The poem tells the soul’s journey towards God in the afterlife, told from a medieval world view.

Two weeks before the release of his new album Country Squire, Tyler Childers has released the video to “All Your’n.” The song, a country-soul ballad, finds the Kentucky singer easing into a mid-tempo groove and singing finding contentment in long-term partnership.
