One of the biggest and most sensational developments in modern hip-hop came in the form of the recent Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud. The two rap giants have moved ahead in a tussle, with several diss tracks being fired from both sides. Additionally, it has also involved other rappers such as the likes of Ye, Metro Boomin, and The Weeknd, calling them to choose their team. Now, in an interesting development, the latest pair to get involved in this mix is the father-son duo of Tom Hanks and Chet Hanks.

The duo’s conversation made its way to social media and has several fans rolling in hysteria and amazement. A detailed explanation from the son to the acclaimed actor, who still appeared clueless, had the Internet in splits. Regardless, the summary still highlighted the intensity of the feud and its knocking on the Hanks’ doors.

Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis developed an interest in film and television at an early age and first worked in his native Chicago as an editor for TV commercials and news programs. This work led him to apply as a transfer student to the University of Southern California film school where his application material included a music video, set to a song by The Beatles. (Not surprisingly his first film would be “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” about a bunch of high school students obsessed with Beatlemania.)
He was initially rejected by USC but he begged an official to reconsider and promised to bring his low grade point average up by attending summer school. This brashness would also play a big part in his initial success as a director when he barged into Steven Spielberg’s office with a copy of his student film and asked Spielberg to employ him. The...

Although Taylor Sheridan now commands the television industry as a one-man army, who reinvented himself as a screenwriter and director, he initially began his career as an actor. Appearing in television series like Sons of Anarchy, Sheridan gradually transitioned to screenwriting and penned critically acclaimed hits like Sicario, Wind River, and more.

Now, Taylor Sheridan is famously known as the mastermind behind the Yellowstone franchise. Redefining the neo-Western genre through his successful series, Sheridan later launched two spin-off prequels 1883 and 1923. Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. When it comes to complex and challenging roles that require submitting oneself fully to the process, few actors can claim to have achieved what Tom Hanks has. The two-time Oscar winner is synonymous with some of the most iconic characters in films like Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Cast Away, and many more that have showcased his prowess as a performer.

Judging by the brief clips of Jake Gyllenhaal filming the 1989 Patrick Swayze’s Road House remake also titled Road House circulating on the internet, fans were convinced from the get-go, that the actor took this job pretty seriously. Not only did his dedication bring forth a compelling performance, but it also resulted in some serious injuries, which led to a staph infection. However, Gyllenhaal’s situation wasn’t unique, as it turns out Tom Hanks suffered the same fate years ago! Here’s what actually happened.

Plot: An astronaut realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth.
Desperate to fix things with his wife, he is helped by a mysterious ancient creature he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.
Review: It should no longer be surprising when Adam Sandler stars in dramatic roles. When Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love was released in 2002, Sandler was best known for films like Big Daddy and Little Nicky. Even though Sandler still releases broad comedies like Hubie Halloween and Murder Mystery, the actor has proven his talents in movies like Uncut Gems and Hustle. Adam Sandler’s latest dramatic project is Spaceman, a science-fiction tale set in the void of the solar system. In his book “The Films in My Life,” director and enthusiast François Truffaut wrote, “I demand that a film express either the joy of making cinema or the agony of making cinema.” Juan Pablo Reinoso’s new documentary “Mad Props” satisfies Truffaut’s criteria beautifully, expressing not only the joy of making cinema but also the joy of watching cinema, exploring both through the eyes of Tom Biolchini, an Oklahoma banker who obsessively collects movie props. Reinoso follows Biolchini as he travels the world meeting other collectors who lovingly display their acquisitions, everything from Indiana Jones’ whip to various title characters from Joe Dante‘s “Gremlins” to an entire house from “The Outsiders” purchased by House of Pain’s Danny Boy O’Connor and filled with artifacts from that Francis Coppola classic. As the film progresses, Reinoso broadens his scope to include interviews with actors and various prop and creature makers...

‘Spaceman’ Review: As a Czech Astronaut Suffocating From Loneliness, Adam Sandler Gets Lost in Space
Adam Sandler, we can all agree, is a serious actor — at times a great one. His comic DNA will often thread its way through his performances, but not always. In “Uncut Gems,” he had a frantic aggro desperation worthy of a Scorsese crime film. In “Hustle,” the crowd-pleasing Netflix sports drama he made after that, he played a pro-basketball scout with a menschy mouthiness that carried the audience right along. So when you sit down to watch “Spaceman” (also made for Netflix), in which Sandler plays a morosely bearded and tired-looking Czechoslovakian astronaut who is six months into a solo mission to the far side of the solar system, you give him the benefit of the doubt. We’ve seen space operas about stranded voyagers before (like Matt Damon’s red-planet Robinson Crusoe in “The Martian”). If any actor has the resources to hold down the center of a movie like this one,...

The 2000 survival drama Cast Away, starring Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt, was one of the best movies of not just the actor’s career but also Robert Zemeckis, who produced and directed the movie. The movie won Hanks an Academy Award nomination, and Zemeckis was praised for his artistry and vision.
The film, though not shot in a linear chronology, managed to capture the essence of the story perfectly, and most of it was thanks to Hanks’ dedication to his performance.

The film was shot within three months of work but was left in hiatus for more than a year in between. Which was both a good and a bad thing.

Friday Afternoon: Right now, it’s looking like Warner Bros/DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive at $40M over 4-days, which is where tracking had it.
That said, Warners can boast, and CEO David Zaslav can be happy, in having the top two films at the box office along with Wonka‘s second weekend in the No. 2 spot with a projected $31M over the Dec. 22-25 span. Friday/previews for Aquaman 2 is $14M with a 3-day of $30M at 3,706 theaters. Wonka‘s second Friday is $7M (-51%), which translates to a 3-day of $22M at 4,213 theaters. We’re hearing that Color Purple‘s Christmas Day gross could be around $10M-$12M, which would put it in the No. 4 spot behind Illumination and Universal’s Migration which is looking at $18M at 3,761 theaters; a better than expected result than the $10M-$12M we were hearing about.

One need only glance at the leading men and women of any given era to see Hollywood's perennial beauty standards. Most actors will know the pressure of keeping fit and aesthetic, especially after the mainstreaming of gym and fitness culture in the late 20th century. Take Superman, for example. Christopher Reeve was a tall and athletic man, but compared to Henry Cavill's cast iron physique, his rangy costume looks slightly pedestrian. It's not all about "looking good," of course. Some actors have drastically changed their bodies to better portray their characters, such as Robert De Niro in "Raging Bull," Christian Bale in "The Machinist," Matthew McConaughey in "Dallas Buyers Club," and Tom Hanks in "Cast Away."
Still, "looking good" is a prerequisite for many actors, and they often must obey the wishes of producers, directors, and casting managers, who are known to ask for weight loss, dental work, and even plastic surgery.

Very few performers who became Golden Globe nominees in their teens can claim to have stayed in the organization’s good graces as adults, but, with 13 notices and three wins spread over nearly 30 years, Leonardo DiCaprio is more justified in doing so than anyone else. As it happens, the film star has picked up multiple Golden Globe bids during each decade of his adult life, and he is now working on squeezing in another just before he enters his 50s. If he winds up clinching his third Best Film Drama Actor trophy for “Killers of the Flower Moon” this winter, he will tie the illustrious record for most victories in that category.
DiCaprio’s previous Golden Globe wins came for his lead performances in the dramas “The Aviator” (2005) and “The Revenant” (2016) and the comedy “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2014). This potential new drama bid would be his ninth, following unsuccessful...

Jason Momoa returned as guest host for the latest episode of "Saturday Night Live" this weekend. From “Gravity ” and “Wild” to “The Way Back” and “Jaws,” the most compelling survival movies fearlessly examine characters’ will to live, imbuing their perilous struggles with the intensely personal motivations and desires that make every person unique. These stories allow audiences to consider what specific obstacles along one person’s quest for survival and happiness say about humanity writ large. An Australian man was found floating in the middle of the ocean last week – authorities now say that he had been lost at sea for nearly three months.
Tim Shaddock, 51, and his dog, Bella, set out to sail to French Polynesia from Mexico in April. A heavy storm and rough seas, however, damaged their boat and left them with no electricity, leaving the pair to fend for themselves in the vast Pacific Ocean.
Shaddock and Bella survived the long weeks by eating raw fish and drinking rainwater.
Although the storm caused Shaddock’s vessel to lose electricity, he told Australia’s 9News that he was still able to keep in touch with his family, doing a “check in with [his] sister every sunset and sunrise” as he was hoping to return to land.

Take a gander at the last 40 years of cinema, and you’ll find at least one universal truth: The people love Tom Hanks.
The 66-year-old actor is known around Hollywood and the world as an affable everyman, with as much capacity for heady drama as he has a knack for quippy comedy. Hanks’ most famous roles range from the light and whimsical to the darkly complex. He’s also responsible for delivering lines in some of cinema’s most quotable movies, including “A League of Their Own” (“There’s no crying in baseball!”) and “Apollo 13”.
Hanks cut his teeth as a stage actor, performing Shakespeare and other plays in his hometown of Lakewood, California for much of the late ’70s. At 24-years-old, Hanks made his first movie appearance as a flirty jogger in the slasher “He Knows You’re Alone” before starring opposite Daryl Hannah in Ron Howard’s romantic...

Locked inside with nothing but priceless works of art, he must use all his cunning and invention to survive.
Critics are raving about Dafoe’s performance, despite mixed reception for the film overall. Having already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in “Elvis,” Austin Butler is on a solid path to triumphing on his first Oscar nomination. His film, which covers the entirety of the titular rock star’s two-decade career, boasts a talented cast that includes past Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who collected back-to-back Best Actor trophies for “Philadelphia” (1994) and “Forrest Gump” (1995). He missed out on a supporting bid for “Elvis,” but if Butler clinches the lead award, Hanks will become the 15th man to have acted in a film that won the same Oscar he previously received.
Hanks has a total of five Best Actor nominations to his name, with the three unsuccessful ones having come for his work in “Big” (1989), “Saving Private Ryan” (1999), and “Cast Away” (2001). Until Butler was recognized for “Elvis,” Hanks had never appeared in a film for which someone...

A Man Called Otto is a movie directed by Marc Forster starring Tom Hanks.
A remake whose only appeal lies in seeing Tom Hanks handle the role of a grouch… to reconvert the character to his own kind, sensitive and simple style.
One of its charms: we get to see Tom Hanks’ son, Truman Hanks, play Otto as a young man.
Storyline
Otto is one of those neighbors no one wants to have: grumpy, picky, gossipy and bitter. A new family moves into a nearby house, which will cause Otto’s life, about to end, to change forever.
Movie Review
A Man Called Otto is one of those easy, simplistic, crowd-pleasing movies that give “good vibes” everywhere and that, in essence and without satisfying almost anyone, leave a feeling that the world can still be a nice place full of nice people with a charming neighborhood.

You didn’t think Willem Dafoe would star in a conventional escape room thriller, did you? Then again, “Inside” is barely an escape room thriller despite it being about an art thief trapped in the location of his latest heist. Greek filmmaker Vasilis Katsoupis’s elegant provocation may be closer to the kind of existential mood pieces that generations ago defined so much of European cinema, but it’s been given a modern gloss of design, tension, and star power more in keeping with the gripping tales of solitude that have found a mainstream audience.
Inevitably, because of its challenging nature, “Inside” and its methodical excavation of one man’s survival instincts in a place not assumed to require endurance –- a luxury penthouse in Manhattan — will likely only appeal to the arthouse crowd. Even among discerning moviegoers its more indulgent elements may occasionally grate.

There’s more than enough blurring of the lines between reality and dark fantasy, not to mention any conventional grasp of temporality, to position Inside as a new entry in the Greek Weird Wave. But subtract the brutalist-chic design aesthetics and the meticulously curated art collection, both of which have major bearing on the unfolding psychological thriller, and you have an inverted take on familiar one-person survival dramas like Cast Away or All is Lost. How much you get out of the narrative feature debut of commercials director Vasilis Katsoupis will depend on your appetite for another of Willem Dafoe’s heady plunges into a character’s soul in torment.

It sometimes feels like "Cast Away" doesn't get as much love as it deserves. It's certainly well-regarded by both critics and audiences, but it almost seems a bit forgotten. Yes, it still airs on cable pretty regularly, but it's not a film that comes up in day-to-day cinema conversation often. After all, when people talk about the best Tom Hanks movies and performances, they tend to go right to films like "Philadelphia," "Saving Private Ryan," and "Forrest Gump," when the best performance of his career may very well have been as Chuck Noland in "Cast Away." Considering the fact he spends most of the movie completely isolated, and his primary scene partner is a volleyball, the movie is a testament to his star power and acting talent.

Forrest Gump is Andrew Scott Bell’s origin story, in a manner of speaking. When his parents bought the two-disc soundtrack, packed with cuts from Bob Dylan and Creedence Clearwater Revival, he gravitated most to the final track, “Forrest Gump Suite,” by composer Alan Silvestri, who is also known for What Lies Beneath, Castaway, and Avengers: Infinity War, among countless other works.
“I remember hearing the track and lightning sparks going off in my brain,” he tells Bloody Disgusting. So, he listened to it over and over again until he learned how to play it on piano. “I’ll never forget how to play it,” he adds.
From upstate New York, Bell grew up in a very religious home. Being a “weird queer kid,” he found himself taking dance, ballet, and piano lessons. “When I was very young, I landed on art and drawing, and I was really into that.

"Cast Away" is a memorable film for many reasons -- there's something endearing and terribly sad about Tom Hanks' on-screen friendship with a volleyball named Wilson. It's also a terrific tale about perseverance, survival spirit, and the things that make life worth living. (The ending is pretty emotional.) The film is also pretty special for Hank's incredible portrayal of Chuck Nolan, a Fed-ex troubleshooter who finds himself stranded on an island after his plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean, leaving him the sole survivor.
Chuck eventually makes a home in a cave that shields him from the island's many storms, finds a quiet friend to fulfill his need for companionship, and makes a living from the packages from the plane that arrive ashore — all in the hope of surviving. He spends four years on an island, fighting off helplessness every new day, no matter the odds thrown at him.

Tom Hanks is set to be digitally de-aged using AI technology for a new film from Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis.

Throughout the 1990s, Tom Hanks was a constant at the Academy Awards, winning two Best Actor awards back-to-back for “Philadelphia” (1993) and “Forrest Gump” (1994), followed a few years later by his nomination for “Saving Private Ryan.” When he became the frontrunner to win again in 2001 for “Cast Away,” Hanks appeared to be on track to become the male Meryl Streep at the Oscars, getting nominated every few years, but then nearly two decades passed until he received his sixth Oscar nom for “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
And now we’re entering a unique awards season for Hanks in that he’s a major part of two awards-friendly movies and yet might be overlooked for both performances. The first is “Elvis,” for which the lead Austin Butler is a contender to win the Best Actor Oscar, and the second is “A Man Called Otto,” which went into wide release this month,...

Did the guys manage to remember all about their first loves?
On Family Guy Season 21 Episode 11, there were hints of Castaway, Dirty Dancing, and plenty of Meg Ryan rom-coms as the truth came out.
However, Peter's story sounded more fiction than fact, leading the men to question everything he told them.
Elsewhere, Lois was shocked to hear Peter's past and pondered what it meant for her future.

Hollywood star Tom Hanks chooses not to watch his hit movies. While having doubts about his acting ability, the 66-year-old also has to “wrestle with authenticity” when looking back at his films.
“I wrestle with authenticity. I wrestle with the difference between lying for a living as an actor and lying to myself as a human being,” Hanks said when speaking on ‘The Great Creators with Guy Raz’ podcast, reports aceshowbiz.com.
The two-time Oscar winner prefers not to watch his films again as it always leaves him with a sense of regret about his performance.
Hanks explained: “(I see) the falsehood in them. I see the loss. I see that one time, ‘Oh man, I missed that opportunity.'”
“And it’s not because, at the moment, I chose not to – it’s because, after it was done, I realised I didn’t go far enough. I didn’t...
